Not sure I would go back. The girls working behind the bar were nice enough but not great at customer service. Other customers needed drinks and they forgot. They never really checked on you. The food was ok. I got a pork chop dinner with vegetables and Mac n cheese. I ordered a Manhattan and what I got just tasted like watered down whiskey. We first moved we tried this place and it was meh, the it is still kind of meh, the inside is a lot better. We urged to give it a 2nd shot and try the pizza and that they had a patio now. The patio is in a parking lot it was fenced off but still. Not really a patio. So don't do that if you want a decent outdoor experience. The pizza was fine. Wasn't bad by any means, but wouldn't call it great either. So think this place still is fine. Nothing terrible but nothing that stands out either. So fine enough. We went to Shopper's last night for trivia and, while it was tough timing as they had a party that was supposed to end at 7 but went long in the same space that trivia was set to start at 8, they handled it as well as they could. The management staff and servers tried to help scope out tables for incoming trivia players as party goers wrapped up and that was super appreciated. The Salt and Pepper Wings here are by far our favorite wings in all of Waltham - and we've tried nearly all. Last night, though, they were quite dry so just perhaps overcooked slightly. We've had them twice before and they were incredible so we'll definitely give them another shot. Everyone has an off night, right?! Our salads were delightful. They were perfect for a homey tavern which is what Shopper's feels like. Many places like this resolve to offer simply a house and a ceasar salad to satisfy the rabbit-like eaters such as myself and call it a day but Shopper's clearly tried and cared. They have several salad options that are creative and look great and offer several proteins to top them off. My Greek with Chicken Salad was, again, delightful. The dressing is a bit less greeky than most greek dressings I've had but to each their own. My boyfriend's Steak and Bleu Salad was also great and the steak was a perfect medium. Medium done Shopper's! (not 'well done', get it?) The Hummus Plate has me torn. I love, love, love that it isn't just chips or bread and has cukes, broccoli, and carrots to dip as well; most restaurants just throw a pile of carbs at you. Perhaps it's the plastic tub of hummus versus glass or the size of the platter being so large it makes it look sparse but it leaves some to be desired. I would have loved for this to just be a tad more presentable because that translates in our brains to tasty! I will absolutely get it again because it's the perfect thing to snack on while playing trivia that doesn't go straight to the hips. We got a Jalapeno Martini to share and, while not quite spicy enough for me personally (and I'm a pansy when it comes to heat), it was quite possibly the tastiest I've ever had. I loved that it seemed muddled of sorts because there was almost pulp in it which added depth to this drink. This is a great drink! I absolutely recommend the Salt and Pepper Bone-in (are boneless even wings, c'mon bro) wings, the Jalapeno Martini, and the Pistachio Martini! I'm a huge pistachio martini fan and so few restaurants have one. read more

We've been looking for a great local bar for a while and love Shopper's. Their menu is great, they have cheap drafts and pitchers, tons of TVs, and the pizza is surprisingly good. Sometimes it can be really loud - we were there last night (Saturday) and sat in a booth and had to yell at each other across the table to have a conversation, which was annoying. Typical sports bar, standard menu, loud. What differentiates this place is the totally clueless bartender. Stopped by yesterday with a party of 4, 2 Tito's and soda...no big deal, until one member of the party asked for an espresso martini. The bartender made he repeat it 3 times and acted like he was being spoken to in a foreign language. Obviously he was unfamiliar with how to prepare a simple cocktail, but couldn't be bothered looking it up. What was served amounted to watered down Baileys. Sorry guys, if you can't handle a simple cocktail, time to take out business elsewhere. read more

This place churns out absurdly good food. I've ordered several items on their menu over a several year period - pizzas among the best - and they have been consistently good (really good). Whoever is cooking here knows what they're doing. Their food is on point. At first pass, it's a boring bar. Upon tasting the food, it becomes something new. So glad to have this restaurant nearby. So, this is my second review and am so glad to say that Shoppers has started delivery again. My husband and I are over 65, so we have not been to a restaurant since march and are using places only with delivery...we had several great experiences with shoppers and were sad when they stopped delivering. Called today and they stared this service again and they did not disappoint. 1st time here visited many spots on Moody and many are great in their own way. Shopper's is somewhat a legendary place on Moody. We came here for their wings and randomly my BF ordered fish sandwich. Quality of wings were horrible....I think they quickly boiled or fried & threw some sauce on it. I barely can eat 3wings without feeling I needed to vomit!! Every wait staff attended to us bc it was that empty. The girls noticed the quality of the food but couldn't even bother to say, "Hey you didnt eat do you want something else"? I finally had a full meal here... I'm so happy that this place is right around the corner from my apartment. $8 gets you better-than-bar-quality food, and you can get pretty sauced on pitchers. The crowd is very mixed and fun to be around. The house fries look like buffalo chips, but they're a delicious surprise. The onion rings are homemade. Went in January 2022. Servers don't wear masks and the one we had was a heavy breather and close talker. Also placing my pint glass down with his fingers around the top. Really? Come on; this was never ok but especially not now during a pandemic. I didn't used to like this place because the service was terrible. You couldn't get a drink unless you were a regular. Then COVID happened and they closed. When they reopened with the tables out front and everything was so different! Staff were happy to check on us and we had a great time! That lasted a couple of weeks. My husband went there this afternoon and sat a table in the front where shade is mind you. He sits there for 15 minutes and sees the girl behind the bar looking at him but she never comes out. After all that time he CALLS the bar and she answers. He asks why she hasn't come out even though she KNOWS he is there and she hung up and sent out a server who explained the entire front is someone else's station and they weren't there yet so he had to sit in back with very little shade. No signs on the tables and hardly anyone there in total. Back to their old ways again. Sad, for a minute there we were really enjoying it. And just for any ownership who might be reading we know a lot of people in Waltham and they all complain of the same thing. Ahhhh, Shoppers Cafe, it's what you find if you are looking for a bar with the Trifecta. Oh, what's the trifecta you ask? Just a bar with the holy Grail of keno, mega touch, and Buck Hunter. Honestly I expect any bar with used three things to be the best thing I've ever seen in my life. Shoppers café however is a solid three out of five, nothing bad, nothing exceptional. Beer menu is pretty solid, and location is just slightly on the Newton side of moody street, but that means parking is sometimes easier to find. The food menu has a lot of decent and cheap offerings. I tried the buffalo wings, steak fries and a chicken Parma sandwich. All of it was decent and they brought me the wrong sauce for my chicken. But it wasn't special. I was also happy to see they had rolling rock and high life bottles! However 3.70 for RR is too much. Honestly if you're going to have the beauty of a highlife or a rolling rock bottle have it a no more then 3 dollars otherwise I'll just drink bud light. I think beer here is just overpriced as a cost $16 for a Coors light pitcher. Which you can get a $10 Bud Light picture at playmakers down the road. The interior is dark but there is a lot of room, as I mentioned keno and games to Play and solid service. You could Certainly DoMuch worse. read more

worst service ever......I grew up on Waltham and every Thursday night a bunch of us would go to shoppers and then move to Francos. I havent been here in a couple years and boy have things changed. The waitress was the rudest. We asked for sweetener for our ice tea and she literally put three packets of sugar and walked away without saying a word. She never asked if everything was ok with our food and we didn't see her unless she was playing with her hair or folding napkins while sitting down. I went to Shoppers Cafe on Moody Street for lunch yesterday with my daughter. This was the day that restaurants were offering inside seating. We both had the fried pickles and fish filet sandwiches. I had ordered a pasta salad side and was given the potato salad side. The order was quickly changed. The server apologized and said to try both. Both the pasta salad and potato salad were delicious. After a long day on the beach, and bar hopping on Moody St, we came here. I loved this place. A great bartender, great drinks, and even though I was too full from previous spots to eat, I loved the way the food and my friends loved it and look forward to coming here again next time on an empty stomach. A friend recommended that I try Shoppers Cafe because I said that I was looking for good wigs and I didn't feel like driving over to Buffs Pub. When I got there, I felt like the outsider in a locals bar. I ordered a half order of wings (half salt&pepper, half buffalo). The bartender, who knew that I had never been there before, chose not to tell me that appetizers were two for one during happy hour. This would've been a useful piece of intermission, since I was deciding between a 4 1/2 order. I could've got the full order for the same price as the half order. With the wigs came, they were very sly be at fatty. It seemed like the oil was not warm enough or the fry later was overfilled.after eating about half of the order, I had had enough of the greasy and fatty wings. If I had just had bad food, I wanted to take the time to write this review, however. What really got to be, was what happened next. One of the townies at the bar midget they do story about Ebola and how we need to be afraid of it. Another patron, who I was later told was the owner, yelled "No..what we really need to be afraid of is a black democrat that became President!" He continued to shout; "This is a white bar!!!" All of the townies at the bar started cheating and hollering! A patron told me how the owners make it uncomfortable for black patrons when they come to the bar. I was absolutely outraged but I was clearly the minority and my dissenting opinions would not be taken kindly, so I quietly ate the bad food. I am kicking myself, now, that I didn't stand up for what I really felt. Hopefully this post will do some justice, though. 2 stars is more then fair for this institution. why? 1. their food tastes so horrendous, you kind of wonder if they are serving food to hide behind "restaurant" for some sort of tax shelter 2. the clientele is 99% townie, so watch out around 5pm when they are all congregating outside smoking and parking their vehicles where ever they want, hey thanks dumb ass, i wanted to serve over that double yellow in order to make it down moody street today! 3. the prices for domestic beer is still quite high, if you are serving the town (see point 2) why not lower the price to increase the volume?
