8 Jalapeno Poppers from Waypost Deli March 23rd 2012 Take Away...
    Riza H. C.

Waypost Deli, indeed you come to my rescue... in terms when I am craving for something aka FOOD. Its the ONLY food deli in Ameristar that is opened 24 hours, while I was there with the ladies, March 22nd - 24th 2012. Waypost Deli offers several food fixings such as Sandwiches, Pizzas, Chicken Wings, Snacks, Fresh Fruits, Beverages at a COST! You order at the counter, get your receipt, wait for your order and you get your food piping HOT if you order the HOT FOODs, that is Good in my books. While you wait for your order, you can see the line cooks all in action cooking the stuffs since its an open kitchen. One of my lady friends mentioned that the Buffalo Wings (12 pieces of wings) ($11.49) are GOOD! To me, its GOOD since its FRIED and you get it Piping HOT. As for the sauce, it DOES NOT WOW me at all, but I am OK with the WINGS. How I wish they can offer "variety" in terms of the Chicken Wings and other food. Another order I recall was the Jalapeno Poppers (8 pieces) ($6.29). YES, its just Jalapeno Poppers, I like it, since I like Jalapeno Poppers for my snack @ 2:15 am in the morning! YES, it seems that since its in a CASINO, they can OVERCHARGED everyone, but hey you got to eat something right?? So note to SELF, next time heading to this CASINO, bring SNACKS, Fruits or Food, you can "stash" in the hotel room that does not need to be hot or does not need to be cold, so I wont pay EXTRA in the future... *Evil Smile* That morning, some of the guests offer my other lady friends, some COLD BEER for FREE, since that was what they told us, they brough some coolers filled with ICE & ALL to their hotel rooms so they wont pay that OUTRAGE prices for Beers or Booze. @54/2012

Normally I would give a place like this 3 stars but I think everything went right to make it a 4 star experience.

    Colorado Chile Burger.

I was able to check out the Waypost Deli for the first time early this morning after a long evening in Black Hawk. As I had received a $10 voucher, I decided to give it a try. I went with the Colorado Chile Burger, which was great - tons of Colorado chiles, pepper jack cheese, and bacon made for some pretty good eating. The menu looked pretty diverse, although I was told that it's limited during certain times of the day - everything from pizza to burgers to breakfast sandwiches. Although my meal was comped, the prices didn't look too bad, considering that it's an eatery within a casino. While the Ameristar is known as being a high-end property in Black Hawk, most of the other restaurants I've investigated there also come with high-end pricing. My only reason for not giving five stars is due to the fact that the dining room was in dire need of a cleaning - tons of unbussed tables and trash everywhere, but it was about 4am during the time of my visit, so I'm guessing they were running on a skeleton shift. After a second visit during normal hours, things were slightly better. All in all, definitely worth checking out.

    Giddy Up!

The prices are fair. The food is really good. We love to come here when we stay at Ameristar. We come here at least 2 - 3 times when we stay. The friendly service is almost always great. If your looking for quality food at a fair price, this is the place.

I really like Johnny Z's but I can honestly say one is better of going to the sandwich counter…read moredownstairs or the Bistro restaurant upstairs, than "The Grill!" This was my 3rd or 4th time going. Clearly, I am a slow learner, and forgave the experience but this was the last straw. The service is ALWAYS terrible and the food is even worse. I have ordered a different dish every time and everyone them was either cold (left on the cooks counter for the waiter too long) or bland or just plain bad! Last night I ordered tacos. It took forever to even get service, or our food, and there was 6 customers in the whole place. The food came cold but before I knew it was cold, I asked for salsa (it came with none) and took forever to come back. The moment they left for salsa, I took a bite and realized the food was cold (all of it, beans, rice, tacos). I had to go search for them to come back and told them it was cold. They had it remade (took forever) and they salsa was literally stewed tomatoes from the can. This time, the plate was scalding hot and the waitress gave no warning! Now, it was hot and terrible with canned tomatoes for salsa. Ridiculous and they still charged us! I will go to Johnny Z's but will not ever again eat at the Grill!

The only thing I didn't like as much was the hashbrowns, they were just okay. I also ordered the jalapeño bread French toast (recommended by our server). I love jalapeño flavor, but I remember thinking it sounded kind of weird for French toast... but I'm glad I tried it because it was so good. They make their breads in-house and I would definitely get that again. I also tried some of my friend's banana bread and that was really delicious too. Didn't get a chance to try these since we had to get to the hot springs soon so thought it's too much food to finish in time, but they had a French toast flight and a Benedict flight, which I've never seen before. Pretty cool, I love anything where you can try multiple flavors. Overall, would reccomend this brunch spot in Idaho Springs. Would come back!

They accommodated us walking in and some special dietary needs easily. The wine was very tasty and the food was good, but not phenomenal, especially given the price. For this price, Monarch Chophouse is equivalent and an experience that is in a different category (in the best way). It's a very quiet, intimate space, and I think they played the entirety of Sinatra's playlist! Good if you're there, but for a better local steakhouse for this price, I'd go with Monarch.

When we arrived without reservations they were still able to accommodate us and sit is in a booth. The restaurant wasn't full at all though, I don't know if I would expect to call for reservations. The place was clean and romantically lit. The servers were excellent. We ordered shrimp cocktail appetizer, a New York and a Fillet. Both paired with Lemon pepper Asparagus and baked potatoes. After ordering they brought us some rolls, this is where we were taken back. These were nothing but store bought Hawaiian Sweet Rolls, and they weren't even freshly bought. We passed on them, the shrimp cocktail was amazing so we have them a pass on the rolls. When the actual meal was served we found both the asparagus and baked potatoes were under cooked. Those this isn't difficult items to cook, we are the potatoes and passed on the asparagus. The steaks were less then par and very dry. They bring a side of gravy with them but this alone wasn't enough to make up for the tough dry steak. I know I am from Wyoming and will challenge anyone to compete with our states top steak houses, but I think I wouldn't compare this to the worst of them. It's about like eating warm jerky, even then I think there is more moisture in jerky. Never again. The service is the only reason they received 3 stars the meal is less than desirable, the price is definitely not reflective of anything but the price.

This dressing did not taste homemade and had balsamic which effectively ruined it. Elk Stew: 3.5 The stew was hearty, thick, and quite delicious... and over salted. Potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, plenty of elk. The bread bowl was soft and tasty. It would be ideal to be a sourdough locally baked bowl, IMO. Overall, I'd try it again at some point.
