Across the street from McDonals and other businesses . This is Restaurant 198 . This place has my people in love the Spanish. Over here o order Empanadas, The ooh Ooh steak and cheese . I love the different pies and cakes they have . My aunts I have here have always been protective of me since I was a child . I hope to get a job here someday to own up to my spanish heritage someday soon . I've ran away too long from who I was . I dont care what other Americans think anymore with this crooked administration. This place has a huge parking area and as yoy see they have a huge back porch area . Insidevthey have a huge barista arwa where they serve all assorted drinks including exotic drinks, To sodas , And others , iced tea too . .This is a relaxing place to come to to embrace my mixed heritages again . Theu have huge 8ndoor dining areas hist stage arwa neat the front door . They have a somewhat open concept kitchen where they perform their magic to make your best foods you could ever want and cant find anywhere else. They have great menus as well . One thing disappointing no wifi plugs to charge cell Phones. I will be filling out job applications here hand in my resumes . I hope they let me work here someday to be the bridge between other Americans and the Spanish to undue the mistakes of the past including the Covid Pandemic . We came for dinner on a Monday night. They do trivia in a part of the restaurant where we were seated at first. It felt a little loud, and also off when there was a whole portion of the restaurant that was empty where they weren't doing trivia! We asked to move and were reseated promptly. I ordered the mussels in a garlic-wine sauce. I knew this could be risky because I wasn't sure that's what they were known for, but took the chance anyway, They came out quickly. The server also brought another bowl for the shells with a small fork and spoon. I tried one that had a broken shell and it tasted...off. Like the mussels weren't fresh off. I tried a bite of bread in the sauce and the sauce tasted like nothing. It was very bad. I flagged over the server, explained what was wrong. She promptly took it away and took it off the bill. She asked what I wanted instead, so I went basic and got the 198 burger. It came out a couple minutes later. The burger itself was really tasty, well cooked and well seasoned. It could have used some additional sauce that wasn't mayo but that's personal preference. It came with fries. They were blah, very soggy and greasy, so they were basically untouched. My advice - go simple, and it'll be fine. I'd go back again for another burger, wings, etc but wouldn't go out on a limb again with something more adventurous. read more

The menu is mostly classic America comfort food with some Latin American fare (empanadas, burritos, nachos). They have a comprehensive breakfast and drink/bar menu. They also have gluten free and vegan items marked for easier identification. I had the orange spice crispy tofu sandwich with a garden salad instead of the usual fries. The sandwich was on a warm soft Kaiser roll with lettuce, onions and tomatoes. The tofu slab was breaded, fried crispy (but greaseless) with a citrusy creamy dressing. The salad had red onions, cucumbers and romaine. All items were crisp and fresh. The dressing on the side reminded me of a crema sauce. It was filling and tasty but not heavy. I ordered the 198 Iris platter: eggs, French toast, smoked bacon and hash browns. The entire meal was delicious! I loved the generous portion of eggs, I could taste that they were farm fresh. French toast was beautifully cooked and had an amazing vanilla-forward flavor. My only distaste is that I wish the hash browns were crispy. So, it was my first time here and I came solely to enjoy the delicious empanadas! It is the word on the street! I was greeted by friendly and warm customer service. The ambiance is very diner-esque, it feels like a cozy diner back in the 1950's! Now, let's get onto the empanadas! I ordered a shrimp empanada which came with a tasty romulaude sauce, and a chicken and beef empanada that came with a delicious salsa verde style sauce. The empanadas were seasoned perfectly, filled with juicy filling, bountiful in size, and delicious to the soul! My favorite was the beef empanada! Ladies and Gentlemen, I didn't want to write this review. I wanted to gate-keep one of the best margaritas in the DMV and bring a select few to enjoy it. The owner shared that it's a family recipe, now it's only fair that I stop being selfish and tell everyone :D I love the kitten on the wall, the decor, the seating, and how clean everything is. The food is a blend of American and Latin with a few dishes to represent MoCo (look at the salads)! There's also a vegetarian menu boasting tacos, enchiladas, and burgers; so everyone can be happy! My personal favorite has to be the Smashburger and those empanadas. All the empanadas. 5 stars for the following: Beef Picadillo Black Bean/Corn Crab&Shrimp** Plant-based Beef/Potato Mushroom&Cheese (kinda tasted like a calzone) and 4.5 for the Shredded Chicken. Tiny little pockets of happiness served with cilantro ranch (so tasty) and good vibes. The only one I wasn't fond of was the Chorizo/Jalapeño. Came across this place on yelp and decided to try it out. It was pretty empty in there for a Sunday afternoon. I ordered the cream of crab soup which was very good!! I would recommend that. They have shrimp and grits, but sauce is overpowered by the taste of tomato. You can't taste the seasoning if there was any. 4 large shrimp but they were overcooked and the sauce to grits ratio wasn't that great. I will say the steak and cheese was really good! Our server was nice but she was slow. For it to not be crowded it was really slow service. I ordered steam shrimp as well to go. The shrimp was a nice size but sadly they were over cooked as well. From the moment we walked in, the staff was warm and accommodating. Angel, the manager, did a great job getting us situated. Now on to the food: it was flavorful and hearty, and you can tell it didn't come prepackaged from the freezer. The empanadas were spectacular, and had a great home cooked feel to them. We took some home but we'd have ordered more if we'd have known how bomb all the food would be. This place is now easily in my top 10 restaurants. I came here to meet with a friend for lunch. They have free parking but the lot was surprisingly full for a weekday. They have additional parking in the back. Restaurant 128 is like a modern diner. They have a dessert case (though desserts weren't being showcased) and advertised several community events, including live music and bingo nights. The brunch menu is available until 2pm. They have a sizable plant-based menu and happy hour is Monday - Friday from 4-7pm. We came on a Friday afternoon and there were several tables of senior citizens enjoying brunch. There was ample seating. Service was lovely, but the food was just ok. We started with the mussels for our appetizer (~$16). The mussels were slightly overcooked and chewy. The first mussel that I had was gritty. There were also a few empty shells with the mussels missing (and they weren't at the bottom of the bowl). The lemon sauce was tasty overall, but could've used a dash more salt. It is also served with two pieces of garlic bread which was perfect for sopping up the sauce. The size of the appetizer is good - if you wanted to, it could pass for an entree. For my brunch entree, I ordered the Huevos Rancheros (~$13). It typically comes with breakfast potatoes as a side, but I was able to substitute the breakfast potatoes for the hash browns instead. Kudos to the waitress and kitchen for their attention to detail and executing our modifications as requested. The Huevos Rancheros dish was nothing to write home about. The fried egg was too fried for my taste - they were over hard/well done as opposed to my preferred over easy, but I also didn't specify. Similar to the mussels, the dish was also light on seasoning. The table does have the typical condiments - ketchup, hot sauce, salt and pepper, etc. - to jazz it up yourself. The dish wasn't offensive, but I don't think I would order this again. Restaurant 128 has a nice community ambiance, but the food I ordered didn't wow me. Service was pleasant. I would come back to try the happy hour menu, but I'm not in any rush to return. read more

We are so proud of the staff here! They're trying so many new things, and doing a terrific job at it! The burgers, Cobb salads, empanadas, avocado toast, mussels, all are delicious. The environment is great; we usually get to sit near the outdoor garden, which has a fountain in it that the birds love to sit and take baths. I know it sounds stupid, but what a wonderful view while you're having dinner! It beats the holy tar out of a TV screen showing something that I really don't care about! My friend is a vegetarian and was SUPER excited that they had an entire menu section for her (it might have been vegan, but I'm not 100% certain). There were at least a dozen options for her. There were plenty of Sunday Brunch options at fair prices, which was good. I had a western omelet. It tasted fine but there was also nothing special or outstanding about it. Not as loud as other places so somewhere in between. Probably not the best place for a quiet conversation. Parking: Enough spaces but can get filled up at busy times. Service: Very good. Our server was able to handle our group of 8. Temperature: Too warm inside. Needed more air conditioning. It was a crowded Sunday brunch and extremely hot outside with 90 plus degrees so it was too warm on the inside. I was really looking forward to this place. The menu is well conceived overall with unique flavors to try another time like lemon flan and there are many items like that or bananas flambées I can eat even with my allergies. And it's great to be able to bring a vegetarian or vegan person along. I also liked that once we arrived we didn't have to wait to be seated even though it was prime brunch time. I wouldn't say we had Customer Service so much as response to requests. What I mean is we would ask for something but the server wouldn't listen to everything or would get something slightly wrong or forget. All that happens when there is lots to do. Sometimes though the server would leave without hearing everything we had to say, and so they would go and come back repeatedly. If they were listening instead of reacting, would've probably been less frustrating. Some parts of the food were great and some parts less so. Other people liked the chicken sausage. I really liked my huevos rancheros. My preference is not to have salsa verde, but that's all they had. I also like that they served the eggs and beans on two big gordita type of blue corn tortillas instead of chips or a soft tortilla. Someone ordered tea and they only mentioned black or green tea. This person did not want any caffeine. Upon leaving, we saw very big rack full of herbal, chai and different flavors of tea. Why didn't they tell us or just bring us the tea to choose? Water was also not hot so they basically paid almost $4 for some warm water that they didn't want. One thing about the menu is that you would be paying almost $20 for pancakes, eggs, and meat. That seems unreasonable. The 198-scrambled eggs and omelette had zero seasoning: no salt or pepper or anything. So I could tell people around me did not enjoy it as much. The hashbrowns were pale, undercooked and a little greasy. We put all the hashbrowns together to get recooked. They came back light brown, but were ok. We got them to go so we could griddle them properly at home. My sautéed potatoes were amazing, fresh potatoes cooked in very fresh oil. Not greasy at all and very enjoyable. Others enjoyed the pancakes, warm, toasted bagels and eggs after explaining what Sunny side up meant. We had to ask for water an hour into the service and get a coffee refill when we got the bill. Unfortunately the bill also left a bad impression on me. I noticed the items ended in a different amount and didn't match the calculation done in my head. Upon review at least four items cost more on the receipt then printed. I felt this was in bad faith because it's only going to be corrected if the customer sees and asks. They could have put a sticker on menus that there was a 5-10% up charge on final bill. But that was not done. So until the restaurant updates its menu prices or tells you the receipt will include up charges on everything, you may want double check before paying. No one I was with gave it a full thumbs up. But I might give them a try for happy hour or lunch/dinner. read more

Eggs seemed like it was a liquid mix which I also don't like. Hard shell fresh eggs are so much better and healthier. Chicken sausage was ok. Service was good. We were greeted nicely and seated right away. Our server was attentive. I gave an extra star for that. I came here for dinner with my family on a Friday night. I'm not sure if it's a regular Friday night thing, but they had live music. We had the option to sit in the music area or outside of it. We opted for inside. Instant regret. Lol. It was so loud, we had to pretty much yell to talk to each other. But it ended about 15 mins after we sat down. I had a strawberry margarita to drink, and it was delicious. I was actually feeling a bit buzzed after having it. I ordered the broiled salmon and opted for the garlic seafood sauce. I popped in for a quick lunch. I thought I would the Lobster Street tacos. They were fantastic. Perfect size, full of flavor with aoli on the side.
