Came to this location to have brunch with my sister and mom after a morning hike and very glad I did. It's been a couple years since my last visit. I had one of their virgin wellness cocktails, I can't remember the name but it was a seasonal Pineapple beverage and it was delicious. For my entree I ordered the Chickichanga, which was hearty and packed with flavor. We had a short wait which was nice for Sunday afternoon. The service staff was all very attentive, polite and professional. The vibe was very laid back even though the place was full, which I appreciated! I'll surely be back again. read more

First Watch is a newer location in this area, and I am truly in love with both the sleek seating and the tasty food from the regular menu and the seasonal menu! They have great brunch beverages, fresh juices, and great fresh ingredients for the dishes. I've easily visited over 30 times, and only had one time where I had an issue with the food. Definitely try to visit this location a few times a month on weekends, and the staff is starting to recognize not just me but also my dad. Always nice to feel welcome and can always count on great coffee, food and company! read more

Arrived for breakfast and were seated for lunch. The wait was too much. Listening to the greeter, it seemed like every party that checked in were given a different wait time. Hands down worst dining experience of my life and we have not even gotten the food yet. We were officially three hours in from when we checked in and we still did not have our food. There was a table they needed to clear for us to sit. It took 30 minutes to do so. The hostess staff just looked at the table every few minutes and did nothing. I love this place as our neighborhood go to breakfast place. Their food is always on point and service is also great. I wouldn't say they have one special item that's a must get but most their stuff is really good. Eggs Benedict is great as is the biscuits and gravy which are both my go to's. If you have a gluten allergy they have plenty of options even with their French toast. The only gripe I have is I wish they had an option on their doordash order to put a spot for gluten free on the French toast. They don't have a button for that. But if you call in right after you put your order and tell them they'll make it gluten free. read more

Tried first watch for the second time ever and I ordered the traditional breakfast. Two eggs, breakfast potatoes, toast, and the chicken applewood smoked sausage patties. Overall for the price I enjoyed the meal. I also ordered a side of the cheesy grits which I'm a huge fan of And the multi grain banana almond nut crunch pancake which was amazing. I definitely would recommend giving this breakfast restaurant an opportunity. It may not be as traditional as a lot of the mom and pop shops but it's still very very good. I always leave my reviews based on my own opinions and always feel that if something looks good or sounds good you should try it. This place will not disappoint. read more

So we just left First Watch in Mesa. Decided to try this place on a recommendation from my Aunt who frequents the Sun City location and I've been wanting to try for sometime. This location looks fairly new. We were seated immediately upon arrival. We were initially greeted by a server Gabby. Then we got our server and honestly cannot remember her name. I ordered the 2 for You with 1/2 Havarati Roast beef sandwich and 1/1 Honey Pecan Chicken Salad. On the sandwich, it's served with a side of horseradish sauce that really makes this sandwich. Both were very tasty. My husband ordered the Trifecta with over medium and Bacon and Waffle. He said all was very good. He also ordered a Bloody Mary that is served with a piece of soaked bacon soaked in Vodka which he said was really good. All in all a very nice visit and good food. PLUS my husband scores big on one of their table wares. That just made his day. So thank you for good food and great service. I would have taken pics but by the time I thought of it the food was all but gone!!!! We will be back. read more

My husband and I went to First Watch for breakfast today. I have to say they don't disappoint. They did have a full house, but they usually do. The service was amazing. Our server was so nice and very knowledgeable about the menu. I have never been disappointed with their food and today was no exception. I always try to get something different. Today I had the strawberry tres leches pancakes. OMG, they were amazing. I am one of a rare breed who does not like strawberries. It feels very hipster and very retro and it just has so much personality. There is a lot of outdoor seating in what is essentially a front yard. There are tables and string lights and lots of trees and there are even a couple of playground horses. When you walk in there is a hostess desk kind of pieced together with different pieces of furniture and above it is a turning disco ball. Could there be anything better? There are booths all the way around, and there are no tables - - but you can sit at the long counter and watch your food being made. That really is the best place to sit because it is so interesting to watch them. It's amazing to me that they can keep all those balls in the air and still make all this food so delicious. There is a small bar off to one side. Make sure you go to the bathroom. The bathroom is nothing special, just a room full of graffiti and stickers, but if you look up you'll see the ceiling covered with little pinatas and a little donkey in the hallway. The menu is just what you would think for a diner menu. You can order breakfast or some sandwiches, burgers, Mac and cheese, and there is a selection of dinner entrees. Sitting at the counter we saw a plate with a steak being prepared and it looked absolutely fantastic. We were not really very hungry, and just wanted a quick small bite. Have you got that Welcome Burger, and I got the Sasha. Hubby said his Burger was good, although it was quite small. The Sasha has smoked pork and they put the pork on the grill and it becomes a crispy kind of Patty of shredded pork, then they put the crispy shredded pork patty on a noble bun with coleslaw and a fantastic horseradish sauce. My sandwich was a 10 out of 10 for sure! I kind of feel like in Phoenix there are some areas that you can go to or not, but welcome diner is a place that everybody should go to at least once. I really want to go back for breakfast which is kind of shocking because I'm not a breakfast person.

I have never felt as unwelcome at a restaurant as I did during our visit to Welcome Diner…read more I arrived with three friends and two dogs, encouraged by the dog-friendly patio. Before we could sit down, a waitress abruptly warned us that rain was expected in three minutes, that the dining room had no available seating, and that pets were not allowed inside. We decided to take our chances, retrieved our own menus, and sat outside. More than 10 minutes passed without anyone acknowledging us, despite staff serving other customers. My friend even tapped on the ordering window and was ignored. When the same waitress finally returned, I asked for a Bloody Mary, and she appeared noticeably disappointed that we had decided to stay. Her response was an incredulous, "You're staying???" We explained that we were willing to take our chances with the weather, at which point she informed me that they were out of Bloody Mary mix. I then requested waters. Another 10 minutes passed before she dropped off the waters without taking our order. After another 10 minutes without service, we left, having spent approximately 30 minutes feeling ignored and unwelcome. We found a much better experience across the street, where we enjoyed attentive service, delicious food, and a welcoming dog-friendly patio. I understand that weather, seating limitations, and restaurant policies may be beyond a server's control. How guests are treated is not. For a restaurant called Welcome Diner, the irony was especially disappointing.

But I can judge simply food or filet a trout or chicken and add a homemade beurre blanc sauce. I like simple red wine but relish a Camus anniversary bottle. We eat at hole in the walls and expensive places. But often we look at each other and choose between Dennys or VI, and are happy! Today, May 16th at VI on Signal Butte - rough start by a waitress who told both of us "I need to know your pie order. NOW." Resturant was not busy. Not at all. It was 4:15 maybe. Slow on a SUNDAY post-winter visitor rush on a late Spring day. Rushed. I pointed to my 3-6pm dinner choice of TURKEY. I showed her. "Just as it comes. She repeated it back to me as she typed in into her handheld computer. Chicken fried steak arrived. And a sausage looking oval patty shape of stuffing. Two long finger prints in it. I wondered if she picked up my loose stuffing as it's normally served here in America, or rather the chef did this to all who request it. I told my husband to look for spit in his food. My hubby? Nicest guy ever. But when he knows I didn't want and could not manage fried beef..but I had fasted 21 hours. I needed sliced fresh high protein meat. Wait another 15 min or eat the mess on my plate? I told her I'd eat it. Truly don't like complaining let alone confrontation with a Russian native with a sharp attitude because of a rough life. My nephew is from there so I GET the trauma. and I though I know I can usually switch my palate. But not for this plate of food. I felt sick looking at it. "Just eat the 'steak' I picked the stuffing apart - could not eat more than a thimble. Gummy gluten salty yuck was inedible. The FINGERPRINTS! 2 Fingertips past knuckles imprinted. I left it and hope someone there stopped to think "Why?" Our Waitress tried to make up by suddendly being nice when she walked behind me with a second piece of pie ...to go home. Thanked me for being agreeable or something. I nodded. I remember this saying if you l oh someone's attention the first three seconds and first three steps you'll spend the next 30 min trying to make them believe you're hiring. It's true. I was too tired this week to be extremely understanding but I'm never rude. I told my hubby let's both let this one go. And I said "But we won't return here." He nodded in agreement. Because I see people come in and sit down I see how tired they are and make quick calls to be able to turn their day around if only for a short time before they return home....to being a caregiver or to grieve a loss. Sad dinner and maybe she had a tough week too. But. But times 3 over.

Gabe's service was top-notch from start to finish. Their warm greeting and attentive nature set a positive tone for the meal. They were knowledgeable about the menu and offered great recommendations. Now, let's talk about the star of the breakfast menu--the biscuit and gravy. First Watch truly knows how to make this classic dish shine. The biscuits were freshly baked, with a perfect balance of fluffiness and a slight crispness on the outside. The gravy was rich and full of flavor, making each bite a comforting and indulgent experience. Overall, the combination of Gabe's excellent service and the mouthwatering biscuit and gravy made this breakfast at First Watch a memorable one. I highly recommend both the server and this delectable dish for a satisfying start to your day. read more

Tried it, not impressed and don't plan on returning. Couldn't make my simple plain pecan pancakes so had to eat over sweet carrot-pecan pancakes which I couldn't. Way to sweet but the 2 sausage patties for $4.89 were good but expensive. My wife's BnG she said we're ok but her potato side was so burned neither of us could eat them. Disappointed in the 40 minute wait for seating, very long wait for food delivery and wait again for check out, why? No more of our hard earned money will be spent there. Sorry. read more

The seating hostess asked, "Patio is okay?" I answered, "Yes, that is fine. We don't mind." And at this time, there was NO ONE seated outside, so she said it would be about 10-15 minutes. I said that was fine and went to wait with my family. About 10 minutes later my app said that we had been checked in and our new wait time was 0-5 minutes. It was not. We waited until 11:31am to be seated, and were seated INSIDE? No one was outside. We figured there must not be anyone available to work patio. We ordered our drinks and food right away as we had time to think about it during our wait, and knew what we wanted. Our food came out, but we didn't have silverware or our drinks (Morning Meditation and Blazing Dragon). My husband had to get up, go to the bar, and ask for silverware. We had water and my daughter had her apple juice so we went ahead and started eating. Our waitress came by and asked if we needed anything else, we asked, "Can we please get our drinks?" She went to get them and they were fairly watered down from the melted ice by that point, but they were still good. My food was okay. The pumpkin pancakes were a bit mushy in the middle, but otherwise tasted fine. Chicken apple sausage is always good. My over medium eggs that I gave to my husband were hard. And while eating his pancake he said, "Why does it taste burnt?" His top pancake looked fine, but when we picked it up, the second pancake was burnt. We told our waitress and she said she would have it redone. The second pancake showed up and again, it was burnt, not as bad as the first but still enough for it to taste burnt. Our waitress took it away. The pumpkin donuts were exceptional. My daughter liked her pumpkin pancakes, but she didn't understand why they put chives on her eggs. I told her probably because pumpkin pancakes were not on the kids menu, but we can let them know no chives next time. We were about to leave when we looked outside and they were seating a family of 6ish people. Maybe they got someone to come in? Overall, it was busy, there were some kinks... the food was alright. The place is clean and you can tell everyone is trying their best during the rush, we were just the unfortunate ones who got the domino effect of things not working out.

But enough time has passed, and I figured it was only fair to give the place another chance. When we arrived, there was about a 10-minute wait, which I actually consider a good sign. I would much rather see a restaurant with a little line than one that looks like it is waiting for its employees to arrive. My girlfriend ordered the Meat Lovers Omelette, which she was able to customize to her liking. She reported that it was really good, so apparently the omelette and her are on better terms than I was with this place years ago. I went with the Mexican Skillet. I like my food to have some texture and, preferably, a little crunch, so our waitress, Sandy, recommended having the home fries deep-fried. Naturally, I accepted this challenge. The result was...interesting. The potatoes were definitely crispy, but somewhere along the way my brain stopped registering them as breakfast potatoes and started interpreting them as potato chips that had somehow wandered into my skillet. It messed with my breakfast senses a little. Sandy even admitted the potatoes are not always consistent, which I appreciated. At least we were all being honest about the potato situation. The chorizo was good, although it leaned more toward an Americanized version than the deeply seasoned, distinctly Mexican chorizo I was expecting. Still enjoyable, just a different flavor profile than anticipated. Overall, though, the meal was good, and there are several other things on the menu that caught my attention. That is usually the best indicator that we will be back: when I leave already knowing what I want to order next time. And now, Sandy deserves her own paragraph. She was wonderful. Sweet, personable, clearly hardworking, and attentive without hovering over us like she was conducting a federally funded breakfast surveillance operation. She checked on us an appropriate number of times, was helpful with recommendations, and genuinely seemed to care about our experience. So, after giving this place a second chance, I would say the verdict is: The past has officially been forgiven. The food was good, the service was even better, and there is enough on the menu to warrant another visit. Sometimes restaurants deserve a second chance and apparently, so do breakfast potatoes.
