I had a taste for a fish sandwich and I pass by this restaurant on my way home, so I called in an order for a sandwich and some onion rings. The sandwich was very good with nicely seasoned and friend fish. I'd probably get it without the cheese next time, but that's no fault if the restaurants. The onion rings and the dipping sauce that accompanied it was were both very good too. The only real issue was the bartender who seemed to be in a rush to get back to her conversation with her 2 customers and didn't really give me good service. The 6 piece perch dinner was delicious. The sweet potato fries were crispy on the outside and moist and creamy on the inside. The coleslaw tasted just like my homemade one which is mayo based and sweet and creamy with a touch of celery seed. Would highly recommend. The locals seems to like it, always a full parking lot. Service was fine, seated right away, food delivery fairly quickly, and correct. Décor is pretty ordinary for its seafood themed concept, though use and wear are becoming noticeable. A very loud restaurant, sounds seem to amplify within these spaces making it hard to have on a conversation. Food, probably the biggest let down of the experience. For a restaurant with such longevity, my expectations may have been unrealistically higher than they should have been and the source of my disappointments. Three dinners ordered at our table, Tuna Melt, Shrimp Basket, and the Lobster Mac & Cheese. Tuna melt, though flavorful, was a bit nauseating - literally, the amount of butter/fat used to fry the sandwich was far too much. The fries on both the shrimp and the tuna plates were conservatively cooked, limp, warm at best, my guess is they were pulled from the fryer a second before the peak of their cooking and left to sit under a heat lamp where they steamed to softness as they cooled. The Lobster Mac & Cheese was, in my opinion, a display of culinary incompetence, the lobster, barely detectable, if you're not going to use the appropriate amount of lobster at least add the flavor, say from a stock made from the shells of the lobster. The cheese in the Mac & Cheese was broken and gritty, not at all creamy, not the definition of cheese, edible but not delectable. The experience was perplexing, believing longevity and customer loyalty would lead to an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately, unrealized expectations. read more

You honestly can't beat their quality of food. You can tell they make almost everything from scratch. Hand cut fires, in house Battered perch with house made coleslaw and the white chicken chili is one of the best I've ever had. We took a chance on this place after doing some shopping and decided to finish the day with a short drive since it was still so nice outside. We took a left instead of a right and ended up in Waterville. There were few restaurants in this area and we didn't want pizza which we chose Chowder's after a glance on their website. We waited for a bit because it was clear that the locals were also enamoured by this restaurant. I ordered the fish and chips basket and my friend got a 3 cheese grilled cheese sandwich basket. There was a lot of food, portions were large. The fish was tasty and the fresh, homemade french fries were spectacular. We both had a combination baskets, I had a diet coke, and we shared a single bowl of soup. The check was a reasonable amount, of $30. The one part of our meal that was so special that we are still talking about it, was the bowl of french onion soup we shared. If you go, we both recommend that if you like french onion soup that you try Chowders version, because you won't be disappointed. My only negative was that it needed a touch of sherry which would have calmed down the salt content a little. We both agreed that it was heavy on the salt, but still very tasty. We've eaten French Onion soup from almost every restaurant that serves it and there have been good ones and ones that were inedible because of salt. Plus I make it once, every winter. It's a relatively easy recipe minus chopping all the onions. But even my recipe is a little time consuming due to caramelizing all onions and shallots, getting the low sodium beef stock, getting the mixture of cheeses (Emmentaler and Guyere') and toasting the bread I use to finally adding the Sherry before putting it all together. For anyone making it homemade, make sure you have a small cut in half potato beside your cooking pot. If after you add your spices (Himalayan salt, Bay leaves, ground pepper, Worcestershire sauce, etc... If you find it salty, you can put the potato inside and cook it on a simmer for a minimum of 20 to 45 minutes and then remove potato. Potatoes can be added to any soups that are too salty, they act as a salt-sponge. I mention the making of this soup because it's time consuming, so we appreciate a restaurant that serves it. The restaurant itself was clean and staff was helpful and prompt. We got great service even with the crowds on a Saturday early evening. We ended the night with doggy bags. I took home half my dinner, the french fries were spectacular reheated in the toaster oven and after the cod was reheated, and I took off all breading, Tuxedo, ate the cod. They love fish and seafood. He ate all of it after giving the big sister, Hanabi a taste. It definitely did not go to waste. I definitely recommend Chowder's and Moor, it was a great find. You certainly won't be disappointed if you find yourself driving to a new town and it's dinner time read more

What an interesting place. We stopped for lunch today on a Monday and there was actually quite a crowd. They have lots of specials. The menu is a combination of so many things so there is definitely something for everyone. My husband got the clam Chowder and said it was good. Decided to give it another try, but again, it was a big mistake. First of all, the $13.99 rueben was terrible. The corned beef was heated up in the microwave which gave it a horrible taste. We've been going to Chowders for years. Had good service , good drinks& food. We went 7/27/21 into a disaster. Owner was in kitchen & refused to come out of kitchen to talk to long term customers about the 1 1/2 hour wait for a tuna melt& a couple of tacos! No manager would speak to the patio of dissatisfied customers& no offer of buying us an app, comping a dessert, nothing. Servers were beyond frustrated , such a joke, no way to run a business, not sustainable. We& everyone at surrounding tables are done!!! read more

Not much has changed since I was here last (2 years ago) other then price increases. French onion soup is very good but had them run it through twice because last time it was just warm and I'm glad I did ,much better. The sandwich was good , not great but good. It was hot and fresh. Still the price is on the high side for a burger and they nickel and dime you for everything , cheese , bacon that sort of thing. And beware if you use a charge card they take 3% extra charge. In this tiny little town of Waterville, OH is Chowders & Moor. This is akin to a little beach club you'd find on the Gulf Coast of Mexico, think Ft. Myers Beach. We walked in on Sunday at 11am for brunch and there was no wait. There is a front room with a mix of low tops, high tops, and booths and a back room with the same. The low top tables could easily be combined to accommodate a group. You walk in and it's got a beach theme, tons of knick knacks and signs telling you about their specials. They serve a variety of types of food, but they seem to focus on burgers and seafood. We ate breakfast, so I don't know about the burgers or seafood, but there are signs all over that say that they are famous for their New England Clam Chowder and Chicken White Bean something or other. There are also TVs with sports game and a full-bar as well. I know that my significant other's dad and step-mom love the fish fry here and I also know that the breakfast is pretty tasty at reasonable prices. I had the breakfast skillet, which was potatoes, a biscuit, vegetables and some sausage gravy with two eggs (your choice) over easy. It was $7-$8 and tasty for the price. In addition to the skillet, I ordered a fruit cup. $2.50 for musk melon, cantaloupe and some grapes. It could have been $1.50, but I needed fruit to offset the guilt that came with the skillet. Just an FYI, the coffee was burned, but it's basically diner coffee so my expectations were not high. Overall, the service was decent and the breakfast was good. It's a nice little place to hit for a quick, cheap, breakfast when Dale's is packed. P.S. Signs around say that the perch fish fry is huge and that they have crab legs by the pound.
