Wow, did Toledo need a good brunch spot - and it got it in First Watch. The atmosphere is intentionally loud and busy, with lots of excitement and energy surging through as soon as you walk in the doors. If you're looking for a place to eat your meal in peace and quiet, this might not be the right spot for you. However, after moving to Toledo from Chicago, I can say I loved the buzz of activity and noisy bustle; it's something I've missed living here. We were quoted a 30 min wait time at 10am on a Saturday (as anticipated), but our guests couldn't wait that long as they had to go to MI for a funeral that afternoon. Luckily, they knew the long table behind the hostess was a communal table with first come, first serve open seating, which is something the hostess failed to mention to me when I put my name in. Luckily, a family was getting up as I was putting in my name and were able to sit at the communal table within 5 minutes. Yes, the service is a bit slow. I'm not sure if this is a function of it being newly opened, or the norm for this chain, but it did take some time to put our orders in and receive our food. We were on a time schedule, but not so constricted for time as to ruin the experience. We also did not signal to our server that we were in a rush (because we really were not). Though I wouldn't recommend this for a "quick bite" if you are pressed for time, it was nice to enjoy the coffee, atmosphere, and conversation as we waited for our food. The food was delish!! Even the side potatoes were great, like they had soaked in a tasty, salty brine before being perfectly sautéed to a crisp outside while remaining fluffy inside. I got the breakfast sandwich on toast instead of the brioche bun and OMG was it tasty! My fellow diners had the avocado toast, a farmhouse skillet, and the barbacoa benedict (a seasonal special). Everyone said their breakfast was amazing. Coffee and water was constantly stocked, and very much appreciated. Based on the wait times, it seems like this place is doing really well! I hope the crowd looking for peace and quiet writing all the negative reviews doesn't kill the reputation of this place; it's lively, and delicious, and everything a Chicago transplant could ever want in Toledo! read more

My favorite brunch place hands down. They have a lot of organic options here. It will be a wait though, so I suggest signing up for the waitlist through yelp in advance. The food is always good, and the service as well! They are generally very packed and crowded when we go between 10:30-12:00. I suggest trying millionaires bacon. Sooo good! read more

We typically love First Watch and have frequented the Columbus location multiple times, however the Toledo location service is horrendous! This is our third time giving it a chance and we will not be back. Our meal took forever, the waitress was not attentive, the eggs with the avocado toast were well done and when we asked for them to be re-made, we got attitude and again it took forever. I've been here twice since moving home a couple months ago and have yet to be impressed. The first time we had solid service, and the Benedict was very good (though not the best I'd ever had; it could have used salt, and the ham was still rolled up and cold inside.) Recently, I went again solo for a late breakfast. The service was pretty lame. Granted, it was at the end of their day, so you tend to cut people slack but still. When the server brought me coffee, I needed to ask for silverware, which is okay, but it took like five minutes. I had ordered immediately as I was hungry, and my food took 35 minutes! to arrive. They were not that busy. At no time did the server say it would only be a few more minutes or anything, and when I did receive it, I said, I was starting to wonder! She said, oh I guess that was a few minutes. She did not do any check back, and then she brought my check without asking me if I was finished or wanted anything. When I asked for a container for my bacon, she was not very nice. I ended up leaving 10%, a full 15% under what I usually do. The hash was good, but the bacon was lame, and basically cold, certainly not worth $5. At no time did either the server or the host ask me how things were. The server never gave her name or made any sense of welcome, and it just felt like she had made her money for the day and didn't care beyond that. Serving breakfast IS tough, but if you don't want to do it, don't. Also, while I see why they would use creamer plastic cups, it's such a waste, total contradiction to their "fresh" theme. Overall, I feel like if they're going to charge West Coast prices, they need to up their game rather than giving an attitude of people being lucky to be there; otherwise, I'm perfectly happy going to one of the local diners that don't seem to mind serving decent food with true smiles for Toledo prices. read more

Super super long wait. The food is great and flavorful but it's eggs and pancakes. It should never take this long. We stood around for 25 minutes after the suggested arrival time provided by the app. Again, really good breakfast. Probably the best in town , but the wait ruins the experience. Overall very good and we will return. We signed in on the waiting list via Yelp which was a nice feature but still waited probably 20 minutes to get sat. They were busy which is to be expected with a newer restaurant during their prime breakfast time. I was a little irritated with the seating as we learned that there was a "community table" that is first come first serve which would of been nice to know about and we would of utilized. The table turn over seemed slow as we saw several clean tables or dirty ones that sat unattended to. Went to first watch today. Normally one of my favorite places to get breakfast. Our sever was wonderful and our breakfast was pretty good. The guy seating us was also the manager. He was very rude and very unpleasant. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left he was very rude. Not a smile nothing. When we asked our server who the manager was she told us and we didn't even want to speak to him because of how rude he was from the beginning. It set a bad tone from the very beginning. read more

Just went a few mornings ago, was impressed & will be back. As we walked up, the hostess held the door and wished us a good morning. We were promptly seated and asked what we'd like to drink. Hubby got coffee, I got water. Appreciated that (like another breakfast/brunch type place we've been) they left a carafe of water so I could refill as needed. Waitress was super friendly and considerate as we took awhile to order--it was our first time there & a lot of good things on menu...We finally decided to get the smoked salmon benedict (him) & the chickichanga (me). Both were delicious!! Well, I didn't try the benedict; but he liked it. The chickichanga came with potatoes, and I was only able to eat about half of it. The combo of chicken, chorizo, and green chile sauce was great--just a little spicy, and a lighter feeling breakfast than say pancakes. read more

Didn't even get to try the menu. We knew there was a wait before we got inside. We were told 25-30 minutes. We always take a look at the other people waiting to be able to gauge how much longer we have. About 30 minutes in, we noticed a few people come in and get seated right away. They had called in or went online, which I was ok with. We asked about how much longer it would be, the guy said, you have been here 34 minutes, let's see if we can seat you before the 45 minute mark??? Then we saw one, two, three, and a fourth group get seated that came in after us and gave them their names. These people got seated before us, and all of them were walk ins. I asked the guy how four people would get seated that walked in and gave their names just like we did. He mentioned that if someone gets online, they would be bumped in. I told him that made no sense as I watched these people come in and do the same thing we did. They definitely have issues with seating people in a timely and respectful manner as we were there for just under 45 minutes, and just gave up. The food might be good, or even great, but we will never know for ourselves as we will NEVER return to this establishment. I want to hear for a late breakfast by myself one day. Even though there were a ton of cars outside it was not horribly busy inside the restaurant. I only had to wait for a short time before I was sent. The seating was okay but the booths were hard to get in and out of. I ended up ordering the lemon ricotta pancakes and coffee. One thing that drives me crazy is when prices are not listed in the menu. Most of their drinks have no prices attached to them. Make sure you ask for the price so you're not surprised at the End by the bill. The coffee was okay definitely not worth how much they were charging for it though. The pancakes came out fairly fast and were not too bad. The only thing that really was lemon was the lemon curd that they placed on top of the pancakes. Apparently there was ricotta baked into the actual pancakes themselves. It also was garnished with very sour strawberries. Had the strawberries then fresh and sweet they would have paired perfectly with the lemon. I might go here again. Due to the cost I would probably just go to a cheaper place to eat though. read more

Need a better system for take out orders. I ordered my food at 12:19 pm. I told them I was going to sit in the car and so he took my number just in case. After waiting about 10 minutes I return to the restaurant Drew asked me if I needed help and I said I'm just waiting for my take out order. I ran into some friends and was talking with them. They had been waiting an extended amount of time to be seated so they asked when it would be. Apparently they had paged her phone but she showed them she never received anything so they told her shortly they would have a table. So now I'm looked at my watch and it was 12:56. I asked Drew how long it would be for my order and he said shortly. Well when he walked over to me and said Jones party and started to seat my friends, I realized he thought I was with them even though he took my original order. So I go to the cashier and said do you know when my order will be ready. I've been waiting over 30 minutes. He said let me check. A girl from the kitchen stated that's not even up yet. Mind you I got an order of million dollar bacon and avocado toast. At 1:00 I was given my to go order no apologies discount or anything. However, staff was efficient and friendly. Restaurant is nice and clean. Food took a while. Something happened in the kitchen to a veggie burger and they had to redo it. Had problems making a sunnyside up egg. Chef came out and explained the delay and apologized. Once we got the food it was great: traditional breakfast platter with eggs, chicken sausage, toast, and hashbrowns. Others had veggie burger, chocolate chip pancakes, eggs benedict with salmon, and roast beef havarti sandwich. This was my first time. Family had been there several times. Second visit, mixed results. To start, IT'S TOO DAMN LOUD! I I appreciate the urban / rustic vibe they have going on in here, but it is really way too loud. There are lots of noise reducing solutions on the market with that industrial look. They need to invest in some, now! The Millionaires Bacon, and the fresh hot coffee was absolutely awesome. Well worth the price. Absolutely love all of the farm fresh and unique options on the menu. Having said that I'm a bit disappointed with the execution of the Plain Jane Belgian waffle. Came out a bit undercooked, despite requests to make sure it wasn't. Moreover, it was barely warm. And my definition of barely, is the moment it arrived I spread the whipped butter around on the top and it had a hard time melting. Don't care how busy you are, don't care how new the staff and the place is, this is simple stuff folks. Let's try to get it right. I will happily come back and try other dishes, in hopes of increasing my rating. But for now, especially considering the prices, they are solid three-star experience. read more

I also sampled a couple of the juices they offer (a red/orange one and a green one) both were good in their own way, sweet and potent, maybe not worth the price but definitely worth trying once. Really good food! Real tomatoes and big mushroom chunks in the breakfast skillet were yummy! Waitress was sub par, we had to beg for water, coffee, and drink refills for the table, but a lot of that is probably the fact that they are a new place. Definitely worth a try, they are something different for Toledo instead of the standard midwest grease bomb breakfast. Not sure what all the other complaints are about the noise, there must be a lot of cranky get-off-my-lawn types around that must eat their toast and drink tea in silence! Many locals in Toledo that have never been to this restaurant or never heard of it would not understand what First Watch is supposed to be. To start, the atmosphere is set to be modern and chic. Yes, it is noisy but it's the way it is intended to be. If you've been to First watch else where it isn't at all a quiet restaurant. Hence, that's the idea they had while building their many of chains. First watch offers numerous of healthy options.. EXTREMELY healthier than other breakfast/brunch restaurants around. Not only healthy but wonderful flavorful food! And Better quality of food which Toledo needs for a change!! Being from a city where first watch is one of the best breakfast/brunch restaurants around it is still the same as home and I am so happy Toledo has finally built one! read more
