Fried Green Beens @ The Fairway Bar & Grille!
    Geo T.

So the medical staff at University of Toledo made a reference to this out of the way spot over in Sylvania OH. We redirect our drive home by 10 miles & pull into their packed parking lot. We walk in & there is ONE open table - my wife asked 'should we just sit at the bar?' Of course I agree, and all of a sudden she's bolting across the room & hugging a vaguely familiar face. Linda was in her wedding party 25 years ago, and we toured France with them 20 years ago. Now tell me this isn't this a small world? Figure the odds of this encounter! Marilyn calls her hubby & we sat and rattled off memories for 90 minutes no stop. Okay enough about the long lost AZ friends - ordered a half pound burger perfectly grilled medium rare. It had to sit 4.5 inches tall with all the LTP stacked with a toasted Brioche bun. Had to carve in half just to squeeze it into my wide open mouth. I don't know what the cook's seasoned it with but it was one of the top 3 burgers I've ever enjoyed. Sautéed Shrooms, Swiss & juicy burger were history in near record time. As we were leaving I spot the owner/manger interviewing a lady - stopped and politely excused my interruption, but paused to commend him & his staff for a great luncheon. His expression was a bit shocked as he normal would hear an ear full of grumbling comments. After all this background, would I return to The Fairway Bar & Grille again - you bet on our next drive into Toledo area. BTW heard the Toledo Symphony is preforming a huge tribute to Lead Zeppelin in May. Already got my 2 tickets & a bag of popcorn! Also rolled the dice & ordered some Fried Green Beens - simply to die for

I got a California salad while here for lunch with my family and a glass of Merlot. The salad was huge!! It was anything special but hit the spot. My family liked their meals and overall the price was under $100 for 6 people. I was sold on the price and the amount of food

I hadn't realized before that there is a large room to the right of the bar area. We were there for a somewhat early dinner at 6pm on a Saturday and the place was bustling! Definitely make a reservation. (I used Open Table online two or three weeks in advance and it was very easy.) We were greeted shortly after being seated and our server advised us of the special entrees after taking our drink orders. We decided to split the roasted beet salad which also came with herbed goat cheese. Our server brought the salad on two plates- already divided. The salad was absolutely amazing!! I am seriously still craving it and the portion was so large that I couldn't even finish my half. Our server promptly boxed it up before our entrees were served. For the main course, I ordered one of the specials- scallops with rice sauteed with spinach. My friend had pork roast with carrots, which was a large portion - no complaints and she took home leftovers for another meal. I'll speak to my scallops... They were perfectly prepared, but there were only three scallops and a plentiful serving of rice and spinach. I love spinach and this side was very well seasoned. It didn't take long to eat the three scallops and the spinach pieces in the rice. I definitely enjoyed my meal, but wished for even one more scallop. Since my entree was a special that was verbally announced, I didn't know the price until I saw the bill. While it was delicious, I found the $41 charge a bit steep. The Standard is exceptional in almost every way- service was impeccable, amazing food, lovely ambiance- but be prepared for a pricey evening. My friend and I had a very enjoyable time and I definitely recommend this restaurant. I will say, however, that it can be difficult to talk because it is so busy. That said, it's popular for a reason! Check out the photos below for a virtual experience.

I personally like to see it on paper so I can view ingredients but Im going with the flow. The service is a stand out here. Started with garlic bread bites. Server indicated there is a light blue cheese drizzle that they actually drizzle at the table. Neither of us are big fans of blue cheese and made sure to tell her when she started. She said its very mild n not overpowering. It was not mild n it was overpowering. I love love bread n I only ate one square. French onion soup was good per the man. I wanted the chicken special but when I said Ididn't care for peppers the server said she didn't recommend it then. Not sure why peppers couldn't be removed? but I took her advice and chose shrimp instead. Shrimp n mashed potatoes for me. Lamb chops n some type of potatoes for him. It was fine. At the price point($200 for 2) I was expecting more than fine. They did bring him a bday dessert but as she stated they don't sing happy birthday. Ok then. Stashed the leftovers in the car and went next door for beers n bday shots. More my speed. I would come back if its someone else's choice

When I get inside, it is packed, and guy working the register can't seem to get it to work so I just decided to pay. I ordered ribs, they're out! I ordered chicken... Out of that too. I ended up getting a sandwich. I would've never ordered Pryor, but I am glad I did. You can tell they were out of a lot of meats, because the baked beans I got were pretty much a bunch of beans, floating and barbecue sauce and not even very many beans at all The mac & cheese was decent, but nothing to write home about. I had to add a decent amount of salt and pepper. But waiting in line for 20 minutes for quick order food just to find out almost all of it was gone is a bit ridiculous It's pretty unorganized and chaotic The condiment station look like it has been ransacked, so I ended up for going any pickles or onions due to fear of some weird foodborne illness The whole experience is just a bit lacking. I can pay less money and go down the street and be waited on and have a cleaner atmosphere.

We recently hosted a retirement party for my boss here, and from start to finish the experience was outstanding. Wayne and Amy were incredible to work with while planning everything--they helped coordinate the setup, worked with us on catering appetizers, and made the whole process smooth and stress-free. They even accommodated us bringing in our own cake, which was a huge plus. They gave us a large dedicated section for our group, and everything ran seamlessly all night. The food and drinks were fantastic across the board--everyone in our party was raving. The pretzel bites with beer cheese were a big hit, and the pulled pork nacho bar for appetizers was next level. People kept going back for more and talking about it all night. But the real standout of the evening was our waitress, Karissa. She was an absolute rockstar. We had a large group with individual tabs for everyone, and she kept everything perfectly organized without missing a beat. Drinks were always full, food came out quickly, and no one was left waiting or confused. Whatever system she was running behind the scenes--it worked flawlessly. It's not easy to keep a big group happy, and she made it look effortless. Whether you're going for a casual dinner or planning a large event, this is a place that knows how to take care of people. We split a flight of beers and didn't order any food. Our flight a beer was over $20 as our flight included an imperial stout. Our go-to establishment for craft beer in downtown Sylvania charges $8 - $11 for a flight and they also usually have stouts as part of their regular lineup. Several TVs available so you can catch your favorite team playing as you enjoy some brews and food. The interior of Voodoo Brewing is definitely unique to say the least, especially the table set having a chair tilted against the table to honor those who served our country, but paid the ultimate price for our freedom. A touching tribute for sure. Each time we go by this establishment, the parking lot is full, so they are doing something right.

The burger was well done (there's a sign that says this is how the cook them, so I was expecting that). They're cooked on a flat-top, so the burgers do get that crusty edge to them. The toppings are diced... So, the problem with diced lettuce and onions is they tend to fall out of the sandwich. It just makes it a pain to eat. They used 2 slices (very thin, I might add) of tomato. The very thin, small slices were not placed evenly over the burger but stacked on top. Lazy prep on the sandwich maker's part. The bun was not really toasted and very doughy. The doughy bun wasn't unique to this visit. It's just 5 Guys standard burger bun. It's too large and really needs to be toasted (they really need to just use different buns). I didn't order fries as who really needs 5 pounds of French fries??? Especially since an order of fries is something close to $5 bucks. It's their gimmick and it's just dumb. I did ask if they had a smaller, more reasonable side of fries and the gal rather sheepishly said they did not, but she too wishes they did. Even if they offered a combo for a small savings??? On the plus side, they do have one of those seemingly, endless-choice soft drink machines where you can get almost anything you can think of. Love those! The place is clean, and the staff was nice. So, my burger and regular beverage was $14.00. I can get a better burger with fries AND A TALL DRAFT BEER at Good Times for the same money. 5 Guys just isn't worth it...
