I am often fascinated by historical buildings, especially if they have a historical restaurant like an old saloon. Hence, my friend and I stopped by Gold Coin Saloon & Millie's for food. Despite the historical nature of the building, I was disappointed to see that the interior looked neglected and dated. Barring the interior decor, this restaurant provides just an average experience with nothing remarkable (good or bad) to write home about. Upon entering, we were immediately seated. Our server came by shortly to take our orders, and we received our food within a very reasonable time-frame. However, none of this was impressive considering the fact that the restaurant was mostly empty. The food itself was equally unimpressive. It wasn't exceedingly bad or exceedingly good; it was on par with something I could make at home. Overall, if you're in the area, it wouldn't hurt to drop by. Food Decent omelette, there was nothing extravagant about it or underwhelming. They did put a lot of cheese on top and melted it together seemingly but overall it was straight forward. My biscuit had gravy in it, although I prefer them dry so I can add jelly. The gravy was decent and I still added some jelly. Price point wasn't bad either. Service When I went, there were only 5 people there total so the waiter could make decent rotations. I was asked for a refill maybe twice in the time I was there. Ambiance This place is down town and it's an old down town. The actual restaurant is on the top floor of a casino. It really gives an old saloon feel, like cowboys and the wild west. There are 14 restaurants in town and Millie's is one of them. Located inside the second level of Easy Street Casino. The town of Central is 135 years old. They have six casinos that are open 24 hours. Back in the 1860s-1870s they were the richest mining city in CO. Central City rivaled Denver as the territory's cultural capital. ... Very good is my experience. Came for breakfast and ordered the Gamblers special. Best deal on the menu and plenty of food. Everything else is around $10 or so. Cooks and wait staff are a bit thin right now, so plan on the extra 10-15 minutes for your meal to arrive. The place is clean and I could see each table and condiment being sanitized prior to new guests arriving. Overall, in Central City this is one of the few places to eat right now. Come and enjoy. Staying in Black Hawk and we were in need of brunch. This place is a hidden gem and it hit the spot. We were the only people eating in the restaurant which had an odd old feeling to it. Our waitress was very nice and since we were her only customers very attentive. There were four of us present and we each order a few items and everything came out good. Quite possibly the worst dining experience ever. If you look at the pictures you'll see a mostly empty dining area. Thats because it is empty. Empty and quiet. The theme is a little jarring but would probably be better received if it had even the slightest bit of effort applied. The service was off. New waitress messed up a couple items and seemed to have a bit of a meltdown after. So much so another waitress had to takeover. The wait was ridiculous. We got there around 10:30 and then didn't get out of there till noon. The food was meh. Her ability to combine flavors, spices , and ingredients is spot on. Her passion for cooking is really apparent in her soups. We have never been disappointed with her soups. The casino had a sign that says 21+ only. We have a 7 year old and we went into ask if she was allowed to go in to eat at the restaurant. The restaurant is upstairs. We were seated right away. The timing to get food was quick. Other people were having to wait longer to be seated. I had the country fried steak and it was very delicious. My friend had the burger and that was good too. Millie's is a blast from the past! Restaurant is upstairs from the casino. Went there twice for breakfast. For less than $20 total we had the Miners breakfast, two eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns, toast, milk and coffee. Service is a little slow because of lack of staff but our server was a great lady and able to give us some history about the casino area. We returned to try their $13.99 prime rib dinner but left empty handed. We got there at 8:00 and given a pager with a "30 minute wait". We went downstairs and had a drink at the bar. About 8:30 we went back up and were told the kitchen was only serving take out at this time per the general managers instruction. So we left disappointed and hungry! There was a snowstorm so we assumed that was the reason. My country fried steak was fine. My mom's prime rib was not good. Tough, old, and tons of grizzle. But the boneless pork ribs were absolutely terrible. They actually acknowledged the poor product and removed it from our bill so props to proper dinner etiquette. The atmosphere just reminds you how cheesy trinkets can just make a place look trashy. The food prices are a little pricey, but at least the serving sizes make up for it. I tried the burrito, which comes with every burrito topping (guac, sour cream, green chili sauce, tomatoes, lettuce) on top, with a flour tortilla wrapping the meat. As service goes, we ended up with the slower waitress. For example, she took 10 minutes after dropping off the check to come back and pick up the money/credit cards -- and then took another 10 minutes just to return with the receipts. read more

What a pleasant surprise this was. Went there for lunch on our way to Hidee Gold Mine. There were only 3 other diners there when we arrived. (We thought they were casino employees.) Waitress put two tables together for us near a window. We wondered that with the lack of patrons the food would not be good. My plain hamburger was fantastic! It was juicy and flavorful. The same for my husband's patty melt. The rest of our party ordered the chicken strips from the appetizer menu. They were perfectly cooked! 5 people, lunch, a couple of beers, tip, all for under $65. I think that was a bargain. One note, we weren't sure where to enter with a child, but found the main entrance into the bar and then we were directed to the stairs leading to the second floor where the restaurant is located. read more

Such a cool little bar/casino! You have to make this a place to stop on your visit through Central City! The drinks are cheap (compared to Chicago) and really good! We loved chilling on the old furniture in the corner and was amused to see a phone booth. The old-time swinging saloon doors toward the front of the bar gave way to a fun photo op.
