Maumee Bay State Park is arguably the Crown Jewell of Ohio State Parks. What might be more delightful than lunch at Water's Edge. We observed years ago that the restaurant should have been developed as a second floor property to properly view Lake Erie. Let's hope that renovations are in order... Soon. Meanwhile a first rate decorator may do wonders with this restaurant. We had one sever who was not interested in her job. A near-by window shade was stuck. Menu is uninspiring. French Onion soup rate a 3/10 compared with French Onion soup at Chez Georges Bistro & Bar, Hilton Head. Reuben sandwich is quite good. Do we recommend - Yes.... Stopped here for lunch and had a nice window seat. We were able to have a view of the water that was really nice. The staff were really friendly. I ordered the Reuben with onion rings and their special sauce. It was really good! My wife got the club which was really big! My dad had gotten the burger which was big as well and he liked it! Went here for the Mother's Day buffet. We were very disappointed. Had a 3pm reservation arrived early. We were not seated until 3:30. Food didn't have heat source and was cold. The only cold food on ice was shrimp. Nothing was labeled, food servers at buffet table were unable to answer questions about the dishes. Service was slow drinks which were not included were never refilled. We are frequent visitors to Maumee Bay state park but unfortunately we don't plan on visiting Water's Edge Cafe again. read more

We spend a lot of time at the park and I really want to like this place, but it's mediocre at best. And we've given it plenty of chances. Our last visit was breakfast, midweek. My husband opted for the buffet. The food was the same you'd expect at a complementary breakfast at a cheap hotel, and it was all cold. (At least at a cheap hotel, it is usually warm.) I ordered off of the menu and it took a very long time to get an omelet. It was a huge pile of flavorless vegetables cooked mixed into the eggs accompanied by an English muffin...no butter. There was no butter on the buffet and our server was nowhere to be found. And it's on the pricey side. With such a beautiful location, it's a shame that this is the best they can do with this restaurant. read more

Outdated atmosphere. Staff ok. Food okish. Prices HIGH for what it is. This is diner food with classy pricing. Cheap everything. Onion soup had almost no onions and a ton of salt. The Maumee Bay Twist was not made well. I couldn't finish it. Salad had wilted pieces and you could tell was not kept proper. The burger is dressed with undesirable lettuce, but was cooked well. We had the breakfast buffet and it was good food for a reasonable price. $7 for kids and $14 for adults. The service was very good. She was extremely responsive. The view of the bay/lake made for a really nice experience. read more

Visited Water's Edge restaurant for the first time today. The facilities are very nice and the service was truly excellent. We had the pub pretzels as an appetizer. Between the four of us, we each had a different entree: Cod sandwich, salmon club sandwich, the Berry Salad and the grilled chicken sandwich. Having an opportunity to get a bite of each, I would say that the cod and salmon club sandwiches were both very good. The berry salad was okay, but the chicken in it was a little bland. The grilled chicken sandwich had great bread and fresh tomato and lettuce, but the chicken was very thin, somewhat dry and had little flavor. I can also say that the onion rings and fries were good. Overall, this is a pretty decent meal in a nice facility. I would give it a go when visiting the area. Just stay away from the chicken. read more

The view is top notch. The first night we were told there was a 20 minute wait because they were too busy even though we could see many empty tables. So we went elsewhere. The next morning we went for breakfast and it was bland and way overpriced. My hashbrowns had zero flavor. The best part of breakfast was the toast... that's sad. Our entire family HIGHLY RECOMMENDS Water's Edge Restaurant, especially if you are hosting a group. The management went out of their way to make sure we had a place that would accommodate us and even wanted to make sure attendees could handle two steps up to a special "loft" area. All tables in the dining room also offer a fabulous waterfront view. Most importantly, our family...which includes some "fussy" eaters - all LOVED their meals. The menu accommodates a wide variety of tastes & appetites an the preparations at Water's Edge are excellent. Many of us ordered walleye and my husband, who is a chef, insists that whenever we are anywhere near Toledo, we are stopping to enjoy the walleye again. Salads and appetizers are huge and shareable. Our group loved the Berry Salad & Loaded French Fries appetizer, in particular. This dinner was a highlight of our four days staying at the Maumee Bay cabins and we are grateful to the entire team, including Kyla, Kim, Tina & Todd, for making our mom's milestone birthday celebration special. read more

The ambiance was great! The steak was over cooked. And the service Was extremely slow! I waited 20 minutes for the check. The staff didn't seem to care and acted like I should have waited on them. Based on other's reviews, my expectations were low. Luckily, everything was better than expected. A 6:00 pm arrival without reservations yielded a prompt greeting and immediate seating by a window. About five tables were already filled. They open for dinner at 5:00. The waitress was friendly and service was good. Though I felt the menu was limited, there was a variety of meats though typically only one selection of each except for fish. Prices were on the high side ($20's) The food was hot and very good. The onion soup was salty and had more bread than onions, but the chicken wings were crisp, flavorful and large. The complimentary bread was fresh and warm. The burger was thick and juicy and the fries were hot and had great flavor. The view out the surrounding windows was amazing. A pond and fountain were directly outside. Lake Erie could be seen in a distance over finely manicured lawns and grounds. Though I would like to see more choices added to the menu, this restaurant is worth checking out and deserves a second chance for anyone who previously had a bad experience. read more

The staff here are the real stars of the show & the reason for a 4 star review, they are kind, patient and attentive. This is not the kind of place you are going to have an unforgettable meal & that's too bad because the view is a million bucks- the sunset was worth eating here. We didn't want to drive anywhere so our group had dinner here. Here's what we'd recommend if you are looking to stay at the hotel for dinner. Burger (without cheese- unless you like overly processed cheese) Steak was really good, fish sandwich was bland but the brioche buns they come on are delish & the chicken dish was good. The salad was decent/ not amazing but good. Breakfast also seemed to be pretty good. I don't know if it's possible but this place should recruit an amazing chef and let them have free reign of the place- they have a good staff and great location and this place could be amazing. Please please someone amazing come take over this place and make this restaurant a destination. read more

WARNING there is a 3% "Beautification Fee" added to the total of your bill. There is not a breakfast menu online so I had to call the front desk to find out that they do serve breakfast. They were kind enough to email me a copy of the menu which I will include with my photos. The view from the windows of Lake Erie and the pond was breath taking. We arrived a few minutes after opening which was 7 am. We were the only people in the whole dining room. It's convenient to eat here as there isn't really any place to eat closer than 20 min away. Order: Maumee Bay $10 Comes with 3 eggs, 3 bacon strips, 2 sausage links, 2 large pancakes, breakfast potatoes, and toast. That's a lot of food which was easily split between myself, my wife and our toddler. The items were standard, basic breakfast items with no flare. We ate breakfast inside the lodge at the Water's Edge. We got a very large portion of food for just $10, and split it. There is a beautification fee of 3% tacked on to the bill. I'm not exactly sure what that was for. The food was good and the view was great. You can see Lake Erie out the large windows. A+ appetizers, especially if you can catch it on the happy hour for half price. The pierogies were amazing, I'd recommend not getting the cheese sauce on them though. Boneless wings were great, the pretzel sticks were great. Generous portion burger though. I'd recommend going with one of the other dinner menu items as the burger is nothing unique in itself. My husband and I go here every year for Christmas Brunch! The food is decent and the view is so pretty. They do a great job getting a variety of foods. This year was a little disappointing that they didnt have any breakfast food but the fruit/veggie/cheese table and the dessert table were amazing. read more

We are staying at the Maumee Bay State Park campgrounds. I told the hubby that just because we are camping this week, that doesn't mean I'm not scouting out area restaurants who have good French Onion Soup or seafood bisque! I ordered a bowl of the seafood bisque for carry-out. When I picked it up ( which took me about 10 minutes longer than I had planned) I was expecting my bisque to be just warmish. To my surprise, it was ready for me, during at the cashier station (no heat lamp) and still piping HOT! The hostess was very nice. She told me that they ran out of to-go bowl and she had to put it in two smaller containers. No problem. As it turned out, one of the smaller containers was very satisfying. Now I can have the second one tonight. I couldn't wait to dive in. So as soon as I got in the vehicle, I opened one up and proceeded to devour the whole thing. (Why is it that the best tasting crackers with bisque are the oyster crackers? This is the only time I ever eat these!. Well, this seafood bisque is absolutely delicious! Two thumbs up ... or should that be two claws up? Lol There was a great amount of seafood in it ... no skimping there (maybe because it was an hour from closing time and it was close to the bottom, but it certainly didn't taste like the bottom of the pot! Stay away. There are no recent reviews because it's terrible. 4th rate food 1st rate view. If someone had played that piano it might have helped. I didnt even bother to complain to the waitress as she couldn't care! Avoid. Now driving to another spot to have dinner. Still charged 50+ for dinner we left on our plates. We have dined at this restaurant at Maumee Bay on several occasions & yesterday's dinner was definitely something to write about!! First, our server (Gayle/Gail?) was PHENOMENAL in every way. She didn't write us off because we only ordered water & no appetizers. To the contrary, she was very quick to bring out bread, sliced lemon wedges for our water, & went out of her way to ensure we had a great dining experience. At her suggestion, both my mom & I ordered one of the specials, "Bloody Mary Shrimp Scampi," & it was amazing!! (I'll post a pic.) The shrimp were served over linguini in a mildly spicy sauce made Bloody Mary style, with lots of chopped celery and baby tomatoes. I requested fresh Parmesan cheese & it was so so delicious!! My mom also enjoyed the fresh bread. The ambiance at Water's Edge is very pleasant with full windows providing a beautiful view of Lake Erie as well as various events that are often held at Maumee Bay - yesterday was a wedding. We had a very nice dining experience. The only negative is that we had to keep a lookout for a few flies & gnats that were circling our food (probably because people are constantly coming in and out of the Resort). Still, overall a great place to enjoy the walking trails, people watching, and a wonderful dinner. Definitely recommend Water's Edge & Gayle/Gail (sp?) deserves a big shoutout for being an extremely attentive, responsive server with a very friendly, down-to-earth, positive personality!!! read more

We have been here twice this summer and have been impressed each time. If you're looking for a fast paced chaotic restaurant don't come here. Yes, it's going to take a little bit longer to get your food but it's a resort style atmosphere and everything is relaxing. We have had breakfast and dinner and both were amazing. Not to mention the appetizers are 50% off between 5 and 6. Enjoy a nice walk by the water before and after the meal. We will definitely be back. read more

As others noted you will not receive your food quickly, but the waitress was very nice and helpful, beautiful views outside, and the food was very good. Service here is very amateurish, where you get apologies, but not results. It takes forever for drinks and food to come out( even when they are not busy). I ordered a New York Strip steak, medium rare. When it came out, it was so thin that it was well done. I didn't get any remediation from the server, I only got an apology. My martini was served in a small martini glass and it was only 2/3 filled. My friend's bourbon and ginger ale was so weak, he didn't want to order another. I have friends who stay at Maumee Bay Lodge for the birding in the area, but they NEVER eat at the Water's Edge. I recommend going down the road to the Oregon Inn, instead. read more

Compared to most restaurant hotels this one is a step up. During our stay at Maumee Bay Lodge we ate here several times and all the food was very good. The staff is exceedingly nice and helpful. With almost every meal I got the fries and they are excellent, freshly cut and expertly fried. Of the meals we had and I would recommend - rib eye and fries, fresh perch, club sandwich, cheeseburger with bacon. To avoid is the french onion soup, one part soup and ten parts croutons. Breakfast selections are also good and huge. Their wine list could use some work as their draught beer selection. When we were there, in May, the waitress told us that they were clearing out the "old" beer to bring in an all Ohio selection for the summer. Nice for the summer folk but not so much for the spring folk. The mixed drinks are mostly very good and very strong. Note that you can order all of the restaurant menu from the bar if you ask nicely. read more

As far as a hotel/resort restaurant goes, I think Water's Edge does a pretty good job. We ate there for dinner twice during our stay, and both times were pleased with the experience. I think their biggest strength is a diverse menu. Over the course of two dinners with 8 adults we were able to sample a lot of the menu items, and everything ranged from satisfactory (wedge salad) to great (perch sandwich). The service on Friday evening was pretty bad. The service on Saturday was better, but both servers we had seemed to have difficulty remembering things. The view is great, and it's very convenient to have a restaurant right on the property where you can get anything from a snack, to a sandwich, to a full dinner. read more

Chose this place last minute on a Friday evening. Had no trouble getting a table. I'd call it 2/3 full. VERY nice view of Lake Erie and their pond with a fountain. Service was very prompt and pleasant. Nice menu. Will come back to try more, but was only somewhat hungry, so went with a bowl of the seafood bisque (EXCELLENT - 5 stars) and a "side" salad (large and crisp, though the raspberry vinaigrette wasn't house made). Husband had their version of fish and chips and slaw. He loved it. Fish was nicely battered, fries were very crisp and good, and the slaw was just as he like it - not too tart. I was really looking forward to my meal here. It's a pretty setting with nice views. I ordered the walleye and my friend the steak. The walleye was listed as Cajun with a lime sauce. The server said it was grilled also. Sounded yummy. The food came quickly and the portion was generous with a side of rice pilaf and squash with peppers. The veggies were very good. The rice had an odd seasoning that I couldn't discern. But the walleye was not good. Bland with A slimy texture. The strange lime sauce added nothing. I could only eat a couple bites of the fish and rice. My friend said his potatoes snd veggies were good. The steak was not great at all. A poor cut of meat. I've eaten here a few times and it still isn't all that great. I wish it were better especially because it could have so much potential. The views of the pond and lake are so nice from certain spots in the dining room and they just renovated it. My husband and I came for our first anniversary and had a steak and the perch. The steak was pretty crunchy on the outside and I had to cut a lot of it off. The perch was overly breaded. For what we paid it could've been much better. The dessert made up for what dinner lacked though. As they catered our wedding food and it was excellent I'm hoping they can improve on the food here. read more

We've dined here a number of times, at least twice during each of our stays at the lodge. The service has always been great regardless of how full the dining room is. The menu appears to get refreshed fairly often, every time we've visited there are new dishes and there is a good variety offered. The Lake Erie perch is always a good bet. The view is wonderful. Price wise it's not cheap but I feel the atmosphere, service and convenience justify it. Note that their breakfast portions, particularly the omelettes, are huge and definitely shareable. read more

My family stayed at the resort at Maumee State Park. We hardly left the compound so we dined at the restaurant for many a night. The food was pretty good however, they always seems to run out of an item on the menu, especially the "popular" items. It happened so many times I would have thought they planned ahead! If I could give this a negative star, I would. We came here for our Easter dinner. Words cannot describe how horrible it was. From the instant mashed potatoes, to the non edible ham. Meh. Was really hoping this would be another great find off the beaten path on our roadtrip from Chicago to Montreal. Not so much. We stopped here for the Sunday brunch buffet. The buffet selection was limited, barely warm and none of it, not even the salad, looked fresh (the lettuce was brown and wilted). Vegetables and potatoes were dried out looking and cold. One pasta dish looked like it was a mixture of multiple meat dish leftovers all combined together in a creamy pinkish tomato sauce. Really unappetizing looking. Comparable to the quality of the typically low end Golden Corral buffet restaurants....except with way fewer choices. Now that I think about it at least Golden Corral would have had some warm buttery fresh from the oven bread rolls to enjoy. Not worth stopping here to eat unless you litterally have no other choice because you are staying at the lodge. The only positive was our friendly waitress who was most welcoming. read more

The service here was terrible. The view was beautiful of the lake, but our waitress every night, was extremely rude. She was very unhelpful, unpleasant, and acted like she did not want to be there AT ALL. She was very rude one night for dinner and the next morning, my whole family went to get dinner and she was even more rude. She got irritated when we didn't know what kind of bread they had, and which "type" of omelet that my cousin wanted (the bayside omelet with ham). We complained to the front desk, but they were uninterested as well. I think that they need totally new servers at this restaurant.
