people eating in a restaurant

First, I want to say that I grew up going to Grumpy's. Mr. Horn, the previous owner, called me Squirt and I am proud to say that I was one of the few individuals who could make 'Mr.Grumpy' himself, smile. I loved coming here for their BLT, Ruben, and Garbage Salad and so far the quality of the food hasn't changed, it's still as amazing as it was when I was little. The ambiance on the other hand... leaves a lot to be desired. Ever since Mrs. Grumpy, Connie, passed away and the ownership of the restaurant was changed shortly thereafter, I've seen the restaurant slowly lose the character that it once had. The inside walls used to be covered with local art, the hardware sign from the original business that was in the building and pictures of Grumpy's patrons throughout the years. Now, you walk in and its, quite frankly, boring. I'm so so disappointed in the fact that the new ownership thought that modernizing the decor was a good move. It's literally lost all the life and charm that made me excited to go to Grumpy's. I'll be getting takeout from now on because there's no longer a reason to eat in at the actual restaurant. Sad

Bologna Sandwich with onion.

I don't get the legendary status this place holds amongst the Toledo lunch crowd. Yes, the garbage salad is good, but has anyone tried anything else? I ordered the Bologna sandwich with extra onions and I received the sandwich pictured. One onion slice. It was not thick cut as advertised and also was cold somehow, even though it was grilled and picked up on time. I will say the bun was good though. If this was $5 I wouldn't be upset, but they charge $11.00 for the sandwich pictured and a bag of chips. 3 stars for good salads and sides. The rest of the menu is lacking in my opinion.

Thankful for a recommendation, as I really enjoyed this downtown Toledo sandwich spot! Came here for a business lunch with a longtime friend, and we have very different taste buds, but both of us enjoyed it. Plenty of street and lot parking nearby, an ideal stop before a Mud Hens game. Friendly customer service, short wait for a midday table. An average noise level. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and understood that we were there for business and didn't rush us. I appreciated a nice surprise afterwards when the person at the checkout gave us both a complimentary home-made cookie as first-time visitors! I'll definitely return on my next stop to Toledo!

Visiting Toledo/Maumee area? Then you need to come here to eat! Our visit was at the tail end of lunch on Friday. The waitress was not that great and seemed a bit grumpy, haha! Maybe that's part of the job requirement. I can overlook this silliness as the food was amazing! The menu does not say the sandwiches come with anything but both of ours came with plain wavy potato chips. Order: Mikey's Chicken Deluxe Grilled, hot boneless chicken breast on a grilled onion bun with muenster cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, pepper rings, grilled onion, Honeycup mustard & mayo. $12 O-Ring (pic on my wife's review) A toasted bagel with Honeycup mustard & mayo. Layered with home cooked corned beef, cooked salami, Swiss cheese & onion. Warmed up, juicy, messy & divine. $10 Wow! The Mikey's Chicken Deluxe was super tasty. My mouth did a happy with each bite I took. The ingredients paired very well together. The honeycup mustard had a sweet taste to it and seems to bring everything together. ****first time visitors all get a free cookie**** You get your choice of peanut butter, chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin. ****kids get a free cookie every time they visit**** The cookies are regularly priced at $1/ea. There were 3 of us so we got one of each. These cookies were pretty good but not worth buying one on a future visit.

This is a great little sandwich shop! I ordered the O-Ring: "A toasted bagel with Honeycup mustard & mayo. Layered with home cooked corned beef, cooked salami, Swiss cheese & onion. Warmed up, juicy, messy & divine. $10" It reminded me of a Reuben sandwich but better because it was on an everything bagel instead of Rye bread. The sandwiches come with chips and a pickle spear. Kids always get a free cookie, and we got some for being first time guests! Those were tasty!

Passing thru town we stopped for lunch and what a lucky spot to find. Delicious, healthy, fresh, they have it all going Added charm was to see the local fire department stopped in for lunch, that was our first clue that food would be good here. Most of them ordered a salad so I did too. Amazing! My husband ordered a BLT, the bread was magical and the lettuce and tomato fresh and crispy, with a thick layer of crispy bacon. We will definitely stop again next time we are traveling I75 thru Toledo.

Hawaiian Wrap!
Jennifer S.

Sandwich, Salad, Wrap sort of place with fantastic reviews... My friend and I yelped this place and it was not bad. It definitely wasn't an ultimate favorite for me because I ordered the Hawaiian Wrap which is ham, cheddar cheese, and pineapples. Wasn't a fan of the wrap because the pineapples weren't grilled...and I heart grilled pineapples. My friend LOVED her "Garbage Salad" though. The Poppyseed Dressing is two thumbs up and a lesser known fact is that they SELL said dressing in small ($4), medium ($6), and large ($8) sizes. Yayyyy~ Loved the cookie from the check-in ...minus 1 star for not grilling the pineapple, but 4 stars for great service, selling dressing, yummy cookies, and the garbage salad. :)

The service was not friendly. We got two "garbage" salads. The regular one was good but the vegan one had little flavor.

Nice selection of beers, I had the cream sickle orange wheat ale that was really tasty. I had the Walleye with mashed potatoes which was very good, nice big piece of Walleye on the plate. Had the Artichoke Feta dip which was very creamy and their pita chips held up well. My gf had the steak frites which was NY strip cut into strips which was very solid along with restaurant cut fries. Nice atmosphere, friendly service just took a bit to get the food but not a major issue. If you are looking for a nice place for good food and a relaxing atmosphere this is your place!

This is kind of a hard review for me. I REALLY wanted to love this place, but a few things went…read morekind of wrong, and the ambiance, although really interesting, was off. The drinks were good, but again, a hitch. Service too... So, two of us ordered the French dip sandwich. They were just OK at best. Really no flavor, the roll was kind of wrong and the jus was tasteless. I asked (several times) for some horseradish, and I would guess it's still on its way to the table... 2 folks ordered the fried walleye, and one said it was REALLY good and the other said it was really over cooked. 1 person ordered the burger and said it was great. The last person ordered the salmon and did like it. The standout sides were the brussels sprouts and the fries. Both are very, very good. No comments about the other sides. The person across the way ordered the bruleed sweet potatoes and they looked amazing. The ambiance. What a cool place inside. A cool mix of furnishings with some kitsch factor. Not in a bad way from aesthetics, but in practicality, a big miss. When we were taken to our table, we were presented with a 1950's style dinette and chairs. Again, really kitschy, but not at all fun to sit in. The place has a cool mix of all kinds of stuff, but the noise was deafening. We tried to talk to one another, but it was really hard. Just too much background noise from all the people in a concrete, brick and steel room. Too bad. The drinks... So, I took a chance and ordered my martini. I explained how I wanted it mixed, etc. and the bartender did a superb job! Hats off to him for making a great martini! The big issue was one of our guests wanted a Bloody Mary. The waitress explained that they have great Bloody Mary's as they make their own mix. After the drinks were ordered, the waitress came back to the table to let us know they were out of Bloody Mary mix. Mind you, this is 6:00 on a Saturday. That shouldn't happen. The service... All of the drinks were ordered at the same time, and they came out in a staggered fashion over a period of 15 minutes. Same thing with our dinners. Interestingly, the hold up with the entrees was the 2nd French Dip. I would guess if the guy making the sandwiches saw 2 of the same thing on the same ticket, he'd make them both at the same time. That second sandwich took at least 15 minutes to get to the table. We're all being polite and waiting for his meal to deliver so we can all eat at the same time. Cold fish, anyone? And I'd still like to know where my horseradish went. Oh, parking in the lot to the left of the building is stupid expensive. Park in the garage across the street and save $20 bucks. All in all, our check came to about $100.00 for 3 of us. That's without the tip. My meal was a solid 2 to 3-star event but factoring in the others' opinions and negating the Bloody Mary incident and service, I'll give it 4 stars. Pretty sure I'll go back, but probably not too soon.

I had seafood Cioppino and my friend ordered Wild Boar Bolognese. We also shared Classic Hummust o share as appetizer. WOW, everything tasted great and delicious. I passed by the kitchen to go use the restroom and had to stop to enjoy all the dishes that were prepared and ready to serve. Even a simple Romaine Wedge looked so good with halal beef bacon sprinkled on it. Could not order any dessert since we both were full. A wonderful dining experience and deducting back for more if I am in the area in the future.

Went back to Souk last Saturday with 3 other dining partners and really had a great experience…read more We had a reservation and unfortunately, they seated us in the front room. It's nice in there, but it was just too loud for us. We asked our waitress if we could move to the back room. she checked with the hostess, and it was no problem. She graciously helped us move, thanked us and handed us off to our new waitress. She was really nice about everything. Our new waitress took our drink orders, and I decided to have a Manhattan. It was just the well whiskey (I'm guessing they used domestic whiskey, so the "e" needs to be there!) and it was really well made. They even used a giant ice cube that kept the drink well chilled without the dilution issues typical ice can bring. On to appetizers... We had the calamari and an order of hummus with onions and browned butter. The calamari was really nice, but kind of stingy. It was very well cooked, nicely breaded, etc. My one quibble is there just wasn't enough, especially for the price. The hummus... So, the hummus was a rather generous portion that was out of this world delicious. It was served in a large bowl with browned onions, brown butter, paprika and fried or baked chickpeas. The hummus reminded me of Middle East Market. Smooth, creamy, garlicky, well-seasoned. If you go to Souk and don't get this, you're making a huge mistake. After the apps, we moved on to our entrees... I had the crab cakes. They were really enjoyable, served with some nicely dressed, mixed salad greens. they were full of crab meat (but unfortunately not lump crab). The outside was crispy and the inside was very nicely cooked. Great flavor. One of the folks at the table had the butternut squash ravioli. It was probably my favorite dish of all that night. Amazing flavor and perfect texture. the thing that makes their ravioli the "leader of the ravioli wars" is they served them with a sherry, cream sauce that was just amazing. Kind of a sweet and savory, salty thing. Delicious. Our other guest had the Kafta Ravioli and said it was really good. I didn't try it, so I really can't comment, but it did look pretty great. After our entrees, we moved on to coffee and split a desert. Souk's Turkish coffee was great. It's been years since I've had Turkish coffee, but it was really strong and piping hot. Just perfect. We also split an order of their bread pudding. WOW! I've not had bread pudding that good since I was in New Orleans. So, my first trip to Souk really sucked (see my review). My guess is they were having a bad night, and we got stuck with a really sh*tty waiter. The place is expensive, but the food and drink substantiate the prices. Our waitress was very professional, she knew the menu and offered informed suggestions when asked. She seemed to know when we needed her. We were not rushed and really felt like they appreciated out business. Can't wait to go back.

This bar has been here probably as long as I've been in Toledo and that's over 15 years. When you walk in you see this beautiful bar made out of wood. I don't know who made it but it is gorgeous. They have a nice selection of alcohol for cocktails and Sutter Home type wine. Even a few craft beers for me. They have special events like jazz on Thursday for free with free appetizers and host comedy events on occasion. Only problem is you have to search it out. They don't do a great job of advertising.
