This was a decent Buffett that was overpriced and came out to $100 for two people. They were not anything special but I did enjoy the food. Service was alright and the Buffett had a good amount of selections. Probably wont be back but at least I could say I tried it out. read more

My review is on my dining experience at Centennial Buffet, which is located at Ameristar Casino Resort Spa in Black Hawk. It is roughly a fifty-minute drive from Denver. My friend and her husband frequent casinos often. They get various deals on hotel rooms and buffets. While I was visiting them in Denver, we went to Black Hawk to have dinner one evening. As you'd expect from a buffet, there are plenty of food options, so you don't get bored. My problem has always been getting my money's worth at a buffet. I have two plates of food and dessert, and I am in a food coma. My first plate was good. I eyed the mac and cheese right off the bat. I also got salmon, ribs, green beans, and a burrito. Everything was decent and yummy. I ordered some beef pho at one of the food stands where it is made in front of you. It took a good ten minutes to make. It wasn't good. The broth wasn't what you'd expect in pho. Salt was the only flavour that I got out out of it. The beef was tough. I recommend passing on it. I got a Nanaimo bar, and a cookies and cream item for dessert. The former was sweet, as expected. It was okay. I loved the cookies and cream dessert. I would get that. It's yummy! On the whole, it was great dining with friends. This buffet does not scream a must-go place if you are in Denver and want to drive a bit further for a buffet. Ok buffet. Not the best and definitely fairly lacking in variety and quality. Golden Corral has more entrée and side options. Buffet, 2 stars. Service 4 stars= 3 over all. I went on a fairly busy Saturday night, hoping that would lead to a hot, fresh, well replenished experience. It didn't really result in that, sadly. Customer service was pleasant. The chefs were friendly and helpful and our server was great. I thought the iced tea and coffee were both delicious. Taco meat was quite tasty and I appreciated the cookies on the dessert bar were held at a warm temperature. Some things weren't refilled ever during our leisurely visit of 1 1/2 hours: Certain desserts, sides, salsas and accoutrements like chips at the Mexican bar. Each station seemed pretty lacking on variety. Some offerings were kind of lukewarm, like the fried shrimp and mashed potatoes. Would I return? Definitely not during a peak priced meal time. Maybe during lunch or something while visiting the casino. I love variety so I love buffets, even though quality does often lack. However, if you have visited buffets off and on, you learn that some have fresher, hotter, well stocked offerings and others don't. This one wasn't terrible but was pretty meh and disappointing over all. Also a note to this buffet's management. Wynn's buffet in Las Vegas is only $39.99 for a Saturday night. Yours was 34.99. Wynn also didn't have the widest variety but had quite a bit more than yours as well as fresher and gourmet offerings for just $5 more. Most of the options that were on the buffet were either not marked or marked incorrectly. There were alot of breakfast items and it was lunch time. Except for the salad bar there was not a green vegetable in sight. The salad bar was very limited on what was offered to add to your lettuce and there was no Italian or vinaigrette dressing. Just 4 really thick salad dressings. It cost us $125 for 3 people. So not worth it. I would definitely not recommend this place. It has really gone downhill. read more

We ended up at Centennial Buffet after a disastrous experience at the Fireside Kitchen. The manager comped us two free buffets, which included the crab leg add on. When going to a buffet, my expectations are always set a little low. Mass producing that quantity of food is not easy. But, I must say, I was pleasantly surprised with the buffet options and food quality. The food was warm, fresh and tasty. There were many vegetarian options and non-vegetarian choices. All types of meats from chicken, fish, to beef. The selections even included ethnic options such as Chinese and Mexican to BBQ, American, even a Pho station. The deserts were very tasty too. Granted we didn't pay the $60 price tag associated with this meal, but we were very happy with our experience. read more

YES for the FRIDAY evening of March 23rd 2012, we, the ladies and I opt for to eat here AGAIN, just for the KING CRAB LEGS, to name a few for ($21.99) each person. For that amount indeed its worth just to eat those KING CRAB LEGS. We decide to have an early DINNER. Time was @ 16:30hrs ish. This is a solid buffet, but it matters very much what you want and when you go. The Sunday morning champagne buffet is my favorite as it includes unlimited champagne and champagne-based drinks in addition to food and it is only $20 per person. However, some nights there is an all you can eat crab leg buffet that I do not prefer as I don't want unlimited crab enough to pay almost $40 per person. It just depends what you want. I do find the Centennial to have better quality food and service than the other buffets in the area that I have tried up to this point. They also have better healthy options and the weekday lunch buffet looks to be a great deal, if you happen to be around for it. Outwardly the place is very clean and the food relatively fresh for a casino buffet. If you are in the area looking for a meal, I'd give this place preference, especially on Sunday mornings. read more

Had some great experiences over the past 5 years dining here - Staff is great, kind of place that has your drink filled before you ask, and your plates cleared right away as you indulge in gluttony. Sadly the quality has been progressively worse over time, I keep coming back believing things will change, and keep being disappointed. I will not be returning. Prices have been rising steadily and now the weekend buffet is $34......used to be $26 just a few years ago. I would gladly pay that kind of money if the food was good, but it's not. Dinning today for Sunday brunch left much room for improvement. Several dishes were not even warm, and the egg quische was actually cold.....I prefer my eggs at least heated. There used to be an abundance of seafood, now the past times I've been for brunch there was farm raised salmon, and shrimp and grits (actually grits and shrimp) as there were a few popcorn sized shrimp in a bowl of grits. There seemed to be lox and peel and eat shrimp, however after dining for an hour, they were never refilled, and I'm only guessing as the sign used to label all the food was never put up. A fitting metaphor for the restaurant, everything that is needed to be great is there- great servers, clean restaurant, and beautiful location, but the details like serving hot food or putting a label on the food you serve, does not happen. read more

Dessert first: If I was rating just the dessert bar I'd give it four. The desserts were yummy. I was impressed the creme brulee had the hard sugar crack on top (went to a fancy pants buffet in Vegas and it's creme brulee just had soggy syrup!). Always love a good build your own ice cream sundae bar. A fantastic way to end the meal. And the rest: We went midweek around 2PM and it was not busy at all, easy to get a seat. The waitress was friendly and quickly filled drinks. There was quite a selection of items to choose from. About 75% were pretty decent and about a quarter I didnt care for. My favorites included mashed potatoes, sesame chicken, and surprisingly, the prime rib was pretty good. I didn't care much for the mac and cheese bar, great idea, but the sauces were just okay. Also the "soft" pretzels were hard. :/ Overall, for the price-$13.99 we would probably visit again---Ill just steer clear of the weird cheese sauce next time and I'll save lots more room for dessert!!! read more

It's hard to get your expectations set too high when you are in a casino looking for a great meal, however when you see a price tag of $34 you must assume it's somewhat warranted. Don't you? On our recent visit we were wowed by the vast selection of food. From Asian to Cajun to traditional cuts of meat and crab. That's why you're here, right!?... the crab. The selection is great, I love selection. Problem is when you try to do to many things you end up doing none of them well. There was not a single item I tried and said "Man, that's great I'm going to go get more." Nothing was terrible either. Just mediocre, everything. Including the crab. The staff was extremely nice and helpful as they ran the dated dining room. The place was clean but felt like an old folk's cafeteria. Never the less we filled our bellies and went on about our evening. Next time I'll probably eat before arriving or try one of the other nearby casinos. read more

We used to love coming to this buffet as a FAMILY! My son just turned 18 and chose to return to the Centennial Buffet to celebrate his birthday. We all (5) made the hour drive to Ameristar, parked and went inside to be stopped immediately by the staff. I explained to them we were just here for the buffet. They said unfortunately we can't let you go downstairs because they are under 21. I said we just want the buffet! Can you escort us or is there another entrance? They said no, we're sorry! I said I was just on the website and there's nothing written stating you have to be 21 years old to eat at the buffet!!! My son was so disappointed and his friends were too. For a buffet, it ranks at the top. Right in the casino. Variety of foods, including American, Vietnamese, Mexican (tamales were very good, and had some bite to them), etc. the dessert options are numerous. Full cheese cake slices, fruit toppings, creme brûlée, carrot cake, ice cream, chocolate fundue, cookies, pies, banana bread, etc. A little pricey but overall, a good meal. read more

Let me say the food here is awesome! Great selection and almost everything tastes awesome. My favorites are the deep fried jalapeno crab leggies, Won-Tons, pizza and all of the wonderful desserts! This really would have been a 4 or 5 star review if they didn't take away the all you can eat crab legs!!! Now they charge $8 per pound! That is so lame, come on Ameristar, we know that you are making a ton of money off the games, can you at least be fair about the food?? Since the AMERISTAR has been acquired by the new ownership, all has diminished to the point of not coming back. The gaming is very suspect. Last time up, played roulette. How do you get three 0s to come up in 4 spins? That is mathematically almost impossible. That way the whole time. Hmmmnnn... The buffet was last experienced on Thanksgiving. Two thing have gone down substantially: selection and taste. For example, mexican section used to have guacamole, no more. Taste is way down, lack of correct spices and lots more fillers in the food. Saturday morning brunch, 9am- Yes, I'm definitely going with a 5 star rating! First off, I really wasn't in the mood for traditional eggs and toast and wanted more lunch type selections. They have a huge assortment for 9am in the morning. From Asian to Spanish, even the carving station was open. As buffets go the food is usually lukewarm, theirs was warm enough to keep me happy. I have enjoyed almost all the breakfast buffets in Blackhawk and Central City. This one is the most expensive but for selection and variety it really can't be beat. Our waitress was very attentive as I used about 6 plates. She checked on us so often it was almost too much. But that's okay, I tipped her well. For all you naysayers out there, I dare for you to post a better buffet (excluding price). You can't! What makes it great is really the diversity of options. Not many people come here to eat alone, so for your group, everybody's taste buds can be satisfied. I travel to Vegas about 3 times a year and have eaten at the best. This will match most, (not all) of Vegas finest. Great place in this small town to eat! But if you're just looking for some cereal and fruit, you will find it to be overpriced. My family of six (kids and adults) would come here several times a year. Main reason you ask? The all you can eat crab legs! The prime rib was great as well. Over the past couple of years, we've noticed a decline in the quality of food but again, the crab legs kept us coming back. Our 10 year old (who was 4 at the time) learned how to crack open crab legs here. Many great memories. We went there tonight, not thinking to look at the website (because after coming so often, why would I). We were turned away because of our kids. All patrons now must be 21 and over. Why? I had been looking forward to this buffet for a week, because who doesn't love a good buffet? We planned a trip to Blackhawk and picked our casino off of my excitement for the centennial buffet. Man, was I disappointed. While they had an extensive selection it was all mediocre at best. The desserts were the best part of the meal with the pizza coming in second. For $35 a person, one would hope to be at least a little impressed. I should've known not to try crab legs in Colorado, because they were horribly prepared. The meat was flavorless and rubbery and the pasta tasted like it had been sitting out for hours. This is definitely one of the better buffets in Black Hawk. I am never disappointed. My favorite is the champagne brunch on the weekends. 9 AM -2 PM brunch with, of course, complimentary champagne. Otherwise, you have to pay for wine and beer, which is a joke, since I can just go outside and get a free cocktail. Doesn't come with crab legs, but that's reserved for the dinner service, which is fine by me. The line can get pretty darn long at all times of the day, so be sure to get there early. Service is always great. I never expect much when I come for a buffet, but please be sure to tip your waitstaff. They are working just as hard as the people cooking the food and ringing up your order. And if you want another champagne/water/coffee/whatever the hell you're drinking, you better be nice. I like the layout of this buffet. They have the American side, Italian, Asian (which includes a pho station), etc. Shoot, getting hungry while I am writing this. Be right back. The second prime rib was super rare with a lot of fat. No consistency! The salad and dessert selections used to be better and higher quality. Dear Ameristar Management, WORST DINNING EXPERIENCE! If I could give a zero rating I would. Please train your employees better specifically Jonathan Ingar for stating wrong policies and using unprofessional tactics. Jonathan stated the following when he threaten to kick us out: 1. 45 minute time limit to eat at the Centennial Buffet. 2. The room we were in is a VIP room, apparently we were not suppose to be in there the whole time. 3. Threatening to call security because we overstayed the 45 minute time limit. 4. Stating that the other guest in the VIP paid more to be in there. When in fact they paid the same as us. I confirmed with them. 5. When asked to provide these policies in writing, Jonathan kept stating that he will call security and would not provide any documentation. To conclude, he could have approached us in a more friendly manner but starting right out of the gate demanding a receipt as if we have not paid is out of line. I am not sure how Ameristar trains their management team but if this is how your management treats guest then it speaks volumes about the company. Gone so far downhill can't even think of coming back. The prime was old and discolored told the waiter who could careless. No attendant at most stations. Potato so cold couldn't even melt the room temp butter. Hubby needed a steak knife to cut thru the English muffin of his bene. Food selection 1/2 of what its been. Deserts down to scraped out bread pudding and ice cream. No one seems to care. Being locals time to find another place. Christmas dinner buffet was extremely overpriced. $78 for two people? I've had Vegas buffets at $25 per person with a better layout and better food. I'm not into crab legs, but my boyfriend had them and he said they were "okay". The pasta at the Italian station was dried out, green bean casserole was awful, the potatoes were pretty good though. The dessert station was pretty. Pumpkin pie was way over spiced and over baked. The best thing over there was the cherry crisp and there wasn't hardly any left. The service seemed like they couldn't figure out who was supposed to be on our table so they just gave up and never came back. Two different servers saying they were getting our drinks, got our drinks, and no one bothered to ask us how we were doing or if we needed anything, meanwhile, the table behind us had stellar service and an attentive waiter. Last crab leg in, my boyfriend finally got a bucket for the legs. On a positive note, the entire place was clean and the food was hot. This was our first visit. Typical casino buffet. They have a wide variety of choices available, Asian, American, Italian, comfort food. Lots and lots of crab legs either steamed or cooked in Asian spicy seasoning. They have a pho station which is nice. If you're really hungry and just want a large amount of food, and you just so happen to be in Blackhawk, then this is the place to visit. To be honest it seems a bit overpriced for what they're giving you, but think of it as quantity of comfort food. read more

Wow. This buffet was truly gross. We went early (around 1130) for their Sunday "Champagne Brunch." Without exaggeration, I felt if I was going through someone's kitchen rummaging for leftovers. No omelette making station. Unable to toast a bagel due to a broken single toaster. The food itself, like the fried chicken, quiche slices, and turkey or roast beef they had at the carving table looked dried out and days old. The gravy for the biscuits and gravy was literally cold, not lukewarm, cold. Even the Asian items they offered looked limp, old, and greasy. This was pretty dismal experience. I seem to remember the Isle of Capri had a good buffet. I can't recommend this place though. I know I'll never return. read more

My wife and I used to come up quite often, however it has been a while. We came back again on a Friday, and now the buffet charges extra for crab legs. They used to be included. It is now $12.95 per pound, so if you want dinner for 2, and a pound of crab legs, it will set you back $78 or so, which for dinner is not bad. However, I expect a little more "bang for my buck" the prime rib was over cooked, salad stations virtually empty, fried chicken was too dry. The stations were not kept up properly and there was food everywhere, on the counters, floor etc. I will say the wait staff though was exceptional, which is why I didn't give this a one star. The food selection, food quality and staff were 5 star all the way. I read one review about not having enough vegetaran choices, but there were tons... in addition to a huge salad bar, they had tofu dishes, eggplant parmesan, cheese enchiladas, cheese manicotti, pho without or with meat/chicken, vegetarian spring rolls, pasta any way you like it, an entire veggie only bar, vegetarian soup. For the meat eaters, they had prime rib, turkey, many different variety of meat dishes. The prime rib was done to perfection with that nice crust and wonderful au jus, horse radish, or horse radish sauce. It was The Best Buffet I've ever eaten at, and the staff was spot on wonderfully awesome in every way.. friendly, quick service, attentive without hovering, quick refills of drinks, quickly removed dirty plates. I thought "Wow, this is almost worth coming all the way up here just to eat." Then, we went back for Monday lunch. Ugh. Poor food selection, food wasn't the right temperature, staff didn't seem to care as much, had to ask for refills, foods not labeled what they were, food was a little greasy. I can barely believe it's the same place. I did have the opportunity to talk to management and told them I was shocked at the inconsistency. He admitted to having a different staff and having problems with labeling, the staff hadn't turned the hot tables on!! This is a gluten free review. It is always risky to eat at a buffet, but the staff here was very educated and the food was very well maintained. For comparison the Isle of Capri buffet is tasteless and poorly maintained. We have tried it several times and would only eat there for the crab legs...even the desserts were bad. There were a lot of gluten free options. I was honestly just planning to eat crab legs with no butter and take a look at having a salad with no salad dressing. Instead the head chef came out and showed me everything I could eat (and she knew exactly what she was talking about). There were many salads I could have, from making my own, to a cucumber salad to an anti-pasta salad. They were not sure about the margarine, so they made me fresh butter to have with the crab (which was pretty fresh but it is the mountains). I could have pork chops, ribs, ham, potato's, there were even little risotto cakes. For desert there was custard, fruit, chocolate mousse and ice cream. There were many other options that I didn't have the room to try. My husband, who is not GF loved this buffet too.
