I went to First Watch very early in the morning. The service was not the best experience. I went to go pay for my bill. I stood in line behind two Caucasian males, waiting to cash out. After a while of waiting, another Caucasian male came up to one of the males instead of standing behind me in line. The young lady behind the counter proceeded to service the man that came up well after I got there instead of taking me, even though I was next in line. I had said to her, "Excuse me, but I was next. I have been in line for a while." Her and the gentlemen both looked at me. She ignored me and went back to cashing him out. The other lady from behind the counter came from behind the counter and said that there were only credit cards at the young lady's register and cash only at her register. The other lady proceeded to cash me out at her register. I told her that was no excuse and also asked for a survey. She asked me what I wanted it for, and I looked at her confused at why she would ask me that. I told her that I am going to let the company know about my experience today. I retrieved the survey and left feeling so humiliated and disgusted.

I filled out the survey, which timed you, so I was unable to completely say in detail what had occurred.

I received from an email from a person by the name of David Gaines, vice president of operations Central Division for First Watch Restaurants, apologizing for my experience and asking for a phone number to further discuss what had happened. He called me Friday, November 9th.

I spoke with the vice president of First Watch. I told him about my experience at the First Watch on Secor Road, and how I was discriminated against. I suggested diversity training and other additional training for his employees. No one should have been made to feel how I was or be treated like that. I told him I am not comfortable with patronizing their establishment. I did tell him about previous things, but this was the worst. He wants the chance to address it and train them. He said he would like for me to join the VP for a meal/meeting at the restaurant when he gets to the bottom of this. I told him that the employees would only treat me nicely because he would be present. He asked if there was anything else he could do for me. I could not come up with anything, but I kept reiterating that I was not comfortable patronizing his establishment.

The VP at the restaurant decided that I was not discriminated against. He informed me that his people had training, but not diversity training--that there was no need. I disagreed with him. He offered me a $100 gift certificate to their restaurant to see the changes they have made. I told him I declined to come to an establishment that discriminates. He told me they did not discriminate. I told him to tell me what it was cashier did. He said he already told me. He went on to tell me that it was their policy to take other customers because their registers at times cannot process credit cards at the same time. That was his excuse for her taking the white customers ahead of me. I disagreed with him and said that it was time for other people to know about my experience. I then told him to have a good day, and ended the conversation. read more
