    Tacos
    Peter C.

I came expecting big things from this spot. They have a robust taco menu for not being a Mexican restaurant. The options are tacos are vast. Tuna poke, lobster roll, smash burger, pulled pork... so many to choose from. I ended up being disappointed with my selections. The lobster roll was more lobster salad being 75% mayo. I didn't finish it. The smash burger taco was salty. I mean like really salty. It might have been good otherwise. Pulled pork was probably the best taco from my selections. Tuna poke had too much mayo that I could barely taste the tuna. The highlight was the lobster guacamole. I really liked that. For now, I can say I was disappointed by the tacos which was the reason I came initially I will go back and try more dishes though. Service was A+ and there's outside seating. The inside was loud but great AC on a humid night. They also had an open mic night downstairs which looked fun. I will give it another chance but I will not order the tacos again, which is disappointing because they sound so good.

Have now been here twice on a Tuesday for trivia. Both times have had very different trivia questions (dependent on who is asking and creating them) but the food and service has been great both times. We were a party of 7 one time and a party of 8 the other and they were very accommodating when we booked in advance. The drinks and food were on the pricier side.

Food was very good. $6 taco helps with portion-control. Better for the soul. The service was second to none; we had a lot of fun. But disappointed the open mic was not to be for an event was scheduled instead of which we did not see. But the place was clean and the din not obscene with comfortable seating to soothe the spleen.@

Update! They got mint for the summer and make lovely mojitos :) also had a large group (20+ people) catered and the service was excellent!

Highlight of the meal was the Ceasar Salad, which truly set a new standard for all salads everywhere. Tacos were average, however for the amount of filling they have make them quite overpriced. The only comparison I can make for the harvest bowl is cinnamon. alot. of. cinnamon... little strange... Final thoughts: service was good, ambiance was decent, and the food was alright.

All staff was way kinder than expected. Host, bartender, multiple servers checked on us with a welcoming attitude all night long. The menu had some really creative ideas and they were delicious! The space is open and well designed. The Crunchwrap I ate had a beef patty in it and texturally it wasn't the best. It's probably more labor but it would've had a way better bite if it had been ground beef. The cheese sauce was perfection. Kind of disappointed in the dessert menu options - a house made choco taco would've been something to write home about, but not a sundae of bought ingredients.

This is SUCH a delicious Southwestern restaurant in Wellesley Square! Definitely my new go to spot when I'm in the area! The menu is so unique, featuring a variety of a-la-carte tacos and other Mexican dishes. My roommate and I came here for dinner on a Tuesday night, coincidentally right in time for their 7PM Tuesday night trivia bash. It was so much fun! We ordered a half portion of nachos to start, which were perfectly sized for two people. The guacamole and queso were both super tasty on the chips. For tacos, we each ordered 3 and this was definitely enough food on top of the nacho appetizer. I ordered the chicken, birria, and smash burger tacos. They were absolutely delicious! The smash burger was definitely my favorite, it tasted like the best big mac I've ever had in my life. The birria was also very good as well- it was my first birria I've ever had and I've been so sad to have been missing out, the brown sugar dipping sauce was great for all 3 tacos. My roommate also got the lobster taco and said it was very good. We will 100% be back over an over again. Dinner and trivia is a MUST here.

Food was good. Wait staff was excellent. Attentive. Yet left you alone. Portions were right sized - at least for me. I liked that you ordered items individually. You could order 1 taco. Or 3 tacos. Or 6 tacos. Option of outdoor seating. Parking on street or a big parking lot out back.

Tacos and empanadas were fresh and delicious. Great tortilla on the tacos, some of the best Birria I've had up north. Service was great, nice chill ambience at the downstairs bar.

Came here with a friend because we were in the area. Our drinks were pretty good, on the stronger side, but I liked how the Purple Haze was smoky and not too sweet. The ahi tuna poke bowl was pretty good, and the addition of hot sauces definitely made it better. I personally liked the PBLT taco best, and the baja fish was a classic baja style dish, but felt the short rib taco was somewhat lacking in flavor and I wish it had more sauce. The sliders were probably the best! A nice kick of jalapeño, juicy beef, and crispy melted cheese. I honestly may come back just to get more sliders! Our waitress was pretty attentive, and our waters were always filled. Overall, the restaurant is quaint and cozy, and a pretty affordable dinner spot compared to other restaurants nearby.

Questions were answered accurately, service was very friendly and lighthearted but still professional. Also big personal thing, our water glasses were rarely low let alone empty. Truly an enjoyable experience. The food was also very good, the highlights being the braised chicken thigh, calamari, and fried potatoes. All were well executed, fresh and flavor packed with my wife and my favorite being the chicken, it was truly a special dish. The meat paella was not really our thing, the rice was good, but the top was a little too well done for our liking, and there was a little too much wood smokey flavor for us personally throughout. We were okay with it because the portions throughout the other dishes were very generous and we were quite satisfied already, barely having enough room to have a few bites of the churros which were amazing. They were super fresh, crispy, and covered in cinnamon sugar. The chocolate sauce served with them is very rich and dark to contrast the crispy sweetness. Excited to come by and try some more of the tapas options Definitely reccomend as a different, fun, tasty night out, especially if you don't want to decide on just one thing.

Then a waiter was taking care of dishes at the bar. My husband, a brown man, said, "excuse me, hi, we had a reservation." The jackass waiter snapped (yes snapped) saying, "I just told you one minute," which neither of us heard at all, so he must have been talking to the dishes. At that point, we left as I am not spending my money at an establishment that doesn't respect their customers and, quite possibly, is racist. We did go to Juniper and spent over $200 and had an excellent meal and service.

Service felt disorganized and inattentive from the start. Nothing catastrophic, just consistently waiting longer than needed and off enough to make you feel like an afterthought rather than a guest. The steaks were the biggest disappointment. We ordered them at specific temperatures, but they arrived already overdone; we ordered medium and medium rare. They were served on plates so hot they kept cooking at the table. By the time you got a few bites in, you were basically eating a different doneness than what you ordered. The Manhattan cocktail came over ice, which is...a choice. Not the one I'd expect at a place positioning itself as a steakhouse. And then there were the Brussels sprouts, which somehow included a literal piece of lobster shell. Not exactly the kind of surf-and-turf surprise anyone is looking for on a night out when they're paying for a babysitter too. All jokes aside, I was worried for someone who may have shellfish allergy. Could've been catastrophic for the restaurant. All in all, it was a beautiful night out that deserved a better meal. Instead of "black and blue" the steakhouse way, I left feeling more like "black and blue" the emotional way--just without the satisfaction.

Post-COVID, life looks a little different. I've changed jobs and moved to another town, so it's no longer the easy drop-in it once was. Still, I make a point to come back at least every few months. What hasn't changed is the consistency. This remains one of the most reliably excellent restaurants in the Boston area, and still one of my all-time top five--while others that once held that spot haven't quite held up. One thing has changed, though: the Ghost of Mary. Scotty, the former bar manager, created what's still my favorite cocktail of all time. When he left, the drink left with him (by mutual agreement), and while he generously shared the recipe with me, I've never quite managed to recreate it at home. It was clearly meant to be made by the expert. That said, Sycamore hasn't missed a beat. The space is still as comfortable and quirky as ever, the food remains consistently excellent, and the current bar program is in very capable hands. They have a great cocktail and wine list; I always have a hard time choosing just one. I went with a vodka drink called Nothing Rhymes Orange and my husband had a beer. Since we were not that hungry he ordered the Chorizo Croquettas and I had my favorite salad in the world (not kidding) their Kale Salad. Let me just tell you 1. if you don't like kale, you will love this salad. Just the way they make it and the flavors/crunch will make your mouth water 2. you will eat the whole thing. 3. trust me. If there is one app that you need to order its the chorizo croquettas, OMG. They are like little small drops of heaven and there are only 3 so if you plan to share I would recommend ordering more than just one. For dessert, we ordered an Espresso Martini. The only thing that was missing is the coffee beans but still good. Thanks Sycamore for another fabulous dinner and evening. Thanks Kale Salad for being the best ever. I know I will be back for another one sometime soon. Cheers~
