I went on a Sunday afternoon for brunch and it was very packed. I believe we waited around 20-30 minutes. I loved everything I ordered! I first ordered their seasonal spiced cranberry mule. It tasted great and was fitting for the season. I also ordered the chicken and waffles and a side of French toast. They have an extensive menu and even have a happy hour. I was excited to try the new Eggspectation in Burtonsville after enjoying the location in Downtown Silver Spring so many years ago. I went for a weekend breakfast with my parents and arrived with a nearly empty dining room at 8:30am -- but business certainly picked up by the time we left. The service was attentive to start, but definitely drifted off early in the meal. Food took a long while to arrive, even with the empty dining room, and we were frequently waiting for drink refills on coffee and water. The food was good, but it wasn't hot when it came out from the kitchen. We eventually had to flag down our server to get our bill. I'm all for a leisurely meal, but this was egregious. For the price point ($20+ per entree), we won't be back any time soon. Service is better at our local iHop and nothing we tried was good enough to lure us back. read more

So here's my first time at this location, it's a new hidden gem in Burtonsville. I came out to dine in at around 10:30 am for a late breakfast. The place was clean the service was prompt and the servers were amazing. I sat at the bar just to be serviced being I was alone, Kelsey was my bar tender. She was amazing, articulate and helpful... the highlight was she made my latte amazingly well. The taste of the latte was balanced with just enough almond milk for me to still taste the coffee. We were here a couple of months ago and the experience was ok. Decided to try again when an email came about salted caramel beignets. The beignets were disappointing. Busy Sunday at 12;20 and we got a table for six faster than expected. Interior is nice but a bit loud. Great menu with something for everyone. I ordered breakfast tacos and expected a warm handheld offering. Instead I was served cold food, eggs, meats, potatoes, on tortillas laid flat on the plate. The plate was very warm so I assume it was intended to be a warm dish. Taste was fantastic (I never return plates) and was satisfied with my meal but for that price that was a major fail. I had been to their old location years before they closed down and had a good experience, so I came back to see if it was the same. I had come for brunch but I was more in the mood for lunch food, so I ordered their Margherita Pizza. The food tasted good and our server was very friendly. The decor looks a lot better than how it had been decorated in the past; it's more vibrant and lively. The portion sizes are bigger than they were at the old location, which I feel is better for the pricing. I would definitely return to try new dishes. After having eaten here several times with overwhelmingly positive experiences, unfortunately their management and service have completely fallen off a cliff. Our most recent visit involved being sat outside right before an impending rain storm, multiple visits to the bar to get water, silverware, etc., no food whatsoever (conversations with management indicate our orders were never put in), and being told the experience was our fault for sitting outside. Eggspectations has a lot of potential but missed the mark for me. The space is lovely and has a great aesthetic and feel, but the food is hit or miss and the service isn't great. I got an Arnold Palmer to start which came out very quickly. I also asked for water and I meant water for the table, but the server only brought 1 glass rather than 2. We ordered the duck poutine to share and I ordered the eggspectation breakfast sandwich. The poutine was SO good, super flavorful and the duck was tender and the cheese was great. The sandwich was...meh. The bacon had a weird artificial smoke flavor that I didn't like (I also don't love bacon so do with that what you will), and the sandwich was otherwise dry, it needed more chimichurri, aioli or hot sauce to round out the texture and the flavor. Service is a bit slow here but I think it's because they are more popular than they were before. I got the Southern omelette and it didn't have any cheese and had quite a bit of eggshells in it, I wasn't impressed for a place called Eggspection. I felt nauseous after eating them. I've been excited to try this place since it opened, and got to finally today. Sadly, it was a bit of a let down. Inside, the place is gorgeous, and has a lot of potential. I hope they can improve, as it'll be worth it in the future. We were seated quickly, and I got a smoothie. It was pretty good, and I put in an order for poutine and an omelet. The poutine was supposed to be an appetizer / starter. After about 20 minutes, it came out simultaneously with my omelet... the duck confit poutine was amazing, and I had high hopes. My omelet was overcooked and dry. Blargh. Service was slow. I finished my smoothie, and needed another drink. It took over 15 minutes to get my server's attention. It's amazing to see how Burtonsville Crossing has redeveloped because for many years, it was a ghost town. It has been revived into something much greater and beautiful now. Thoughts on the food and drinks I tried: The Manhattan was strong but good! Definitely asked for some coke with it lol. The garlic bread is flavorful and even had a kick of spice, the lemon blueberry ricotta pancakes were so good I wanted more of it. The firecracker shrimp and garlic shrimp were flavorful as well. Crab cake was good, but it had a lot of filler, which is to be expected. Chicken schnitzel was good too and the caramel from the gooey bread was so delicious, I scooped it up even after the bread was done lol. We visited during their soft opening since this is a new location. As expected, Eggspectation, had great décor, a full bar, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Our server was wonderful--she helped me choose a dish, keeping in mind that I don't do well with spicy food. She was right; the spice level was very mild. However, I didn't really enjoy the pasta. It was cooked well, but it just lacked flavor for me. My husband ordered the same dish and thought it was great. As someone who lives in Burtonsville, we had been patiently waiting for some nice restaurants to open around here so it was very nice to see eggspectation open in this area. The restaurant is designed well and is inviting, the servers were all very nice, although service was a bit slow and we could've gotten a bit more attention from our waitress but we went on July 4th on prime brunch time so they were super busy. Food was decent, I got the all American and my husband got the crab cakes- which were actually very small. We also tried their croissant French toast and marshmallow French toast, which were both decent. I absolutely love it here! I go after I leave the gym next door. Usually sit at the bar and enjoy the brightness, a little bit quietness and cute quirky decor. Came back a few months later once I signed up for the gym and got the breakfast bagel sandwich with turkey bacon. Loved it, might be my goto especially because it's only $15 or so. Recently I went and got the Greek salad witch grilled chicken. It was a nice size bowl with just the right amount of chicken. Just a bit too much olives for me but that's okay. The drinks are really good too, hate that forgot where they were called but it's this orange drink with ginger in it, so refreshing! The food and service at this new restaurant are quite good, but it's worth noting that they're still learning the ropes. The prices can be a bit steep, but for some of the meals, it's worth it. My spouse and I have been there three times now. Our first two visits were with Cici, who was a very sweet and kind server. However, my last visit was with a server who barely checked in with us and seemed visibly unhappy. It might just be personalities, but that was my experience. Their menu is very creative. On our most recent visit, we ordered the Bene-Ducked and Fried Chicken & Waffle. The duck was pleasantly surprising, not as greasy as the meat can be, but it could use more flavor. It sat on top of an untoasted croissant, which would have been better if it was a bit toasty. The duck, poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce together are already soft, so I think it needed some crunch somewhere. The poached eggs were a tad overcooked and not as runny as I would have liked. The side salad was great, considering the dressing on the same salad during my first visit was a bit too lemony for my taste. The Bene-Ducked was filling but lacked flavor and wasn't worth the $23 price. Still, it was a fun experience to try. The Fried Chicken & Waffle was much better. It was juicy, crispy, and flavorful. The waffle had a nice crunch, and it was soft on the inside. Sweet and savory fans will love this dish. I would definitely get it again. The chicken was very tender and seasoned well, and combined with the waffle, you'll be stuffed and in a happy food coma by your last bite. Eggspectation, known for its eggs, is also famous for its Lyonnaise-style potatoes. Served as a side with most of their menu items, including benedicts and omelettes, these potatoes are supposed to be crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. However, my experience has been disappointing. Each time I've tried them, they've been too soft and lacking in that crisp texture. My spouse, on the other hand, enjoys them that way, and some may as well. The Eggsuberant ($18) comes with two pancakes, two eggs any style, and your choice of bacon, ham, or Fontanini sausage. It's also served with Lyonnaise-style potatoes. The pancakes had a surprisingly lemony aftertaste, which my spouse enjoyed, but I wasn't a big fan. I've seen some reviewers mention that the bacon tastes artificial, but I don't think that's entirely accurate. If I were to order this dish again, I would either opt for substituting the pancakes with waffles or try the french toast instead. My favorite dish so far is the Eggspectation Crêpe ($15). I'm a fan of a combination of ham and cheese, and adding eggs and hollandaise sauce makes it even better. The crepe is incredibly light, and everything melts together - so delicious! Overall, Eggspectation has a great atmosphere and is very tidy. However, expect some slow service since they're a new restaurant and are busy during peak breakfast and brunch hours. The chicken & waffle was a generous portion, though the chicken could've used a bit more seasoning (I'd recommend asking for Tabasco when you order). The shrimp & grits, on the other hand, were absolutely delicious. I went back two weeks later with my sister for Sunday brunch to give the spot another try. Same situation with the wait -- about an hour seems to be the standard. This time we were seated near the bathroom/kitchen, which wasn't ideal, though thankfully there weren't any funky smells. We started with the Gooey Goosebread, which is very reminiscent of monkey bread and sooo good. For entrées, we tried the breakfast taco trio (solid choice, but note that the chorizo has some spice) and the Grand Marnier French toast.
