Recently visited Coach Grill, a traditional upscale steakhouse in Wayland, MA -- and overall, it delivered. We had a 5pm reservation, which was perfectly quiet and relaxed, though by 6:30-7pm the place was packed. If you're walking in, definitely aim for the early side. Service was excellent from start to finish -- the host, our server, and every staff member we encountered were attentive and professional. The steak and seafood selection is diverse and well-rounded, with plenty of side options to choose from. One honest note: the sides were a bit underwhelming on the flavor front compared to the rest of the meal, which is worth knowing going in. The appetizers, however, were a highlight -- and the french onion soup deserves a special shout-out. The drink program is solid with a strong wine list, and a nice bonus for non-drinkers: they offer a mocktail menu that was genuinely tasty, not an afterthought. Pricing is what you'd expect for an upscale steakhouse, so come prepared -- but if you're looking for a classic, polished steakhouse experience in the MetroWest area, Coach Grill is worth the visit. read more

Bad service. Over cooked steaks. Rude, misogynist management. Until last weekend, It had been a while since I visited the Coach Grill, and now I won't be back. When I go out to a high end steak house, I expect my steak to be cooked as ordered to perfection, and the service to be excellent. I am sad to say this was not the case. Our cocktails and appetizers were adequate, but unimaginative. For dinner, my friend and I each ordered Westholm Wagyu NY Strip ( priced at over $100 each) because we were told they were the best steak on the menu and we wanted to treat ourselves. I ordered mine rare, and my friend ordered his medium. Our other friend got the lamb, which was fine. When our steaks arrived mine was Medium to Medium-well, and his was clearly on the very dead side of well done. When we complained to our waiter he brought over the manager - and then things went really sideways. the manager started by giving us attitude but finally had to concede that my friend's steak was completely over cooked. When I said my steak was over cooked too, he became rude and angry, told me he was already taking my friend's steak off our bill and he wasn't gong to discuss it with me. When I insisted I had ordered my steak rare, he said " I was in the kitchen and watched your steak come out of the oven at a perfect 145º, so stop trying to push it Lady." I was so shocked by his response I didn't argue. I know a rare steak is cooked to 125º - 130º at most. It left me wondering if he treats all women like that. read more

Stay far away. Rude, incompetent and lousy service. Mediocre food prepared incorrectly. Money gouging because of location but clearly won't work in the long run. I have a deep hatred for them for the money and time I've wasted, only for them to lie to me. read more

Exquisite steak house. This is an upscale, elegant experience. Service was attentive for our large group. I enjoyed the FILET MIGNON SERVED AU POIVRE style. It was encrusted with black peppercorn and served with side of au Poivre sauce. Tender and perfectly cooked with nice crust with red center. We shared sides in the group. The CORN PUDDING and BRUSSEL SPROUTS were delicious and recommended. The wine by the glass menu was limited but had quality selections. I ordered a Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon which was great with the steak. It's not inexpensive but is an impressive dining experience. read more

Coach Grill is a fun place for a casual or nice night out. Ambiance/Atmosphere: busy, social, and LOUD! Not for intimate dinners. The place is busy and happening. Dark wood, old school vibe. Waiters in classic attire. Nice closed off entry way to avoid massive drafts and precipitation if the weather is bad. Somewhat tight seating between tables. Website recommends dressy casual or business casual, discourages t-shirts, but quite a few folks not following the dress codes. Not so stuffy they'd make you wear a sports coat they have on hand. Service: Fair - not good or great though not awful. Attentive server we had, knowledgable, relatable. Often long periods between seeing her during a prime time dinner reservation. Not a lot of assistants coming by, mostly people delivering food or fill water, didn't have much capacity or scope to help otherwise except to see if they could find our server. Food: Some big hits and some very decent misses. French onion soup a hit. Standard solid execution. Oysters were shucked okay. A little bit more broken shell than I'd like at that price, but more importantly often dry and without the brine. A couple were annihilated in the shucking. Caesar salad was dry without any dressing in sight, didn't have much flavor except for the anchovies which were way too potent without dressing. Crab crusted haddock was a big hit. Delicious. Filet was good. Beef Wellington very good. Perfect beef, very flaky pastry, sauce was excellent -- not over or under seasoned - and juicy mushroom caps. Salmon was fine. Creamed spinach we ordered they ran out of and we didn't get notified until right before entrees came out. Bummer. Mashed potatoes were sad -- tasted like they were powdered from a box. Very little butter, under-seasoned, watery. Didn't finish half of it. Drink: Decent wine list. Not as extensive as I was expecting given their awards. Prices were often pretty high. 6oz and 9oz pours for some inexpensive by the glass wines was shocking. Some good deals to be had in the Portugal/Italian sections. Price: High for the value, food, and service. Really wanted to give the place 4 stars but the constellation of missteps, disappointments, and price for the experience... just couldn't do it! read more

Service was fantastic, which I would rate a 5, but the food was not worth the money at all -like a 2. I ordered the filet, which was burnt on the outside (not crusted) and very dry on the inside, despite asking for medium. The inside was pink but flavorless. (Yes, I realize you're supposed to get it rare, but I've ordered medium at several other places, and it comes out juicy and tasty.) My husband ordered the pork chop, and it was dry as well. The calamari and fries were just okay. It was kind of a bummer since it's a landmark restaurant in the area, and so many people talk about it. We went for Boston Dine Out week. We opted to go early and were glad we did - the place was hopping busy by 7:00 on a Thursday night. We sat on the side with the bar and the noise level was vibrant. Our server was friendly and the busboy was excellent. We both had the beet salad and the steak. The steak was a decent size, flavorful and cooked perfectly. The steak came with green beans and fingerling potatoes which made for a filling meal! For dessert, one had the berries with Chantilly cream and the other had the key lime pie. Valentines dinner! We went super early (4:30) to avoid the crowds, but many people had the same idea. Still we didn't have to wait long to be seated. The dining rooms are typical steakhouse: dark, warm and cozy. Tables were small with no room to place the large, heavy menus. Service was friendly and efficient. Food came quickly. We had shrimp cocktail (jumbo, just huge!) and a Caesar salad to start, followed by the beef Wellington and 20 oz ribeye. I went to Coach Grill for the first time last Friday night to meet a friend and had a wonderful experience. To our luck, there were two seats available at the bar. Soon as we sat down, the bartender welcomed us and took our drink order, the drinks were perfect. The bartender shared the specials with us; ultimately, I ordered the Crab Crusted Haddock and my friend ordered the filet mignon. Both dishes were delicious and did not disappoint. Our Boys Night Out party of four has dined here before with somewhat mixed results. It's definitely an attractive restaurant, and for the most part the steak dishes we've ordered have been quite good. Tonight, we were looking forward to a good dinner and a couple of us were craving the Beef Wellington featured on their menu. Our table was ready promptly at 7pm, and we were seated at a corner booth. So far so good! Our excellent waitress arrived within a few minutes, took our drink orders and discussed the specials. Unfortunately, they were out of Beef Wellington. Well that was disappointing. For our first course we ordered: Chopped Salads - crispy bacon, blue cheese, tomato, radish, black olive, onion, dijon vinaigrette French Onion Soup Au Gratin The salads were nicely executed, tasty and not overdressed. The French Onion Soup also met with a positive review. For dinner we selected: Filet Mignon 10 oz with béarnaise sauce Boneless Ribeye 16 oz with horseradish cream Chargrilled New Zealand Lamb 16 oz, mint demi-glace Onion Rings Sautéed Mushrooms Creamed Spinach My Filet was cooked to order correctly as were the other two. My steak was good, though I've certainly had more tender Filet Mignon. I also tasted the ribeye, which was very good and nicely cooked. The diner who ordered the lamb complained that it was very dry. Our sides were excellent, everyone readily consumed those, though the Onion Rings disappeared the fastest. Our waitress brought us a complimentary slice of ice cream cake, which was superb. Dinner with drinks/wine cost $400. Overall, we thought this dining experience merited 4-stars, and we would be happy to return. read more

Ambiance is very nice and there are booths and tables as well as a bar area and fireplaces. Food is quite expensive. Try the bacon wrapped scallion, crab crusted haddock and maybe a risotto side. The brunch menu is a hidden gem and somewhat more affordable if you want a nice date. read more

Coach grill was delicious. We started with the oysters Rockefeller (because January 10th is national oysters Rockefeller day!!). It was my first time having them, so not much to compare to but I thought they were excellent. For entrees, I tried the beef Wellington which had an amazing rich flavor but it was so filling I could only eat a third of it before boxing the rest up. My fiancé had the prime rib and he raved about. For sides, we tried mashed potatoes and the corn pudding(which we heard amazing things about). I loved the corn but my partner wasn't a fan because it has a sweetness. Our waiter was so attentive, and in general the place had such an old school steakhouse vibe. We ordered a prime rib rare and a rib steak rare, but both were medium when we received them. Neither had seasonings on them. This wasn't very pleasant. I expected better. The mashed potatoes had no taste either. And on the flip side, the creamed spinach was very salty. The bread was hard as a rock. read more

Had a dinner for six on a Sunday. Our server was very friendly, chatty (which I wasn't expecting) and helpful. We had a gluten allergy and a shellfish allergy at the table. Both were acknowledged and well attended. If you're ordering a steak they are very allergy friendly. This is not a scratch kitchen. I was told which dishes I could not eat. I was surprised their gluten free roll was a burger bun given the price points here. NYAJ could teach them a thing or two. The quality of the food was good but I'm not sure if it justified the cost. The ambiance was very "leather banquettes and white tablecloths" but more family friendly than I expected. If you're looking for a steakhouse meal, this is the place in Metrowest. read more

The service was great, except I had to ask to have my water glass refilled. Most of the food was kind of average. The onion soup was a little better than average. The prime rib was extremely tender, but lacking in taste. Brussels Sprouts and Bacon Lardons were a bit disappointing in texture and taste. The biggest disappointments were the onion strings and the dessert. The onion strings were limp and soggy, and not very hot when they reached the table. For dessert, I ordered the Skillet Cookie. First I burned my hand on the skillet because I was not warned that it was hot. I think this would have been a good dessert had it not been for the fact that the cookie was burnt. read more

This place is a great restaurant that is very consistent on the food and service. We usually go for special occasions but it can be a place to go on the regular. Plenty of parking. The dirty martini and side car is amazing. We usually get an appetizer and they're very good and generous portions. Both my wife and I usually order steaks and some side dishes and dessert. The place in the winter with the fireplace going on is amazing and very pretty. The decorate for each of the holidays and do a great job. Still a wonderful dining experience! We tend to save Coach Grill as a special occasion venue, so we don't dine here frequently. After a several month gap, returning here found the food and service to be on the same superb par as on our recent visits. Before reviewing the food, a special recognition/appreciation of our waiter, Dylan. Dylan was considerate and attentive without being overbearing or hovering. He provided a great experience that we find increasingly rare when dining out. Although it's billed as a steakhouse, the two seafood entrees we had, the grilled salmon and the grilled scallops/mushroom risotto were equally enjoyable as any of the Coach Grill's steaks we've had. The atmosphere is dark, leathery and relaxed as one would expect at a fine dining establishment. We enjoyed being able to hear each other talk without the music and mayhem found at the headliner steakhouses in Boston.
