I almost never write reviews bcuz I'm lazy. But this place is so deserving. My hubby and I decided to try it on a whim, and the previous Yelp reviews did not lie. The food and the proprietor are both awesome. We had the swamp soup, jambalaya, blackened shrimp egg roll, and beignets. Every single thing hit. The proprietor came by to check on us, and even customized my sweet tea by lowering the sugar. It was perfect. She was a great conversationalist. Great food, great service, cozy joint, zero regrets.

Yay! Something besides casino food, and it's GOOD!!! I've been recommending this place for some time because of the experiences of others. Finally we got to try it ourselves and were not disappointed. Two of us tried multiple dishes. My favorites were the hushpuppies, Swamp soup, and Andouille Sausage Rolls. However I had no complaint about anything we tried. The hushpuppies were crispy on the outside and appropriately cooked inside for a satisfying bite. Those and the Swamp Soup brought back fond memories of grandma's homecooking. I'll likely crave these in the future. Both of the rolls we tried had a pleasant crunch filled with distinct but complimentary flavors. The owner, Martina, was very friendly and she does it all. This local cafe presents a lovely small town, homecooked environment making me wish I had time to linger. I am eager to visit again and try other items on the menu!

We drove up to Central City from Colorado Springs and stopped here for lunch. Cajun/Creole egg rolls initially sounded strange, but they were delicious!!!! We got a Andoullie sausage roll, a Muffulleta roll, a Gouda grits roll, a Voodoo roll, and a bowl of red beans and rice with blackened shrimp. Absolutely delicious! It reminded us of trips to New Orleans from years back. She threw in a cup of Swamp Soup which we we definitely be ordering next time we drop by. We are very glad to have skipped the casino restaurants, very highly recommended.

It's early days and I expect the menu to grow along with the business. That's said, on my second visit, I love it as much as the first. First time I had Jambalaya (a special). It's a dish I cook a few times each year (which along with a few visits to NOLA makes me a self-proclaimed expert). It was served here with a sauce or gravy which gave it moisture that I haven't had in others. I liked it very much. Today I had Red Bean & Rice with Andouille. Very good level of spice. It's a charming little dining room and the two ladies who run the business are very warm with Southern hospitality. Bluegrass music in the background to go with my Beignet dessert.

The only thing I didn't like as much was the hashbrowns, they were just okay. I also ordered the jalapeño bread French toast (recommended by our server). I love jalapeño flavor, but I remember thinking it sounded kind of weird for French toast... but I'm glad I tried it because it was so good. They make their breads in-house and I would definitely get that again. I also tried some of my friend's banana bread and that was really delicious too. Didn't get a chance to try these since we had to get to the hot springs soon so thought it's too much food to finish in time, but they had a French toast flight and a Benedict flight, which I've never seen before. Pretty cool, I love anything where you can try multiple flavors. Overall, would reccomend this brunch spot in Idaho Springs. Would come back!

She was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. I ordered the Reuben (currently $18.50) with a cup of their green chili soup ($6.00). The Reuben was outstanding--perfectly grilled with a crispy rye, flavorful corned beef, and just the right balance of Swiss, sauerkraut, and dressing. The green chili soup was rich, comforting, and packed with great Colorado flavor. My wife built her own burger and upgraded to the house salad instead of fries. Everything was fresh, cooked exactly as ordered, and delicious. This has become one of our must-stop restaurants whenever we're headed to Vail. Great food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere every time. Highly recommended--we'll definitely be back!

The Secret's Out: Why Evergreen Bread & Cocktail Lounge is Our Forever Favorite…read moreFor a few years now, my wife and I have considered this place our little "under-the-radar" sanctuary. But let's be honest--when a spot is this good, a secret stays a secret for about as long as a fresh loaf of their bread lasts on a table. (Which is to say: not long at all.) Here is why Evergreen Bread & Cocktail Lounge remains our absolute go-to: * The Vibe: The atmosphere strikes that perfect, rare balance between sophisticated and soulful. Whether you're there for a quiet morning reflective coffee or a lively evening drink, the ambiance just works. * The Bread (Oh, The Bread!): It's the undisputed star of the show. It's consistent, artisanal, and frankly, addictive. If you haven't tried it yet, consider this your formal intervention. * More Than Just a Bakery: They consistently turn out dishes that are as thoughtful as they are delicious. From the first bite to the last sip of coffee, you can tell the kitchen actually cares. * The People: A restaurant can have great decor, but it's the staff that gives it a heart. The team here couldn't be warmer or more attentive; they make you feel like a regular from the moment you walk in. The Verdict? If you're looking for a spot that nails the transition from "morning bakery bliss" to "evening lounge elegance," this is it. We're already counting down the days until our next visit. Highly recommended--just don't be surprised if you have to fight us for a seat!

I mean there's a huge box of fries outside. Well today I wasn't prepared for what we experienced. The place was filled with shot glasses. Cool looking place what's seems to be in the middle of nowhere. This dude greets us introducing himself as "Roy" the owner. He welcomes us and literally gives us the behind the scenes tour of the kitchen and the freezer. What can I say, when you get an unscheduled tour on a Sunday morning and the kitchen and surrounding areas are clean and organized that's a good place. This guy and his wife Barbra run it. He's super cool and self admitted a bit crude but fun nonetheless. He told us we could order anything even if it wasn't on the menu. Sunday everything on the special menu is $10. Next week he's doing a fried chicken buffet for FREE. He says once he didn't have anything and just like doing it for people. He's 72 full of life and maybe a little full of crap but totally fun and friendly. Good food, good service and a fun place on the "peak to peak highway" just outside Blackhawk. This place will be an experience.

They had to close briefly to catch up with the orders after us and we felt bad. When you first arrive, this is essentially a shack. There's limited seating indoors that's like window seats. Then they have a large outdoor seating area. I do wish there was some sort of shade or covering because the sun was beating down on us. It was very hot and it felt like we were burning so maybe bring an umbrella. Now onto the food. The food was quite delicious. The fries were a good crunch and taste. The jalapeño potato salad was so good. The coleslaw is very tangy. The meats were delicious. We had the chopped brisket and the ribs. They're smoked quite well and the bbq sauce pairings were very tasty. I definitely like the hot bbq sauce (wasn't spicy but had such a good flavor).
