Great old brick building in downtown Toledo. Great look on the inside with exposed bricks and high ceilings. Nice selection of beers, I had the cream sickle orange wheat ale that was really tasty. I had the Walleye with mashed potatoes which was very good, nice big piece of Walleye on the plate. Had the Artichoke Feta dip which was very creamy and their pita chips held up well. My gf had the steak frites which was NY strip cut into strips which was very solid along with restaurant cut fries. This is kind of a hard review for me. I REALLY wanted to love this place, but a few things went kind of wrong, and the ambiance, although really interesting, was off. The drinks were good, but again, a hitch. Service too... So, two of us ordered the French dip sandwich. They were just OK at best. Really no flavor, the roll was kind of wrong and the jus was tasteless. I asked (several times) for some horseradish, and I would guess it's still on its way to the table... 2 folks ordered the fried walleye, and one said it was REALLY good and the other said it was really over cooked. 1 person ordered the burger and said it was great. The last person ordered the salmon and did like it. The standout sides were the brussels sprouts and the fries. Both are very, very good. No comments about the other sides. The person across the way ordered the bruleed sweet potatoes and they looked amazing. The ambiance. What a cool place inside. A cool mix of furnishings with some kitsch factor. Not in a bad way from aesthetics, but in practicality, a big miss. When we were taken to our table, we were presented with a 1950's style dinette and chairs. Again, really kitschy, but not at all fun to sit in. The place has a cool mix of all kinds of stuff, but the noise was deafening. We tried to talk to one another, but it was really hard. Just too much background noise from all the people in a concrete, brick and steel room. Too bad. The drinks... So, I took a chance and ordered my martini. I explained how I wanted it mixed, etc. and the bartender did a superb job! Hats off to him for making a great martini! The big issue was one of our guests wanted a Bloody Mary. The waitress explained that they have great Bloody Mary's as they make their own mix. After the drinks were ordered, the waitress came back to the table to let us know they were out of Bloody Mary mix. Mind you, this is 6:00 on a Saturday. That shouldn't happen. The service... All of the drinks were ordered at the same time, and they came out in a staggered fashion over a period of 15 minutes. Same thing with our dinners. Interestingly, the hold up with the entrees was the 2nd French Dip. I would guess if the guy making the sandwiches saw 2 of the same thing on the same ticket, he'd make them both at the same time. That second sandwich took at least 15 minutes to get to the table. We're all being polite and waiting for his meal to deliver so we can all eat at the same time. Cold fish, anyone? And I'd still like to know where my horseradish went. Oh, parking in the lot to the left of the building is stupid expensive. Park in the garage across the street and save $20 bucks. All in all, our check came to about $100.00 for 3 of us. That's without the tip. My meal was a solid 2 to 3-star event but factoring in the others' opinions and negating the Bloody Mary incident and service, I'll give it 4 stars. Pretty sure I'll go back, but probably not too soon. read more

Hannons garage I've been to this place a couple times. I really like that they had a "divier" bar behind Hannons Block that is a bit more casual. We love this restaurant. We have eaten dinner here a number of times and it is always excellent. Most recently we were there for a private party in Hannon's Garage. Ownership was very helpful and attentive and the food was fantastic. We had the burger, chicken sandwich, fries and broccoli. Food: The dip was excellent -- definitely a 5/5. The margaritas were about a 3/5; my first one had debris in it from an un-rinsed shaker, but they did remake it. My husband's burger came out very undercooked and the fries were flimsy and underdone, and even the bun was uneven in temperature. We had to send the meal back, which made the experience disappointing over all. The plates we were given were unclean. Service: The staff was polite and ultimately handled the issues -- they remade my drink and took the problem items off the bill. Replaced plates with clean ones. However, it did take a while to get someone's attention, even though the restaurant wasn't very full at the time, so the delays added to the frustration. Ambiance: We really liked the space -- the warm brick, dim lighting, and vintage-style décor give it a cozy, inviting vibe. We got a dip appetizer, some cocktails and wine, and the steak and frites and lamb. Everything was delicious! Only complaint is that the steak was quite fatty which is not my taste. The food at our last visit left much to be desired and was not as good as other times. It was my first time here and I had high hopes. The lamb chops were cooked unevenly and mint was listed as an ingredient, but I could not taste it. The mashed potatoes were good but needed more seasoning. The broiled salmon was plain too. While neither was bad, the inconsistency was disappointing. I also tried the housemade veggie burger, which was okay but nothing special.. I wouldn't order it again. The arugula salad was better, quite good even, but still not something l'd return specifically for. Overall, while the experience wasn't terrible, it wasn't particularly memorable either. Seriously our waitress was one of the better ones I've had in awhile. Just top notch from start to finish. We both got burgers because that's what they are known for. It was an average burger but nothing special. Fries were good but along the same line. Got the chocolate crème pie and was again not wowed. Had a fudgy consistency rather than a crème I would expect from a chocolate pie. If I were downtown already I'd come back. Wouldn't really make the special trip downtown just for the restaurant. So, from the mismatched silver wear and barstools, the bare brick facades, and the cool music playing overhead, Hannon's Block has a very appealing atmosphere. It's comfortable, clean, and...cool. Perfect so far. Its location is in the heart of downtown Toledo. Cool. Still perfect. The service has always been great. Ok, yeah...still perfect. So H'sB MAY be a little overpriced. No longer perfect, but seriously good enough. I'll be honest. The food is (damned) good, but by no means is it the best in town. I've raved about the roasted broccoli, but the last time I had it, it was "just OK." The burger and the chicken sandwich are also good, but not great. I do think that the food is a little under seasoned...at this point we're no longer perfect. There are times when I drink, and there are times when I do not. H'sB can accommodate either Mike P. Great spot in Toledo! We stopped here after a visit to the zoo and were so happy we did. It's got a bit of an eclectic vibe inside. Our server was great and very accommodating. We were all pleased with our food. The artichoke feta dip was amazing. This is a must try! The house made tortilla chips were so good. We also tried the Farm greens salad which was also delicious and refreshing on a hot day. The buffalo chicken wrap was just ok and I do think the fries could have been better for this type of establishment. For dessert we went with the chocolate cream pie which we were told won an award. Had the best French onion soup I've ever had! The Dirty Dill martini was exceptional. I had the French dip sandwich and fries, I couldn't stop eating. So delicious! This place is alllllllll about that thick cut bacon, let me tell you! The breakfast potatoes were also solid. The deviled eggs, I would skip next time. They come to your table ice cold and need to warm up significantly, and even then, the flavor just wasn't for me. The space is cool, old timey, Formica tables reminiscent of grandma's kitchen...very open and nice inside, but also quite echoey so might get loud when they're busy. Very convenient location right downtown. We came in for breakfast/brunch on a weekend. I am interested to come back to try their dinner menu all the same! Came here before a walleye game. A quick walk from the Huntington center. There was a garage bar connected to the restaurant section. Loved the look of the place. It could be dressed up or casual. I liked that the menu wasn't huge but had many options. I got the spicy Paloma. It was very good and refreshing but wasn't spicy spicy. Large cocktail, beer, and wine selection. For dinner I had the burger with fries and a side of their Brussel sprouts. I added bacon to my burger and that's a must. The thick bacon was chefs kiss bc the burger was on the drier side for my liking. Fries are skinny and had a good crisp. I couldn't stop eating them. Can't wait to come back and try other dishes. Hannon's Block has that industrial vibe with a menu right out of your grandma's kitchen. They have a great beer, wine and cocktail list. Everything is made in house - down to the cocktail syrups. Their menu is packed with comfort foods. Amazing burger, fried walleye, steak frites. I love their chicken drumettes and love the homemade ranch and calabrian chili oil they're served with. One of the best sides on the menu is the bruleed sweet potato. It's like a sweet, crunchy, delicious dessert. For dessert, their chocolate pie won the best dessert during the Italian bowl. The decor, the servers' attire, the food and so many other elements within this restaurant provides an American classic experience. We made a reservation to try this place for a first time. We arrived a little early and asked if there was anything available early or if we would need to wait. She said we would need to wait for our reservations even with several open tables. She offered we go wait on the bar side which is hannons garage. The whole vibes on hannons garage are not good and is just uncomfortable. They have very limited mixed drinks on the bar sides. Once it was our reservation time we came back and got sat. They sat us in the table right next to the bathroom and the door for hannons garage. It was very loud and had a lot of foot traffic. The table probably should even exist. We got espresso martinis to start which came out totally different. They both tasted good but seemed like total different recipes. I got the boasted chicken because the server said she preferred it over the steak. It was good, but not amazing and just okay for the price. I would give them another try if I was invited. We went on a Saturday afternoon around 4:30, so I know that's an off time, but we definitely felt unwelcome. No one greeted us and after standing awkwardly at the door for a while, the bar tender eventually flagged someone down to talk with us. I understand that we didn't have a reservation, but literally only 1 other table was full and there were at least 7 staff members standing at the bar. We were told we could eat there, but would have to be out by 6. Ok, fair enough, but the dismissive and coolness continued throughout our meal. The food was really good. I had a burger and my friend had the chicken sandwich. Both were tasty. I absolutely loved the fries. My beer was excellent- a Matilda from Goose Island. My friend got a Coke and it came in a can. That's fine, but for the ambience, was a little unexpected. The restaurant was beautiful. The tables and booths were set up well. Everything was clean. That said, the cool vibe and the way we were made to feel like pariah's never went away. I understand if we were there during a shift change, but if that's the case, shut the doors and reopen when the meeting or shift change is over. We felt like a bother and it's tragic because the food was great. For those who want to go, definitely make a reservation. I won't stop back in again most likely but the food was good. This is a great restaurant! It has a very cool industrial vibe, but with old school kitchen tables. Very cool decor. The service was amazing. Our waitress was super friendly and very accommodating of all our requests. My wife is gluten free, and while it's not marked on their menu, she knew what options were gluten free and even could modify items. We got the artichoke dip appetizer and she brought veggies along with the chips since the chips are fried in-house and could have gluten cross-contamination. (The chips were super good though!) And the food... everything we got was great. There were 4 of us and we all agreed it was wonderful food. I'd definitely recommend the artichoke dip. And the brussel sprouts. Both were amazing. My Texas and California family, found warmth on the coldest night in Toledo inside of Hannon's! The decor was nostalgic! The glass candy dishes and diner style tables and chairs brought back so many good memories for us. The food and drinks were Ahhmazing! But none of that would've mattered if our server, Faith wasn't as pleasant as she was! She served with her heart and warm smile. Did I mention that it was my family's first time experiencing Hannon's?! Well certainly not our last! Hannon's Block was filled with Faith, Hope and Joy...literally!
