This would usually only garner a 3 star review out of me but I'm giving it 4 because if you're gonna try this place, you'd better come hungry and i am not kidding. This place isn't expensive at all which is why it's kind of mind-blowing the portions you get. One dish I recommend for breakfast is the country scramblers. Its eggs, corned beef hash, potatoes cheese and either bacon or ham topped with gravy and a side of toast. This dish can fill up 2-3 people. It's your typical local diner that looks like it's still in the mid-late 1900s with the booths lining the walls. The servers are friendly and quick. Let's start with the food, it was excellent. servings are huge. What I didn't like is they charge you $3 to share a meal or $3 for an extra plate. I don't think you should pay extra because you want to share a meal. Then since we couldn't eat all of the food they charge you 25 cents for a carry out container. I think this is a little extreme. We won't be back because of this. As a customer you shouldn't have to pay extra to share or for a carry out container. And then on top of these charges we were also charged for using a credit card. The food was okay but this place was the Spirt Airlines of restaurants. They nickel and dime you on everything. There is a: $3.00 sharing fee if you want an extra plate. ¢.25 Togo box fee $2.95 convenience fee 3.99% credit card fee. And that is just what I noticed. What in the actual heck is a convenience fee at a small diner. I get that a business needs to make a profit but stop being so cheep, it is tacky. Stopped in for Breakfast this morning while visiting family in Toledo. Ohio is a little less strict on Covid Restrictions than Northern Virginia from what we have seen overall but Nick's seems to do a good job with seating space, signage & Staff wearing masks & cleanliness. Our Waitress was super friendly, attentative,and answered all questions about the menu. Our food came quick, coffee and water glasses stayed full. Our Waitress was pretty busy but did not seem to slow her down or interfere with service. Our food was delicious and the quantity was way more than expected at the price. I had the Country Omelet and it could probably have fed 3, and still tasted great. We all had leftovers to take home. Right off the Turn-Pike and worth a stop if driving through. read more

Another selection based on Yelp! comments and reviews. Very unassuming location as well as first impression when you walk in. Almost feels as if the restaurant is trapped in the 60s or 70s. Our server was very pleasant and helpful with making selections. We were both blown away by the size of the portions. I think we both got 2 or 3 meals out of what we were served. Please do not take this comment out of context, as this "hole in the wall" restaurant serves tasty food at more than a reasonable price. Definitely a must try if you find yourself in that area. Ok I like "fancy" breakfast places, but this place is a greasy spoon and is outstanding!! The service is excellent and the food was delicious! I had something with home fries, eggs, bacon, sausage, sausage gravy and a side biscuit that was enough for three people to eat. One buddy got a veggie omelette with a side of home fries and the other got a Mexican omelet with a order of home fries. The omelette is HUGE!! None of us finished our orders because it was a lot. They have a $21.00 omelette on the menu and I asked what it was and the waitress said 9 eggs and the kitchen sink. Lmao!! The place was packed and I could tell why. The server took over 5 minutes to come to our table when we got there and then she went to other tables who came after us. The portions are huge and flavorless. We were cautious to order add on due to other reviews about over charges, but thankfully we did not experience that. We did have to ask for the home fries we ordered and the waitress said you order some. I told her to forget it, but she said no if you order them I'll go get some. Tonight, we had dinner tonight (myself, my roommate and our friend.) I shared a Reuben with fries special with our friend "K". The special came out with the huge helping of homemade fries and the sandwich was burnt. I broke a piece of my half of the sandwich and the dark brown of the sandwich was burnt tasting and the sandwich WAS BURNT. We asked our waitress to ask the cook to re-make it, less singed this time. Nick, the owner was cooking tonight; he immediately started to argue loudly with the waitress saying that "they don't know what they are talking about the bread is marbled, not burnt. I'm not remaking it.". Everyone in the restaurant heard him say this, besides us. She came back to the table with our sandwich. We showed her that, *by scraping the sandwich with the butter knife that the it WAS INDEED BURNT* and that we just wanted one that was edible. We, once again listened as NICK, THE OWNER BITCHED AND COMPLAINED THAT WE DIDNT HAVE TO STAY.... AND ON AND ON. He's the owner for christ-sake, and we as his customers, just couldn't eat it blackened as it was. ***My apologies for not rememb myering to take a photo of it black. But I did remember to take a photo of the greasy, fatty corned beef Reuben that had been remade for us by him.* None of us will ever go back to Nick's. I've NEVER been witness to a owner treating any of his customers that way. Its alright. Not what it used to be so I'm comparing then to now. When I was in college my boyfriend and I would come for breakfast and split a meal. Portions are that obscenely large. Only way we could eat out at all. Now they charge $2.00 if you want an extra plate. $1.50 to sprinkle shredded cheese on the home fries. Food here used to be damn good. Now they scramble my eggs to death, bacon is fatty and those humungous home fries don't seem to have any flavor. Waitres asked if i wanted a box. Naw. Now that I can afford my own meal I dont need or want crazy portions just quality food. The lunch stuff is OK. Never had anything memorable. Service was great. But My god, my stomach is absolutely eviscerated after eating this plate of oil. I ordered the eggs and spinach and how sad this plate was. I can only imagine that the cook squeezed half the oil into the pan, dumped a bucket of spinach in, and let it soup up before slapping in the scrambled eggs. As much oil and butter was used, the cook didn't balance it out with any salt whatsoever. They allowed it to pool up into the middle of the plate in a puddle so the under-toasted toast could soak it up until soggy. Flavorless as other reviewers mentioned. The plate was topped off with even more fat through the generous helping of feta cheese. The only thing left on the plate to cut the fat were the tomatoes which had too big a job for them to handle since the spinach was left null by drowning in the oil. It was truly a wonder when I saw the toast was already spread with a dollop of butter. How much more fat does this dish have?! Left feeling sick to my stomach. I work in restaurants and I understand how difficult COVID has made it but their tables aren't even probably blocked off for social distancing. I've never had a bad server attitude wise there but she left silverware from the previous table for us. She wiped the table down with quat sanitizer which doesn't kill COVID effectively, so they don't even have the right chemicals in house to clean. They're still using table caddies which aren't sanitized in between tables. When I asked for hot sauce, she grabbed it from a dirty table and didn't wipe it down. Also 2/3 servers had masks on their chins the whole time we were there. If the front isn't following basic health code, you know the kitchen isn't either. I wouldn't even do takeout. Go to Schmucker's down the street. Two stars just because it is that homey, Midwest style cooking that I love but definite focus is on quantity over quality. read more

The foods portions are out of control. Yes- I like a good portion of food...but this is exactly why the world is obese. We keep making portions bigger and bigger and bigger and it's so very hard to stop eating because its so good. Despite the enormous amount of the food....it was so delicious! Everything tasted great. I didnt even eat 1/4 of what was served and managed to have two additional meals the next few days and threw away half a to go container. 2 Burgers ended up costing $40. They're not even interesting, just bacon and cheese with a few fries. Obviously $40 is a lot for 2 burgers, so I just wanted to call back and cancel. Guess the food was already done and they wouldn't let me. I tried talking to the manager and she wouldn't do anything either. So it was either I go pick up my $40 burgers, or I don't and be left with a $40 phone call. So I picked it up, and the bag weighed feathers!! $40 for feathers worth of food! But what took the cake was the handful of bacon fat carelessly placed on top. That was literally the only flavor; burnt bacon grease. Tried the fries too, and they could hardly be considered fries. They're literally just a cut up, unseasoned potato. I couldn't even guess how they cooked them, but they definitely weren't fried. A friend and I have tried to eat here three times before a show at the Stranahan theater down the street in recent months. According to their website, they're open until 8:00 on Sundays. The first time we got there about 5:30 and the door was locked but there were a few people inside. The next time we called that afternoon and we're told they were open until 7:00. Again, doors locked at a little after 5:00 and a couple of people inside. Tried for the third time tonight (still supposedly open until 8:00), got there about 5:15 and doors locked again. Three strikes and you're out for us. Won't be trying to eat here again. Change your hours on your website to the correct hours. If a potential customer calls and you tell them you're open until 7:00, stay open until 7:00. Don't close two hours early. Bad business practices. read more
