I used to like this place when they first opened and I have taken carry out in the past. However, on a recent visit where I attempted to eat in and impress a friend I was very disappointed with the lack of customer service and cleanliness of this place. When the hostess attempted to seat us, there was food in the seat and on the table. My friend pointed out to me that the menu was placed on the dirty table with food on it. I asked to be seated someplace else or if the table and seat could be cleaned and we were told that all the tables were dirty. Also. The floors were so sticky my shoes were sticking to the floor. We decided to leave and go someplace else. I will not be returning and it's a Shame because the food was very good. read more

Literally everything on the menu is fresh, well-made, well-seasoned, and delicious. But this place is BUSY. Don't even TRY to go on Saturday or Sunday after about 9:30 or you're going to have to wait a few hours. Seriously. Even their nowait app or something can't get you in faster, it just tells you not to leave home until 40 minutes after you get on the app. Takeout is the way to go on those weekend days where you slept in. Also the juice bar is delicious. We love their 3 option hash option - the parma is the best we've had. Also the smoked salmon option for the eggs benedict is so good. So is the french toast with berries and the lemon ricotta pancakes. And if you do get takeout, they package everything separately so while you take your food home, certain parts don't get soggy or gross. Really professional. Be prepared to wait to get a seat and to get your food, but it is WORTH IT. read more

A great place for breakfast on an early weekend morning. Beware the lines are long, just because it is so popular. The restaurant had many vegetarian and organic options. I liked their pancakes which can be ordered separately. They have an extensive menu to choose from. Many different varieties of omelets on offer. Wonderful way to have breakfast on weekend mornings. I think we're all kinda sucked into the atmosphere of this place and when you compare the esthetics to that of Denny's and IHOP, well; there's no comparison. This is a lovely restaurant. The expanse of windows, makes it bright and welcoming, hardwood floors throughout, lots of open space, subdued lighting, chalkboards, hanging cutting boards, an interesting menu and a hot cop of joe, waiting for you - upon entering this restaurant. Beyond the décor, I found very little pleasing with my breakfast, an egg white omelet with the scantest amount of turkey (microscopic cubes), onions, tomatoes (teeny tiny dices) & feta (totally absent). The spinach that was supposed to be folded with the other ingredients, in my omelet - lay one leaf on top, as a decorative measure; I suppose. The side that arrived with my omelet was a sliced, mealy tomato and an English muffin with a ramekin of ketchup? Sure looks like ketchup to me. So, I asked the server for jam and said that it's on your table. Pointing at my ketchup, our waiter informed us that this was jam and not ketchup. He said people think it's ketchup all the time. Now, this is a no brainer - if customers think the jam is ketchup, then shouldn't the waiters inform their customers of this or better yet, place your jam in a white ramekin. Forgetting about my previous review, I ordered the fried potatoes - bagged frozen then fried - not worth the carbs. read more

Today was my first experience with First Watch (in Laurel), and it made a great first impression. Everything about it was top-notch. The hostess was warmly welcoming even after she found out that my husband and I are gluten-sensitive. The general ambiance is comfortable and attractive without being fussy, with tables adequately spaced and generously sized. The menu was interesting and clear, and had ample options for various dietary preferences as well as plenty of choices beyond the standards. Our server, Douglas, was friendly, quietly efficient, attentive, and had the good sense to see to things like extra napkins without interrupting us. The coffee was excellent, served in a carafe that kept it piping hot and allowed us to decide for ourselves when to pour more; the mugs were large enough without being overly large, and shaped to keep the heat in. Several creamer options were on the table, and we were able to get additional half-n-half quickly on the first request - a rarity in our area! Our omelet was perfectly cooked and delicious, the grits came with plenty of butter, the gluten-free toast was above average, and the "million dollar bacon" was struck us as worth the price. Everything about the restaurant and the meal spoke of thoughtful attention to detail. All in all, it was an A+ experience, and we will be back soon. read more

I ordered the Tri-Athlete this morning as a take-out with a side of grits. The Tri-Athlete Omelet was good, however, the grits (you could tell) came from a batch which was burned at the bottom of the pot. It was that nasty burnt taste throughout the dish. Not very appetizing. read more

People were coming in and getting in front of me, there was no order, no line, no awareness. I've been here three times before and each time there's been confusion about who is serving us and then our servers just dissapear. I will not be back. Food is only half the battle, and even if the food keeps you coming back, you'll tire of the poor service very quickly. Go to IHOP instead. read more

First , let me say I am s BiG first watch fan. I frequent them anytime I can and even drive out of my way to go to one while traveling. I was sooooo disappointed with my experience at this location. First , there was a 10 min wait. Not a problem. However when I went back to the bathroom I observed tables of 6 with only 2 people sitting at them. Why not separate the tables? Second , although there seemed to be a lot of staff around it seemed quite chaotic. Our waiter Chris was as attentive as he could be giving the slow kitchen. We waited 45 minutes for our food. It seemed like only one table of food came out every 10 min or so. There seemed to be a lot of people in the kitchen but they were not producing. And then the food comes out. I've been to enough first watchs to know what my pancake should have looked like. It was about 1/3 smaller than every other one I ordered. So,,,, please,,, take a good look at this location. Waited 10 minutes to get seated with no line and no greeter and finally seated myself. Heard someone in kitchen mention and a waiter tell another waiter. Do you think someone would have rushed over and apologized and bring a menu - noooo that would be too good of service. I watched observed for 5 minutes - still no one greeted or acknowledged. I got up to leave and heard one of cooks say "That's not good" walked out and went to another breakfast place down the street. It's a shame This new First Watch has really slid downhill fast. I am sooo happy to have a breakfast option close by that serves food that is fresh, as local as possible and tastes and looks like it didn't come out of a bag or box and was reheated. Everything is always delicious and despite long waits for a table on weekends, service has been quick and servers are always personable. I try to get something different every time especially with all of their seasons specials but I'm hooked on the bacon, tomato, avocado hash! This place is pretty busy on weekend mornings and the staff are definitely new employees. Overall, I would compare it to a decent diner. This was our first time trying this restaurant and it may well be the last. We had a 10 minute wait which was made better by the courtesy cup of coffee. However, we had to wait nearly an hour for our food and it was lukewarm when it arrived. I ordered the "trifecta" which consists of two eggs, two bacon strips and one large pancake. I questioned if it was really two eggs because it looked more like one. My bacon was undercooked so I asked the waiter to warm my food in the microwave. The chef did not think that was appropriate, so they made it over. That took about 10 minutes but my friend was done eating by that time. The waiter was very nice although it took him about 30 minutes to get the hazelnut cream I requested. He offered me a complimentary juice to try to make up for the long wait. Perhaps they are a victim of their own success as all of the tables were full. I just don't think the kitchen is equipped to handle large crowds. read more

The food was delicious but the service was subpar. This place is a refreshing change from the usual breakfast options in the area. However, the waiter seemed to want to rush us through our meal by asking if we were ready to order our meal at the same time as our drinks. We were not - we then had to flag him down when we were ready to order. The food came out quickly (although what restaurant in MD has no Old Bay is beyond me) and was absolutely delicious! No complaints! The waiter however did not notice that the water bottle needed to be refilled on his many walks past the table. The check situation was strange to say the least, but whatever. We took some guests from out of town here to brunch, and we really hoped it would be better. The food was good, but the service was extremely slow. Additionally, our party of four did not receive our entrees at the same time--two of us were served, while the other two sat and watched, then a third was served. The fourth member of our party didn't receive their dish until ten minutes after the first, with absolutely no word of apology from our server! It was rather awkward, trying to encourage those that were served to eat, lest their eggs get cold... And when the final dish was served, the poached eggs were overcooked to a hard-boil--but we didn't complain, not wanting to wait for a replacement after already waiting forty minutes for our food. Our server didn't ask how the meal was, which I found strange, but the check out person did. I did mention the service at checkout, but while they did apologize, the damage was already done. One of the few times in my life, when I entered this spacious and airy restaurant I knew the food would be creatively crafted, made with fresh ingredients, and be delicious. I was not disappointed. I ordered hash and eggs. Eggs are cooked to order and top a hash mixture of diced potatoes, sautéed onions, applewood smoked bacon and garnished with slices of avocado. First let me start off by saying this is our favorite breakfast spot in the laurel area. we went in over the weekend and there was a wait as usual.We sat right next to the kitchen and our server was great.his name was Chris or something similar. Long story short idk what happened but another server with long dreads loudly called my server a bitch and idk why but it was completely inappropriate. He also Proceeded to approach him as though he wanted to fight him. I pray that someone in management gets this because no manager was around and I actually witnessed this guy with long dreads push my server while a Asian server yelled at my server and told him how if he knew something this wouldn't have happen..my server deserves accolades for staying professional and actually walking away very quickly after being physically assaulted. And I am also a gm at my store and if it was my store this long dread guy would've have been fired on the spot.pray you guys do what's right because I love my server and it would hurt my love for this store if when I return on my next frequent visit if the assaulting employee is still employed..pretty sure I'm not the only one to see the situation but it was a shame no manager was present at all. read more

Tried this place out yesterday for the first time. Won't be back. Opens at 7:00 so you would expect that the kitchen would be fully up and running by 7:30. There were a few earlier birds than us, but we were seated in the booth with a birds eye view into the kitchen. It was over five minutes before our server came to introduce himself and ask if we were ready to order. After placing our order with him, he brought out a pot of coffee, poured two cups for us and left. That was the last we saw of him. We spent the next 25 minutes watching the rest of the staff arrive for their shift and I was delighted to watch a disagreement break out between two of them and was treated to the display of dishes being slammed down on the counter. All this was going on as the restaurant filled for the morning rush. Finally our breakfast came out after sitting on the warming plate for 3 minutes before it was brought over. Ironic really, the food was cold. It tasted nice, but would have preferred it hot. We had to flag someone down for our check, we were not asked how our meal was..... Guys, you need to.
