The Tack Room's menu is pretty interesting with a lot of things I don't usually see combined together. Today I gave it a try and felt that it was good in some areas and just ok in others. Overall the food tasted pretty healthy despite having pork belly and chorizo. The seasoning was definitely on the lighter side, where the french onion soup was tasting pretty close to an extremely light broth. Tried the cassoulet which I've heard of before but never seen on a menu. It was very hearty but also a but bland. Pulled pork and pork belly seemed to have zero salt. Duck leg confit also very bland. It was cooked well but just bland. The dishes with citrus were quite tasty. Beets and arugala salad very good, good quality goat cheese. Alligator chorizo grilled oysters surprisingly good. Never had alligator chorizo before but it was crispy and not fatty even though it resembled bacon visually. The oysters were small, even more small in comparison to the chorizo but it was a good bite. I would recommend skipping the clam chowder, french onion soup (not really caramelized onions to be honest), and the cassoulet unless you feel empowered to salt your own food. The clientele was definitely in the 60+ range. Nothing wrong with that obviously but tastes change with age and maybe thats why the seasoning was so light. Today there were just two wait staff for the whole place. Seemed understaffed and it took almost thirty minutes for food to come out. Waiting for the check took about fifteen minutes. Staff was nice but definitely overloaded. Today was a holiday though. read more

My most recent experience with The Tack Room was handled poorly, and I felt devalued as a guest. I try to go a few times a year. Last month, they posted a special that caught my eye. We had a reservation for a celebratory dinner, and I commented to ask if the special would still be on for that date. The chef/owner responded immediately that it would. Knowing specials often run out quickly, I called on the morning of the reservation, and a hostess said, yes, the special was still on. So we got there, we ordered, and we asked for the special -- the waitress said she'd confirm, and then came back and just said 'no, it was just for that day,' which was confusing. I explained that the chef and the hostess had confirmed that it was still on the menu and asked if it had run out -- again, understandable -- and she said it 'was just something we made for an influencer.' At that point, I didn't want to press the two 'no' answers, so we finished the dinner and moved on. I reached out privately after the fact as I wanted to see if there was a better way I could have communicated to the restaurant or asked for clarification, and asked if there was a better way to confirm information moving forward, and they never responded. After waiting 1/2 hour after being seated for service on a Sunday afternoon my Mom ordered the 1/2 roasted chicken only to be told they were out of it that day. Turns out they were out of the lamb too but waited to be asked about it before letting us know. Mom got the ribs but not the cornbread that comes with it. When we asked about it we were told they were out of the cornbread too. I ordered the duck a l'orange medium rare and it was horrible because it was actually cooked to medium well but the skin was not crisp and the fat was not rendered -- it was thick and rubbery. A disappointing dinner at TTR last night. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the waiter brought fried chicken. That was OK since they quickly made the exchange. However, the sandwich was not very good. The pork was tough and the bbq sauce was watery and tasteless. And, they put it in a wire mesh basket on top of wax paper. The sauce dripped through the wax paper, into the basket and covered the table. At one point I didn't know if I was eating the pork or bits of the wax paper. I ordered slaw as a substitute for the fries. It had a brown hue to it and at first I thought it had spoiled. It was saturated in vinegar and some sort of spice and was barely edible. My girlfriend ordered the clam chowder and the winter salad. The chowder was under seasoned and the salad was overly dressed. The beer was good, however. This is too bad since this is the only restaurant in Lincoln and they have a captive audience. They really have the opportunity to shine and become a go-to for the local community. read more

Our party of four came here Sunday at 6:30 for dinner. We didn't have a reservation and were seated promptly. The server came and took our order just after we sat down and everything started coming out shortly thereafter. The beet salad, wings, and whipped feta dip were good, not great, but is exactly what I would expect for a small town restaurant. The corned beef brisket burger special was very good! I loved the service and the atmosphere at the Tack Room, but the food left a lot to be desired. We came on a Tuesday night and the restaurant was packed, which gave a nice lively atmosphere without feeling overcrowded. I started with the Beet and Arugula salad, which was fresh, but had very little flavor beyond the two core components. For the entree, my Duck à l'Orange was significantly overcooked and almost inedible. The presentation of both dishes was great, but missed on quality. I wanted to like this place. The online menu showed lots of gluten free options. When we got there we found out most of the items were fried in the same fried as items containing gluten and they were not very accommodating in helping me figure out what was safe. They have a good tap list which my son and husband enjoyed. They got the baby back ribs which they enjoyed. I had the beet and arugula salad. It was fine. The Tack Room is your standard local tap room. Nothing special but not bad for a night out if you have no dietary restrictions. read more

More like 4.25. We really enjoyed ourselves, and would go again, once we got past the server quality issue, that the management addressed (so not endemic). The draft beer had a good selection and tasted freshly tapped. We had the cauliflower and the "meat hook" (there's a better name, but just ask for that). The latter was especially excellent. For meals some of us had the pumpkin risotto (which was OK), the alligator (which I really enjoyed) and I think the salmon. We also had the chicken sandwich, that was excellent. Overall it was good pub food with enough variety on the menu that I think would please most palettes. All that said, here's the thing. I seriously think they have some kind of ketchup-a-phobia. They serve really good fries with some of their sandwiches, with a super teeeny tiny taste of ketchup. I felt like Oliver T, saying, "please sir, may I have another?". I don't need a trough of ketchup, but for sure some would be nice. I can't believe it's a cost of sale issue - they could tack on $.10 per check for a "tomato recovery fee" and I'd be happy to pay, if only for the luxury of sufficient ketchup. I suspect it's a visual quality thing, as having a bottle on table ruins some aesthetic. I really hope they reconsider. Or I might have to go BYOK. read more

Auntie's birthday lunch at the Tack Room. What we ordered: Apps - loaded tater tots and wings. The style of the tator tots was more towards coquettes and it was served with a spicy alioli. We chose two different sauces for the wings - honey hot and pineapple habenero. My cousin doesn't tolerate spicy food but she said that pineapple habenero wasn't too bad. The wings were superb Entrees - sirloin steak, bolognese, and gnocci with mushrooms. Each of us enjoyed our meals, I personally had the bolognese and it was 7.5/10. Everything was cooked well but the sauce had a bit too much celery for my taste perhaps it was the size of the chunks. Overall it was fine. Dessert - cookie skillet and bread pudding. Both were good Overall the restaurant had a good food and drinks. Service was friendly. Plenty of parking as well. I recommend and definitely order their wings! read more

Dinner last night: - Korean BBQ smoked beef rib with green onion chimichurri - Tack Room Wings with BBQ dry rub - An order of fries for the table - Shrimp po' boy (popcorn shrimp baby arugula, spicy slaw, Cajun aioli on a brioche bun - Smoked half rack of ribs served with baked beans, cornbread, spicy slaw, and pickles with Carolina BBQ sauce - Salmon burger with lettuce, tomato, pickled red onion, chipotle aioli, on a brioche bun - Grilled sirloin, with duck confit potatoes, baby arugula, cremini mushrooms, balsamic glaze (billed as award winning) I made a reservation for 6:30 and was sat immediately. I almost wish they had us wait because I would have loved a chance to relax in the Adirondack chairs outside on the lawn. It seemed the perfect spot to kick back with a cocktail before dinner. As others have mentioned, finding the entrance is a challenge. We parked in the back lot. We missed the entrance and walked all they way around the building to come in through the hall with the elevator. For a Saturday night the place never got very busy. The noise level was low which was appreciated (find my review where I was out with friends at dinner and we all had our phones out and texting each other because the decibel level of the room was in the ear bleed level). Back to The Tack Room and the food: EVERYTHING was delicious! Will definitely be back. The beef rib was the table favorite, hands down. It is the perfect low carb, high protein option. I'd order a few of them and a salad as a dinner. Mainly because I'd not want to share. I am not a wings person so did not try them. They were ordered with the dry rub, no sauce. When the order came out they were covered in one of the sauces so we sent them back. Everyone said they were the best wings they had. My friend prefers the wing flats to the drums and always asks the server if she can request more flats than drums, but was told they only serve the drums (odd). One flat must have escaped the poultry farm and made its way through the kitchen and onto the plate. By the way, the wings they served were much larger than I've seen elsewhere. They did look delicious. I ordered the shrimp po' boy because I can never say no to popcorn shrimp. I had filled up on fries so was only able to manage a few bites. The combination of the shrimp, veggies in the slaw and and the aioli was delectable. The ribs were served on a tray and was so much food. Ribs served with homemade baked beans, cornbread, spicy slaw and pickles. Carolina BBQ sauce on the side. Again, raves for the food. They are served with a corn bread muffin that looked really burned. There was talk about sending it back and wondering why the expediter would allow it to leave the kitchen. We risked tasting it and I loved it. It was slightly overdone but not too much. The texture was crumbly and not particularly sweet, a very rustic flavor from whatever corn meal is used. The overly done outside seemed to be from the infamous Maillard reaction, because on the outside of the muffin was sugar. I'd order it again, especially if they serve it cupcake style with mashed potato "frosting" as I've seen mentioned in other reviews. My friend enjoyed the salmon burger and even packed up the leftovers to bring home. Apologies that I do not have more to add on this one. Last up: the grilled sirloin, with duck confit potatoes, baby arugula, cremini mushrooms, balsamic glaze was exquisite. It is a huge amount of steak (yay leftovers) that was well marinated and so tender. I loved the balsamic glaze. Delicious. Nothing is better than duck confit potatoes so I took one of those too. They are so savory and rich. Loved them. All of the desserts were so tempting, but last night was the perfect summer evening so we opted to drive over to Pizzi Farm for ice cream. Some of the issues we had: - The menu changes are slipped into the folders, meaning some get missed. Only half the table had the correct menus. I think the only real difference was the salmon burger. The older menu listed it as having seaweed in it, the new menu did not. - The server was lovely, but there was confusion about what was ordered for the wings and what came out. All the props to her for admitting she was the one who incorrectly entered the order. I loved that she took ownership of the issue and fixed it graciously. A huge plus: My former chef friend was with us and _none_ of his order was wrong (I don't count that he had to ask again for the side of BBQ sauce. What?!?!? That NEVER happens! He has the worst restaurant karma ever where he winds up having to send things back. This curse was broken by The Tack Room! Went to The Tack Room for dinner with another couple and we were all disappointed. My partner and I both ordered burgers, medium rare. His was a beef burger, mine was a Beyond burger. Both were over cooked and dry. The fries were lukewarm and not tasty. The other couple had ribs, which were "okay". The waiter seemed disinterested in his job, did the bare minimum. Not sure how this place doesn't have 5 stars. This is our second time having lunch here and my wife and I were blown away by the quality of the food. We had mussels last visit and had the Wagyu burger today. She had the duck grilled cheese. Their burger was entered into a competition for one of the greatest burgers and I could see why. Not going to find a burger like this at Five Guys. We sat at the high tops and were served by both the bartender and the waitress which we thought was a very nice touch. I was on the hunt for a really good mac and cheese. There were several reviews saying their mac and cheese was great, lots of flavor and cheese. When I saw the option for hot honey chicken to be added, I was excited thinking I was definitely going to satisfy my craving for quality mac and cheese. Many reviews also said their drinks were great, which was a plus. I was very disappointed. The mac and cheese had barely any cheese, there was no sauce, it was dry but the worst part was the chicken. Hot honey is honey infused with chilis so it's spicy but the sweetness comes through strong. This absolutely was not hot honey. This was hot sauce, like Red's hot sauce from the bottle, with no detectable honey flavor or any sweetness whatsoever. The hot sauce obliterated any other flavor that might have been in that dish. Even pieces of pasta that never touched the chicken tasted solely of hot sauce. I barely ate it and did not take it home. My dining companion got the regular mac and cheese; dry and flavorless. They also didn't eat it or take it home. They brought me the wrong drink, twice. The espresso martini was decent, nothing special. The second drink was supposed to be a chocolate hazelnut martini but instead I got a holiday sugar cookie martini. The waiter hadn't been back for a while, so I drank it but it wasn't very good. Also, it was cream colored. How did you look at this martini and think it was the chocolate hazelnut one? They did comp that drink and one of the mac and cheeses though. The restaurant is very small and all one room, not a separate bar area and dining room. That by itself isn't necessarily bad, but they tried to squeeze in as many tables as possible. If I had put my arm out straight on either side I would have touched the person at the next table. When the table behind me got up to leave, their chair banged into mine and they hadn't pulled the chair out a significant amount. And as the restaurant filled up, it got too loud to hear the person sitting across from you. The waiter was very nice and apologetic that we didn't like the food and the drinks were incorrect. We were able to be seated immediately on a Friday at 6pm. And they made an effort to make it better by comping part of the meal. I think they tried. read more

The location is great, the restaurant itself is designed well and great windows to look out and take in the sights! The menu looked appealing and the staff was very attentive and polite. Our food choices arrived and looked inviting. Our sandwiches were tasty and fresh plus the fries were hot and crispy! Only one comment I could mention and maybe worth suggesting was the Stuffed Calamari....for sharing one was large the other small I would assume both would be relatively same size to share and looked presentable yet when slicing it it was extremely dense tough and warm, super dry with little sauce on the plate. In all fairness it was not seasoned or moist. I assumed it was precooked and reheated. Did not want to make a deal since our sandwiches were the best choice. Calamari was definitely tough and tasteless and if we come back, we won't choose this appetizer for $18 again. The waiter had a nice personality and so we felt our feelings for this review. Suggestion: Choose another stuffing that's moist and seasoned and possibly poach it in your sauce (which was tasty ). I like sitting at the bar the most. The drink list can be hit or miss but they know how to make a good standard drink and are quite attentive. I love the idea of this menu but where it doesn't work for me is every dish has smoked meat or serious spicy heat. For lovers of both, this is your spot. However for those of us that prefer a no smoke no spice dish we are short on options. Even the clam chowder has a very heavy smoked flavor. My fave is the Duck grilled cheese: Really fantastic. One of my new favorite places for dinner. The food is amazing, price is right, full bar and amazing staff. Almost hate to review because the place is so good I don't want to tell others!!!! Strange location, but the grocery store gives you tons of parking. Large bar, screened in outdoor area available as well. The menu is upscale pub fare. One of the best burgers I've ever had, also try the cornbread cupcake that comes with mashed potato frosting, fried chicken and gravy. First of all it is very difficult to locate because their sign is so small!It was awful! I ordered Poutine and my wife Biscuits and Gravy. Either the chef or manager must've not ever had either of these items but when the waitress brought our dishes out earlier, we were saying this isn't what we were expecting! My wife had a hard biscuit, NO gravy and a runny egg. My dish had no fries or brown gravy . They took bread and something else deep fried it. Gross. On a positive note. Our waitress was very sweet. This is a very cozy and convenient local restaurant. The service is prompt and friendly and there is plenty of parking. But the food is rather underwhelming. The restaurant does not take reservations, however we were seated right away upon arrival, at a spacious table. The Thanksgiving poutine is a delightful combination of poutine and stuffings and some sprinkles of Turkey. While the Turkey appearance was limited, the flavors blended rather nicely. I had high hopes for the Get in My Belly dish which is comprised of some of my favorite things: pork belly, Brussels sprouts and glass noodles. Unfortunately not a single one of the ingredients lived up to what it promised to be on the menu. The dish had only 3 pieces of pork belly, and they were all quite dry and lacking flavors. The Brussels sprouts and the glass noodles had virtually no flavor besides spicy. I was very disappointed as the combination could have produced robust flavors and fanatic texture if done correctly. While I appreciated the warm service and ease of parking, the food simply did not deliver, particularly given the price point. I think Lincoln can do better. read more

Went on a Thursday PM. The location is pretty much in a food desert, with no other restaurants near by. It is next door to the donnelans supermarket. Parking was easy. Check in was easy, they had a table right away. The dining room is not that big, but they had room for us. The atmosphere was, casual+ as I would put it. We ordered french onion soup, muscles and some type of corn bread muffin for appetizers. The french onion soup was OK, the muffin was confusing, but the mussels were really good. I would for sure order them again, perhaps the highlight of the dinner. Then for dinner we ordered a burger, the risotto and a dinner special, proscutto wrapped monk fish. The food was pretty good. Not amazing, but I do think I want to come back and try the other stuff. Relaxing atmosphere, and service was good. I did like the presentation of the food. I recently went to this place while in the area as it was one of the few open on a Sunday night. I feel like maybe because of that, the kitchen staff just didn't care because like...where else are you gonna go? The grilled watermelon skewer was delicious and unlike anything I have ever had. It was supposed to have both red and yellow watermelon but it only had yellow. Totally unique dish though. As strange as it was, it ended up being the only good thing. (Which is crazy to me that they didn't get more straightforward dishes right but this one was awesome) We also got the tater tot croquettes because how could you go wrong with that. Well, we soon found out how they could go wrong. They came out completely burned. Like black. I took one bite and they tasted horrible. I am not one to send food back but these were inedible. Our waiter was very nice and said he would take them off the bill and get us another order. The second order came out and while it wasn't burnt, it was severely overcooked as well. I don't know if the breading is just something that doesn't deep fry well or if the cook just doesn't know when to pull something out of the fryer but the second order was also just not good. I took one bite of the second order of them and ended up just giving up on them. Then we ordered the s'mores dip because, again, how could you go wrong? This dessert was also just not good. It was so, so watery. S'mores dip should have almost a hot fudge texture to it, not a soup like one. It was also served with 2 cookies that were supposed to be graham cracker flavored, I guess? Two cookies was not enough for an entire bowl of dip. And the cookies were burnt to a crisp. They were ridiculously hard and did not taste good at all. I would have been happier with a sleeve of some regular old graham crackers. Overall, I was totally unimpressed. I'm glad we only went for apps and dessert because I can't imagine how disappointed I would have been with a meal there. read more

The Tack Room opened for business in Lincoln Station over the weekend. It's located in the former Real space next to the Lincoln Commuter Rail station. This cozy bar & grill has an inviting and relaxed atmosphere with wood flooring all in the same room. They have a fully stocked bar with 10 draught beers from around New England. There is high chair seating up at the bar (one TV), high top tables with metal stools and wooden tables & chairs in the dining room. There is also an outdoor patio seating area too. Classic rock music was playing over the speakers. The food menu offerings are streamlined offering burgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, appetizers (mussels, stuffed dates, wings, poutine), salads, chowder, bisque, entrees (fish, chicken, steak, Bolognese pasta, cured pork mac & cheese, vegetarian), and desserts (bread pudding, apple crisp so, cheesecake). The prices here are moderate, most entrees $14-$25. The food menu is offered all the time for now, but is still evolving. I stopped into The Tack Room for dinner. The place was slightly busy, but I could be seated anywhere. I chose a table in the center of the dining area section and given a menu. The waitress arrived promptly with ice water and informed me ahead of time of the items unavailable on the menu including the wings, aracini, chocolate chip bread pudding. As I was deciding, I saw some of the appetizers coming out to other tables including the Poutine (in a skillet, they sold out) and Mussels with garlic bread both looked great. However, I enjoyed some beach pizza less than 2 hours beforehand, so I skipped the appetizers. I decided to order the Pan Roasted Cod ($23) which came out hot, a thick flaky filet of cod over Portuguese pepper stew (tomatoes, peppers, onions, chorizo) and small yellow saffron poached potato balls. The flavors were on the slightly spicy side and I really enjoyed this. For dessert, the Brown Butter Apple Crisp ($8) was served very hot baked in a small iron skillet which had cinnamon apples topped with a toasted oat topping, powdered sugar, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I love when apple crisp is served very hot and comes with ice cream.  The check for one entree and one dessert with tax and before tip was $33.25. The food was excellent and well executed. service was very prompt and friendly. I was given ice water refills during my dinner, which is very much appreciated. read more
