A Cajun Gem in the Mountains Lan Yap is an absolute gem tucked away on Lawrence Street in Central City, Colorado. It's a tiny little Cajun joint--humble in size but huge in flavor and personality. The vibe is cozy and authentic, and the proprietor is a wonderful local who's not only a joy to talk to but also brings a wicked cool energy to the place. It's the kind of spot where you feel like you're visiting a friend's kitchen--not a fancy, polished restaurant, but something real and full of heart. Even though she was super busy, she was super nice and very friendly. Now, the food. Wow. I had the Red Beans and Rice with Chicken--absolutely amazing. Comforting, flavorful, and cooked with love. The Hush Puppies were fried to perfection--crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful inside. Easily some of the best I've had. I also tried the Voodoo Roll and the Mufaletta Roll--both packed with flavor and super creative. Even the Fried Okra, which I don't usually like, won me over. It was that good. Lan Yap isn't trying to be a five-star fine dining establishment, and that's what makes it special. It knows exactly what it is: a cozy, unpretentious place serving seriously delicious food. And it nails it. Highly recommended. I'll be back very soon--and if you're anywhere near Central City, you should be too.

It's early days and I expect the menu to grow along with the business. That's said, on my second visit, I love it as much as the first. First time I had Jambalaya (a special). It's a dish I cook a few times each year (which along with a few visits to NOLA makes me a self-proclaimed expert). It was served here with a sauce or gravy which gave it moisture that I haven't had in others. I liked it very much. Today I had Red Bean & Rice with Andouille. Very good level of spice. It's a charming little dining room and the two ladies who run the business are very warm with Southern hospitality. Bluegrass music in the background to go with my Beignet dessert.

Food is a 10 out of 10. Beats any casino food in the area! Highly recommend you stop by. Parking can be difficult.

Food was fantastic, we don't eat out often, but this place beat our expectations. Would definitely recommend and will return again soon.

I had requested a garlic flavoring with a mild touch. I have to say I was very disappointed to get scallops with no flavor enhancements, say with like some old bay. The sauce was very bland and even the garlic butter had no flavor at all. Everything is sold by the pound with a very limited menu. I got the scallops with a side of 3 red potatoes with no flavorings. As if this was not already a sub par meal, the waitstaff were extremely slow and seemed to be in no rush to wait on me. $45.00 including tip ( I'm not a bad sport) For a lack luster attempt at Cajun cuisine. I would not recommend this restaurant.

I was very skeptical at that point if I was going to really like this place. Next, we got seated quite quickly although there were 5 couples ahead of us. All the staff members I encountered were very friendly, nice and attentive which was a huge plus, especially considering how busy it was that day. We ordered our food and noticed they had very good prices and cheaper than our go-to seafood boil place so that's a win! The food came out hot, our server emptied out the bags for us which was very nice. I ordered the shrimp with head on xxtra hot and It was the perfect spice level for my latina taste buds, absolutely loved it even with just the garlic butter sauce. My husband got snow crab and he was very pleased with how tasty and easy it was to crack them open and get the crab out. If you have leftovers they will pack it up for you which is another plus for me! Lastly, I got a beautiful rose to end the night when we were heading out which was a nice touch! Overall, I will definitely be coming back to this restaurant. It was delicious and cooked perfectly! I am excited to try out their other sauces and look forward to it!

We also ordered the chicken fried rice and Cajun fries - the fried rice was excellent! The Cajun fries came out hot and crispy we added the Cajun seasoning they had on the table and I really liked their sauce that came with the fries! I so wanted to be able to leave a good review, but alas, this was very disappointing. Asian cuisine…read moreand Cajun cuisine are both known for bold flavors and seasoning. Asian Cajun has neither. $20 for the fried oyster platter: the smallest flavorless oysters ever, obviously bought from SISCO, and a small handful of Cajun fries that I needed to dunk in ketchup, and if I need to use ketchup on your fries, that is a very bad sign, as I rarely use ketchup. I know from talking to the owner that the fries are $4 and you get a small handful. $16 for a soft shell crab basket: The difference between a basket and a platter is that the basket does not come with fries. These were small, overcooked, super oily crabs that tasted okay when dipped in their remoulade sauce. But nothing a Cajun or an Asian would say was seasoned properly. $50 for 3lbs of crawfish boil: I got the "all in" sauce, but could not taste any garlic, lemon, or Cajun seasoning. This is Prime time for Crawfish supposed to be the largest and best crawfish, harvested right now (but these were probably imported frozen from China; the shells were super soft and clung to the meat like previously frozen, cheap crawfish). There were a couple of medium to large crawfish in the bowl, and the rest were tiny, as small or smaller than my pinky finger. When you cook really small crawfish with medium to large crawfish, the little ones get mushy and are very hard to peel, and fall apart with the shell. $5 for added broccoli, which appeared to be frozen, thawed broccoli that turned to mush when cooked with the crawfish. When I got home, I added MSG and Old Bay seasoning to the bag, so hopefully it will taste better later. (I peeled all the crawfish there to make eating later easier and less messy.) You can buy a pound of frozen crawfish tails from Louisiana for $25 and get a ton more meat, much higher quality meat. $3.50 for a Diet Coke and $1.00 per refill. That is criminal pricing for the item on your menu with the highest margin of profit, and they do not tell you beforehand that refills are extra. And the waitress was so reluctant to get me refills, at one point, I had to walk to the counter to get a refill. They were not super busy, but she (the owner) was the only person working the front of the house. Three not very large sodas for $5.50 total... Circle K sells a 44-ounce soda for $1, tax included, and I am sure they still make a profit. Angel (the owner) was super friendly except for when asking for refills, but took a really long time to get back to me for anything. It was nice that she brought the check to the table and took my payment there instead of at the counter, since I walk with a cane. But no amount of friendliness, cleanliness, or nice decor will overcome bad food, especially at these prices.
