When Final Cut first opened, it justified its prices with genuinely excellent food. A decade later, what you get is closer to mid-level hotel plating than fine dining. If the prices were in line with other steakhouses in town, I'd be more forgiving -- but at this level, the execution feels like an insult to anyone expecting an elevated night out. The service, to its credit, is outstanding. Friendly, professional, genuinely welcoming. Though you get the sense the staff doesn't really care about the food either. With places like the Chop House, Rose & Thistle, and Mancy's all within reach, it's hard to imagine a reason to return. Then again, Final Cut isn't really built for the local food scene -- it's built to fleece high rollers at the casino, and on that front, mission accomplished. Amazing steak, sides, and drinks! Pricey but it's all worth it! This place is located in the center of the casino (easiest way to get in here is parking in the parking garage). We met another couple here to get dinner. It looked like you could walk up and get a table but we had made a reservation just in case. The dining room is really nice and classy. Attire didn't seem to matter but we were in business casual. We had lobster bisque to start (the BEST we've ever had). It was so creamy and full of lobster! Then got some sides and steaks! The steaks were cooked perfectly and our sides (the risotto and brussel sprouts were incredibly delicious! The scallop add on was also perfect! But once we're seated inside, the vibe is very elegant and sophisticated. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. It was our anniversary dinner so we kinda went all out. We ordered a tomahawk ribeye, ribeye, seared scallops and a bunch of sides to share. Everything was prepared perfectly. Our food also came at a very timely manner. Both cut of steaks were seasoned well and were very delicious. I liked the Tomahawk ribeye better tho. There's just something about it that makes it stand out more. The sides were also good except for their mashed potato which I think lacked salt. But we enjoyed everything else. My husband had the 12 oz filet and I had the 5 oz American Wagyu. Both steaks were great in flavor, texture and temperature. He had the creme brûlée for dessert and I had some coffee. My wife and I attended final cuts new Wine Swirl last night. The tickets were $50 a person included three small samples and one glass of wine at the end of your choice. It also included three very small appetizers paired with the tasting. In my opinion the wines were at best mediocre and the food even less. We have had dinner at Final Cut many times and always enjoyed it however it does seem as if the menu has not changed and very few seasonal specials. The service is always excellent and we do enjoy the atmosphere. However, Toledo is starting to step up it's restaurant game and there are more choices now. The Bottom Line: Although the Final Cut is expensive, it's worth every penny. We've been here three times. The first was soon after FCS&S opened. It was fantastic then, and I'm pleased to say that the quality of the food and the service has only gotten better with time. Drinks: I was satisfied by an adequate-to-above-average selection of beer and whisky. As far as girlie drinks go, my wife likes her drinks the way she likes her man..."strong and not TOO sweet, but still a little sweet." Considering these annoyingly enigmatic preferences, I'm always amazed when a bartender is able to come up with drinks that she loves. She was set up nicely, about 6 or 7 times, with fancy-crafty cocktails. Service: Outstanding. Fast, friendly, accurate. Steak: Again, outstanding. I've indulged in the filet on two occasions, and one of the several cuts of rib eye on the third. Steak finishers (hollywood steak sauce, béarnaise, bleu cheese, and au poivre) are complimentary. For an extra three bucks, which will amount to about 1% - 2% of your final check, (assuming you have a drink or two...or three), you can have your steak topped with sautéed onions, bone marrow crust, foie & herb butter, or smoked wagyu butter. For me, the au poivre with a 12 oz filet simply cannot be beat. I wasn't surprised that each time, the meat was perfectly cooked...medium means medium, dammit! This time around, the birthday girl went with the lightly crusted scallops, prepared with artichoke heart risotto and verjus butter. Predictably, she had a foodgasm...she always does when we "eat fancy," but this one was a REAL toe curler. I have a bit of a buzz going on right now, so I can't remember exactly what she ate the first two times we came here, but I know she was satisfied (two more foodgasms). The atmosphere is professional and very elegant, yet, I don't feel it's stuffy at all. The waitstaff makes you feel welcomed, even if you happen to be a little under-dressed. (Fortunately for me, in Toledo, it's pretty well accepted that people often under-dress for dinner). That said, I wore a sport coat, and surprisingly, I didn't burst into flames. "Business casual" is recommended. I can't say enough positive things about Final Cut Steak and Seafood. This is definitely one of the city's finest restaurants, and quite possibly the finest steakhouse. Just be ready to smash open your piggy bank before you visit. Five stars! read more
