We walked into a space that is comfortable and notably quiet for its size, which made it a good option for larger parties or anyone who wants to actually have a conversation without competing with the room. Live music downstairs adds a different dimension to evening visits, and the kitchen stays open until midnight, which makes it a reliable option when other spots have already closed. The nachos are the standout order and the dish most worth building your visit around. They came out loaded and well constructed without collapsing into the pile of soggy chips that ruins most nacho plates. The smash tacos are worth ordering across a few different fillings to get a sense of what the kitchen does well, and the birria tacos in particular have built a following for the depth of flavor in the braised meat and the accompanying consommé for dipping. We tried a few of the other taco options, and they landed on the milder side in terms of seasoning, which was a bit of a letdown compared to the birria. The portion size relative to price also felt a little small on some plates. The ceviche was decent but benefited from some additional flavor, so adjusting expectations on that particular order makes sense. Service was attentive and the pacing of the meal matched the relaxed atmosphere of the room. The staff knew the menu well and offered thoughtful recommendations without being pushy. For a Latin restaurant in Boston that delivers on atmosphere, late hours, and a few standout dishes like the nachos and birria tacos, Lockheart is a solid option worth keeping in mind for a group dinner or a late night meal.

We started with the lobster guacamole, it was ok a little mushier and bland for my liking. My husband had the quesadilla and I had two street tacos, they were delicious! I find it quite odd that Punch's is on Yelp. But I'm not concerned because there is no way anyone…read morecould locate it without asking the police or some random girl on campus wherein you would immediately be labeled a creepster and probably flagged for removal. So please, unless you're invited, don't go bumbling around campus searching for the 'sexy and sleek' Wellesley pub, there's no neon sign and no singles night. In case you don't know if I'm talking to you I made this handy list. If don't fit into one of these categories, you probably shouldn't be at Punch's Alley on any given night. A) A Wellesley student. B) A Wellesley alum less than 35yr old, single, and a les. C) A college student from MIT/Harvard/BU/Brandeis/BC/Berklee etc who came to campus for a reason other than the pub and then found himself/herself there by happenstance. D) A boyfriend/girlfriend/friend of a Wellesley student, with an invite to meet them at the pub. E) A musician with a gig at Punch's Alley. F) A guest lecturer or attendee at a lecture/movie/panel discussion that took place on campus and you're there only before 9pm. G) A campus employee who just wants a quick drink before heading home. That should pretty much sum it up. I'm not an anti-man or anti-visitors, but for serious - Punch's is not the spot to be unless you're wearing sweats and fresh off a 12 hour caffeine filled library sesh. I'm only a couple years out and there is no way I'd go there. I wish I didn't have to assign stars to it - it's more like 5 stars if you fit into the list above and 0 if you don't.

Server was nice but you could tell they were understaffed that night and sat too many tables at once. Once we sat done down and given water it took a while before our server appeared. The pacing was off and there were long periods between our order and apps, entree, and dessert. - bread service: kind of expensive ($13) for 5 pieces of bread and a dollop of each dipping sauce. Try just bread and butter for $6 - cornbread: delicious but small portion for $14. Also not a fan of the cutting board presentation - kids Mac and cheese: very cheesy ($12) - tiger shrimp risotto: ($34) good flavor but risotto was underdone - fried chicken: ($30) so crispy and cooked perfectly but had an odd spice in there like cinnamon? The star was the fried green tomatoes and the buttermilk ranch! Perfectly fried and crunchy while the tomatoes stayed firm and a very tasty ranch dressing! - dessert: warm cow sugar cookies were nice and warm sitting in butterscotch pudding, very cute! - the toffee in the butterscotch pudding ($11) was super crunchy, wish there were more cubes mixed in - warm chocolate brownie ($15) was missing the creme anglaise? Or the splatter of it was very small? I liked the open kitchen, high ceilings and farm2table concept but be prepared to spend $$$. Some street parking available and metered lot across the street.
