Meh, what's the point. Beautiful new-ish place in Wellesley. We booked for Mother's day. An extended family of hungry folks were promptly seated by a gracious host. Service was great. Drink orders were taken. Menu questions were answered. The menu is pretty small. A list of tacos, which I guess is what makes it "Mexican". Four or so dishes. Some salads. They brought out a bunch of random dishes when the food came, but it wasn't a problem getting them taken off the check. The only issue is kind of a big one, the food is gross. Really, really bad. Two of us got the chicken under a brick which was drizzled with maple syrup or honey or something that just doesn't belong there. After peeling off the skin (why order chicken in a restaurant and remove the skin...?) it was just bland and dry. Brussels sprouts that were charred on the edges but raw inside. Lobster tacos with a few teensy bits of lobster and a lot of salsa that was kind of gross on a rubbery tortilla. I'll spare a long list but it was not pleasant. A bad sign when you get home and have to feed your hungry kids because most dishes were pretty bad. Plenty of other places around here to try out. read more

A truly embarrassing showing. This is a restaurant that doesn't know what it is, and it's really sad to see because it's taking a spot for what could be a great eatery in Wellesley and turning it into a disappointing future-failure. I'll elaborate. The vibe was immaculate. Immaculately bad. There was one other table filled at 7pm on a Monday. Successful restaurants have asses in seats no matter the day of the week. The place is also massive, with an entire downstairs seating section and bar. They apparently host trivia nights and live music, so for the 4 people that go to those, I apologize. The waiters were kind and we were noticed and seated immediately. Upon looking at the menu though, I realized I was being subject to what might not be a very good dinner. Never trust a big menu. And never EVER trust a menu that tries multiple cuisines at once. Stuff like Korean Brussels sprouts and poke bowls at a tex-mex themed restaurant is always a huge red flag. And lobster guacamole? You have to be out of your mind. From a background in culinary training, pairing seafood with guacamole isn't just non-traditional, it's fundamentally not going to taste good. You never see those items paired with chicken tinga or birria at your favourite local spots. Nevertheless, I knew what I came for, and that was the birria tacos. I thought that due to the nature of birria's preparation and how it's supposed to be braised and meticulously seasoned, it couldnt be bad, right? As you'd expect, wrong. The beef in the tacos was dry and added in chunks, not pulled. The tortillas were fried hard and tasted stale, not dipped into consomme before being fried on the flat top: the most obvious differentiating factor of a birria taco. The cheese was actually really good in texture but lacked any flavour and was only piled into the bottom of the tortilla, not throughout as it should be. I attempted to drown the taco in consomme to add some moisture to the dish. It was alright. The biggest sin of all was the lack of crucial traditional components. The plate was limeless. The tacos had no cilantro or onion. So I figured I'd just ask for some chopped cilantro. The waiter asked me "you mean parsley, right" I said, "no, cilantro. Like you normally put on birria tacos" (or any tacos, for that matter) He went to the kitchen to check if they had cilantro, and returned telling me they didn't. So you're telling me you're a tex-mex restaurant and have no cilantro? That's just ridiculous. This could be an incredible restaurant, it has the space, facilities, location, etc. But it's hard to do anything when the menu is ridiculous and the chef has no idea what he's doing. Take the poke and korean food off the menu unless you want to pivot to being a poke or korean restaurant. Do it right. read more

Tex mex, one of those categories that's really hit or miss. This is a big miss for me. Tried almost one of every taco and if I could give a recommendation it would be to avoid any seafood taco. If I added up the total amount of seafood across one shrimp, one chilled lobster, one buttered lobster taco it might almost be 1 oz. Almost. I know it's Wellesley but even a well off resident would be appalled to get two shrimp about as round as a nickel and thinner than a pencil. Great way to feel nickel and dimed but it was actually $5.00 not $0.05 Besides the anemic portions the flavors were not there and the texture of the shrimp was a bit slimy. With shrimp that small it's hard to not to overcook it so maybe they let it be a bit more on the undercooked side. Carnitas was dry. Even if it was in a tub precooked clearly plenty of other taco places know how to keep it moist, just not this one, not that it's a taco place it seems like a bar with food on the side. "Rib eye" tacos were gristly, my dining partner had to spit out what looked like some inedible connective ligament. Small plates can certainly be done well but it also leads to mistakes or problems being magnified. But you really need a magnifying glass to see some of the proteins. Their chips were also soaked in oil. The oil was either not up to temperature or they just dumped the chips grease and all without draining. Service was incredibly slow. Took almost fifteen minutes to get the check after the waiter asked if we wanted the check. No attention to water / refills. There looked to be someone in a management capacity dressed casually where all the staff were uniformed. This person was at the food window most of the time expediting so I can't even say that the food I tried wasn't accidentally this bad. It definitely passed their bar. Will not be going back, probably will be gone soon after the newness fades. If you tried this place and was wondering how it got 5 stars on yelp well hopefully my review will make you feel a bit better that you haven't suffered alone. read more

Nice atmosphere. Friendly, but somewhat untrained waitresses. The tacos are ok. Would be better if they were double wrapped in WARM corn tortillas. Charging for salsa is just a no-no. Other Mexican restaurants have tried to do this, but it just annoys the hell out of customers. Unless its super-fantastic, which this isn't. Doesn't feel very authentic, but for Tex-Mex, it could be worse. This is Wellesley after all, not Jalisco- or even Austin. read more

Simply GROSS The fish taco was ice cold and smelled up the whole area didn't eat that, the rock shrimp taco cold shrimp (think cheap shrimp cocktail) covered in "sweet" remoulade sauce didn't eat that either. Stack taco charred on bottom couldn't eat that. The guacamole came out of the kitchen brown, needed to skim the top before we could take a bite. Server was nice enough but certainly didn't make sure we had what we needed, never checked to see if food was ok and dropped the check before asking if we wanted anything else. We wanted the churros but skipped them probably was a good thing based on the meal. Don't waste your money! read more

Charlie (server) and Tie (chef) are a winning team! We went to celebrate a birthday dinner. Our birthday guy felt like a rockstar. The food is fantastic. Kids menu is not the usual boring fare. We got an app, drinks, tacos and a bowl. Everything was delicious. Prices are really great, too. It's not often that a family of four goes to dinner for less than $100 anymore. Service is prompt and so, so friendly. Total standout of the night, though, is their attention to food allergies. The entire restaurant is free of nuts, and everything else can be made or modified in some way according to dietary needs. And I can personally say, the taste is not compromised. We loved it. I've been here twice and had positive experiences both times. It seems this establishment has put good effort into addressing some of the concerns mentioned in previous negative reviews. This place is particularly great for the snacks and tacos. The shrimp and chorizo queso is delicious (if you are a rich and savory-food lover like me), the tacos are very yummy, and they have good mixed drinks. Hmm, I'll start with the service. Our server was very polite, but also quite neglectful. We waited 15 minutes for overpriced, low-quality drinks. Our food came out in the same amount of time. I always have an excellent experience when I come here! The waitstaff and manager are friendly and attentive. Food is always on point, and I've had few tacos in my life as delicious as their Korean Brussel sprout taco. I never write reviews, but I was so impressed with the service at Lockheart I just had to say something. Our waiter was friendly and attentive without being obtrusive, and the owner stopped by a few times to check on our meal. They handled my dietary restrictions graciously. It can be very stressful to eat at a new restaurant with restrictions, sometimes people seem very annoyed or confused, and it makes me nervous that the food will have something in it I can't eat, but at Lockheart I was put at ease immediately. Beautiful new restaurant in Wellesley, very spacious with two levels of dining. I was really excited to have a new restaurant in the area, and there are enough diners between Wellesley, Needham, Natick and surrounding towns for a restaurant to be successful, but the food has to be relatively good. they need to work on the food and hopefully can get there. The food quality is not high and the cooking is 'meh' as others have said. Dry rub wings are thickly coated with a seasoning that is oddly sweet, salmon in glow bowl also coated with seasoning that is not appetizing. The tacos we tried were OK -- steak, tuna and Brussels sprouts but the hot buttered lobster was a real disappointment. I think it was just a blob of the lobster guacamole appetizer and it is not good. not a fresh avocado flavor and disappointing. Portions are not generous and it's not cheap. Service was very pleasant and efficient. Decor great. Food has got to improve to make it though. Will give it one more try in the future in case tonight was an off night. read more

Love this new restaurant! We had several small plates and a few tacos, rather than entrees. The Mexican street corn is fantastic! Also loved the salmon taco and the cheesecake. The restaurant itself has a relaxed, stylish vibe. There is a nice bar. The restaurant has a liquor license so you don't have to order food to get a drink, which is rare in Wellesley. Downstairs there is more seating, another bar, and a room for private events. Will definitely go back! read more

Accidentally stumbled in looking for a beer and a snack to kill some time and ended up having a stellar experience. Very friendly and accommodating staff and one of the best ahi tuna (tuna poke) tacos I've ever had. Soooo good! Really enjoyed our night out here! Though our table wasn't available when we arrived, the manager found us a seat at the bar and first round of drinks were on him. A classy move. The fact that all the tacos can be served in flour, or corn tortillas or a lettuce wrap was a nice touch. The fried chicken and carnitas were faves. Also great guacamole to start. This restaurant is a new-ish establishment in Wellesley village (located in what was previously B.Good-Wellesley). Open since July 2022, this was my first time back to the area for dining since I moved away in 2021. The redesigned interior of the location maximizes the potential of the dining experience with a reconfigured layout that significantly expands seating and dine-in options, representing a shift from the fast-casual experience of the prior establishment. The refreshed interior offers a delightful mixture of elements of southwestern chic cowhide and leather upholstery, wood-paneled walls and exposed wood combined with a playing up of traditional New England charm of exposed brick walls and hammered copper tile at the ceiling. The overall ambience provides an edgy eclectic vibe at a moderate price point. In addition to a fun vibe, the meal was excellent. As a southern transplant to New England, I have up to this point failed to dine at a New England establishment that comes anywhere near the sublime experience of southern-style chicken and waffles. The southern method of chicken and waffles is typically prepared with whole bone-in chicken wings made with a cornmeal-based breading that generates a light, flaky, well-seasoned savory crunch that contrasts beautifully with the tender, crunchy sweetness of the waffle. The pairing is one among my several favorite brunch experiences which satisfy my craving for both breakfast and lunch in the same meal. So as a native Southerner with pretty high expectations for Chicken & Waffles, you can trust me when i say that their preparation was the best execution of this meal that I have experienced in New England. While they do not serve the whole wing bone-in as is the tradition in the South, the chicken pieces are made with thigh meat, ensuring the morsels remain moist and tender enough to endure deep-frying without drying out. Flavorfully seasoned and satisfyingly crunchy, the chicken was served hot and fresh with two perfectly prepared Belgian waffles which were golden and crunchy on the outside, and tender on the inside. The waffles needed NO butter whatsoever to achieve the rich, melt-in-your mouth decadence that one desires of a perfectly prepared Belgian waffle. A handful of mildly tart blueberries with maple syrup on the side pulled it all together for a well-balanced, rightly portioned brunch that left me more satisfied than I have been in a long time with respect to brunch experiences in Central MA. The service was terrific. Adamo met me at the host station with a smile, and served my meal with alacrity and joy. At the end of my meal, one of the owners, Mark, stopped by my table for a delightful chat. In short, all aspects of the dining experience were excellent. Happy to see this space come alive. It is a solid option - my rating of 4 stars is relative to other restaurants in Wellesley not vs. my best dining food ever.. it is solid, fun, and easy food. Goes down the middle and not in a bad way. I like the ability to choose my path in taco land like you would at a sushi restaurant, it is built for the indecisive and I like it. The drinks are fun and fresh. Been there 2x and enjoy going to the bar. Agree chips are not great and definitely have some kinks to work out, but all in all, if expectations are managed I think you will have a great experience. read more

I have several less common food allergies and the staff was excellent about it. They took it very seriously and we were quickly able to find menu items as-is or with simple substitutions that would work for me. I really appreciated it! The atmosphere is really nice. Husband and I went a few weeks ago and it was a mediocre experience at best. Service was extremely slow, we never got refills on water and the waiter never came around for another drink order. By the time we got someone's attention and the waiter came by, we were ready to go. Food was edible but not good. We ordered lobster guac, the guacamole was puréed a la baby food and tasted like the stuff you get at Costco. I ordered 2 tacos (shrimp and chicken); both blah at best. I usually do not write reviews but given my family's utter disgust and disappointment dining at Lockheart Friday night, I could not resist. My daughter's beef tacos looked, smelled and tasting worse than dog food. Smelly ground beef sprinkled with parmesan cheese (why?) on a way too thin, greasy tortilla shell. They should have simply gone with a with chopped up steak, pico, rice beans on a hard shell. My other daughters chicken taco tasted rotten. My fish taco smelled and tasted off. All our soft tortillas were too thin- the proteins burned right through. Overall, the restaurants decor is nice. However, it's a shame the food is a major miss.
