Food is wonderful. I am a sucker for Yuca fries and the ones at Mariposa do not disappoint. Their…read morenewer item; an appetizer of latin inspired shrimp scampi are delicious. And kissed by the fire grill. I would not order the so called char broiled care asada, as the kitchen pre slices the beef, so it doesn't actually get a char grill. It's a sad expression of a charrasco. All cook should have knives to slices a properly cooked steak, one would think. One major frustration is the fact that the open kitchen staff are blasting their own music whilst the Spanish guitar trio is also playing. While perhaps those sitting farther in the restaurant cannot hear the kitchen staff music. Those at the bar fale and the communal table behind the bar are going to be annoyed by having to listen to music by a kitchen staff that should not be having music playing. It is an open concept kitchen! The bartender Tyler did an excellent job of explaining the menu with descriptions and suggestions based upon my tastes. And assisted when items didn't meet expectations though. Monarch and Mariposa are lucky to have him!

This goes into my list of top ten meals of all time! We received a text ten minutes before our…read morereservation time stating that our table was ready so we would have time to walk across the casino. We arrived and the host showed us immediately to a table, but we requested the bar since there were still seats available. The restaurant was romantic and dark, with an open kitchen so you could watch the chefs create their magic. Tyler was our bartender, server, and entertainer that evening, and helped explain the menu to us, which included a tablet with pictures and descriptions of each meal so you wouldn't be left guessing. He also kept us laughing and we ended up staying longer than planned (and ordering a LOT more than we had planned) because we were enjoying his conversation so much. To start us off with drinks, at Tyler's recommendation, I went for the Smoke Signal (I'm a sucker for Mezcal) and loved the balance of alcohol, smoke and sweetness. Our appetizers were the Fry Bread Esquites - pillowy fry bread topped with perfectly seasoned charred corn, cotija and zesty chipotle aioli, and the Pan Seared Shrimp served with blue corn tortillas, guacamole and the most delicious tomato macha. The shrimp aren't completely peeled, so beware there is more than the tails to remove! For the main meal we split the Pork Tomahawk - the most expensive thing on the menu (besides the steak offerings), and it was worth it! The most tender and moist pork I've ever had, with sweet potato purée, grilled mushrooms, fresh broccolini and a sweet honey chipotle sauce. We were too full for dessert (I honestly haven't consumed so much in one sitting, but it was too good to stop!), but we were able to fit in one more drink at the end. I chose the Sweet Venom, recommended by Tyler, which was a sweeter drink with a floater of Tingala which makes your tongue go numb. Tyler offered us a little splash of the Tingala on its own which was a fun experience! It was a pricey meal for sure, but worth more than every cent we spent. Highly recommend the dishes and beverages we got, and if you're lucky enough to snag a seat at the bar when Tyler is working, you're guaranteed to have a great night!

The service was fast for removing our plates, and in some cases, maybe even a little too fast! The food is refilled quickly, and the fresher options are out there. It is true you only get one serving of crab and lobster but that is unfortunately just the way things are now with buffets. It is not unique to a specific buffet. When we come back to Blackhawk in one buffet, this is the one we will be going to.

The price is a bit steep at ~$60/person for dinner on the weekends, but the quality and variety of food is decent for the price. First off, the queen of the buffet, or any buffet in my opinion, are the lobster tail and snow crab. When you pay, 2 redemption coupons are handed per person; one for a lobster tail and one for 2 snow crab clusters. Although this may seem like it is not much, it really is plenty of food unless the plan is to only eat lobster and snow crab (please refer to attached picture). The pho station is ok and the prime rib was very salty, but other than those two, everything else tasted great. Service is top notch. Our server checked in on us and cleaned up our discarded lobster/crab remains very quickly and frequently. Make sure to tip your servers even at buffets!

We started with the green chili cheese fries, and they were so good! Packed with flavor and not so much chili that the fries were soggy, but it wasn't a meager portion either. Could have used a little bit more of the pork pieced in the green chili itself, but the appetizer was generous in portion size, so we were pleased nonetheless. i had a cobb salad, and it was rather large. i would have been fine with a half-portion, mostly bc i eat the hearty items and leave the lettuce be. hubby's burger was a sight for sore eyes and the flavor was packin. his fries were perfectly salty, cooked just right, and were so good! service was great. we weren't inundated with the how is everything? Can I get you anything else? visits, and the server was well aware of refilling drinks and dropping off the check without ado. we enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant, and the noise level was rather low, service and order pacing was excellent, and the place was rather clean

I went on a fairly busy Saturday night, hoping that would lead to a hot, fresh, well replenished experience. It didn't really result in that, sadly. Customer service was pleasant. The chefs were friendly and helpful and our server was great. I thought the iced tea and coffee were both delicious. Taco meat was quite tasty and I appreciated the cookies on the dessert bar were held at a warm temperature. Some things weren't refilled ever during our leisurely visit of 1 1/2 hours: Certain desserts, sides, salsas and accoutrements like chips at the Mexican bar. Each station seemed pretty lacking on variety. Some offerings were kind of lukewarm, like the fried shrimp and mashed potatoes. Would I return? Definitely not during a peak priced meal time. Maybe during lunch or something while visiting the casino. I love variety so I love buffets, even though quality does often lack. However, if you have visited buffets off and on, you learn that some have fresher, hotter, well stocked offerings and others don't. This one wasn't terrible but was pretty meh and disappointing over all. Also a note to this buffet's management. Wynn's buffet in Las Vegas is only $39.99 for a Saturday night. Yours was 34.99. Wynn also didn't have the widest variety but had quite a bit more than yours as well as fresher and gourmet offerings for just $5 more. I feel strongly that you could do better for this price point and I'm rooting for improvements!
