Went for dinner it was fine. Service was very good. Breakfast however was a different experience. Service was slow waitress was pleasant, but the coffee was bitter and scalding probably bottom of the pot. Ask for a fresh cup they don't brew the coffee it is dispensed from a push button machine. A restaurant that advertises breakfast should brew their coffee. Before you accuse me of being a coffee snob. I'm strictly a coffee black kind of guy for the last 50 years. Starbucks confuses me. But in this case I would bring my own coffee to breakfast even if I had to stand in line at Starbucks. I ordered the Smoked Salmon. It was surprisingly good a little to much lemon. We had breakfast here both mornings of our stay & really enjoyed it. I highly recommend the Prime Rib eggs benny as the jalapeno hollandase sauce has a great kick to it. I also tried the classic eggs benedict, while my husband enjoyed the pancakes & a custom omelet. The portions here are pretty big so we were able to hold off eating until dinner both days. The staff were also very nice & we never had a wait to be seated. The only thing I'd say is the lunch/dinner menu did not look appealing & that was why we only ate breakfast here & went elsewhere for dinner. With 90% of Ameristar's food options closed, they need to have a dinner/lunch menu that's less stuffy & has more casual variety like "24/7" at the Monarch. read more

I had a terrible experience at Fireside. I don't typically review a place if I've only dined once and did not enjoy my meal, but my experience at Fireside was was so terrible I felt so compelled to share it with others. Cliff notes version: I just found the quality of their food and customer service to be appalling. The slow and unapologetic service did not help. I will note that I wasn't expecting it to have an amazing dining experience as it is a casino restaurant after all but even with the bar set low they manage to disappoint me. Longer story: My boyfriend and I decided to come here after looking at the menu online for breakfast. It was Monday morning and there was a 15 minute wait- which they quoted accurately. Upon sitting down, it was obvious they were under staffed and had only two servers working along with the hostess/manager. Our server seemed overwhelmed as he tried to get us to order quickly- no big deal since I've been in the industry and totally get it when you're slammed with tables. We decided on the eggs Benedict and their standard breakfast with a large pancake instead of toast. Our meals came out after a very long wait. I'm talking an abnormally long wait. My meal was meh- pancake was over done, breakfast potatoes were undercooked, bacon was salty and cold. Needless to say, at this point I was starving and just decided to eat my food instead of starve. My boyfriend on the other hand has the misfortune of not knowing their kitchen staff does NOT know how to poach an egg correctly. The first time his benedict came out, the eggs were cooked all the way through. He asked to have them correct it (to be properly poached) along with both of our undercooked potatoes to be properly cooked. Our sever (simmon?) was happily to oblige. He said it would be 5 minutes. 7 minutes later he said it'd be out in a few minutes... and then it eventually came out about 10 mins.... and it happened again. The eggs were overcooked (hard poached I guess you would call it?) and the potatoes looked the exact same- undercooked. At this point, we decided to speak to a manager because it was just frustrating to continue to ask for changes (not hard ones I will say for the kitchen staff to make) and get food that was incorrectly prepared/cooked. I will note that before the manager came over, we overheard her getting yelled at by another customer complaining about her waffle not having berries and cream on it. Given that, my boyfriend tried to be respectful when he spoke to the manager. She did end up comping his meal and his Bloody Mary (which he said was good) but they did charged my meal full price even though I barely finished it nor never touched the undercooked potatoes. It is what it is. Just a warning for those looking at possibly dining here. Service wasn't good. Staff was disorganized and inattentive. And the prices just don't justify the quality of food- not to mention that the kitchen staff is having issues with making dishes well and quickly. read more

Chef Mike went above and beyond tonight! So Last night we got in Blackhawk and tried Fireside Kitchen. The food was great for takeout but our service was not. We ended up getting a wrong order of wings which my Fiancé hated flavor wise. Rather than calling for a refund we can back tonight to give another chance and see how it went. We explained our previous night experience to Chef Mike, he then proceeded to comp our meal for the night due to the last night. His service alone made up for last night. Our server tonight was outstanding as well! Sorry as we forgot the name but made sure she was taken care of. First time here! Very impressed w/ the atmosphere, price & limited menu. One would say it's not a large menu and it is not. I'm hear to gamble not sit all night at a restaurant. I ordered the Spicy chicken sandwich. It's sweet & spicy but not overwhelming w/ heat. This has chicken thighs which is dark meat and good 2 or 3 thighs perfectly crispy and just enough sauce. It's a BIG sandwich! Pro tip: get the bread not toasted. My husband ordered the burger. Not very thick Pattie's but 2 thinner ones seasoned great. This is a nice restaurant in the Ameristar casino. The decor is nice and welcoming. However I was disappointed in the service and the food was just ok. The hostess was not the most welcoming individual and our server, Zach, wouldn't say anything unless we said something first. Even then he was not that personable. I ordered the Cobb salad which was pretty good. They add crunchy potato strings to it and it's a nice addition. My husband ordered the chicken sandwich and was not impressed with it. Me and my cousin both got taco salads witch they for some reason put lemon coriander vinaigrette on and and the beef was not seasoned well. The spinach artichoke dip comes with a hefty layer of just mozzarella cheese on top, the spinach had a nasty after taste (old spinach?), and the chips were hella greasy. Hot Spot This is a very warm and comfy spot to grab a bite. Fireside Kitchen certainly lives up to its name. You are immediately treated with a large, inviting fireplace upon entering. I ordered bbq ribs with a side salad Onion rings and coleslaw Ribs had way too much sweet sauce just poured over them, I ordered a rack of ribs and received two half racks one was cooked long enough to be tender and the other was very tough. The onion rings were so thin with a lot of batter, not the way I prefer them. The coleslaw had way too much mayo on it, they did advertise it as creamy but it was not edible. The side salad was lettuce and a few shavings of carrots and a slice of cucumber I was hoping for a tomato because the salad was listed as a garden salad. I hate to be so rough on these restaurants because I know they are short staffed. But the food is so weak I wish I was home to just get anything made with quality. Maybe it's just our culture now. We had an unfortunate experience here and in the end did not even get dinner. So, I can't really comment on the food, itself. There was a 20 minute wait to be seated, so we were given a pager and strolled around the casino until the little thing began to buzz. Once we made our way back, we were immediately seated. Since the place was rather crowded, we put in our dinner order right away. We waited and watched other tables be seated. 10 minutes went by, some nearby tables received their meals. Another 15 minutes went by and tables seated after us where getting food. We watched our waiter walk back and forth. At the 40 minute mark, our waiter strolled over and said, "Let me see where your food is at". He comes back and tells us in a nonchalant manner, "Oh, looks like the ticket never printed. Your order wasn't placed. Sorry about that." So an hour later we were still without food and hungry, so we got up and left. We got right in, no wait. All the staff was extremely nice. The ambiance was great. I had the rosemary pork chop and it was perfect. The mashed potatoes and grilled carrots were beyond delicious. The prices were reasonable also. The only down thing is that the menu is not that big. By far the worst restaurant experience I've had in a long time...perhaps ever. On the positive side we were able to be seated right away. That's where the good experience ended. We ordered an appetizer right away and it took well over 30 minutes to come out. When we reminded our waitress of the ordered she said they only had three people working the kitchen and it wasn't her fault. Great. Slow service is one thing, but then the food came out....almost an hour in. Out of six of us, only two of the orders were completely correct. I sent mine back because I ordered a chicken cannoli. The menu clearly stated it came with grilled chicken breast and instead they put two chicken wings on top. What the...? Others order burgers with no onion, but it came out with onion melted into the cheese. Two burgers came out with no cheese when they were supposed to have aged cheddar. Most of my gambling action goes here, thus I rack up a decent amount of comp points. I've ate two meals here and both have been far from great and are typically pretty lousy. About two months ago, I had one of the worst Cuban sandwiches I've had in my life. The bread wasn't toasted and the ingredients weren't mixed well. There was no mustard on the top half of the sandwich and tons of mustard on the bottom. After this experience, I decided to use only the buffet, deil, and room service (only for breakfast, the room service menu is a condensed version of what's available at the Fireside). Fast forward to two months later and I decided to give it another chance. This time I ordered a burger with pepperjack cheese. The menu states that sandwiches are served with lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle. I declined the lettuce and tomato, figuring I'd get some onion and a pickle spear on the side. I was only half right. I got a few rings of red onion on the burger, but the bottom was covered in the "smokey burger sauce" and a bunch of chopped up pickles. This saturated the bottom part of the bun and made it inedible. The only highlight was the milkshake. Thank goodness the meal was free; I feel bad for people who actually drop money in here. Save that money and use it at another outlet--even the deli prepares better food then what goes on in here. read more

Ok where do I start! My family and I stood at the hostess booth waiting for someone to seat us along with a few other people. After about 10 minutes someone finally showed up. I asked the host if we could have a booth. He said sure! He lead us to a table with no mention of the booth. Oh well, not a biggie. We looked the menu and I decided on the half chicken dinner served with mashed potatoes and Dijon greens I believe. My daughter ordered the pasta dish that she enjoyed. My husband ordered a chicken adobo sandwich that he only ate half of. My chicken had either been in a warming oven for too long or under a lamp because it was dry dry dry! A piece of the breast had broken off and looked like jerky. The consistency of the mashed potatoes was inexcusable! A lumpy, dry mass of potato and skin sat next to wilted Spinach leaves that was thrown haphazardly on my plate. I sent it back for a Caesar salad that was just blah. As the choices are limited within the hotel, we did find the food satisfying at the Fireside Kitchen. They do have a limited menu and highly recommend they add some other options. Beyond disappointing. This restaurant seems to be the anchor restaurant at Ameristar. All other restaurants are only open Thursday-Sunday from 4pm-11pm. With that said, I was hoping for the best, but was left hungry and disappointed. My first time here, my husband and I came for breakfast. We waited for about 30 minutes to be seated. We ordered relatively quickly, but waited another 45 minutes for our food. I had order scrambled eggs, sausage with potatoes and a side of white toast. My husband ordered corned beef with potatoes. My food came, but I got burnt bacon instead with scrambled eggs that had to have come from a carton. My husbands food came as he ordered but with a 1/2 cup of oil slathered all over it. We just ate the toast. Second time there, I ordered two burgers and fries to go. It was an early lunch and they weren't busy, but yet I still waited 40 minutes for my order. I supposed my to-go order was done quickly, because it was nice and soggy by the time I got it. Third time we went for dinner. Again, waited for 45 minutes for two chicken Parmesan over spaghetti noodles. Im guessing the chicken had to have been burnt on purpose to give the marinara sauce flavor. It did come with one carrot and one asparagus so I guess that makes up for it? I'm not sure at this point. I really wanted to enjoy this restaurant, but they seemed confused as it is. The waiter/waitress dress in a Jersey type top with jeans while management dress in a suit and buss boys & the hostess dress in a nice button down shirt with slacks. I know this is a casino restaurant so I wasn't expecting anything great, but if you're going to charge $16 for a salad, it should be entrée sized. There was maybe a cup and a half of lettuce. On calculating the calories for said salad it was under 200 calories (with a small portion of the dressing included) which is pretty sad. First time trying this restaurant in the Ameristar. We arrived for breakfast at 8 AM and the restaurant opens at 7 AM. Our coffee tasted really bad and the waitress said it's probably from the shift prior. They don't have graveyard shift so that must mean from last night. Bacon was raw potatoes are pre-cooked and were cold not even held to room temp. The waitress was horrible and the manager on duty. This Sunday morning was not very helpful either. the Lodge casino has much better food at their Buffay and their restaurants. Hungry gamblers be ware. read more
