4.5 I hadn't been to Mama's Kitchen in over a year at least and this time picked up a carryout order for six people. Walking in for the order, it was the same wonderful down-to-earth diner ambiance that I love! I have come to believe that carryout can be more difficult for both staff and customers because it needs to be done right at the beginning because there's no opportunity to correct things later- without a return visit. There were a few things that weren't quite right and I'm not sure if it had to do with me reading texts from my family, if I got it wrong, or if it was on the part of the restaurant. No matter, it had to do with side dishes and not main entrees. Still, the little things could have been easily remedied if we had dined at the restaurant- which wasn't an option for many reasons, including the restaurant's limited hours, as they were only open until 3pm on a Sunday. When I picked up the orders, a staff member helped me carry the bags out to my car, which I greatly appreciated. Everyone at this restaurant was super nice! Since we were celebrating my mom's birthday, her entree was the most important and she said the liver and onions were delicious. My nephew was very happy with his chicken chunks. My niece didn't complain about her beef nachos. My brother and sister in law said their orders were just okay - a philly sandwich with onion rings and a turkey sandwich with gravy and onion rings. They said the sandwiches lacked flavor. Since they didn't comment about the onion rings, I'm judging from the photos that they looked amazing. My Turkey Reuben was fabulous, along with the fries. Plus, the side of Thousand Island dressing was perfectly delicious. It's hard to make everyone happy, so my rating is partly based upon my consistently excellent experience at Mama's Kitchen, including omelettes and other breakfast/brunch food. I would overall recommend Mama's Kitchen for its delicious homemade dishes and warm service. Therefore, I'm rounding up to five stars for this unassuming diner that generally over-delivers at a great value for your money! read more

Mama's is nothing fancy but good ole fashioned home cooking. The staff was attentive and efficient. Service was quick! If you're just looking for home made cooking with very nice portions at a reasonable price Mama'a is for you. The restaurant is clean and well kept. My suggestion give them a try, in my opinion you won't be disappointed. read more

Consistently good food. Sometimes there is a small wait to get a table, the counter if fine also. M breakfast is usually my go to but in my last visit I got the club sandwich which was toasty and delicious goodness. Friendly service. Clam chowder was also delicious. This is still a great place to enjoy a meal. You may have to wait a few minutes for a seat on weekend breakfast/brunch but the service is on point. They really hustle! We very much enjoy the food there. Today I tried the Garbage Omelette with a side of sausage patties. All good! Its's crowded, it can be a bit loud, but it is clean and the folks are very nice. This is the first time visiting this spot. My sister and I are always looking for good breakfast spots. I goggle for breakfast spots around me and this one came up had real good reviews. It was definitely worth all the hype the food was amazing the service was good and it was nice and quiet in there our waitress was amazing.. I hate I didn't get her name so I could give her props. I've heard only good things about this place. We finally went and tried it but sadly it didn't live up to the hype. Nothing was bad or gross but it just wasn't that good. It seemed like the ingredients were on the lower side and everything is served on plastic dishes. I had the meatloaf and it was okay, I've had much better elsewhere. Reasonable prices but the portions are on the lighter side. Service was okay, we didn't go without. I would just choose a fresher place. read more

I ordered my old standby of comfort food although there were several different ones I could have chose from this is what I decided to have today and I was not disappointed except for it wasn't an open faced hot roast beef sandwich meal usually open face means you don't have another slice of bread on top and the bread was thick so it was a lot of carbs and I stupidly ordered mac and cheese as a side which is more carbs! Lol ..The mac and cheese was all right it wasn't real creamy like I'm used to it was just OK to me. The Mama beans they come free with your meal if you want it I didn't care for those because I don't like kidney beans it was a mix of like a couple different beans with a little piece of sausage and some onions in it.... it tastes good but they're not baked beans not in the sense that I know of baked beans it was very soupy like texture the flavor again was good as was the mac and cheese flavor. The overall meal I give it a thumbs up I did not have to wait for a table this place is usually jam-packed especially on the weekends and now I can see why! read more

Just disappointed. I was scheduled for my first chemo treatment this morning, but due to waiting on some tests, they had to delay it. My daughter was in town from Kentucky and she drove me. We decided we wanted to get some breakfast and I love to patronize local businesses whenever possible. While I rarely go out to breakfast, I suggested Mama's Kitchen, since I have often heard it was really good. Now, I do understand that sometimes a place might have a "not so great" day, but we thought it would be good when we were seated immediately and a waitress took our drink order. She brought us two waters and said she would be right back with the coffee and to take our order. While the place was somewhat busy, she did pass our table a number of times, conversed with other tables and after 25 minutes, I just decided to try somewhere else. When we were leaving, another waitress apologized and said she didn't realize our waitress didn't take our order, but at that point....well, I wasn't feeling like the person that overlooked us for so long would be the person I want taking my order. We left...drove a little over a mile and went to Star Diner. We were seated, orders taken, drinks on the table, and our breakfasts were in front of us in 15 minutes. I will try to give Mama's another shot, since I know of a lot y'all love it. But...it's not that big of a place to just lose two diners sitting at a table in the middle of the dining room. read more

We've been coming here for years. The last two times was bad. Today ordered a side of breakfast gravy, it came out with lots of lumps, I got excited and thought it was sausage, it was clumps of flour. Even told the waitress it was disgusting. We were still charged 3.99 for the gravy. That was our last time coming here. I understand prices of everything is going up, but, when something is obviously not made correctly and the customer says it's disgusting, you probably should have taken it off the bill. You all can have it. From the time they put the soda and watwr down there were flies and nats flying everywhere. Nasty when 1 crash landed into my hashbrowns. The floor was nasty. I came to have breakfast with my husband and as we were checking out, our cashier lost my debit card. No one said a word to us as we were waiting to get the card back for about 15-20 minutes. So we got up to check on what was going on and that's when we were informed that the card was lost. They were looking for an additional 20+ minutes before it was found. Yes, I do know and understand that mistakes happens but communication is key first and foremost. Let me know so that I can lock or do what's necessary to protect my card, it only takes a few minutes to cash out with someone's card. As we were waiting for the card I set my food down and it was thrown away after only taking a few bites. We asked for a refund or even to replace the meal that was paid for and the manager said no, because everyone makes mistakes. I know that and I do get it but that was horrible. I read the reviews online before choosing a place I could get a dinner at early in the morning (since I work night shifts and am just in town to help a local hospital). The vibe wasn't great when I walked in bc out of at least 5 staff of women, not 1 person even acknowledged my presence for quite a few mins. I asked if I could sit anywhere: although the sign said "wait to be seated." I ordered the roast beef with mashed potatoes. I ate *not more than a couple bites: it was so incredibly horrible. The potatoes were clearly boxed/powdered: disgusting, consistent pasty texture, with no butter or heavy cream, salt or pepper: just awful. The brown gravy was clearly packaged too, it was just as bad and started to get congealed. I ate my broccoli, that also was lacking in any flavor. I had hoped the reviews could be trusted. I can't believe the waitress charged me the overpriced meal when I didn't even eat it. What kind of dive serves you horrible food and then makes you pay for it too?!?? .....this one, obviously. read more

My First yelp review. To start off with we walk in this place and see a nice comfortable spot that my wife and I can have a conversation about our upcoming trip. A young lady walks over and instruct us that we cannot sit there we have to sit over amongst three groups of men. Within 10 mins this whole side was full. Within this group of men is the worst lighting I have ever seen, and I was uncomfortable right off of the bat. I should've followed my gut because it didn't get better. We order and we like our food done/cooked to order. The food comes out and immediately the waitress apologizes because she doesn't think the food is done enough. Would you like me to have it sent back to have it cooked properly? I said no I am in somewhat of a hurry we're going to eat. Again, I should've got up and left. She was right, the food was not done. The eggs were extremely runny. The potatoes were undercooked, and there was enough butter on my biscuit to butter five biscuits. Keep in mind this entire time I've got a lady walking back-and-forth because we are right next to the main traffic area and it sounds like she has kitty bells on. Not helping with my aggravation, whatsoever. She comes out with the bill and asked how things were. We let her know that both meals were undercooked, this is where my wife spoke up. She plopped the bill down and I immediately looking for cash because I want to get out of here... No matter what the waitress did nothing wrong so I was trying to leave at least 20%. I was a couple dollar shy so my wife throws a 50 down thinking that will get the job done. Didn't see anybody again few minutes passes... My wife sensed my aggravation. She asked if I would like to sit out in the car which I did and she ended up just leaving the 20 some dollars which left the poor girl only three dollars for a tip. To her I apologize... Was a frequent customer after today no more. First issue was about 3 months ago, i ordered eggs, bacon with hash browns it was so greasy even after trying to sopp the grease it was not edible we showed the waitress she said she was sorry and handed us the bill and was still charged for item that wasn't edible. Only response from waitress was she was sorry. Ok maybe a bad day we gave the benefit of the doubt and prefer to support local businesses so today 2/22/24 we decided to try again our mistake I ordered the 1/2 order of biscuits and sausage gravy w I received my order it tasted like straight raw flour couldn't even taste any sausage could only stomach a couple bites scraped gravy off of the biscuit and ate biscuit with jelly my wife also ordered a side of sausage gravy she was like wow it has a lot of sausage after looking closer it wasn't sausage it was clumps of raw flour that wasn't mixed properly not even close to edible again we brought both problems to the attention of waitress who happened to be same waitress from last bad visit she said she would tell the cook and she apologized I also asked for to go cup when she came back with the Bill and cup I noticed we were still charged for the cup of flour I mean gravy and also charged me for to go cup since I ate biscuit of of my plate I wasn't concerned about being charged 6.99 for biscuit and inedible gravy when i addressed the charges still on my bill all she said was she was sorry and as for the to go cup she had to charge me. Went for the first time recently and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered eggs toast hash browns and bacon. All were cooked perfectly. The friend I had lunch with ordered an open faced roast beef type deal with mashed potatoes and gravy. She agreed the food was tasty. My one suggestion would be new menus! They are soooo worn out and as a new custom was off putting to not even be able to read most of the back page of the menu. read more
