Coach Grill is a fun place for a casual or nice night out. Ambiance/Atmosphere: busy, social, and LOUD! Not for intimate dinners. The place is busy and happening. Dark wood, old school vibe. Waiters in classic attire. Nice closed off entry way to avoid massive drafts and precipitation if the weather is bad. Somewhat tight seating between tables. Website recommends dressy casual or business casual, discourages t-shirts, but quite a few folks not following the dress codes. Not so stuffy they'd make you wear a sports coat they have on hand. Service: Fair - not good or great though not awful. Attentive server we had, knowledgable, relatable. Often long periods between seeing her during a prime time dinner reservation. Not a lot of assistants coming by, mostly people delivering food or fill water, didn't have much capacity or scope to help otherwise except to see if they could find our server. Food: Some big hits and some very decent misses. French onion soup a hit. Standard solid execution. Oysters were shucked okay. A little bit more broken shell than I'd like at that price, but more importantly often dry and without the brine. A couple were annihilated in the shucking. Caesar salad was dry without any dressing in sight, didn't have much flavor except for the anchovies which were way too potent without dressing. Crab crusted haddock was a big hit. Delicious. Filet was good. Beef Wellington very good. Perfect beef, very flaky pastry, sauce was excellent -- not over or under seasoned - and juicy mushroom caps. Salmon was fine. Creamed spinach we ordered they ran out of and we didn't get notified until right before entrees came out. Bummer. Mashed potatoes were sad -- tasted like they were powdered from a box. Very little butter, under-seasoned, watery. Didn't finish half of it. Drink: Decent wine list. Not as extensive as I was expecting given their awards. Prices were often pretty high. 6oz and 9oz pours for some inexpensive by the glass wines was shocking. Some good deals to be had in the Portugal/Italian sections. Price: High for the value, food, and service. Really wanted to give the place 4 stars but the constellation of missteps, disappointments, and price for the experience... just couldn't do it! read more

Valentines dinner! We went super early (4:30) to avoid the crowds, but many people had the same idea. Still we didn't have to wait long to be seated. The dining rooms are typical steakhouse: dark, warm and cozy. Tables were small with no room to place the large, heavy menus. Service was friendly and efficient. Food came quickly. We had shrimp cocktail (jumbo, just huge!) and a Caesar salad to start, followed by the beef Wellington and 20 oz ribeye. I went to Coach Grill for the first time last Friday night to meet a friend and had a wonderful experience. To our luck, there were two seats available at the bar. Soon as we sat down, the bartender welcomed us and took our drink order, the drinks were perfect. The bartender shared the specials with us; ultimately, I ordered the Crab Crusted Haddock and my friend ordered the filet mignon. Both dishes were delicious and did not disappoint. Beautiful bar area with dimmed lights, a classic steakhouse setting. I would recommend this place and will definitely be back. read more

Our Boys Night Out party of four has dined here before with somewhat mixed results. It's definitely an attractive restaurant, and for the most part the steak dishes we've ordered have been quite good. Tonight, we were looking forward to a good dinner and a couple of us were craving the Beef Wellington featured on their menu. Our table was ready promptly at 7pm, and we were seated at a corner booth. So far so good! Our excellent waitress arrived within a few minutes, took our drink orders and discussed the specials. Unfortunately, they were out of Beef Wellington. Well that was disappointing. For our first course we ordered: Chopped Salads - crispy bacon, blue cheese, tomato, radish, black olive, onion, dijon vinaigrette French Onion Soup Au Gratin The salads were nicely executed, tasty and not overdressed. The French Onion Soup also met with a positive review. For dinner we selected: Filet Mignon 10 oz with béarnaise sauce Boneless Ribeye 16 oz with horseradish cream Chargrilled New Zealand Lamb 16 oz, mint demi-glace Onion Rings Sautéed Mushrooms Creamed Spinach My Filet was cooked to order correctly as were the other two. My steak was good, though I've certainly had more tender Filet Mignon. I also tasted the ribeye, which was very good and nicely cooked. The diner who ordered the lamb complained that it was very dry. Our sides were excellent, everyone readily consumed those, though the Onion Rings disappeared the fastest. Our waitress brought us a complimentary slice of ice cream cake, which was superb. Dinner with drinks/wine cost $400. Overall, we thought this dining experience merited 4-stars, and we would be happy to return. read more

Coach grill was delicious. We started with the oysters Rockefeller (because January 10th is national oysters Rockefeller day!!). It was my first time having them, so not much to compare to but I thought they were excellent. For entrees, I tried the beef Wellington which had an amazing rich flavor but it was so filling I could only eat a third of it before boxing the rest up. My fiancé had the prime rib and he raved about. For sides, we tried mashed potatoes and the corn pudding(which we heard amazing things about). I loved the corn but my partner wasn't a fan because it has a sweetness. Our waiter was so attentive, and in general the place had such an old school steakhouse vibe. Had a dinner for six on a Sunday. Our server was very friendly, chatty (which I wasn't expecting) and helpful. We had a gluten allergy and a shellfish allergy at the table. Both were acknowledged and well attended. If you're ordering a steak they are very allergy friendly. This is not a scratch kitchen. I was told which dishes I could not eat. I was surprised their gluten free roll was a burger bun given the price points here. NYAJ could teach them a thing or two. The quality of the food was good but I'm not sure if it justified the cost. This place is a great restaurant that is very consistent on the food and service. We usually go for special occasions but it can be a place to go on the regular. Plenty of parking. The dirty martini and side car is amazing. We usually get an appetizer and they're very good and generous portions. Both my wife and I usually order steaks and some side dishes and dessert. The place in the winter with the fireplace going on is amazing and very pretty. The decorate for each of the holidays and do a great job. This may be part of the Tavistock Restaurant Group but is more than a chain type restaurant. This is a must visit place!! read more

The service was great, except I had to ask to have my water glass refilled. Most of the food was kind of average. The onion soup was a little better than average. The prime rib was extremely tender, but lacking in taste. Brussels Sprouts and Bacon Lardons were a bit disappointing in texture and taste. The biggest disappointments were the onion strings and the dessert. The onion strings were limp and soggy, and not very hot when they reached the table. For dessert, I ordered the Skillet Cookie. We used to come here at least once a month. We haven't been here for a few years because we moved. We came for a special occasion, which this restaurant has always been perfect for. The bread was warm and we were looking forward to an amazing meal The clam chowder was crunchy like the potatoes weren't cooked and broth was sour. We sent ours back and got the onion soup which was better. The clam casino was, a little blan. The beef Diane was ok. The beef Wellington was over cooked and chewy. We had to saw through it with a knife. I took two bites and left mine. My husband ate his "because he was hungry", but said he agreed it was not good The sides- green beans, corn pudding, mashed potatoes and creamed spinach were ok. Hoping the profiteroles for desert would be better, but the chocolate sauce was like Hershey's chocolate sauce I used to put in my kids milk- thin and light on flavor. I was thinking it would be a rich fudgy sauce, which the crunchy shells could have stood up to. I am not sure if this was just a bad night or things at the Coach have gone down hill. We are very disappointed because the ambiance and service is always excellent and has been the go to place for special occasions or when you just wanted a nice meal. Still a wonderful dining experience! We tend to save Coach Grill as a special occasion venue, so we don't dine here frequently. After a several month gap, returning here found the food and service to be on the same superb par as on our recent visits. Before reviewing the food, a special recognition/appreciation of our waiter, Dylan. Dylan was considerate and attentive without being overbearing or hovering. He provided a great experience that we find increasingly rare when dining out. Although it's billed as a steakhouse, the two seafood entrees we had, the grilled salmon and the grilled scallops/mushroom risotto were equally enjoyable as any of the Coach Grill's steaks we've had. The atmosphere is dark, leathery and relaxed as one would expect at a fine dining establishment. We enjoyed being able to hear each other talk without the music and mayhem found at the headliner steakhouses in Boston. I always love the coach grill, its the only really nice restaurant in the suburbs around Wayland, and every time the service is great, food is incredible, and its a nice, formal atmosphere for a romantic date night or celebration. They have a great bar and its almost exactly the same as Abe and Louies (incl the chocolate cake which is delicious) but less chaotic and calmer. I wouldnt recommend bringing kids, as theyre not the vibe, but I see some low reviews from when they were short staffed last winter and that problem is completely resolved. Came here with a party of 10 for my mom's 80th birthday yesterday. The service was exceptional and our server, Sam C., was friendly, attentive, and super helpful with recommendations. The food was well prepared and presented and delicious and the wine list had an extensive selection by the glass. For appetizers, I highly recommend the deviled eggs and the roasted bone marrow, and for entrees the Beef Wellington, the ribeye, and the steak frites were all standouts. They brought us a selection of three different desserts for my mom's birthday and they did not last long. Finally, a shoutout to the GM for coming over to introduce himself and to the hostess for her patience and help with the family photo shoot. Great job, Coach Grill! My friend and I met up at the Coach Grill in Wayland for dinner recently. The last time I dined here for dinner was 20 years ago before seeing a play just 1000 feet away. When we arrived, we were promptly in a comfortable booth with plexiglass dividers on each side. We tried to scan the QR code for paperless menus, but the waiter gave us paper menus upon request. We were given ice waters and fresh baked chewy breads and butter as we reviewed the menu. The raisin bread was my favorite. We perused the menu and the steak choices (a la carte) sounded great, but we both decided to order seafood choices instead which included accompaniments. I ordered the Pan Seared Sea Bass ($39) served with mashed potatoes, garlic shrimp, heirloom tomatoes and my friend ordered the Chargrilled Salmon Fillet ($34) substituting asparagus for mashed potatoes. Our entrees arrived in 20 minutes after ordering. Both entrees were very tasty with great flavors. Both of us finished up our dinners and we were both full and passed on the offer for dessert. The dinner check for 2 with tax before tip was $78.11. My friend used up some of her gift card on this dinner. Overall, the food here was excellent and the service was prompt and efficient. This place is pricey but it is worth it. We tried Calamari Milano, two steaks, and Chicken Piccata. And for dessert Vanilla Crème Brûlée. This was the most delicious dessert I ever tried.
