This is the exactly the kind of place you want in New England. The Fireside Tavern Sherborn balances the historic with the modern. The sizeable interior includes more than one dining room and an entirely separate bar area. There is also outdoor tent seating, which may only be in the warm weather. You might remember this location as the old Sherborn Inn (a long time ago), but it's been reborn. Forget everything you knew about the past establishment, this place has a new life. The staff is awesome. They are attentive and well trained. The kitchen staff is knocking out a lot of great comfort food. Steaks, fish and chips, and a variety of handheld sandwiches. Most of the seafood seems to be locally sourced form Captain Marden's in Wellesley. The food is delicious and well prepared. I highly recommend the chicken sandwich with caramelized onions and Vermont cheddar on foccacia bread. I made it disappear very quickly. So good! Tuna tartare app was divine. Maybe not a traditional comfort food for New England, but I'm not complaining. It's nice to have variety. The chef delivered a dish I would come back for again and again. There's so much to try. I regret not getting the fish and chips, after later seeing pictures. The Ribeye was awesome though, cooked to perfection with mashed and asparagus. Don't forget dessert as well! Every little detail here is accounted for. You can tell the owner and staff are breathing new life into this location and it shows. With a full bar and variety of wines and mocktails, you will find something you love. Overall: You MUST visit this place for your comfort food fix!

    Fried calamari

Last minute we decided to try the fireside tavern. It's exactly the kind of place you want to eat at in New England. Old and Very charming. We sat at the bar, bartender was very attentive. We had fried calamari for an app which was a large portion and perfectly done. Delicious! We split shepherds pie and salad. Excellent. Atmosphere and food were excellent. Will definitely be back.

The food was fantastic! Service was very good. I chose the lounge because it was supposed to be quieter. It's really not. Very, very busy on a Saturday night. I love how cozy the rooms are. We had cocktails (French 75) a very nice French Chardonnay, swordfish and halibut. The food and drinks were excellent. Decent prices as well. Well worth it!

We had a lovely brunch at Fireside Tavern, just a little over 30 minutes from Worcester. I enjoyed the Taverm Bloody Mary with all of the fixings. I had the mushroom omlette adding chorizo sausage, and he had the brunch burger. Everything was seasoned perfectly, and the service was great. I also loved the bathroom cat decor. All and all absolutely worth the ride, we'll be back again!

Coming from a big city like Las Vegas, this little wine store is what you hope to find when you come to New England. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of flashy stores and wine bars with enomatic wine systems and tasting credit cards, but it's nice to walk into a shop that looks like someone's HOUSE from the outside. Space is a little cramped but the shelves are filled with gems priced under $20. Yes, there's certainly pricier bottles but I wasn't in the market for that this day. The interior is invitingly merchandised and you'll find a fair selection of cheeses for a small place like this. Instead of the expected one bottle I walked in to purchase, I bought four. I had a chance to meet the proprietors and they were gracious and helpful and so was their staff. They have wine tasting classes and free wine tastings on Fridays from 5:30 to 7:30. "Walk in as strangers, leave as friends."…read more If that's not a saying that makes you want to head there now, then I don't know what is LOL! Obviously, there is more to the new renovated location of La Cantina than this saying but I will say I was pretty impressed when I saw it and knew I had to add it to my review. Let's just say it is pretty accurate. We did leave as friends since we made a few at the bar and then some. Just saying! La Cantina winery in Franklin, MA used to be a small wine bar that offered wine tasting flights and minimal food. BUT, now it is in a stunning new location (not far from their old stomping grounds). Fun Fact: It used to be a Mechanic garage. Well, wait until you see how it has turned from fixing cars to wine making and tasting. YOU HAVE GOT TO COME HERE! Parking is easy with plenty of spots. They have a lot of room at their gorgeous bar, but they also have high tops and tables for families or a large group. And, they host events here too; birthday parties, bridal showers, and anything in between, this place is it. I actually want to hold one of my milestone birthday parties here but well keep the number a secret for now. Service: Alana was our bartender and she was wonderful. Always asking us what we needed and how were doing. You don't get this upscale service any where else. And, when I wanted another sample of something she gave it to me without a fuss. Always with a smile on her face, she was the best. Wine: They have an excellent wine menu to choose from and they offer flights for about $25 pp. Flights are the best way to try multiple wines. I personally loved most of the red wines with Petit Sirah being my favorite. My husband loved their Barbera! I did sample their Sauv Blanc too which was nice but it was too cold to have a full pour. Food: Their menu is great with a ton of options from charcuterie, to tapas and some entrees. I will say some of their items can get expensive but definitely worth it. We started with a few cheeses and prosciutto. Then we ordered one of their popular pizzas called La Cantina. Everything was fresh, made in house with their beautiful pizza oven right smack in the middle of the bar. You have got to see this thing, its huge! Overall: If I could give this place 10 stars I would. We had the best time and we can't wait to go back. Franklin is not far from where we live but still a good 30 minute drive and also not far from the Wrentham outlets. We didn't have to make a reservation for a Sunday afternoon but I bet Saturdays can get pretty busy. I just loved everything about this wine bar and I know you will too! Cheers~

She explained the wine flights and offered a sample of Reisling to my girlfriend, who preferred Moscato, which La Cantina doesn't offer (though no one trait does in New England). Thankfully Alna had a similar palate to that of my girlfriend, and they quickly made a connection. Love that! I chose a flight of reds and ultimately preferred the Clone 8 above those that I tried, thigh the Cab Sav Reserve was a close second. The Drunken Goat cheese sample was delicious too! The menu definitely has us eager to come back for food. And for those who aren't wine drinkers they have a small selection of beer and a cider. The atmosphere is lively and open, and looks like they'd open up the large bar doors on a nice day. Come enjoy a flight, or a glass, you can't go wrong!

Questions were answered accurately, service was very friendly and lighthearted but still professional. Also big personal thing, our water glasses were rarely low let alone empty. Truly an enjoyable experience. The food was also very good, the highlights being the braised chicken thigh, calamari, and fried potatoes. All were well executed, fresh and flavor packed with my wife and my favorite being the chicken, it was truly a special dish. The meat paella was not really our thing, the rice was good, but the top was a little too well done for our liking, and there was a little too much wood smokey flavor for us personally throughout. We were okay with it because the portions throughout the other dishes were very generous and we were quite satisfied already, barely having enough room to have a few bites of the churros which were amazing. They were super fresh, crispy, and covered in cinnamon sugar. The chocolate sauce served with them is very rich and dark to contrast the crispy sweetness. Excited to come by and try some more of the tapas options Definitely reccomend as a different, fun, tasty night out, especially if you don't want to decide on just one thing.

The space was a nice open hang and there's snacks and games, and there is staff there, but the experience made me realize I prefer a guided human tour for some things, wine tasting being one of them. Prices also snuck up on us a bit, it's easy to lose count of how many you've had with the card reader. I was also a bit bummed to find that if you liked a wine you cannot purchase a bottle on site. I say alcohol because it wasn't all wine but ... since it's a bit of a surprise in terms of what actually appears I'll just leave it at that. However, as to the food ... I'll give a taste, a flavor, a wisp of a whisper of the full culinary adventure. For complete details, see your local sous chef! Here's what we had. In the middle of my photo collage, a blood sausage slider with fennel/jalapeño sauce on toasted brioche bun. Then clockwise from top left - cornbread with maple glaze in a Barbie sized personal cast iron skillet; beet salad with goat cheese half spheres; a dessert tray of black apple cake with hay ice cream (yes, seriously), chamomile pot de creme and a duck fat beignet; an assortment of ice creams - fenugreek, fennel/maitake mushroom/burnt hazelnut (all tasted fabulous and in each you could taste the listed flavors); entree of duck and wild mushroom tart; white bean soup and finally a pasta dish of ravioli with two fillings. Just a note on what it would take to make it yourself. See that hexagonal white blob on the bottom row, middle pic? That's a potato foam. Forgive me for not recalling the full procedure but the prep is roughly 7 hours long. First, the cut potatoes are cooked in a sous vide for 2 hours so that no moisture is added to them. Then a succession of ricing, smoking, drying, undrying, mashing, placing in a foam machine that looked like a whipped cream dispenser and boom - a tiny dollop of potato. It tasted great. But man - that's a lot of effort for a mouthful of potato. I don't think I'll be trying it at home. Over two hours of eating and chatting. I brought a couple of my restaurant-based cartoons as my personal thanks for the meal and was shocked that Justin, their sommelier, had done a cartoon of his own ahead of time for me! Just stick to wine, Justin - I don't need any MORE competition with my magazine editors ... With Dylan ably providing the primary chef duties and Amaya and Justin handling the booze, the meal was a smashing success. The food pairings were masterfully chosen and timing of the dishes meant we were always primed for the next one. Although the succession of what I'd call dessert dishes made me start to feel like a Hobbit enjoying dessert, second dessert and then post seconds. As Anton Ego said in Ratatouille (and they have a cute Reme rat under glass on a shelf) "I shall be returning, hungry for more."

I can browse a liquor store & pick out a bottle that exactly fits my preferences, my mood, & my budget. I can bring it home & uncork the wine, checking the cork for freshness. I can pull out my special glassware & pour myself a glass of wine & enjoy it on my own couch. So why go out to a wine bar, if not for the wine? For me, it's for the ambience & the experience. Both of those things at Providence Wine Bar were lacking. The lights were too bright (overhead & fluorescent) & the music was too loud (& just bad). The employees seemed both bored & nervous, with not much to do to occupy themselves. I was one of the only people in the bar, so I felt like I was under scrutiny - I'm certain this wasn't intentional but it was unfortunately how it came across. I brought a book but couldn't focus because of the lights & the music. I even caught myself with my fingers in my ears, trying to muffle the sounds of 2010s hyper pop. I have nothing against 2010s hyperpop, it's just that there's a time & place for everything, & maybe that isn't at a wine bar at 8 PM on a Wednesday. I just wanted to be done with my glass of wine so that I could leave. All of that being said, I wish them the best. It seems like they need a good manager's touch.
