Be careful eating this fruit dish. The grapes are moldy.

The grapes were moldy and old . Mixed with yogurt. We ate some and report to the waitress because we don't want more people to get sick. Kitchen manager came and take a look. That's it. No apologies nothing.

Very fresh food. Very clean. Staff is very fast service. No line about an hour after opening

We were passing through Black Hawk on our route from Estes Park to Breckenridge and originally thought about dining at one of the restaurants in Breckenridge. However, we ultimately decided to stop by one of the casinos for food, as we were getting really hungry. We parked at Monarch Casino and discovered they had a buffet, so we went straight to check the price. Lunch on weekdays was priced at $28.99, and we thought it was a great deal because we usually pay twice as much for a brunch buffet in Vegas. The buffet had more variety of food than I anticipated. My favorites were the grilled NY steak, pork chop, blackened salmon, and Italian seafood with clams and mussels (I forgot the name). The quality of the food definitely reflected the price, and it was a very satisfying meal. Aside from the good parts, I also wanted pho from the pho station, but the soup was not boiling for several minutes, so I ended up giving up on it. Additionally, our server didn't check on us during the remainder of our meal, so I had to ask someone else for an additional drink order. Overall, it was a good dining experience.

I'm surprised there are so many negative reviews at The Buffet. I've been here twice and every time I go to Monarch, this is my preferred choice of meals since it is easy to accommodate for the people in my group. Let's start with the star of the show: the crab legs and lobster tail. They have this cool system where you get tickets for a limited number of seafood items (crab legs and lobster). It's actually pretty fresh and so delicious with some fresh butter that they have on the side. It can get messy but they have all the necessary tools for you to open your crab legs with ease and the staff is pretty quick to collect buckets and trash. The service was fantastic. The staff were always around, super helpful, and really friendly. They made sure our plates were never empty and were quick with refills and extra napkins for those messy crab legs. Next up, another highlight is the the pho bar. Now, I'm a bit of a pho enthusiast, and while this wasn't the most authentic bowl I've ever had, it was still pretty delicious. The broth was flavorful, and it had all the fixings. It was a nice, warm comfort food option amidst the sea of choices. Speaking of choices, the variety of food was impressive. From prime rib to a pasta bar and a whole array of desserts, there was something for everyone. The prime rib was juicy and tender, a real treat. The pasta bar and some of the other items were a bit hit-or-miss, but hey, that's part of the buffet adventure, right? The desserts were a highlight and it was nice to have so many different options.

Great service! The servers busted their buns to take care of you. I did notice that people didn't seem to leave tips. Sad! The buffet does a great job of having a variety of good food. Is it outstanding? No, but it's very good! Is it expensive? Yes, so plan on around $59.00 each. It's nice when you get coupons in the mail! Keep up the great work! We will be back!

    I love their seafood dishes

We are going to beaver creek and stop by there buffer restaurant! Was great food and wonderful service. Prices are little higher but food was amazing our family are fully enjoyed. Specially my daughter loves their steak and dessert & cotton candy!!!

We enjoy gaming at the Monarch and were excited to see that they offer an all-you-can-eat buffet. Not only a buffet but one that has lobster and crab legs! This buffet will run you around $60 a person, but if you gamble here regularly, you will get a complimentary buffet added to your game card every once in a while, which is a nice perk. The line can get ridiculously long, but if you are patient it is well worth it. You pay right away before entering and are given a ticket for crab legs and a ticket for a lobster tail. They have you escorted to a table and a waiter takes your drink order. They have all of the tables really nicely spaced out so even though there are lots of people there, it does not feel overly crowded. The restaurant is nice and does not feel like a casino buffet. Sodas and coffee are included in the price, but alcohol is extra. At the buffet, you have a wide variety of various cuisines: Asian - * Made-to-order pho * garlic eggplant *eggrolls * beef and vegetables * make-your-own poke bowl with tuna or salmon * Asian style ribs * Rice Mexican - * Tacos *Nachos *Chips and salsa *Guacamole Italian - *Charcuterie board with various Italian meats and cheeses *Pizza *Pastas Southern - * Fried Chicken * Mashed potatoes and gravy * Baked Chicken * Corn * Sweet potatoes * Pot Roast * Ribs They offer an extensive salad bar with every salad dressing imaginable, lots of vegetables to top your salad with, premade pasta salads, fruit salads, lots of fresh fruit, smoked salmon with capers, smoked trout, etc. Seafood and Red Meat - * fried shrimp * crab legs * lobster tail * Prime Rib * Made-to-order steak Desserts - * Cotton Candy * Gelato * Soft serve ice cream * Cobbers * Pie * Cake * Cheesecake * Chocolate Fountain Those lists are just SOME of the things the buffet offers! It is the best buffet I have ever been to in terms of fresh food, tons of variety, and overall quality.

We thought the buffet here was worth it if you are hungry! Some things were too salty. A bit pricey.

    Casey D.

Yuck This was a bad experience. $50 per person, but not a lot of selection to show for it. There was a terrible smell in there air - like bad fried fish. The rolls were cold and not buttered. If I had to guess, they came straight out of Sam's Club value pack. The dessert went poorly, too. Stale brownies and cookies. The soft serve machine didn't work. The guy behind the counter was entirely disinterested in what I asked for. The service was slow all at every end.

Chicken and shrimp pho, so good.

I went on a fairly busy Saturday night, hoping that would lead to a hot, fresh, well replenished experience. It didn't really result in that, sadly. Customer service was pleasant. The chefs were friendly and helpful and our server was great. I thought the iced tea and coffee were both delicious. Taco meat was quite tasty and I appreciated the cookies on the dessert bar were held at a warm temperature. Some things weren't refilled ever during our leisurely visit of 1 1/2 hours: Certain desserts, sides, salsas and accoutrements like chips at the Mexican bar. Each station seemed pretty lacking on variety. Some offerings were kind of lukewarm, like the fried shrimp and mashed potatoes. Would I return? Definitely not during a peak priced meal time. Maybe during lunch or something while visiting the casino. I love variety so I love buffets, even though quality does often lack. However, if you have visited buffets off and on, you learn that some have fresher, hotter, well stocked offerings and others don't. This one wasn't terrible but was pretty meh and disappointing over all. Also a note to this buffet's management. Wynn's buffet in Las Vegas is only $39.99 for a Saturday night. Yours was 34.99. Wynn also didn't have the widest variety but had quite a bit more than yours as well as fresher and gourmet offerings for just $5 more. I feel strongly that you could do better for this price point and I'm rooting for improvements!

Some pros and cons from our stay (room 1014): PROS: - the promo included lowest room rate and $20 dining credit per day. A genuinely good deal for the price - the restaurant offers on site are pretty decent, varied, and reasonably priced for BH - staff was 50/50. Literally half were welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly, while the other half was borderline rude or incompetent - the amenities were a nice perk, including a rooftop pool, and two hot tubs (1 indoor 1 outdoor) - the room and bathroom were very spacious with both a shower AND a garden tub - there were public restrooms available in the hallway - the casino floor feels spacious and there is a good variety of slot machines and table games CONS: - Communication in general is very lacking: When we walked into our room there was no literature to showcase on site dining options, WiFi password, or amenities' hours/logistics. The room service menu is not available in the Penn app nor is much information provided about one's stay. We finally found a brochure at the front desk when we went to inquire about where to find a "do not disturb" hang tag (the app live chat was useless for any room information). Room service is upon request only, that info is also not available unless asking a front desk attendant. I requested a Penn play card for gambling, the attendant did not explain how to use it, so it took us two days to realize the card must be inserted in the slots the entire time you play to track usage. You can remove it only AFTER you cash out. - It's extremely frustrating to use the Penn play cards at the machines. We had to constantly try again and again as most readers do not see a card has been inserted. Some machines we completely gave up on... - The room was TIRED (both beds had mattresses which sunk from damage/overuse, both headboards had peeling faux leather behind the pillows, there was random scotch tape on the walls and some holes/dings, the toilet's door jam was coming loose from the wall, bathroom was not extremely clean (heavy dust coating on baseboards, hair on bathroom counter, etc) - Of of 6 elevators to the tower: 4 had broken LCD screens (making it difficult to determine at which level the car would stop), 2 made very concerning cable car noises (we begun avoiding them), all 6 were unsecured (guest key card access on cars was disabled; letting ANY casino patrons access the room floors) - the pool deck has posted adults only hours (daily 7-11pm) however, despite various staff walk through a dozen children were still splashing about at 8:30pm on Friday night - the vending machine on the pool deck was out of service and drinks ordered poolside through the QR code available on tables was not delivered to the pool deck (despite note of location in order) - the ice machine on floor 10 was out of order and no microwave was available in the rooms (or in the vending room) making it impossible to get takeout if one got tired of in house options. A microwave in the vending room would be a great addition - ambient music in the casino was great mid-week throughout until on Friday night at around 8pm it was set to blast and was along with the ambient slots noise it was no longer enjoyable. We left the floor shortly after - wait staff on the casino floor was scarce both on weekdays and weekends. It didn't seem they were circulating much, and when they did come by, they often skipped us (we are not big drinkers, so it was fine for us, but it left us feeling un-welcomed). Interestingly enough, for both drinks I ordered during my stay (handed a $5 bill for tip) I was asked if I wanted any change back :-/ - the floral scent that's pumped through the AC units on the casino floor can quickly become overwhelming and a bit nauseating. I understand casinos do this to cover up odors and have a 'signature scent' however a lighter less floral aroma may be a better choice Overall a good value for us (over low-occupancy days and with a good promotion) and a change of pace for a fun few days away from the hustle and bustle of city living.

A few staff members even mentioned that other guests had experienced similar issues. My mother-in-law was visiting from Pittsburgh PA, and we had driven over an hour for the appointment, so it was really disappointing. He decided to have the lobster bisque, and unfortunately it immediately did not sit well with him. I tried it as well, and it tasted rancid. Being polite, he just pushed it to the side and did not say anything. Then the staff came over a few times asking about the bisque, then proceeded to comp it, which made us even more concerned. I'm a professional chef, and we do not serve anything that tastes or smells even remotely questionable, especially when it comes to seafood. He was ill for hours afterward (and into the next day). After tasting it myself, I could not stomach much more of our very expensive meal. My steak and French onion soup were fantastic in flavor, but I was not able to enjoy much of it, as I also had a nasty taste from the bisque and felt nauseous just from the smell alone. They did bring me a free birthday dessert, which I appreciate. However, I did not get to choose what I was eating. They brought out pumpkin cheesecake. To give credit- I'm sure it was chosen because it's a popular dish, but I personally do not like pumpkin at all. In fact, it makes me gag, frankly. I do however, love cheesecake and tried a bite to be polite, but I did not like it, let alone want it. I decided not to say anything about the dessert they chose for me, since I did not pay for it, and we were trying to get out of there due to not feeling great after the food served. I was disappointed even more at this point, as it would've been nice to at least be able to choose and enjoy my "celebration dessert", especially considering how much money we spent- even less the bisque. Not to mention how awful the experience was due to food poisoning. We will not be back, which is unfortunate considering how great our first experience was. This experience was awful enough to deter us from further visits....
