But in all seriousness, this place had a very large menu with many different options to choose from, which I always love. I ordered the "club classic "with french fries and a side of the smoked Gouda mac & cheese. As you can see in the photo of the sandwich is a serious sandwich that was very large and I could only eat half of it. The ingredients were fresh and I loved how toasted the bread was. I've always had a soft spot for a good dive bar. There's just something about a place with a little grit, good people, and zero pretense that feels like home. This was my first time in as I have heard good things about this place in downtown Toledo. Overall, the food here is pretty good and the menu is huge so you will definitely find something that you like. I would say the menu is pretty overwhelming to look at as there are so many things to choose from. you will get a good meal here and the portion sizes are pretty good however a bit pricy in my opinion for what you are getting. The salad was very big however it was almost 20 dollars and I was charged a good amount to add olives/peppers which I was unaware of. I thought the onion rings and brussel sprouts were a small size for the portion of an appetizer and the price and both of them I could have gone without. The mushroom burger was very undercooked, and the service was friendly however did feel a bit rushed to order. The place was cool on the inside and tucked into downtown toledo, I would like to sit on the back patio in the summer during the nice weather. overall, this place is a good spot in toledo however I do not think I will go out of my way to come back. but if you go i recommend the salad! read more

Incredible food! Happy hour from 4-7 M-F... came on July 4th and they were open!!! The place is clean and cute, with a sawn Jeep and cool old doors and plenty of exposed brick. This was the second time we came to this establishment. We stopped here last year during our last trip to Toledo. Just as last year I commented on their hours of operation. They are a full-service bar/restaurant, located in downtown Toledo, very close to the Mud Hens home field (the Detroit Tigers Minor League Baseball team). Yet they close at 8 pm every business day. Last year when we came in, I recall them rushing us (it was approximately 7:00 pm) about when they closed. This year we arrived by 6:30 or earlier and still felt incredibly rushed. More on this in a minute. The menu is large, but nonmeat options were small. They offer a Vegan Mediterranean Beyond Burger, that is advertised as "cooked separately" served in a lettuce wrap with our chickpea sauce, topped with arugula, red onion, and olive tapenade then garnished with sliced cucumber, cherry tomato, and sesame seed sprinkle. It comes with Chips. The chips were right out of a bag, so I looked to substitute a different side for $3.00. I asked about the French fries and if they are fried separately from other foods, such as chicken or fish. No, they are all fried in the same oil our server told us. I quickly requested a tossed salad, no cheese. Perhaps it's just my opinion but why do you fry everything together? The oil will taste like fish or chicken then you fry potatoes in there. They also advertise fried brussels sprouts and calamari. All goes in the same fryer. So, if you don't eat meat, you have very few options here, as even the non-meat starters are tainted. Anyways it was happy hour, and they offered a dollar off the draft list. I asked about one drink if it was a certain kind of beer, and she did not know and went to check. She did not seem too knowledgeable on the draft list, so I ordered what sounded like a hazy IPA. We were enjoying our drinks when our food came out probably within 10 minutes of ordering. I was hungry so no complaints on the quickness. My burger was fine. It was served in this big, very hard to handle lettuce bun. My biggest complaint about the burger would be the olive tapenade. It tasted fine but was plopped on the burger in a dallop. And since this is wrapped in lettuce it was not like I could open it up like a bun. So, I got a big mouthful of tapenade all at once... YIKES, salty... Speaking of salty I was mid-bite, still at least half a sandwich or more, at least half a beer in front of me when the server came over to ask, "will you be having desert?" I am chewing, which was obvious when she stopped over, so I decided to answer with my mouth full. "Maybeee" in a muffled voice, I hadn't even finished my bite. One may think it was like 15 minutes until closing time, when it was 7:00pm. I finished that bite and we both agreed to get our next drink elsewhere. The review is mixed. I liked the burger though it had flaws. The location is great, atmosphere is cool sports bar like, and the staff albeit made me feel rushed an hour before they closed, were nice. But so many other things, I am not sure I'd bother coming back. read more

It helps that the rings were cooked long enough to where they were done; not soggy or gummy and falling a part and not overdone to where they were impossible to eat. My main was the Big Italian and it was... big! Menu states that the meat is one full pound between the pepperoni, ham and salami and I believe it. I barley finished one half. The olive spread was a nice touch; makes it like a muffuletta, so that was a nice touch, even if it didn't have mild yellow peppers. Our first (and last) time here yesterday. We both ordered the Pimento Cheese burger, we split an order of onion rings and each had a "Mexican" lager draft beer. The best I can say about the beer is that it was semi-thirst quenching on a warm day. Other than that, it had no flavor - like drinking Coors. The onion rings were "OK". They were cooked to perfection, but it was pretty obvious to me they are not made from scratch. For nearly $12 an order, they should be. The burgers were cooked to our liking - mine medium rare, my SO's medium well - except the outer edges of each were well done and hard. That was the best thing I can say about them. They lacked flavor and juiciness. My guess is their burgers come frozen from a food supply company such as Gordon's Food Service. They did not taste like they were made on premise. Each burger arrived with a dill pickle spear (it was tasty) and what seemed like a pound of potato chips. Serving burgers with potato chips is not something I would expect from a place that calls itself a "Gastro Pub". Overall, the food was just OK. No reason to make a special trip here for a burger. I cannot speak for their other menu items which will remain a mystery for us as we have no intention to visit again. There are much better burgers to be had in Toledo. Service was attentive without being overbearing - which we appreciate. Ambiance is what you would expect in a building that is near or over a hundred years old. Lastly, and this has nothing to do with the food, watch your step when you exit through the main door entrance. If you are not paying attention, you will most certainly end up face planting yourself on the sidewalk. The step is short and not marked. Fortunately, we were paying attention. read more

After wandering Toledo, I was craving a burger and opted to try Ye Old Durty Bird. It was so busy at 130pm but we were able to grab seats at the bar. The bartender recommended that we try one of her favorites - Pimento Cheese and Bacon Burger - and split it with a side of salad. It comes with chips and a pickle, but we upgraded to a salad instead. The burger came out quickly and we were very happy with the random stop and choice! There is a little parking lot to the side of the building, maybe fits 20 cars at best, but there is ample street parking. I've often utilized "UberEats" for Ye Olde Durty Bird delivery. Then one day two little birdies decided to fly by for dinner. LOL! We ordered Lamb Sliders for appeteasers which was mouthwatering and tasted just as good as the appearance. To my surprise they serve Beyond Burgers. Therefore, we tried the Beyond BBQ Burger and the Vegan Mediterranean Beyond Burger. Corey devoured the Vegan Mediterranean Beyond Burger, in other words, it was delicious. The BBQ Beyond Burger didn't hit my tastebuds as hard as I was expecting. Maybe I'm too accustomed to Corey's famous beyond burgers. First time I went to the Durty Burde, I have to admit, was a bit put off by the divey look. I think it was mainly because it was for a work lunch, not for drinks. But soon understood why my coworkers took us there. I think it's the classic case of "sometimes bar food trumps regular restaurants" case. They have a huge menu with a lot of sandwich options. I guess it made sense since it's located downtown, where I'd think there are a good amount of lunch crowd, although post pandemic, I don't think that may be the case with a lot of people working from home. But sandwiches are not only for lunch, either!! Also, they have other things on their menu. It's just that the number of sandwich options are so vast that I have a hard time remembering everything else. Oh, and most importantly, all of them are actually GOOD!! For me, DB usually becomes a second or a third stop of I'm out with friends because of the semi-divey atmosphere. It's perfect to come after a meal from a more "sit-down" restaurant and have a few more drinks, and order some food if you're still hungry. Of course, there's no reason you couldn't come here for dinner, but just a personal preference. Not a single visit has been a bad one, so I don't see why I would stop coming now! The restaurant was somewhat full, but most people were actually cashing out. It doesn't appear that they have live music on Sundays anymore because there are now tables on the former stage.
