No wait on a Satueday night is a bonus! My friend had the special of the day - rissoto with sausage, peppers, onion, and marinara. She said it was delicious. I had the prosciutto balsamic chicken (just ok) with sides of mushroom rissoto (delicious) and their unique hash of Cauliflower, potato, and peas (creamy and delickous). The hands-dlwn WINNER was this peanut putter and jelly cheesecake. Holy shitake, this was top 5 deserts I've had in my life. Oreo crust, no-bake cheesecake, kn a bed of whipped peanut butter and tipped with a homemade jam. It was exquisite. Everything here is homemade, creative, and delicious. This is the sophisticated spot in BG. No greasy deep fried unimaginative meals here. Everything is out of the ordinary and creative. The meal portions are very decent and the food presentation is top notch. Its very good value indeed. Service is quick and inteligent. There is a lot of easy parking out front. It's a little off the beaten path and that's a good thing since its quiet. The drink selection is again imaginative and I appreciate a place such as this with high standards. There are a few things I would change such as have a welcoming host to seat people away from the front door, have more than one dessert on the menu, ask the staff not to congregate at the edge of the bar and chat. Food was ok. The owner was our waitress. She was horrific. We were with a group and I arrived early. I was seated about 15 minutes before the major of our group arrived. Our table was ready. We asked to order upon arrival and the person seating me said he'd send our waitress over. It took her 20 minutes to get to me. She was mad I wanted to order and expressed that to me. When my order arrives, I asked for a box and my bill. When she came back she threw my box and bill at me. I will not go back because the food was just ok and the service was horrible. read more

This place doesnt look like much from the outside, nestled into a little strip of shops, but WOW! From the moment I walked in, I was immediately greeted and brought over a drink. The great service continued through out my meal, continuing to check in if I needed anything. I ordered a glass of wine (which they have a nice selection of, at reasonable prices) and the eggplant caprese with a side salad and the cauliflower, hashbrown, and pea casserole. Everything was served piping hot and delicious. If you order a salad, I highly recommend their house sunset dressing - it has a bit of a kick to it but is very good. I have no complaints whatsoever about this restaurant - friendly service, cozy atmosphere, and delicious food! Came in on a Saturday right after they opened for lunch. They had a lighter, Lent menu, which included a huge pickle stuffed with tuna salad. Thought I would give it a try. Service was very quick and the plate arrived at the table with the bonus of a sliced hard boiled egg as a garnish. There was plenty to eat, and the tuna salad on a pickle tasted like....tuna salad...on a pickle. I walked in behind the first patrons of the day and in the 30 minutes I was there, they place was half full. I think the owner was running tables, as she told me about her mom's fresh baked Devils Food cake with cream cheese icing, taunting my diet with delectable treats. I will tell you, when she wasn't tormenting me, she was running her butt off taking care of the place. I need to come back when I'm not on a silly diet and try something a bit more challenging, but for the tuna salad, it does get a star for creativity. read more

Please note: my initial review is pertaining to both the restaurant and that of grubhub. I truly do love this place. I'm not sure if my observations are covid related, however my review can be summed up as: inconsistent. Every time we order from here we have to change our order with Grubhub because they are out of certain items. The one time we ordered and got the exact items we wanted the container of rice was not secured in the bag and hot garlic and mushroom rice was EVERYWHERE. I'm blaming the grubhub driver for not securing the bag better. The seasoning can either be extreme (think garlic breath for daaaaaaays) or non existent. Don't get me wrong, the food is great (when you order in) and the staff is friendly. I continue to support this locally owned business but can't wait for the pandemic to be over so they can get back to the quality I was once spoiled with and so dearly miss! I admire that they are still pushing forward with operations as best as possible and are trying to be as adaptable as possible during the pandemic. I know the pandemic has been difficult for everyone, especially small business owners, and I applaud what the owner and her staff have done for this community, while adapting to an ever changing pandemic. read more

Best restaurant in BG. My wife and I have been there twice and were awed both times. This is a female owned establishment and the owner and her staff put their all into the food preparation and service. We have had the blackened trout, the kielbasa dinner, the pan seared perch and the filet. All have been superb. Try the fried cauliflower for appetizer (yes, I knew I was going to hate it, but it was really good.) The house fries are to die for and make sure you check out the cake the owner's mom makes daily. My husband and I just had the extreme pleasure of dining at Sunset Bistro. We live in Michigan, got hungry while passing through Bowling Green, and relied on Yelp to find a gluten free restaurant. Thank you Yelp!! From the smiling hostess, who greeted and promptly seated us, to Kate (our amazing waitress!!), who was well-versed in how to accommodate a gluten fee diner, we felt welcome and cared for. Being a vegetarian I was really happy to see so many options! The menu caters to everyone, lots of unique items and familiar favorites. We had a little of everything and we're not disappointed! The atmosphere is calm and inviting, the music was fantastic, and the staff was all smiles! There is plenty of parking in a spacious lot, no steps and handicap friendly. There are TVS, but they are just at the bar so it isn't overwhelming. It has a feel of a comfy dining room at a friends house, low lighting but not dark at all. We found ourselves very comfortable and VERY full with the generous portions and casual yet classy setting. I am happy to have Sunset Bistro in Bowling Green and am excited to see it take off! Decided to check out the Sunset Bistro tonight for dinner. Such a fantastic experience all around! As a vegetarian, I had so many amazing options to choose from - settled on the Eggplant Caprese with a side of Creamy Mushroom Garlic Rice and Cauliflower Sweet Pea Hashbrown Casserole. The eggplant was perfectly breaded and crispy - for sure order with the balsamic glaze. The sides were equally stellar. My husband ordered the Pork Chop with the same sides and was very pleased with his meal as well. Outstanding service from start to finish. We opted for dessert to-go and it didn't make it past ten minutes into our drive. Looking forward to exploring the menu further on our next visit to Bowling Green. What a gem! read more

Holy wow. This place is amazing. Fresh fresh vegetables, chicken was hand breaded, complete and total menu. Staff was so helpful with allergies at our table, went above and beyond for us. Appetizers were fabulous; shrimp cocktail and Caprese. Ordered Garden Vegetable Pasta, Vegetarian Flatbread, and Chicken Parmesan sandwich for dinner. All were on pointe. We tried Sunset again and won't be back. I've tried & tried to like this place; the owner is sweet & the decor is cool. But the food does not cut it. I had a brie & salmon omelet. It would've been good but it was cooked in some weird GFS oil & left an aftertaste. And my husband's potatoes were not done in the middle. The worst is that as the crowd got bigger, they turned up the music louder. Unbearable noise. I like it when local restaurants make it, but I want my dollars to support decent food. Came here for friend's bday, there were about 10 of us and we were able to sit in the back patio. Very unique decor and some odd music playing but nice ambiance otherwise! We got to try the fried cauliflower and spicy corn dip as appetizers- the cauliflower flavor wasn't my favorite and the spicy corn dip tasted like corn and mayo.. I had a burger with fries in it (can't remember what it was called) and I enjoyed it! My husband ate half of it and said it was over cooked but I didn't mind. I liked the thick cut fries! Husband had the fried chicken parm sandwich and he really liked it. For the birthday the staff brought out a tiny cheesecake with a pile of whipped cream and cherry sauce. I used to be a huge fan of Sunset Bistro, but my past two visits have started leaning towards the opposite end. The food is of a higher walking and you can taste the freshness, but as with every double sided blade, you are going to pay a lot more for the freshness. With that said, I feel that my first handful of visits were always great and I came out smiling, but as the months went on, I started feeling a decline in flavor and service. It may just be me or the times visited. My last visit was the worst, as for two and a half people the bill came out to be in the range of $100, and we were not even ordering from the more expensive dinner side. We had spaghetti with Alfredo (which was drenched in sauce thus killing the flavor), the lemon pepper pasta (which this time came with much too much lemon), and a salad. I understand things build up, but the fact of the matter was that for the price we paid and the satisfaction of the plates did not match. I highly suggest the burgers though, as from my myriad past visits, they never disappointed! The dessert cakes are also very interesting most of the time. They are made by the owner's mother I believe, weekly. I wouldn't recommend the vanilla dipping player, as it was a little underwhelming, and literally made by a child (well the idea). The Service is usually great, and I actually have no complaints other than a slight pet incident. Upon asking the waitresses and even the kitchen staff if I could sit with my dog out on the patio, they all gave a resounding, "absolutely, sure, of course, yeah!". But once the owner came in, her first statement to us was not a hello or ant sense of greeting, but one of, "Could you take your dog out from the patio. You can chain it to the outside of the fence, but not in here." As I politely complied and told her if how her employees assured us, she said that, "Oh, well they don't know." Not only was a little frank, but it places question on what the employees do know? The whole team should be on the same page. The employees all treated the dog fine and even came to greet her, give her water, and pet her. It just cams out of nowhere unexpectedly when the had to place her on the other side of the fence. All in all, I do think Sunset Bistro is a fine establishment, and certainly one of BG's finest, but I don't feel the need to come and visit anytime soon again. The dog incident left a little sour taste in my mouth, and the prices seem to be on the steeper end, especially for a family. read more

We have been going to Sunset for years. We have been going even more during covid because the food is good and it's a local place working hard to keep her employees and customers safe. But there have been 3 issues over the last several months and the owner keeps sweeping them under the rug and quite frankly not handling them correctly at all. We are firm believers that if you are doing good you should hear it and we've always told her how much we love her restaurant. But we have also been honest about the bad parts. First was a terrible tasting spaghetti a few months ago. She never truly followed up on that complaint. Then there was a hair literally baked into a roll I received (along with an extremely rude server). When I complained about the roll I was told nothing like that happens and that it was hard to believe. I have pictures and I froze the roll and still have it to prove myself. Today we ordered the lobster roll. It was fake lobster and when several people commented on the post about how bad it was, she deleted the post. The dirty deleting of posts/comments and shady business practices of how complaints are handled along with the inability to take complaints (and follow through to make the situation right) has unfortunately ended our time with Sunset. We gave you many many chances and you really blew it this time. Actually your dirty delete of the complaints is what blew it for you. Poor poor practices. Also would like to add she will post a screenshot of this on Facebook and blast me as a bad customer (as I have seen her do before) because she can't take the complaints. All I have to say is, go right ahead and share it. You just make yourself look bad. read more

We were sad to have an unpleasant experience, considering the place was colorful and comfortable. The menu is unique and has interesting selections. However, we ordered the fried cauliflower. It arrived breaded, which was the first disappointment. I peeled off the breading to make the best of it and the cauliflower tasted stale to me. We asked the waiter if he would take it off our bill. The waiter said no, I don't know, I'll ask the owner. The owner came over and queried us why we didn't want it. We both repeated what we told the waiter. Now it was uncomfortable. She agreed to take half of the cost off of the bill. I have never been in a decent restaurant where management would hesitate so much - and even grill someone - about taking something off the bill for which we were unsatisfied. The worst part is that she said the dish was listed in the menu as tempura-battered. (It was not). Either she was unfamiliar with her own menu, or she lied. My girlfriend and I were passing by when we saw this new place, so we decided to give it a try. At the time, the staff told us they were still in the process of rolling out the full menu, so we were limited to appetizers and sandwiches, which was fine for a casual lunch. We started with an order of hummus, which I thought was a little bland but not bad, then she got the portobello sandwich and I got a sweet and savory sandwich called the Monte Cristo. Both were very good, and the rest of the not-yet-available menu had some other interesting stuff on it that we hope to try out in the future. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful, and the ambiance and location are perfect for the type of restaurant they are going for. We plan to go back once the full menu is up, and I will update my review once we do. read more
