My friends invited me to this nice place. I did like their chicken wings; they were really good. I ordered the braised lamb shank; I don't think it was that good. I think it needed more seasoning, the lamb had that strong taste of meat and greasy too. My friend had the miso-glazed salmon, which did not look good; the chicken and waffles was a surprise because we thought it was going to be chicken strips, but it was a whole piece with bone in, so it was weird but not bad; and the prime steak tips were good. Meal/Time: Dinner/Tuesday 1830/ Party of 3 Seated: 1835 Ordered: 1845 First ordered item arrived: 1903 Decor/Atmosphere: casual dining with a touch of class; Tuesday night is loud since it's trivia night. Service/ Front of the House: we arrived, but it took 2 or 3 minutes to get everything sorted out to find a table for us Service/Serving Staff: Bridget was friendly and helpful. She did check back, but did not check on drinks and refills for the iced tea. Food: Lets start with the best to the not so best. The Braised Short Rib Tacos ($17.00 + $10 for additional taco). Soft taco wrapped around a crunchy taco. Tender and juicy short ribs. Sweet and savory... can get a bit messy...but worth the napkins. Charred Broccoli with Chimichurri ($10) - slightly smokey with some crispy bits. The chimichurri adds layers of flavor. Mussels Fra-Diavolo ($16). Steamed mussels in a tomato based white wine sauce. Use the garlic bread to get the sauce. I would to have a side of bread just for the sauce. Prime Steak Tips ($29). This was the biggest loser of the night. You get about 4 pieces of beef, 3 potato croquettes and some broccoli with Chimichurri. We ordered the steak tips medium. Of the 4 tips, 1 was medium rare, 2 were well and only 1 was medium. Love the sides...the potato croquettes were perfect... crunchy crust with a creamy center. Value: Pretty good value as tapas...we ordered all starters except for the steak tips. Restroom: Men's Room is really narrow. There is one stall, one urinal and 1 sink with 2 soap dispensers. Well stocked and clean. Was a bit smaller than the usual Conrads I've gone to several both privately and with my motorcycle group and they usually like right on top of things they usually much bigger. But that's OK size isn't what matters. We were there for an after gathering for a funeral from one of my good friends The room that they set aside for us the tables were quite tight together, and there was many people the bartender was right on top of things he made drinks quickly. Everything was perfect and that respect the part that bothered me was the food so the salad was excellent. It was at the right temperature and stuff was supposed to be but the other selections of food were not hot some were warm and somewhere totally cold. I was probably like the fifth person in line to get a plate and so it's at my point, it should still been hot. The kitchen was not very far no more than a few feet from where they were set up on the servers so I didn't understand why there was such a difference in the temperature. We had a pasta dish it wasn't labeled so I don't really know what it was. I didn't have much but it was like I said cold then we had a chicken dish grilled chicken was not hot. The steak tips were perfect. The green beans were a little crunchy, but that's probably the way that supposed to be served. I'm not sure. I was kind of disappointed as I said I go to many Conrads and have never ever had an issue whether it be a private auction that was being held there or 20 of us for dinner. Everything comes out perfect comes out on time it's all scalding hot never an issue. I'm not sure because this one hasn't been open that long. If maybe it was still working out the kinks or if maybe I don't know I'm not. I can't even say what the reasoning was. I'm just just kind of disappointed in the food but everything else was wonderful. I did order a takeout desserts and they were absolutely fantastic. The peanut butter bomb as well as the white cherry chocolate bread pudding. Both was superb. Could not have asked for anything better. Ordered a tomato and mozzarella pizza and received a pizza. I was expecting actual mozzarella and tomato slices on the pizza and would have just ordered a cheese pizza if I wanted that? I felt like this was very misleading and I am very upset with this. read more

This is usually one of stalwart "always excellent" places, but not so this time. perhaps a case of an empty restaurant faring worse than a full one? Four people at the bar, we were one of two tables. The charred broccoli (which we have had before) was limp, watery..did have blackened ends but no way had spent recent time under a broiler. It was also tepid..couldn't even call it warm. It was served with a large ladle "glop" of undifferentiated green slop on top..also tepid. We really should have sent the mess back, but hadn't had lunch and thus this our early dinner. Really no flavor, hard to cut as well..not crisp as it usually is. My wife's GF pizza was great..amazing how well the cauliflower crust is done here. I had the cheese ravioli bolognese special: cheese ravioli were hot, well-made, but the bolognese sauce was again cool, tepid...bowl was not even warmed. The server put the dishes down and said she'd be back to check in...did not return until one tablespoon left of my ravioli and we hadn't seen her the entire time we were eating. She was not waiting on the other table so not clear where she had been. The check had the pre-printed tip amounts which is not uncommon today but starting at 23% and going to 30%?? Who tips at 30%?? then a note underneath the tip is computed on the tax being INCLUDED? Now really..tipping on top of tax?? Certainly did not do that.....all in all won't be hurrying back. read more

Last month, I went out with friends to Cook, after talking repeatedly about their hidden menu item, the Triple Burger. Naturally, I ordered that and that only. You can order any of the burgers listed and the total at the time was $45 for it. 1. Basic Burger - very onion heavy, which made it just a bit difficult to taste the rest of the dish because it lingered for awhile. Otherwise, as stated in the name, it's your basic burger. 2. Rodeo Burger - I love bacon and was very happy how much of it there was. There's also light bbq sauce on it and above the onion rings. My suggestion is to have the thinner onion ringers and maybe caramelize it. (totally not a fan of caramelized onions or anything! :D) 3. I wasn't able to finish my 3rd burger in the restaurant due to movie plans shortly after dinner. But I will say that whatever was going on with the previous 2 burgers, the Chicken Sandwich blew it away! If I had to come back and get only one, it'd be the chicken sandwich...unless I can get 3 of em at once?? read more

Cook's is a Modern American suburban restaurant that offers a variety of items culled from different cuisines. In addition to staples like pizzas, burgers, and salads, you can enjoy falafel or pita and dip. You can also try tacos, a shrimp and grains bowl, or a rigatoni bolognese. On the day of our visit, short rib tacos were also available. When I previewed the menu before leaving, I planned to have something light, like the scallops. However, it wasn't available so I went with the NFC (Needham Fried Chicken), recommended and also ordered by my brother. It included crispy and tender chicken thighs, creamy mashed potatoes, refreshing cole slaw, and a flaky biscuit, the latter topped with melted butter. Everything on the plate was pure indulgence. My nephew had the falafel plate with a light salad and some puffy pita. We all enjoyed the Truffle Fries appetizer. The large cone of fries was crispy, dusted with Parmesan, and served with a rosemary aioli. The restaurant itself has high tops near the bar, though that area was empty when we were there, and a main dining room. Sat in the bar area. The bartender was our waiter and he was awesome. The restaurant is very nice. The food was all excellent. The side salad was a good side and fresh. We had a FANTASTIC dinner at Cook Needham this weekend. This place is super unrated-- definitely one of my new favorites in the Heights. The restaurant has a nice modern feel, and a well developed menu. Everything was cooked beautifully, and was so delicious. I got a crispy chicken sandwich with their famous truffle fries, and I was in paradise. The chicken was so flavorful and juicy, the vegetable toppings complemented it so well, and I never wanted the truffle sauce to end. 10/10 meal. My mom got the falafel dish, and it was delicious. Fresh pita, flavorful falafel balls, and a fresh salad. My mom's boyfriend wanted an omelette, and it was technically on the brunch menu, but they were able to cook one up for him for dinner. The eggs were so fluffy and the cheese complemented the omelette fantastically. Service is just as great as the food! We will be back! read more

Stopped by for lunch with a friend. I made a reservation for Saturday afternoon but it wasn't that packed and we could have just walked in if needed. We both got the black bean burger with sweet potato fries. The burger was very flavorful and the lettuce and onion on it were very fresh. The sweet potato fries were super crispy and well seasoned which I feel like is typically harder with sweet potatoes so I was pleased! read more

Great dinner at Cook. I got the braised short rib with mashed potato and asparagus special and my friend got the burger with Parmesan truffle fries. Both meals were excellent. The cocktails were good, and the wine by the glass options were plentiful. Although they were sadly out of the crème brûlée dessert special, I am happy i chose to get the pumpkin cheesecake because it was not only delicious, but was large enough to ensure leftovers for tomorrow! The restaurant was busy consistently all evening, but we never once felt rushed by our server. Great bar space for those who choose to grab a drink or grab a bite at the bar. Will definitely come back to Cook for more delicious food and drink! read more

I haven't been to Cook in years even though it's in my neighborhood. Glad I finally went back - I had an absolutely delicious chicken kebab. The chicken was moist, the salad was fresh, and the tzaziki and mini pitas were delicious. The restaurant was busy so our meals took quite awhile but our waitress was lovely. The only negative is that since it was busy it was very loud, and at times it was hard to have a conversation with my friend. read more

I stopped by here this past Tuesday night as part of a large group from work. By large group I mean somewhere in the 20-30 people range which I know throws off all of the service and so I won't mention anything about that. Anyways, the inside of this restaurant is separated into two distinct areas, a dining room and a bar area. Our group was sat in the dining room which consisted of a number of different tables and chairs. However, since I was stuck looking into the bar area all night, I didn't really notice much else about the dining room. The bar area here looked pretty nice with a large bar and then some high top seating spread out around it. Behind the bar they had a brick oven where they were cooking the pizzas and then a couple of TVs on top of what looked like a cool backsplash. For dinner on this evening our table decided to start with some appetizers and so I was able to try the charred broccoli, chickpea fries, truffle fries and calamari. All of it was pretty good and my favorite was probably the broccoli due to the chimichurri but I also really enjoyed the chickpea fries which were nice and fat steak fries and really tasted liked chickpeas. Whenever it came time for dinner, the person who sat next to me was a vegan and after talking to the waitress, she confirmed what he could and couldn't eat from the menu and even let him know that in one of the purées had butter in it. So props to the staff and chef for being aware of food allergies/dietary restrictions and then cooking for them. For my entree I ended up going with the falafel plate which the menu described as spinach falafel, tzatziki, walnut muhumarra, cucumber, olives, arugula and mini pitas. It came to the table playfully played with everything quite separated from one another with the mini pitas stacked together on one side, followed by the falafels, then the arugula and cucumber together and finally the sauces. The falafels here ended up tasting good as they were spiced and cooked nicely. I tried and failed to stuff one in a mini pita and ended up eating most of the items separately. Thankfully both the tzatziki and the muhumarra were super tasty and I especially liked dunking both the pitas and the falafel into the muhumarra and it's peppery goodness. The most bland thing on the plates ended up being the arugula and cucumbers which lacked a little taste but I appreciated them being there not only because they are healthy but also because they added a pop of color to the plate. Within a short time of getting my meal I had joined the clean plate club and was satisfied with the amount of food I had eaten. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. I really enjoyed all of the food that we had and I would be interested in trying some of their brick oven baked flatbreads. read more
