Our server Ingrid was the sweetest, and genuinely friendly! The sampler platter was soo much food I could only sample a few bites of each item... were for sure taking everything home! The cornbread is the best I've ever tasted in my life! $13 catfish meal before 4pm with a coleslaw that was surprisingly great (I don't usually like slaw)

Located in Oceanside, California is "Felix's BBQ with Soul " . Thinking outside of the box to write a review to let people know that "Felix's BBQ with Soul " should be known for more than generous portions, and famous dishes like: Alabama Fried Chicken, Beef Brisket, or Gumbo. That being said, the next time you go to "Felix's BBQ with Soul" please draw your senses to the smell, and taste of homemade cookies that are on display at "Felix's BBQ with Soul " . On the day that I went to Felix's they had these types of cookies: macadamia, chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, or snickerdoodle. (See the pictures) Enjoy

We just discovered the ideal Sunday lunch spot in Oceanside for our family to get our grub on after church. Yup, you guessed it, this place. Lol Felix, you had me at LIVE PIANO MUSIC, which is the first thing I noticed upon walking in. The gentlemen at the keys can play anything--from jazz to classical. From soul to Stevie Wonder. He even jazzed up Beethoven's Fur Elise! And he let one of my kids play and accompanied him. Best of all, it turns out he's there every Sunday! --the first reason we'll be back. Noah our server was most helpful in guiding us through the whole menu and making recommendations. I don't know how many requests we made for more napkins and plates, etc. for our multiple messy kids, but he was patient and quickly responsive through it all. He was even so generous as to give us a first time customer discount. Another reason to return Finally, the food. Our kids loved the beef ribs and baby back ribs. Tasty and tender. We got more after sampling them in the sampler platter. Same with the garlic shrimp which my wife ended up ordering two more orders of. I couldn't help dipping everything else in its garlic butter sauté. The complimentary cute round cornbread muffins were to die for! So good we ordered like a dozen more to take home. I can't remember if I've ever been so wowed by a restaurant's complimentary carb hah. Speaking of carbs, we were unfortunately so stuffed we didn't get to try any desserts, but I was definitely eyeing the peach cobbler and key lime cake on the menu. "I shall return!"

Came here for dinner on a Friday night during a staycation in Oceanside. Walking in we hear live music and the band was really good. We were seated quickly even though it was busy, which is nice. We opted for the sampler which gave us the option of choosing 4 meats and 4 sides. We picked baby back ribs, beef tenderloins, pork ribs, and catfish. For the sides we went southern and got collared greens, hush puppies, fried green tomatoes, and baked beans. For the meats, the baby back ribs were delicious, the other two meats were so-so, but the catfish was the star. It was perfectly fried and the fish was moist and flavorful, definitely the best I've ever had. For the sides, the collared greens was my favorite, the fried green tomatoes and hush puppies were on the dry side, and the baked beans were just a bit too sweet. The ambience was definitely southern and lively, which we both enjoyed. My wife liked the food more than I did, so I'm sure we will be back, which I really don't mind. Who doesn't love good BBQ?

We usually love Felix's! We bring our family and always recommend this place. The service today was not good. It started off well, but once our server dropped off our plates, brought napkins, she did not return until my husband and son was done eating. My Gumbo plate was less than appetizing, and I couldn't get the chance to flag our server down to let her know, she was not even circling around us keeping an eye. At the end of our visit, when she FINALLY returned to make her rounds to clear plates she asked if anything was wrong with the Gumbo. I let her know I did not care for it, and she said she was so sorry, she would take care of it and asked if I wanted anything else. I thanked her, and asked for the Cajun Pasta to go. After another 20 minutes, she returned with the to go order and the check. She said because her manager was not in, she couldn't comp the Gumbo meal. At no point did she let us know that before bringing the pasta and check, obviously we wouldn't have ordered an additional entree had we known our other one would not be taken care of, as she advised. The service was unfortunately nothing we've ever experienced before, and considering it was slow when we were dining in, it was extremely disappointing.

Are you kidding me? Who is cooking because they need a medal or something! This has to be thee best catfish I ever had!!! My husband is from Mississippi and he was even amazed. He ate his ribs so fast I didn't get a picture but those are freaking great too. We door dashed the food and it still arrived hot and delicious. If you are seeking soul food at its finest you must stop here! Thank you for excellence and great pricing.

I discovered Felix BBQ several years ago, and whenever we head to San Diego, we usually try to stop by for lunch or dinner on our way home. What originally drew me to this restaurant was their Alabama fried chicken. I've never had anything like it and still can't find anything comparable in the LA or Orange County area. The skin is incredibly crispy, and the meat is tender and juicy. They offer daily lunch specials that are great deals. I've had their BBQ ribs before, and they're just okay for me. The greens and mashed potatoes are good and are usually my go-to sides. I also like the fried green tomatoes and love that I can order them as an individual side. They're lightly battered and really tasty. On my last visit, the food quality was a bit off. The fried chicken batter wasn't as thick as usual, and the sides came out cold. That said, I won't let one off experience stop me from coming back. For dessert, their oatmeal cookies are really good. I've tried the red velvet cake before, but it was a little too sweet for my taste. Customer service is always great. I've never had a bad experience.

First time having soul food was very good would come back ! Very friendly and fast service

    Baby back ribs with beans

We were in town for Easter and found Felix's BBQ. Wow! So delicious! We were greeted and immediately sat. We both had the sweet tea, which was so tasty. They brought us the corn bread muffins and I could have eaten them all myself. We ordered the baby back ribs and the tips and each got 2 sides. We each had the beans and I had the candied sweet potatoes and my son had the red beans and rice. The meat had a nice smoky flavor and the meat was so tender! I absolutely loved the candied sweet potatoes, with a cinnamon kick! They had the games on the tv and plenty of seating inside. Service was excellent, and kept our drinks filled! So glad we found Felix's!

We were in Oceanside for work so I checked on YELP to see what was good for lunch. The menu for this place caught my eye and made me hungry with anticipation. It did not disappoint. We got there around 2 on Saturday afternoon. When we walked in, it didn't look very busy but by the time we left, there were a lot of people waiting to get in. Lucky us. We were greeted right away and taken to a table. The biggest challenge was trying to decide what to eat. Looking around, we could see that the portions were a good size so my wife and I decided to split a meal. We ordered the 1/2 Rack of Ribs and 1/2 BBQ Chicken combo with Sweet Potato Fries and the Southern Baked Beans. Our drinks were brought out along with a basket of Cornbread Muffins. The muffins were delicious. So light and fluffy and full of flavor. Just as we were finishing the muffins, our lunch arrived. Amazing quick service and very attentive throughout the meal. Both the ribs and the chicken were delicious. Hard to say which was better. The ribs were fall off the bone tender and full of flavor. The chicken was cooked perfectly. So moist and tender and full of flavor as well. The fries and beans were a perfect pairing. Plenty of food for the two of us. But had no room for dessert. We will have to return to give that a try. Absolutely love this place and highly recommend it.

Ask the Community - Felix's BBQ With Soul

    How spicy is the food?

The food is flavorful. Spicy would not be an adjective used for this style of food.

Can they take a reservation for 10?

I am not particularly sure on this question, I believe it's a party of 8. However I am sure they can definitely make it work. Excellent place to be.

Is the Sunday brunch buffet back? Update: I've just called them on 9/05/23, and they said they don't offer the buffet. =(

YES IT IS!!!!!! Sundays only, 10am-2pm all you can eat

The phone number listed here and on their website is disconnected. Are they still in business?

    Yes, they're still in business.

Do they still have the Sunday brunch buffet?

I don't believe so, due to COVID

Is it true you're opening a location in San Marcos? And if so is there a target date?

Yes I came for dinner and asked . She said she thinks they are open now

Outside dining or take out only?

You can do both. There are a few tables outside but first come first serve. You order inside and they bring out to your table in to go containers.

Do they deliver or have delivery service set up like door dash?

    Yes, they are on DoorDash.

Is the renovation finished? Are they continuing brunch while the renovation continues?

    Sorry, I do not know.

Is this a sit down and order place? Or order at the counter?

    Sit down with a server.

What are some options on the Sunday buffet? There are so many good choices on the breakfast and lunch menu...are there some from each or is the Sunday brunch something different all together?

For brunch they have baked and fried chicken, sausage and bacon, two types of ribs, Mac and cheese, candied yams, gumbo, catfish nuggets, greens, biscuit and gravy, and a few other things. They also do made to order waffles and omelettes, but I…

What is the Sunday brunch buffet setup like?

The buffet is set up in a room separate to the main restaurant, we have been there and would thoroughly recommend. Ensure it truly is for brunch and you haven't already eaten because you will leave very full!

How late is breakfast served? Found out it's 2 pm on weekends, noon on weekdays.

Hello, I tried ordering online and it would not take my order it kept saying past date which it was not. :( what time do they open to order delivery?

Just give them a call- they are really good with customer service and catering!!

So the music here is every Wednesday and every other Saturday; is that correct?

Hi Glenn - sorry it took so long to reply to you - you're correct about the music; every Wednesday, Jason Webber plays saxophone and every other Saturday, Janine Francis sings, backed by her husband on guitar. Hope to see you there!

It used to be…read moretheir spot, so I thought, what better way to honor him than with ribs, mac and cheese, and a hopeful attitude? We ordered the 3 meats plate with a side of mac and cheese, thinking we'd leave in a food coma. Plot twist: for $45, we basically split a light snack. We asked for double ribs, but apparently ribs are weighed like gold here--so we got just a few sad little bones. When I asked the bartender, she hit me with a "it's weighted meat" and shrugged. Oh. Okay. Guess we're on a portion control diet now. The BBQ sauce? Meh. My mom and I both agreed it was giving "needs a little more love." The corn? Tasted like it defrosted just for us. Still decent, but not for the price tag. The mac and cheese though? A win. Warm, cheesy, and the only thing that arrived hotter than my mild frustration. Now let's talk service. Our bartender vanished mid-meal (poof! just like the ribs), didn't say bye, and didn't introduce her replacement. Instead, she sat at the bar with her friends while we played a fun game of "Where's Our Server?" Spoiler: we lost. Had to ask multiple times for refills. Not quite the relaxing "mom night out" I had in mind. My mom summed it up perfectly: "The prices went up, and the service went down." Poetry. Also, shoutout to the guy next to us who tried ordering half the menu only to be told, "Yeah, we're out of that" over and over. Management, a quick stock check might be helpful for you guest Lastly, don't come here if you're starving or in a rush. Our food took forever and was colder than my ex's heart by the time it arrived--minus the mac and cheese, the MVP. Would I come back? Maybe. But only after a snack and a pep talk. Management, if you're reading this, we just want hot food, a heads-up when the server disappears, and ribs that don't need a microscope to be seen. Is that too much to ask?

They've been in the current spot for the last 7 or 8 months, so fairly new, but were down the street for many years before that. We ordered 2 different kinds of BBQ chicken wings. Two orders of the sweet chili glazed (Pine Doni) and one of the other which was like a honey bbq glazed style. All were supposed to have 6 wings, but the honey BBQ one had 5 (?).
