You know it's a good place when you arrive at opening time (7 am on a Sunday) and the parking is full and there are already a dozen people inside. The staff is friendly and quick, the dining area is well decorated and CLEAN, and you can smell it when the cooking begins. And the food is top-notch. I can recommend the omelets and the pancakes. Just moved to Walbridge and found Susies Skillet. The staff is so warm and friendly they make you feel like a friend. I asked for a recommendation for breakfast and was brought the most delicious meal. Large portions. My plate had potatoes, biscuit, sausage gravy and cheddar cheese all topped with a fried egg. If you're looking for some home cooking, with friendly patrons and staff this is the place. My husband and I will definitely be making this one of our top places to have breakfast. On a road trip and needed to stop for breakfast... We were so glad to stumble upon this little local joint in a small town. I loved the local feel and it was packed with a continuous flow of patrons. Service and pricing were excellent! Food was pretty good too. The corned beef was very lean and not at all too salty or strong. While a lot of the items seemed fresh and from scratch, others were convenience frozen items. The menu was large and I'm sure this is necessary in such a remote location to prevent food waste. I'd definitely recommend breakfast, as it tends to be made from fresh ingredients. My teenage son did enjoy his burger, fries and cheese sticks and the pricing was low for the quantity, so we can't complain. The burger patty was huge and the ingredient combinations creative. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you step foot inside it's everything you'd hoped a small town greasy spoon would be! We walked in and the Mayor of Walbridge was leaving with his to go order, there was also a table of firefighters enjoying their breakfasts along with several locals that knew the menu like the back of their hands. The waitresses were welcoming and polite, the establishment was clean and the breakfast menu was equipped with everything you could ever want to cure your hanger! My fiancé ordered the western omelette with home fries and toast and I ordered 2 eggs over easy with bacon and toast. We also shared a biscuit with sausage gravy and we each had a coffee. Every bite was as good as the first, right down to the very last. What makes it even better is that our bill was under $20! This morning, my husband and I passed many restaurants to go to "Susie's Skillet" in Walbridge for breakfast as we have done many times. We live in Ottawa County. Much to our disappointment, we were told as of this morning, 12/27/2021, they no longer serve breakfast after 11:00 AM. We could not even order "home fries"??? We just started going there quite regularly earlier this year. We eat out 2-3 times weekly since being retired and visit there on the average of once a week... some weeks 2-3 times, depending on what we're in the mood for. Food and prices have always been good to great. The service by the younger ladies, however, leave a "LOT" to be desired. Apparently, unless you are a relative, friend, or neighbor, they do not value your continued patronage as much. The one waitress, "Vickie"?? I believe is the one waitress that is ALWAYS friendly, very attentive, regardless of who you are. She doesn't know us at all nor do we know her. She is always on the ball when you walk in. We've learned to ask for her tables. The younger girls were there when we started going, so that's been almost 1 year. By now, they should "KNOW" to keep drinks filled, check on guests, clean tables off when dirty to make seating for those waiting instead of "hiding" behind the counter or standing talking to their neighbors. As good as the food is, if Vickie ever leaves, we more than likely will not go back. I know there's problems all over with the need of good help.... but for goodness sakes!!!! TRAIN THE YOUNGER ONES SO THEY KNOW TO PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR CUSTOMERS..... I have been here for breakfast with no complaints. 2 Fridays ago I ordered a Lake Erie perch dinner for 16.99, I thought the price was high, but I was in the mood for fried fish, I was in the middle of a ballgame, so I phoned the order, and ran up there on the commercial, it's only 1 block from my house. Got home and was very upset to find a pile of mushy fish and fries, not one crisp bite in the container. I took 1 bite of fish, it tasted old and the texture was gross, I threw the entire dinner in the garbage, I should have taken it back up, but I hate returning food, instead I will never return or order again. read more
