As buffets go, nowadays, this is definitely one of the better options. I've read a lot of comments about the food being bad, moldy, or tasteless, and that was not our experience at all. The service was fast for removing our plates, and in some cases, maybe even a little too fast! The food is refilled quickly, and the fresher options are out there. It is true you only get one serving of crab and lobster but that is unfortunately just the way things are now with buffets. It is not unique to a specific buffet. Very disappointed. We always like to try a nice buffet for our anniversary each year if we are not on a tip. Monarch Buffet was recommended as the best in Black Hawk, so we decided to go there for our 42ed anniversary. We used the valet parking that was nice and went directly to the buffet to eat. The wait was about 15 minutes, and we were seated close to all the food that was nice. My wife enjoys lobster so after having some salad we got in line at the buffet to get our food. We were very disappointed in the lobster tails, cut in half, not much to eat and not what we expected. We enjoyed the crab legs but were a little bit soft and hard to split and eat but, very tasty. We ordered a bottle of white wine, but when the waiter brought it to our table, he had difficulty getting the cork out of the bottle. I suggested he get some help. When he went for help, i used the corkscrew and opened the bottle. I know he was just a waiter but tried very hard to get the cork out of the bottle. The bottle of wine was only $35, but the waiter kept come back to our table asking me to pay for the bottle of wine. I told him I would pay for it at the end of our dinner, but he continued to ask, so after about 6 requests I paid him and told him I would add his tip at the end of the end of the dinner. Funny he left and he never returned leaving dirty plates on the table. the service was not what I expected, dirty plates sat on our table and had to ask that they were removed. We did enjoy some of the food on the buffet, but when I went to get some prime rib, they were out but were cooking more of it. Someone came to our table later and offer use some well-done prime rib, who eat well-done prime rib... later the waiter came and told us they would be closing the buffet in 15 minutes, which was a big surprise. We were only about 2/3 done with eating, had wine still left in the bottle. When i went back to the buffet I could see they were starting to put things away. I came back to our table, and I told my wife she needed to get more food if she wanted it. We have taken many of cruises and Las Vegas trips, but this was very surprising to me. I went to get some deserts, but all of them had been removed and they did not offer to get me one for me. Looked like they were closing up to go home. I thought management must be tuff of them if they don't do this. We enjoy going out to eat and travel a lot in our retirement and can afford what we desire. The older lady assisting customers could benefit from improving her customer service approach. Her tone and manner of speaking came across as unwelcoming and unprofessional, which was not what we expected from a four-star hotel and casino resort. The price is a bit steep at ~$60/person for dinner on the weekends, but the quality and variety of food is decent for the price. First off, the queen of the buffet, or any buffet in my opinion, are the lobster tail and snow crab. When you pay, 2 redemption coupons are handed per person; one for a lobster tail and one for 2 snow crab clusters. Although this may seem like it is not much, it really is plenty of food unless the plan is to only eat lobster and snow crab (please refer to attached picture). The pho station is ok and the prime rib was very salty, but other than those two, everything else tasted great. Service is top notch. My fiancé and I have a tradition to go to The Buffet fot his birthday, we've been three times so far. After last night though, I'm not sure if we're going to keep this tradition because it was the first time we were both disappointed. The experience and food were both so bad, I'm having a hard time coming up with positives. Usually we get more than our money's worth with the crab, lobster and steak options, but they didn't load it up like they normally do and most of the self serve options were so old/stale that we both ended up sick. It was so busy, the lines were ridiculously long and considering how busy it was, you'd think they could drop the price, they're basically robbing people. Our waiter, Jay was so bad that I didn't feel the need to leave him a pity tip, especially when we saw him stealing a tip from a table that wasn't in his section. Getting a drink refill was so hard despite the man walking around the table like we were a merry-go-round, I felt how little he actually cared about his job. You're given a ticket for a crab cluster & lobster tail to claim at the counter! I felt very satisfied by the amount they gave you for the one-time redemption, but if you're looking for an all-you-can-eat crab buffet, this isn't the spot. We were passing through Black Hawk on our route from Estes Park to Breckenridge and originally thought about dining at one of the restaurants in Breckenridge. However, we ultimately decided to stop by one of the casinos for food, as we were getting really hungry. We parked at Monarch Casino and discovered they had a buffet, so we went straight to check the price. Lunch on weekdays was priced at $28.99, and we thought it was a great deal because we usually pay twice as much for a brunch buffet in Vegas. The buffet had more variety of food than I anticipated. My favorites were the grilled NY steak, pork chop, blackened salmon, and Italian seafood with clams and mussels (I forgot the name). The quality of the food definitely reflected the price, and it was a very satisfying meal. Aside from the good parts, I also wanted pho from the pho station, but the soup was not boiling for several minutes, so I ended up giving up on it. I'm surprised there are so many negative reviews at The Buffet. I've been here twice and every time I go to Monarch, this is my preferred choice of meals since it is easy to accommodate for the people in my group. Let's start with the star of the show: the crab legs and lobster tail. They have this cool system where you get tickets for a limited number of seafood items (crab legs and lobster). It's actually pretty fresh and so delicious with some fresh butter that they have on the side. It can get messy but they have all the necessary tools for you to open your crab legs with ease and the staff is pretty quick to collect buckets and trash. The service was fantastic. The staff were always around, super helpful, and really friendly. They made sure our plates were never empty and were quick with refills and extra napkins for those messy crab legs. Next up, another highlight is the the pho bar. Now, I'm a bit of a pho enthusiast, and while this wasn't the most authentic bowl I've ever had, it was still pretty delicious. The broth was flavorful, and it had all the fixings. It was a nice, warm comfort food option amidst the sea of choices. Speaking of choices, the variety of food was impressive. From prime rib to a pasta bar and a whole array of desserts, there was something for everyone. The prime rib was juicy and tender, a real treat. I have been disappointed by any number of casino buffets in Vegas, Reno, WA, and OR. We were so relieved that was not the case in Black Hawk! A little spendy but it's not like you'll go away hungry. Lobster and crab portion you get in line for was pretty smart to keep them available for everyone, especially because there's no ocean anywhere in sight. Loved the prime rib and kielbasa that has no limit, both were cooked supremely well. Food servers were tired by the end of the night when we came in with the last round, but if you smiled and treated them nicely they were great. Hotel guests and premium members get seated first but that makes sense, just come in early, there's plenty of seating. Cheery atmosphere and a wide selection of well maintained delicious food. No gross conditions or stale trays and the table service was outstanding. I'm disappointed I can't remember the name of our waitress but her husband is from Texas and she was a delight! We enjoy gaming at the Monarch and were excited to see that they offer an all-you-can-eat buffet. Not only a buffet but one that has lobster and crab legs! We were ther easter Sunday and it was terrible. We paid 140.00+ god what a racket. So the place is clean and that was the nicest thing I can say. Food that should be hot was cold. There were no tortillas in the Mexican area just hard shells and stale chips. The lobster was a disaster I didn't even finish it. Add to this that the lamb chops were under seasoned and cold the vegetables were cold the best offerings were the mash potatoes and the cold shrimp the shrimp were well cleaned and held on ice keeping them fresh. Desert was prefrozen sysco products as I imagine most of the food provided was. The prime rib was cold and tough. I can't express how rude these people were with exception of Omar our server for soda and water. I don't drink alcohol but he was so kind. Like ibsaid the place was clean and well decorated. But when you're paying 140.00 plus you expect your food to be flavored hot and edible. This was absolutely not the case and I would never ever recommend this place to anyone. I always come on the weekends for brunch and they have everything you can dream of at a breakfast buffet - eggs, omelets, bacon/sausage, waffles, French toast, pancakes, biscuits and gravy (so dang good) huge dessert bar (woah), Mexican breakfast, steak (woah! So good with eggs), salad bar, all types of drinks. I don't eat seafood but there known for the lobster and there's a ton of other types of food including Mexican, Chinese and Vietnamese (pho) It's around $65/person and 10000% worth it! I see a lot of negative reviews on this place and I can only figure out two reasons why.. 1. The price, the place is not cheap to go to. 2. Perhaps their experience was significantly different than mine or maybe they've made improvements in recent times. I'll start off by saying this, I love crab and I've tried many all you can eat crab buffets in my time. As buffets go I was significantly impressed with this place. Obviously you need to come hungry but the crab itself is high quality snow crab. For steamed snow crab or lobster tail you will need a ticket & they give each person 2 tickets. You can have as much as you want of a garlic flavored snow crab and a Cajon flavored- no ticket necessary. The place also has a lot of other options, Pho, salad bar, Mexican, Italian, American, and many more. They also offered elk sausage which was really good. Their pepper steak can be grilled to however you want it & I enjoyed it. I also thought the prime rib was pretty good and various shrimp was pretty good as well. It's a big space, plenty of room & the service was pretty good as well- our waiter refilled me 3x. All in all I would come back, I don't understand all the negative reviews, I liked this place!! My wife who likes crab but doesn't love it like me would rate the place a 4 star; she thinks the place should cost about $40 not $60 per person. All that said, I would recommend it and I would come back. Since the Buffet at the Monarch Casino Resort remodeled, the dinner there became $53.99 in the weekdays, and $58.99 during weekend, making it somewhat cost inhibitive as a family destination. Comparatively the weekday lunch there at $28.99 is not affordable with the same upscale ambience and quite a lot of selections, including boiled lobster, crab legs and mussels, as well as freshly prepared pho, spaghetti and steaks. Also, it is not as busy during the weekday and dinning experience is much nicer. For people who happen to be here during the weekdays. The Buffet is at the third floor of the casino, guests under 21 need to be accompanied by someone over 21. read more

The Monarch casino is the Vegas of Blackhawk but The Buffet needs an overhaul. I just finished eating dinner there tonight and I could not finish my food due to the quality and poor taste. The diced beets at the salad bar tasted like dirt and they were stale. The cheese tamales were undercooked. The cheese sticks tasted like melted wax. The Coke Zero was the best part of this meal. Not even halfway through the meal and I had horrible stomach pain. I would advise to eat at Lucille Malone's at the Gilpin over this any day or go to the Chop House. read more

So "The Buffet " at the Monarch is finally open!! Now I always enjoy a good Buffet and I must say this one was really good. Although it's $43.99 per person with a additional optional charge of $9.99 to add a Lobster tail and cluster of snow crab legs it was worth it. We ate around 11 so I'm not sure how much the menu changes on the weekend or during the week but I did ask an employee how much different it was after 4, which is usually the changeover period except on weekend and he said it's pretty much the same except they add a few more pasta dishes. They offer a wide variety of choices and as far as I'm concerned something for everyone. These are just a few types of choices I noticed, breakfast, omelets, eggs, sausage/bacon. Italian, including wood fired single pizzas..Chinese/Japanese (Asian cuisine) Mexican, from Tamales, enchiladas, and other items. Seafood, salad bar . Mongolian BBQ , and yes a dessert bar. I can't say that of the items I indulged in I didn't have a bad thing to say about it . I didn't mind the price and our attendant was always available and courteous. So if you should be up at "The Hill" trying your luck and want a good meal with a lot of options give this establishment a try. The Buffet at Monarch was easy to find and the hotel has free parking. It's located towards the middle of that casino floor , take the elevator upstairs and you will see it. Just follow the signs. I arrived around dinner (4pm opening time) I arrived 5 minutes before to get a spot in line , on a weekday it didn't seem that busy at that time. The line to pay went quickly. Paid around $50(per person) lunch was $28 , comes with soda, coffee, tea. They have a menu at the table if you want to pay for additional alcoholic beverages. The cashier will give you a ticket for 1 lobster tail and 1 crab leg order , this comes with your meal. Pay for additional servings of that. However, the tails are very small. They take you to your seat and take your beverage order. Then like any buffet , you go to the different areas of what you want. I didn't get to try the pasta station or wok station. There was just too much for me to try in one visit. The desserts were subpar , very underwhelming to me. I tried a cherry crumb bar and ate some Cotton Candy, I enjoyed them both! The music playing in the casino and restaurant was 80's pop rock and I had to laugh at that , I think it was just out of place. I would come back again for sure though. Came for the lunch buffet at 11am in the middle of the week. For $30 this is an awesome value I felt. They had a ton to choose from for it being lunch. No Lobster or crab during lunch, but the prime rib and shrimp are available. All the food is very high quality. Please know that if you're going to complain, you should at least tell someone, and they will take care of it. It would also be nice to know which time you chose, because they have several different serving times (lunch, dinner, weekend brunch). I have eaten at the best buffets in Vegas like the Bellagio and the Wynn and will say this does rival in comparison as far as quality. Cloth napkins, attentive wait staff. I did feel like I was eating in fine dining establishment. I saw several managers walking around, inspecting each food station with care.
