Blue on Highland is a great spot all around. The ambiance is awesome, perfect for a relaxed lunch or a nice night out, and the menu has something for everyone. I had the Greek salad with steak tips for lunch and it was fantastic. Fresh, flavorful, and the steak was cooked perfectly. For dessert, we tried the mini donuts and they were absolutely insane. Easily one of the best desserts I've had in a while. Great food, great vibe, and a place I'll definitely be coming back to read more

Went back to @blueonhighland for dinner last night. Thought I'd stick with the Mandarin Chicken Salad I loved a few weeks ago... but the South Shore pizzas kept calling. One look at the Spicy Clam pie and it was game over. Chopped Ipswich clams, crushed red pepper, white clam sauce, whole-milk mozzarella, parsley -- cooked perfectly and loaded with flavor. Stopped in for dinner. I had heard about the chicken parm on the Show Wicked bites The chicken parm was real deal chicken cutlet with excellent breading crust or crunch. The red sauce had a sweet taste and excellent, was the owners mother's recipe to add a butcher for a sweeter taste... wow... excellent. The pasta is from Deanos fresh pasta off Boston with white oatmeal cheese sauce. Outstanding. The melted cheese on cutlet was perfect . I really enjoyed this dish. I really wanted hot roll or two with butter or a garlic bread piece. Top notch beers selection. We had a business lunch with clients so I wasn't able to take food pics, but it was good, very good! We got there 11:45 and were first to be seated. Within 30 minutes the restaurant was full! The place is both cool and d cute! Big beer me u abd lots to choose for lunch. I had the excellent chicken mandarin salad. Lots of greens, teriyaki chicken, oranges, sugared pecans, cabbage abd more! Beautiful and filling salad. Everyone else had burgers and we all enjoyed. Service was professional and prompt. I inadvertently left my work folio at our table but was over an hour away when I realized it. I have eaten here and done takeout and the food is really good. They have a large menu with a ton of options-salads, burgers, pizza, wings, etc. I really like the meatball appetizer. Comes with three huge meatballs in a really good red sauce and ricotta cheese on top. I also think their salads are good. Definitely a popular spot in the needham area. Needham has a lot of pub and grub joints. These are indy places that are better than Chili's. (Although these days, even a charity kitchen is better than Chili's.) I was here for lunch with an agenda after lunch. So no drinking for me. But I did get to see what the kitchen was like. I ordered the Highlander which is an everything-stacked-on-top-of-your-burger burger. These are enormously popular. I will admit I sprang for it too. The execution on the burger was perfectly lovely. I am still not convinced that Jenga burgers are that great an idea. The Highlander has BBQ beef in copious quantity dumped on your burger, then French Fried Onions on that then a demiglace on top of that. Cheese on top of that. Fries on the side. The ingredients are lovely. The BBQ beef commands respect ... and this is a Texas-based Yelp Eliter saying that. No it was not Texas BBQ but as a braised beef in barbecue sauce it was just fine. What was the issue? a) Jenga burgers tend to fall apart. This is especially the case for Jenga burgers with sauces. This one had demiglace. All the ingredients were fine and everything tasted good. But ultimately it was a fork and knife situation. Not as much of a fork and knife situation as open faced beef with beef gravy on white bread. That was a New England staple of my youth - typically served to school children and campers. It was the quintessence of a messy sandwich. The Highlander started as a civilized sandwich and then began to fall apart. Sort of like a charming companion at the bar who can't hold his or her liquor. Suave and engaging before the first drink. But after three drinks your bar mate is losing it all in front of you. The whole encounter is much less fun. b) All that food is on top of your burger in order to build the tab. Blue on Highland can't charge as much for a simple burger as they can for an elaborate construction. If the burger and bun are big enough, and there are fries on the side, you don't need the extra 1/4 lb of food and 925 calories. I am a big eater - but I was unpleasantly full after half my burger and half my fries ... And the collapsed burger ruins were still staring up at me from the plate and saying "Eat Me Eat Me Eat Me". Sometimes simple is to be preferred. ************* They have other dishes at Blue on Highland ... and I suspect those other dishes are really good. The salad offerings look pretty outstanding. And they have some very good looking plates and appetizers. And to be repetitively redundant - saying what I already said - This IS a bar. Under many circumstances, drinking will be the order of the day. ************** One major point in Blue on Highland's favor. Location, location, location, location. They have a terrific Westward view overlooking the Park at Needham Heights. The window seats are fine ... So fine they are often reserved. Surprisingly they have a waiting area you can eat at that has wrap around views facing North. That is not quite a spectacular view but it is nice enough. And for those of you who live in Needham, and don't need to see the same old view you see everyday, The bar does have TV and they run good sports. *************** Overall, this is a good place. Just keep your eyes smaller than your stomach. If you insist on going for messy concoctions, Napkins and bibs both exist. read more

Blue on Highland offers a lovely setting with beautiful decor. I really enjoyed the tuna tartare--fresh and flavorful. I also tried the salad and the fig prosciutto pizza, both of which were excellent. The spicy margarita was served in a nice glass, adding a nice touch to the experience. Our server was fantastic--attentive, sweet, and providing excellent customer service. She was a young lady with long hair, and I wish I had her name to compliment her directly. Went to this place with three other friends and we had a good time. We got an appetizer of chicken wings (plain) with all the sauce choices to try and we each voted on which sauce we liked best. We each had a main meal to come as well but only after we were done with the appetizer (which we shared). Our server did a nice job making sure we had everything we needed from the drinks to clearing the empty dishes in a timely way. The atmosphere was cozy and our seats were in a comfortable space. The lighting was enough to see the menus with and soft enough to be enjoyable. There is a notice on how long you can sit at the table since it is a choice place to enjoy a meal at. We went to Blue on Highland for dinner with 6 adults. We have a number of food allergies and sensitivities. Colleen T was an amazing server! She worked with us to get food that was gluten free. She also helped us find food without garlic and onion. The Rotisserie Chicken with asparagus and we substituted mashed sweet potatoes was excellent. The roasted beet and goat cheese salad was the best salad we have had while visiting the Boston area. Others in our group had Shrimp Scampi, Turkey Burger and fries, Impossible Burger and fries, and a pizza. We will definitely come back! It is best to make a reservation on their website. read more

A couple of friends come to Needham from as far as Milton and Arlington and even Groton to have lunch with me here. As much as I want to believe that I'm the reason, they have a chance to pick their own. However, they pick Blue for lunch. It's because Blue has arguably the best burgers. This is one of the few places that doesn't need an explanation of what's the difference between medium and rare. Other food is also great. They use one of the best ingredients available in Boston area. I also like their choice of drinks from some creative cocktails to local beers. So while food here is always at least 4 stars, I never had service that was less than 5. Everyone from the bar to the wait staff is always a pleasure to interact with. The place can get a bit too loud because it's wide open. When I want more privacy I get a booth. Those are also a bit quieter. However, it seems to be normal because it is like a festive gathering of friends rather than people trying to have a conversation over unreasonably loud music like in some other place. It's one of my favorite places for lunch, but I would recommend it for dinner as well, or, for a drink at the bar ... if you're lucky enough to get a spot. Needham has one of the best restaurant scenes in metro west, with some deserving Michelin stars. While Blue may not be number 1 for food it's definitely number 1 for overall excellence read more

Stopped by for brunch one day. The place was hopping, luckily we had reservations. I started with the Sparkling Peach (Peach vodka, simple syrup blood orange puree, lemon, prosecco) and my wife just stuck with water. She ordered the fish tacos and I the brunch bowl after reading other reviews about it. It certainly did not disappoint. On Patriots Day my grandchildren had no school and my son had the day off, so our visit included a fun family lunch at Blue On Highland. The kids had a blast with the children's activity books and crayons Blue provided. Lots of word searches, unscramble the letters, find the words, connect the dots, and similar brain busters for the little ones. They were fully engaged trying to problem solve the riddles and puzzles. Our server Jaimee was a real delight and was super personable, helpful and professional. Blue has quite a few Children's Meals, and our two little guys went for a cheese pizza (pretty darned big!) and a grilled cheese with fries for $12 each. Chocolate milks were included with the price My lunch was a Thai Steak Salad ($27) that was delicious. It had five big tender steak tips served with romaine, Udon noodles, avocado, mandarin oranges, shredded cabbage, toasted peanuts, shredded carrots, and a spicy Thai-peanut dressing. It was worth every penny, and in fact the portion was so big I took home half of it for dinner. Our table's other orders included a salmon wrap with sweet potato fries ($16) and a Chicken Caprese sandwich (also $16). The five lunches and two diet coked ran $96 for three adults and two children. Wait time was minimal as a walk in at 630 on a friday night. It was a 45-60 min wait in main dining, however bar is open seating. I grabbed a high top in the foyer mainly use for waiting with drinks but I ordered from the bar, full service immediately. Cool crisp atmosphere, every table packed from 6-8pm. Staff was attentive and very kind. My parm truffle fries were divine with an array of sauces. The side ceaser was fantastic, crisp, flavorful the croutons. Dinner was salmon with risotto. What a find! This is close to our doctor's office and a Trader Joe's, so we noticed it. Saw it's often busy. Checked it out today. Wonderful! In these times, very upscale for the price. Delicious well made food. Nice atmosphere and lovely staff. Shared a pepperoni pizza, arugula salad, and homemade donut bites for dessert. The pizza was perfect - crust, sauce, toppings - all quality. Nice dressing on the fresh arugula salad. Those Nutella donut bites - yummy. I came here with my coworkers for a happy hour. We had a relatively large party and hostesses were very nice, although a little overwhelmed. I ordered the Royal Blue drink and it was okay and arrive significantly later than the others who had ordered. The wings and pizza were nothing to write home about, although it wasn't bad. They did have vegetarian options which was a plus. I think perhaps it would be better if I returned when it wasn't so full. Parking was difficult to find at the time, which was surprising. Walked in and reservation was incorrect. I told the host 6 people and not 4. They still sat me at a 4 tip. Went up and asked for a two top to be added. Nothing. Server came over and I asked for the two top to be added. She said they can't. I said you guys made the mistake so can you pls fix it. She came back and said my friend who made the reservation made it for 4 which was a lie. I said they made the mistake as she did not confirm for 4 (when she got there she said she made it for 6). Finally a manager came over and it took explaining for the 4th time to finally get it right and he added a two top. So started on a very bad note.
