I'm updating my review. We hadn't been here for a while but have liked it in the past. We ordered Nachos, wings, and a burger with fries. They no longer offer table service so you go to the bar to place your order. I asked for my wings to be VERY well done. I don't know why places struggle with this all you need to do is leave them in the fryer. No rocket science but they still came out soggy. The flavor was good but limp chicken skin is revolting. The burger was advertised as having fresh-cut fries. I see a trend of restaurants saying this and then serving a frozen product that resembles a fresh-cut fry. This is essentially false advertising. My husband said the burger was a frozen patty which is surprising because we have heard ppl rave about this burger. We have had the nachos before and loved the homemade unsalted chips. They were good but severely lacked cheese. Without cheese, all the meat etc just fell right off. My husband had 2 beers, PBR, and with tip our bill was $62! Which brings me to, why am I tipping you? I have to walk up to the bar to get and order my food and to pay my bill. WHY am I tipping you? I did more work to get my food and drink than you did?! To top everything off the owner's child maybe 3 or 4 was running all over and screaming the whole time we were there. Meh, not impressed this time. read more

Gave it one more try and I have to say that even though the food was good the prices are too high and the service is terrible. I think everything in the menu is $3-$5 higher than everywhere else. Almost $15 for a burger and fries!! Really! Not to mention the owner understaffs the wait staff so the bartenders are running around doing tables and the bar. What I experienced was looking at their backs the whole time and couldn't get their attention to even get a water. You're overcharging for food and understaffing the place. The Mayfly Tavern is a classic neighborhood bar & grill. The staff is completely welcoming to first-timers, and the regulars, of which there are a lot, may give you a bit of a side-eye when you first enter but will be smiling and telling you jokes before long. One might assume there would be a heavy focus on seafood, given the location on the water, but instead, it's more traditional bar food, deep-fried, delicious, homemade, and all made to order. Yes, there is some fish and shrimp, but the regulars seem more focused on chicken and appetizers. I loved everything I tried, except for the reason my friend took me out in the first place: the wings. I ordered mine "fucked up" style, which has the kitchen cooking the wings a second time after they are sauced. The word on the street is they are amazing, and the intent, I believe, is to crisp and fry up the sauce to add to the texture and depth of flavor, but what I received was just slightly burnt and too heavily sauced for my liking. They were still pretty good, but felt like an odd miss for the upcharge. Long story short, the Mayfly should be on your Point Place radar, and I look forward to visiting many times in the future. No question I'll order the fried mushrooms and cheesy jalapeno pretzels again, but I'll likely skip the wings. read more

Nice local bar and restaurant. I stopped in for early dinner around 4pm after seeing the high ratings and perch on the menu. Everyone was friendly and the place was clean. It looks like there is a nice enclosed patio in the back. The food was good and all very fresh. I had never had perch before and it was really good. The batter was well done and not too thick or greasy. It's definitely a good place to check out in the area. read more

Fried perch not bad. Most of the French fries were probably at least a day old & not fully reheated. Same with fried green beans. Outdoor seating OK if you like cigarette smoke. Wouldn't suggest eating anything indoors. Good for locals of an ilk just not me. read more

This is a nice local bar close to the boat launch. It's always a good place to grab a drink and a bite to eat if you are in the area. I really like their perch because it is fresh, crispy and very light and flaky. The fried pickle spears with homemade ranch are delicious as well. Really good food. Not all bars provide good food, this one does. Go check 'em out. U likely won't be disappointed. The perch, Italian sandwich &/or chicken wrap ought to satisfy the most angry hunger pains. As for atmosphere and ambience... bar management does a good job bringing fun activities like music trivia and good DJ's on weekend nights. People were posting on Facebook that they had good food at this place. So we decided to give it a try. Unfortunately we never got to eat. Never been there before. Walked in sat. Ourselves down. Not one individual in there. Said a word to us. We watched as a woman, took a table full of people's orders and then went over to the computer and put the orders in. We sat there for at least 10 minutes looking over the menu. Eventually some woman came out to clear one of the tables next to us and said you have to order your food at the bar. I said oh I did not see that. It's not on the menu and very snotty and condescending. She said it's a bar. So I told the woman she was a rude b**** and owed me an apology and she said no. So we left. I guess that's how they treat money that was coming to be spent in there and turned us away with some nasty person. Place has been around for a long time. I guess they survive on their regulars who put up with this kind of stuff. read more

It's a local bar with really good food. Perfect place for lunch or a early dinner. I would recommend getting there before 7pm to avoid the local bar rush. There isn't enough parking or seating and service is really slow when busy. Both the bar area and bathrooms were clean. There isn't table service so to place your food and beer order you must go to the bar which can be difficult if the place is really busy. Thursday's is $2 Taco night and they're really good. Highly recommended. We've eaten here 3 times the past 2 months and highly recommend it. Only negatives are no table service and the parking lot is terrible. read more

Mayfly tavern. Let me tell you something, wings are incredible. They have this sauce style called fuck boy. Crazy ass name but it's delicious, double dipped BBQ daddys are insane. I could have had 40 but I made a choice not to, having pot roast this week and I can't sit here and fill up on wings. Perfect spot for a football Sunday. My buddy boost recommended this spot and it's the only thing he's ever been right about. They even gave me a free beer holder, can't remember what you call them. Cootchie holder. Horrible service and rude staff! Ordered food at the bar and waited over an hour before politely asking what the estimated time would be for the food to come out. Bartender went off on us and then another staff member came up to our table and started screaming at us. They brought us out 2 pizzas and told us to get the f out. We tried to still pay and they wanted to refuse us. Left them some money. When we got home the pizzas were not even close to what we had ordered. The one girl that was yelling and spewing profanities at us claimed to be the owner lol yeah that's a great way to run a business. My guess is they forgot to put in our order and became embarrassed and popped off instead of just apologizing and communicating. We didn't want the food for free nor were we rude at allbefore they started to berate us. We just wanted our food. They were also both slurring and appeared to be very drunk while on the job. Yikes. Who claiming such high marks on this dump? Poor service is an understatement. Food is sub par at best. Slow service. You wont be waited on. You must stand in line at the bar to get anything including to pay the tab. Too loud at night. All in all - if i can give it less than one star i would. Dont even attempt to go inside with a crew. Went in to watch Sunday night football and have drinks with my 2 buddies and it was on the small tv while bobs burgers was on the big tv. A great find!! While driving from the Detroit airport to Findlay, Ohio, we made the short detour to stop at Mayfly Tavern. The food, the service (Lindsay) and the welcoming environment made this a memorable stop. We would recommend this for an enhancement to any road trip. The chef salad was full of meat, the perch was perfect and oh my goodness, those onion rings!!!! Lindsay was very helpful and gave great advice on our selections, thank you!!!!
