Over easy eggs, bacon, potatoes with onion, rye toast, chipped beef gravy, and coffee.

Walking through the door I have stepped back in time. An old style diner that's been around for ages. Quiet and just the right amount of AC during this heatwave. Had the breakfast special. Loved it. Cooked exactly as ordered. My server, Donna, represents the kind of server we love. Filling your coffee, which was very good, before you have to wave at her and wait for ages. Knowing to bring extra napkins at the start of the meal with being asked. Not to mention bringing enough extra napkins. It's the small things that are so important. My over easy eggs were actually over easy. Service was quick. Since I used the restroom let me report it was clean but very small. There are bars to help in using the low seat. Finally, Donna. She knows the regulars. Working the front all on her own when I was there. Both in house and take out. Excellently done. If this is your thing then come by and eat here. You will be happy.

Micro Review: Quick stop in Laurel and stumbled on the diner. Quaint and a local spot, but breakfast was spot on. Ordered the triple play - coffee was strong and great pick me up! They take credit cards for payment. Looked like they had enough parking as well. I really liked the home fries and appreciated that the waitress asked me if I wanted them with or without onions! Most places don't give that option... cute diner if you're wanting a filling meal.

Many years ago I was an extra in the tv show Homicide: Life on the Streets. We did a shoot once at the little motels down in this area of Laurel. The producers were going for that no-tell/hourly rate vibe. Anyway I put that out there to set the stage for your surroundings if you navigate to this spot from the more tony parts of town, or out of state. It's an area that has seen fresher paint, cleaner windows and better times. The food is regular, no frills, "home cooked". There is no stack of creme fraiche on your pancakes, or sprigs of green adorning the omelette. This morning the bacon was, as my wife described done as if put under a press and forgotten about. It was like bacon chips...quite tasty if not the texture I normally go for. The sausage patties had suffered the same fate. There were scrambled eggs (a little bland), and I had pancakes (a little grainy). I think maybe the cook had other things on his mind, or a bit hungover. I like that, I want a cook in a gritty little slightly run down place to be "complicated". No knock on Shirleys for example, (great place, can't wait to go since we are back in MD), but the country needs places like this too. If every restaurant is a spotless (and often soulless) corporate money generator, we all lose. I think you have to have some sweatpants "just okay" meals in order to appreciate those times you stood in line waiting to be seen at brunch in your Sunday best. Tastee Diner is okay, we will likely come back.

Hubs grew up in this area, so while reminiscing, we decided to stop at Tastee Diner. So, this place is very dated, and I'm so cool with that. It's not the cleanest place and gives me a Waffle House vibe, but our server was lovely and made the experience fun. We sat at our table and looked at our menu, which consisted of traditional diner food. I got pancakes and eggs, and hubs got liver and onions, which were really good. Make sure to stop by but leave your pretentious mindset outside. Greasy spoon expectations only!

It's a little whole in the wall diner, it does what it's supposed to do. Nothing stellar, but if you want something quick and decent to eat at a low price then this is a good spot.

Tastee Diner is a nice little diner I between the North and Southbound lanes of US-1 North of Laurel, MD. It has a nice atmosphere with many regular locals. I was greeted as soon as I entered, and served coffee shortly after sitting down (oh, BTW the coffee is delicious!). I tried the international omelet with fried potatoes, a short stack of pancakes (they have sugar-free syrup), iced tea, and a biscuit. The food was very good, and listening to the banter between the customers was fun. Overall a great experience, which means I will be back

Grilled cheese and ham (with tomato added) for the win!

In March, it will be a year since we have been going to this diner. And by that I mean, practically EVERY week since then. We've tried their sandwiches, breakfast platters (the BEST) and even been there late enough to consider our meal 'dinner'. As I said in my previous review, it's nothing fancy. But it's good eats. And the kitchen has never taken more than 9 minutes to prepare our order, sometimes even less. Seriously, try the huge breakfast platter (see my pics). You can thank me later.

Bread pudding, I've cream and coffee... Perfect late night meal
    Kenya G.

This was a cute little dinner we found late one night before I drove through the night. I got a coffee and a piece of bread pudding with vanilla ice cream. The waitress was nice, she was attentive and our food came out quickly. Coffee was coffee, it was satisfying, however I wish she didn't wait for me to ask for more coffee. The bread pudding was good but the ice cream was too soft. We were are to stay there and enjoy our timr, which was much appreciated. I would come back for a late night meal again.

Today, I gave them another shot because Uber Eats was offering a buy one, get one free deal on the jerk chicken meal. I chose rice & peas with plantain for my sides. The chicken was cooked on the grill--which I love--because it really brings out the flavor in jerk chicken. I also requested my jerk sauce on the side since I prefer a dry rub style over a saucy one. The only drawback was the small bone pieces in the chicken and rice. That's something to be cautious about, especially if a child is eating the meal. The plantains were also inconsistent--some pieces were hard, while others were mushy. On the bright side, the coco bread was perfect and the Jamaican rum cake was phenomenal. Whoever baked that cake clearly took their time soaking it in rum. It reminded me of the way my grandmother used to make it--absolutely delicious. I would definitely order the rum cake again.

Usually with brunch we would do the bottomless mimosas and all but because I was driving I decided not to participate in that. And usually I would get chicken and waffles but I was in the mood for a burger. So I thought because their name is "Mad Cow" the burger would be the bomb...but nope it was not good at all. So I prefer a beef burger cooked medium with blue cheese, mayo, lettuce, tomato, and onions. When I burger got tot the table it was dry as a board. No blue cheese that I paid extra for and the burger was not cooked correctly it was cooked well done. Smdh. So the waiter brought me my blue cheese apologized about it and also gave me a mayo bottle. Even with the burger still was not good and the patty was so thick with no flavor not even salt and pepper was in it!! I tried their punch drink which was really good but for $15 a pop in a regular water glass was ridiculous. Make sure you don't get too tipsy as they already have like a 20% gratuity added on each of our checks no matter how small or big your group is which again is ridiculous! Will I come back...maybe only because I would like to try some Jamaican food they offer. But for brunch...it's a no for me!

Our server "Tai" was very rude and inattentive during our visit on Friday May 22nd. It took 10 mins for anyone to even greet us and that was after I'd gone back to the host stand to ask for a server. We he approached us, he said "what can I get for y'all" not once did he properly greet us or even introduce himself. As we ordered our drinks, we asked for calamari as an appetizer. After 15 mins of waiting for the drinks, I asked where was the calamari and he "never put it in" which I'd figured out at this point. Throughout our visit, Tai never once checked on us, refilled our waters or cleared our very small table of empty dishes after we'd eaten. Instead, he was enjoying the basketball game behind the bar and assisting the bartender. He'd left several tables unattended and didn't seem to have a care in the world. Ultimately, I had the manager on duty remove the 18% automatic gratuity from our check and didn't leave Tai one red cent. I feel like I will return to this location for the food. As I stated before, the food is exceptional. Service is awful in my opinion and needs some major adjustments.

The cheese was melty and abundant, though I would've loved a bit more balance with the sauce--it could've used a touch more seasoning or tang to cut through the richness. When I finally stopped by, I actually enjoyed myself. I liked the atmosphere, the energy, and the overall vibe. I even thought it was somewhere I would return to regularly, especially after learning that it was a black-owned business. As someone who intentionally supports black-owned businesses whenever possible, I was excited to have discovered a new place to support. Unfortunately, that changed at the end of the night. As closing time approached, I was standing with a glass of wine in my hand when, to my surprise, a member of the security staff (tall African American man with locs) randomly walked up to me and took the drink directly out of my hand. There was no "Excuse me." No "Ma'am, we're closing, I'll give you a few seconds to finish your drink, then you have to leave." No polite request to finish my drink and make my way out. Nothing! I completely understand that businesses have closing times. That is not my issue. My issue is the complete lack of respect and professionalism in the way the situation was handled. There was absolutely no reason for anyone to remove a drink from my hand without first speaking to me. A simple conversation would have accomplished the exact same result. Instead, the interaction felt rude, unnecessary, disrespectful, and honestly insulting. What bothered me most was how easily the situation could have been handled differently. A customer who is calmly standing with a drink in her hand should not be treated as though she is incapable of understanding a simple request. Respectful communication costs nothing! As someone who makes a conscious effort to support black-owned businesses, this experience was especially disappointing. I walked into The Hideout wanting to support the establishment and left feeling more disrespected than I have ever felt at any business I have patronized. After sharing my experience with a few individuals, I was surprised to learn that more than one person reported having negative interactions with the same security guard. I can only speak to my own experience, but hearing similar stories from others makes me wonder whether this behavior is an ongoing issue rather than an isolated incident. It is unfortunate that the actions of one employee completely changed my perception of what otherwise appeared to be a great establishment. One employee's behavior was enough to ensure that I will not return. I do not spend my money where I am treated with disrespect, spoken down to, or handled as though I am a child! I sincerely hope management takes this feedback seriously because no customer should be treated this way. Respect is the bare minimum when interacting with paying customers, and this entire situation could have been avoided with a simple, polite request. Please train your staff to do better!
