This place has been in my list for dinner. It was a normal Saturday morning and we were in the hunt for a breakfast spot and noticed this spot was open. When we drove to it, we noted that it was attached to a hotel so of course it's open for all meals! The I side of this restaurant was so upscale and modern. It's situated on the Maumee River and that's the background of the restaurant. Amazing views. They have a good size menu with both savory and sweet breakfast options. We were expecting an elevated experience! I did not see any signage in the lobby area directing one to the restaurant. 3 hotel workers were talking amongst themselves as we entered and left no acknowledgment. The seating areas are lovely and large prior to the restaurant. On approach I see a large counter /bus station....looks like a work station? Seems like that shouldn't be the first thing a customers gaze catches. Nice staff. Very few customers. Sat by back window view. Seating is comfortable. This restaurant looks nice but is cluttery. Asked for straws twice. The wrong meal was sat before me and then taken to another customer.The condiment plate was dirty with coffee from a previous visitor. Now the food! My husband's omelette was very good(and I do not usually like omelettes) hash brown casserole was delicious but under cooked. My food was very disappointing! Everything was so dry.My sausage was shriveled and terribly dry like it was leftovers. The brioche french toast was okay but hardly a sprinkle of powdered sugar. We ordered a Diet Coke and coffee to start and I had to remind the waitress 3 times to bring us our drinks after close to ten minutes of being seated. We waited over 45 minutes for our food and finally the I assume manger came over and apologized and said our food would be out shortly. Took over an hour to get food with an almost empty restaurant. This restaurant is hidden behind the lobby inside Renaissance Hotel in downtown Toledo. First of all, the bar offers a great selection of cocktails and top shelf liquor. The bartender, DAVID, should win the best bartender of Toledo award. He was very professional, personable, made well balanced cocktails and knew the details of the food menu. As a side note David very professionally handled a customer who became shockingly disturbed once he was told that basket of bread was not part of the menu. I sat at the bar which was very comfortable. The bar offers a wide variety of cocktails and top shelf liquor. There is a large restaurant pass the bar and additional sitting in the bar area. For dinner I decided on BBQ PORK OSSO BUCCO with a side of one of their Ohio brewed crafter drafts. Fall off the bone braised pork with well paired sides was absolutely delicious. Overall, great experience. I must admit I used to go to the restaurant on the rooftop of this hotel but that stopped after discovering this little gem on the main floor. P.S. I ate here, 2 Morning Center row this week. I had the same meal each morning, a large, three egg omelette and some slices of tomato. I also had a cuppa coffee with my meal and a glass of ice water. The waitresses did a great job and kept my coffee full. My food was cooked to order and didn't take very long, even though they were rather busy.my omelette was very large and filling, and I really enjoyed both omelettes, both days. A very good restaurant, a very good hotel restaurant. I would certainly eat here again, and would certainly try it for lunch or dinner in the near future. read more

My sister and I stayed in the hotel last night so we came down to Bring House for brunch this morning. The restaurant was very beautiful, great lighting, and comfy booths. We ordered lattes, and they were not the best I have had but fine. I ordered the southern boy delight which was sausage gravy over biscuits with fried egg and a side of breakfast potatoes. It was delicious. My sister ordered the eggs Benedict with a side of the a la carte biscuits and gravy. There was some confusion because the paper menu and online menu listed the side as $3 but on the bill they were $7, so that was a little misleading. The size was the same as my biscuits and gravy so it is a better deal to order that, rather than paying $7 for breakfast potatoes since that is the main difference between the two. Had a great brunch at Brim House. The menu wasn't on their website or anywhere we could find so we went into the meal not knowing what to expect, but were happy to see the options available. I had the Pesto Di Pistachio pasta and it was really full of flavor. I didn't want to stop eating it. The peach and burrata salad was supposed to have grilled peaches but they were still cold and there was no sign of them being grilled before hitting the plate. However, it still was very tasty with the seeds, salt and honey drizzled over top. My husband had the cinnamon roll pancakes, which I didn't get a picture of because he devoured it in like five seconds, lol. He really liked his meal, but was super full because the pancakes were very big. I definitely will be going back to try a few other items on the menu I had my eye on and to take advantage of the Bloody Mary bar. read more

Last night was date night. (In my house EVERY night is date night, ain't that right mama? Some nights, however, we even manage to make it out the door). So anyhow, last night, we made it out the door and downtown to the Brim House. To make a long story short, everything was perfect from the beginning to the end. Atmosphere: Very contemporary, yet warm and comfortable. I'm glad to see that such a great restaurant is located in the Renaissance Hotel. Food: The menu is full of innovative and well executed dishes. For example, (perfectly cooked but a tad small) scallops come garnished with, among several other things, popped sorghum...this was a fantastic touch and it's something that you just don't see everyday. My wife is pretty discriminating regarding oysters. BH's oysters were great. She also fell in love with the mussels. Me? I don't usually like mussels, but the steamed mussels at BH are served with a beefy au jus that's been flavored with (what I perceived to be) Latin spices. Bison meatloaf was my main course, and it was a big winner. Brussel sprouts with a mild curry sauce? Winner. Sea Bass on a bed of hominy? Not as delish as the scallops, but still pretty damned good. Desserts? Outstanding... try the deconstructed cheese cake or the deconstructed creme brûlée. Drinks: The Brim House featured a selection of perfectly crafted cocktails, a nice selection of local, regional, and national beer (draft, canned, and bottled), and of course, wine. The Mrs. was happy x 2. Her drinks had great flavor and appearance, and she astutely noted that ingesting them resulted in a "nice buzz." Service: Our waitress, Ashley, was fantastic. She was fast, friendly, and accurate with our orders. Additionally, she knew the menu perfectly, both the food and the drink. Further, I could tell she knew food in general. Sam, the manager, is a total professional...the Brim House is a finely tuned machine. Price: Get ready to crack open your piggy bank, but you get what you pay for, and it's worth it. We decided to try this hotel restaurant with friends. We reserved a table by the window and while it was still light we enjoyed the view. As far as the menu, it is very limited as is their wine list. Food was subpar, pretty disappointed with my shrimp Benedict, little shrimp that tasted frozen. My water had a bad taste and a small fly in it. The server Claire was extremely nice and helpful and made it worth more stars that I wanted to give. Claire should get a raise. The chef should get a pay cut. Left feeling kinda gross inside. I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights, and didn't even realize it existed, as I had heard everyone raving about another posh restaurant on the top floor. On my last night, I returned from work, looking forward to seeing The Heights restaurant but, it had been completely reserved for a company Christmas party. Sadly I asked the concierge to recommend another eatery. He pointed me to Brim House. What a gem! The 28-day Steak was amazing! The dessert was first class, made fresh onsite, including the ice cream. My waitress, Ashley was a star. So, kind, knowledgeable, and considerate. When I told her about my sad tale, she showed true empathy, and after giving me some stellar recommendations from the menu, sent her manager Terrance to visit. Terrance was so moved by my story he comped my dessert. I highly recommend Brim House to anyone looking for too-tier food, ambience, most of all world-class hospitality and service. read more

First night I stayed in and went to the restaurant in the hotel. Dinning area is L shape, following the windows, part of which is over looking the river. They have a wine room private dinning space that looks nice and could be good for customer and/or team dinners. All in all good decor. Staff is friendly. But they are still working the kinks out. I was promptly sat down after a small confusion. Person brought me water and greeted me to suggest my server will be with me soon. And several minutes later came back saying, "I guess I will be helping you tonight". He sounded unsure. And he some learning to do as a server. He was pleasant and respectful but a bit awkward. Menu is interesting but execution on dishes is lacking. I was excited to try Tuna Poke. I ordered that app, walleye entre with mac & cheese side. App: Tuna was seared in the app! Poke should be made with raw fish. They should change the menu description if they want to continue to sear the fish. The apple sauce was too thick (consistency) as well as heavy handed (too much). I had to keep wiping it off before eating the fish. The green fruit balls (not sure what kind of fruit) were a good touch and went well with Tuna. There are elements of a good dish- needs restraints and stop searing the fish! Entree: walleye was a touch over cooked, the full potatoes were again with too much of the "sauce" - swimming in it. Best thing on the plate was Brussels sprouts. But all in all it was ok dish. Restraints with dressing would help this plate of food as well. Dish was over seasoned as well. Side: Mac & cheese was probably the best of the three things. The crumbs on top was muddied but the actual noodles and sauce was delicious. A hint of smoke, creamy. When I can walk 10 minutes and be at Kengo, which I would suggest is one of the best Sushi restaurants anywhere, not just for Toledo with similar prices, I don't know why I would chose this place. They have elements to be a decent hotel restaurant, maybe even a good restaurant period. But they have ways to go. A good start would be to use some restraint with sauces and seasoning. I wish them luck. As I was almost finished eating a couple sat down next to me. They were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary. Went to Brim House as the default location for the Super Bowl (I was staying at the Renaissance) and was pleasantly surprised by an AWESOME experience and equally impressive dinner. The food was amazing, the staff (Chris, Amber, and Tony) were all SUPER helpful. This will definitely be my go-to spot in Toledo moving forward. One suggestion: I wish there was a way to get some of the great food from the full service kitchen at the Brim House up to the Heights restaurant. Located in the beautifully newly renovated Renaissance Hotel in Downtown Toledo is Brim House (1st floor). The highlight of both evenings was the desserts. The Star was the pineapple Creme brûlée . This rich custard with a hard caramel shell was topped off with strawberries and blueberries. It was served cold vs room temperature yet I still did not mind as it was incredible. It reminded me of the beach even though I was in cold and rainy Toledo. My actual meal was a Strawberry salad of which I added chicken. Overall it was tasty it was topped off with some crème fraîche and the dried slice of prosciutto. The chicken was tender yet pretty dry. I felt it should have either been left hole or thinly slice for a better presentation. They have a second bar/mini restaurant upstairs on the 12th floor. this restaurant is called the Heights. It offers beautiful views of Toledo , but with a much smaller menu and pizza only as a main course. Overall I would eat in this hotels restaurants again. read more

Was staying at the Renaissance and had a meal voucher to eat at this restaurant. Ordered this breakfast burger and it did not disappoint. First of all, I want to start with the presentation. Usually, burgers that have eggs on them get messy because the yolk leaks out. This was not the case with this burger. Everything held up in the sandwich nicely. The burger was filling and had just the right hint of spice from the pickles. The bun was toasted nicely and had a crisp look but was actually soft to bite into. The meat was cooked just right. The seasoning on the fries was perfect and I actually didn't even need ketchup to eat them. Overall, this was definitely a filling, satisfying meal and I would totally come back. In terms of the service, our waiter was a little forgetful. We found that we had to keep asking for things twice because he forgot to bring them--straws, ketchup, our coffees. Also would have preferred he gave us straws in a plastic container as opposed to ones he was touching with his bare hands. He also messed up on the order my mom had, giving her a side of potatoes when she did not ask for any. It took him FOREVER to bring our check after we finished eating. The day that we ate here there was a fire alarm, which was kind of confusing because we all were not sure whether to get up and evacuate or if it was a false alarm. Turned out it was a false alarm but it seemed that the workers weren't even sure so the whole ordeal was confusing. The restaurant itself is clean, warm and bright from the natural sunlight that seeps in. Although it can get pretty packed in here, it doesn't feel congested. My wife and I here popped in here Friday night at 5pm without reservations and we were able to get a table right away. (It was early I admit). Anyway, the experience was perfect. The atmosphere is trendy and welcoming with nice big windows. The service was phenomenal. (Thank you Viengvilay! ). I had the oysters to start and they were definitely the best I've had in Toledo. (Fresh and fantastic accompaniments) The charcuterie board was great and balanced. The complimentary bread was delicious. The fried chicken was also great and spot on seasoning. Lastly, I ordered a digestif cocktail. The bartender even came over and explained the seasonal drink to make sure I knew it would be served warm. It was also delicious and great ending to a fabulous experience. I will definitely be back soon. July 12, 2019 update My wife and I attended the chefs tasting dinner last night and it was fantastic again. It was a clam bake theme with wine/cocktail pairings for $85. We enjoyed five courses and met Chef Aaron and had great fun date night. The scallops and dessert served with a 20 year tawny were my favorite. I treated my husband to a birthday dinner at Brim House. It was a great choice for dinner as the menu had plenty of options for both of us! Our server, Connor, was also wonderful. Connor was very knowledgeable and even suggested the course that I ultimately chose to eat! We ordered drinks and the Lemon sage brown butter scallop appetizer. The scallops had a perfect cook and the creamed corn with jalapeño accompaniment was absolutely delicious. We scraped the plate clean. For our entrees my husband had the New York strip with broccolini and mashed potatoes. I chose the BBQ pork osso bucco with caramelized cauliflower purée and braised greens. My Osso bucco was delicious!! The pork was so tender and juicy along with the sauce that was on top, being salty and a tad bit sweet made for a truly savory dish with a hint of sweetness. Service was excellent as well, thanks to our server, Ahmed. Weekend Brunch Extraordinaire! Came here with the hubs while staying at the Renaissance for a wedding, and decided to check out the Brim House. We usually don't like to eat at hotel restaurants if we can help it- we'd rather visit hole-in-the-wall gems- but we loved our meal here! We were sat right away at a window table with a beautiful view of the river- the whole ambiance was on point. Our server was fast and friendly, and before we knew it we had our carafe of hot coffee to warm us up.
