I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place yet! BBQ really isn't Oceanside so it's nice change. Their brisket is amazing and tender and the BBQ sauce is the perfect balance! Never had anything bad and service is great even when it's during the busy dinner rush. Also do yourself a favor and grab a slice of Red Velvet cake too!

Thinking outside of the box to write a review to let people know that "Felix's BBQ with Soul " should be known for more than generous portions, and famous dishes like: Alabama Fried Chicken, Beef Brisket, or Gumbo. That being said, the next time you go to "Felix's BBQ with Soul" please draw your senses to the smell, and taste of homemade cookies that are on display at "Felix's BBQ with Soul " . We just discovered the ideal Sunday lunch spot in Oceanside for our family to get our grub on after church. Yup, you guessed it, this place. Lol Felix, you had me at LIVE PIANO MUSIC, which is the first thing I noticed upon walking in. The gentlemen at the keys can play anything--from jazz to classical. From soul to Stevie Wonder. He even jazzed up Beethoven's Fur Elise! And he let one of my kids play and accompanied him. Best of all, it turns out he's there every Sunday! --the first reason we'll be back. Noah our server was most helpful in guiding us through the whole menu and making recommendations. I don't know how many requests we made for more napkins and plates, etc. for our multiple messy kids, but he was patient and quickly responsive through it all. He was even so generous as to give us a first time customer discount. Another reason to return Finally, the food. Our kids loved the beef ribs and baby back ribs. Tasty and tender. We got more after sampling them in the sampler platter. Same with the garlic shrimp which my wife ended up ordering two more orders of. I couldn't help dipping everything else in its garlic butter sauté. The complimentary cute round cornbread muffins were to die for! So good we ordered like a dozen more to take home. I can't remember if I've ever been so wowed by a restaurant's complimentary carb hah. Speaking of carbs, we were unfortunately so stuffed we didn't get to try any desserts, but I was definitely eyeing the peach cobbler and key lime cake on the menu. "I shall return!"
Came here for dinner on a Friday night during a staycation in Oceanside. Walking in we hear live music and the band was really good. We were seated quickly even though it was busy, which is nice. We opted for the sampler which gave us the option of choosing 4 meats and 4 sides. We picked baby back ribs, beef tenderloins, pork ribs, and catfish. For the sides we went southern and got collared greens, hush puppies, fried green tomatoes, and baked beans. For the meats, the baby back ribs were delicious, the other two meats were so-so, but the catfish was the star. It was perfectly fried and the fish was moist and flavorful, definitely the best I've ever had. For the sides, the collared greens was my favorite, the fried green tomatoes and hush puppies were on the dry side, and the baked beans were just a bit too sweet. The ambience was definitely southern and lively, which we both enjoyed. My wife liked the food more than I did, so I'm sure we will be back, which I really don't mind. Who doesn't love good BBQ?
I discovered Felix BBQ several years ago, and whenever we head to San Diego, we usually try to stop by for lunch or dinner on our way home. What originally drew me to this restaurant was their Alabama fried chicken. I've never had anything like it and still can't find anything comparable in the LA or Orange County area. The skin is incredibly crispy, and the meat is tender and juicy. They offer daily lunch specials that are great deals. I've had their BBQ ribs before, and they're just okay for me. The greens and mashed potatoes are good and are usually my go-to sides. I also like the fried green tomatoes and love that I can order them as an individual side. They're lightly battered and really tasty. On my last visit, the food quality was a bit off. The fried chicken batter wasn't as thick as usual, and the sides came out cold. That said, I won't let one off experience stop me from coming back. For dessert, their oatmeal cookies are really good. I've tried the red velvet cake before, but it was a little too sweet for my taste. Customer service is always great. I've never had a bad experience.

DELICIOUS came in to celebrate graduation right across the street from front wave arena...the CORNBREAD MUFFINS ARE AMAZING! I ate about 7 of them NO KIDDING the ribs were juicy snd just right! I know it was a good meal because when i got back to my hotel i took a nice long nap! Food is filling and the staff is friendly very interactive and caring for their customers...will definitely return if ever in the area
Are you kidding me? Who is cooking because they need a medal or something! This has to be thee best catfish I ever had!!! My husband is from Mississippi and he was even amazed. He ate his ribs so fast I didn't get a picture but those are freaking great too. We door dashed the food and it still arrived hot and delicious. If you are seeking soul food at its finest you must stop here! Thank you for excellence and great pricing.
We ordered catering from the Carlsbad location, arrived on time, food was ready and was hot in the tins when I arrived. We bought Chicken, Brisket and Baby Back ribs. The Brisket was overcooked, dry and tough to eat, the ribs were good, not great but good. The Chicken was overcooked not moist, had good flavor on the outside, but each bite was dry and needed to be washed down. I had 14 people at my house not one said they would order it again, not a good statistic. We were regulars at the Oceanside location, where we ate these items and raved about them in the past, this was not good.
BBQ with Soul?! Yes...yes it is. Absolutely love this place. Always welcomed with a smile. The service here is perfectly balanced. Attentive but not overbearing. I've never waited for my iced tea or water to be topped off. Then we have the food. Yes yes yes . So good. I got the sampler platter w/o sides which is my standard go to here. My husband and I got the lunch special. Appetizer of chicken tenders was really good. He got the fried chicken - juicy meat with a nice crunch on the skin. I got the ribs with sauce on the side, Mac and cheese and added collard greens as an extra side. The ribs were much better with the sauce on it. The sides were good. Cake was good, but I think I prefer key lime pie. Food was good for the price. Service was great. May come back and try breakfast.
Hi every body. Okay, so Socal and Soulfood don't seem a likely pairing. If you agree, stop, we're wrong. I'm a born and raised southern man, and quite the southern cook. I got greens, beans, tomatoes, potatoes, hams, yams, YOU NAAAAME IT! (Shirley Caesar). Felix's has that level of soul. Do you eat your greens by mashing a hunk of cornbread into the greens with your fingers, and eating with your digits? I do. This is real southern style soul food. This is that Crooked letter, that Bama, that Jawguh style soul food you don't see out side the deep south. I grew up in all 3 of them, plus Tejas and Virginny. Collard green juice is in my veins along with a dash of Louisiana hot sauce. I burn in the kitchen. This place burns better than me. Fall off the bone tender ribs. Candied yams, could have used slices if lemon (hint, authentic southern candied yams must have lemons cooked in). Oh these were great sweet spuds, but the next level up requires sliced lemons that render and become candied themselves. The cornbread is a southern staple, Jiffy, but they obviously put a spin on it that had the muffins floating off the platter. These where fresh, hot, fresh n hot, lightly sweet, crust was so golden. I was sad when I ran out. No component was served that didn't seem prepared with intensity. Someone put their whole foot in this meal and wiggled each toe. (That's southern chef for they prepared this meal with love ). The server was super nice, very attentive, really seemed genuine. They also have live music. A sax player that was grooving and truly a gifted artist, so do tip. Gotta bounce. Take care of yourselves. Thanks for sharing my experiences in Oceanside Socal, but why noy fly out for your own? Our server Ingrid was the sweetest, and genuinely friendly! The sampler platter was soo much food I could only sample a few bites of each item... were for sure taking everything home! So, I'm truly disappointed in how the service has been going here. The last few times I've been here there seems to be a lot of staff, but no one really knowing what's going on. Basically there's no organization and just a hectic mess. My recent visit, I was told they didn't have an item, only to see they did have it. Also I was told misinformation and then charged incorrectly, and after addressing the issue nothing was done about it. Not sure if there's new management or new owners, but if continues to be this ridiculous I will not be coming back. read more
3.5 stars. Starter choose 3 meats 4 sides. Tri tip sandwich with one side. Side muffins and pecan pie. I grew up on BBQ fro. KCMO, Oklahoma.a and Texas. My mom made amazing tender brisket. -Brisket- was a bit tougher than I'd like. -Pork- was ok -St Louis rib. So good! It didn't seem to have sauce on it but had a great flavor and it was very tender. (The star of my dinner ) - Mac n cheese was good and was seasoned. It was not bland. -Baked beans were good a bit runny - Not a fan of the black eyed peas. I should have gone with red beans and rice. (My mom made awesome blacked peas every new year) Ordered spicy BBQ sauce and ranch. The BBQ sauce was super runny and sweet. Not sure what it was. The ranch was really good. - Tri-tip sandwich with sweet potato fries. Tough but had a great flavor. The sweet potato fries were good. - Pecan pie. Tasted homemade was good. read more
We were in town for Easter and found Felix's BBQ. Wow! So delicious! We were greeted and immediately sat. We both had the sweet tea, which was so tasty. They brought us the corn bread muffins and I could have eaten them all myself. We ordered the baby back ribs and the tips and each got 2 sides. We each had the beans and I had the candied sweet potatoes and my son had the red beans and rice. The meat had a nice smoky flavor and the meat was so tender! I absolutely loved the candied sweet potatoes, with a cinnamon kick! They had the games on the tv and plenty of seating inside. Service was excellent, and kept our drinks filled! We were in Oceanside for work so I checked on YELP to see what was good for lunch. The menu for this place caught my eye and made me hungry with anticipation. It did not disappoint. We got there around 2 on Saturday afternoon. When we walked in, it didn't look very busy but by the time we left, there were a lot of people waiting to get in. Lucky us. We were greeted right away and taken to a table. The biggest challenge was trying to decide what to eat. Looking around, we could see that the portions were a good size so my wife and I decided to split a meal. We ordered the 1/2 Rack of Ribs and 1/2 BBQ Chicken combo with Sweet Potato Fries and the Southern Baked Beans. Our drinks were brought out along with a basket of Cornbread Muffins. The muffins were delicious. So light and fluffy and full of flavor. Just as we were finishing the muffins, our lunch arrived. Amazing quick service and very attentive throughout the meal. Both the ribs and the chicken were delicious. Hard to say which was better. The ribs were fall off the bone tender and full of flavor. The chicken was cooked perfectly. So moist and tender and full of flavor as well. The fries and beans were a perfect pairing. Plenty of food for the two of us. But had no room for dessert. We will have to return to give that a try. I come all the way from Dallas, Texas every March to eat at my faves for my birthday. Felix's was such a let down this time around and a total waste of my trip. They were out of everything I wanted to order, and everything I ordered was horrendous. From the food to the drinks. Sad to say I have to let them go. It was absolutely horrible. The "Alabama" chicken wings tasted 3 days old and the Alabama hurricane tasted like sewer water. The ribs were extremely dry. Never again. read more
Great Southern comfort food! This place is really really good. It's not Texas BBQ but they do have delicious stuff. They have a wide assortment of dishes from the south... They got Cajun and BBQ! That's the best combo! I had a mixed BBQ plate with four meats, brisket, pork, chicken and tri tip... You get the Southern sides... Collard greens, black eyed peas, Mac n cheese, red beans n rice... Oh. Complimentary warm cornbread muffins! That's what I'm talking about! Very hard to find good food like this in socal. Epic. Both times I went they had live music playing. It kinda reminds me of places you'd visit on the Gulf of Mexico like Louisiana or Mississippi. I've been twice now and can't wait to go again. Definitely worth a shot if you're in the area. OK, so Felix is a BBQ hits the comfort food craving that I have every once in a while. Every single thing we ordered was solid, even my son's kids cheeseburger disappeared immediately, and he is superduper picky. I will say the brisket I ordered was a little dry, but the collard greens were unreal.. hands-down, the best I've ever had. Perfectly seasoned and absolutely full of smoky flavor, additionally my partners catfish nuggets were crispy outside juicy on the inside and the mac & cheese was very well done and full of flavor. Just a tiny little knock for the brisket, but I'll be back and I think I'll be able to redeem themselves. Good service, friendly servers, and delicious food. read more
Weekday lunch, had to catch the specials! We were seated immediately by a cheerful young man in a gigantic booth. After some time perusing the gigantic menu, I ordered the $12 blackened catfish with one side. It is quite a bargain these days! I ordered sweet potato fries and collard greens which was an extra $3 for the second side. Very reasonable. The catfish was very moist and tender, I actually wouldn't have mind it a little pan sear. The sweet potato fries were crunchy and perfect, and the collard greens were impressively flavorful considering they were not loaded with bacon. Server said it's a turkey broth. I could taste a little bit of crushed red pepper too. I would call this a fantastic pot liquor! Husband ordered the brisket platter ($24 which was not a lunch special) and it came with two sides so he got baked beans and potato salad. The brisket serving was so large he brought home six slices and had them the next day. The brisket did not have a lot of bark, but was very moist and had some edge fat that had to be removed. The barbecue sauce was already applied, and was not offensive but we do prefer a spicy sauce. Beans and salad were good homemade versions. Our cheerful server brought me ranch and kept up with coke refills. What more could you ask? He was was also our cashier at the end. A wonderful Birthday celebration! We had an absolutely wonderful experience at this restaurant. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was welcoming, and everything was prepared perfectly. I especially want to recognize our server, Mariela, who was outstanding. She was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. Her professionalism and warm personality truly elevated our dining experience. Excellent service like Mariela's makes a big difference, and she deserves special praise. Food was super tasty, flavorful. We ordered the pulled pork sandwich, fried chicken bacon sandwich, ribs, green salad, sweet potato fries, sweet potato pie, and pecan pie. Good pricing, average $15. My last visit here was pretty good. It was a quiet Friday evening and we came just after roller skating near by. So I was hungry after burning those calories! We were initially kindly greeted by the musician that was wrapping up his evening and Connor was our server for the evening. He did great answering all my questions that I had about some menu options. I went with the sampler as it turned out to be. Great option to share! I chose the Tri-Top among other things and really liked how it turned out. I especially enjoy when they have live music here. I was a tad bummed the guy was already done for the evening. I've other musically inclined friends who come here from time to time too so I'll definitely be back for that and the sampler platter! read more

This place was absolutely amazing!! I came on a Tuesday evening, where there was a live saxophone player, and it was such a vibe. The jazz music was great. I was told that they have different people come in and play other instruments on the weekends as well. The people that worked there were really nice, especially our server! She was very helpful, kind, and knowledgeable. Our food came fairly quick as well. The food was fresh and delicious. Their menu is packed with several different options to choose from. As a starter, they bring you corn bread that is soft and fresh. I decided to get the sampler platter, which included 4 meats and 4 sides. I chose baby back pork ribs, fried shrimp, sautéed shrimp, and the tri tip. As far as the sides, I got mac & cheese, collard greens, baked beans, and candied yams. My partner got the half of rack of beef ribs with catfish, and his sides were mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. I would give everything overall a 9/10. This place is great and I would highly recommend it! We usually love Felix's! We bring our family and always recommend this place. The service today was not good. It started off well, but once our server dropped off our plates, brought napkins, she did not return until my husband and son was done eating. My Gumbo plate was less than appetizing, and I couldn't get the chance to flag our server down to let her know, she was not even circling around us keeping an eye. At the end of our visit, when she FINALLY returned to make her rounds to clear plates she asked if anything was wrong with the Gumbo. I let her know I did not care for it, and she said she was so sorry, she would take care of it and asked if I wanted anything else. I thanked her, and asked for the Cajun Pasta to go. After another 20 minutes, she returned with the to go order and the check. She said because her manager was not in, she couldn't comp the Gumbo meal. At no point did she let us know that before bringing the pasta and check, obviously we wouldn't have ordered an additional entree had we known our other one would not be taken care of, as she advised. My favorite menu item is the sweet potato waffle with a side of sausage. The waffle is executed perfectly with just the right amount of crunch and sweet potato goodness. Overall I prefer to eat breakfast here. Our last visit I tried the fried pork chops with county potatoes and eggs. And now this is my second favorite menu item here! The crunchy fried batter is seasoned nicely and goes well with the brown gravy. The little cubes of potato's have just the right amount of crunch versus softness inside. The chicken and waffles are really good. Chicken is tender, juicy with a flavorful crunchy outside. I prefer the sweet potato waffles because well they are just phenomenal. Nothing wrong with the regular ones mind you. I just got spoiled with the sweet potato version. They have plenty of parking available and outside seating too. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Plus the inside is nicely decorated with various prints and paintings. read more

The food is flavorful. Spicy would not be an adjective used for this style of food.

I am not particularly sure on this question, I believe it's a party of 8. However I am sure they can definitely make it work. Excellent place to be.

What is the Sunday brunch buffet setup like?
The buffet is set up in a room separate to the main restaurant, we have been there and would thoroughly recommend. Ensure it truly is for brunch and you haven't already eaten because you will leave very full!
