Things have really changed with the new owners as the food and beverage quality isn't what it used to be. I ordered a brandname gin martini and it was so watered down and asked for it to be redone. The second one was still watered down. Not sure what's going on with the watered down gin. Also, the food is OVERLY salted! We could barely eat the steak bites with mushrooms. The service was good but didn't see any of the regular staff the night we went so maybe they have staffing issues. read more

We sat at the bar and enjoyed our server Dillon. He was extremely busy but waited on us we ease and professionalism. Soup was smoked pork with a tomato base corn and a touch spicy. Balanced perfect. We tried this place several years ago and although the food was good, there was a strange odor in the restaurant that was off putting and that was the last time we ate there. We were on a trip for a wedding in Vancouver and staying nearby when my BIL found this place by searching "new American" on Yelp. I have to admit, I didn't have super high expectations. But they blew my expectations out of the water completely. We had SUCH a lovely evening. The server was fantastic and the food....ohhhh the food. It was thoughtfully prepared and extremely delicious. This bistro is located in an adorable little area of Vancouver with a small-town feel. A quaint little convenience store and gas station is right next door and so many beautiful trees were in full bloom all around. It was picturesque. Two small gripes. They would not split the check, only evenly, which didn't work for us since we had a huge family and another was just a couple. We just had a family member put it all on a credit card and we paid them back. Second, the kids meal come with a drink, so we asked for root beer. We were brought a bottle of fancy root beer and charged an extra $3. Had we known, we would have chosen something else for him. He's 3...he doesn't care about the fancy root beer. These issues would not keep me from visiting again, however. I only mean my criticisms constructively. 2/16/23 Aprox. 2pm... Our first time here. Entered the bar and the only person visible was a customer at the counter. We waited 2 min. No employees. Customer pointed to the restaurant. We entered restaurant. No employees. 2 female customers were sitting at a table drinking water. We sat at a nearby booth and waited 6 min. A blonde braided server walked up, no smile, no Hi Welcome and very dryly said "Can I help you ?" We responded with "Yes we'd like to eat." Still with no smile or welcome voice she said "Well you can't sit there. I have it reserved for later." We got up. She walked over to reservation desk, looked down for a few seconds and announced we could sit at any of the tables. They were all empty. We sat down. She dropped menus on our table and promptly left. SO disappointed. We wanted to support our local business so we ordered the advertised daily special Shrimp Louie salad. The $16 SIDE salad I got is NOTHING like the picture on their website, and is certainly not a Shrimp Louie salad. The small salad I got is mostly lettuce. There is no bacon, no cheese, no cucumbers, no asparagus. I have three green beans, two tomato wedges. Dressing is not on the side but plopped on top. This was to be a special dinner for us, and now all we have is a small lettuce salad with a few bay shrimp. When I called the response was to give me a refund. What I wanted was the salad they had advertised. Hard to imagine staying in business with such false advertising. Pictures show the difference between advertised and reality. read more

We were on our last day of our honeymoon mini-vacation and we wanted something good and hardy. Problem always is finding a good restaurant with REAL gluten-free meals. Not just a GF menu that has a salad on it. We were shocked at how much Farrars had as far as Gluten-free. And best part....GLUTEN-FREE DESSERTS! And of course drinks. Gluten free options abound, but my pulled pork GF sandwich bun was a very soggy sandwich wet with coleslaw and overall extremely sickeningly sweet. Husband's chicken bowl just meh. Husband's cider was maybe only 5 oz which made it extremely expensive for such a stingy drink. I am gluten sensitive and was ill within a couple of hours and continue to be sick a couple of days later. Husband's salmon wontons very disappointing tiny smoked salmon on a small triangle of fried wrapper. My Brussel sprouts with bacon were delicious and the very best part of our meal. All considered, we certainly will not be returning here and can not suggest this restaurant is aware of how to safely handle allergens. read more

The menu isn't huge but a great variety. Everything we ordered was yummy. The French fries are the best!! The cocktails are really good. Made really well. High fives to the bar tender. The fried pickles were similar to what we've had in Nashville, pretzels and cheese was perfect, and the steak bites were delicious. I was hanging out with my partner and we decided to put in an online order and pick up the food to try this place. I was blown away with the customer service skills when the manager called to check to make sure I had ordered was correct (I had ordered the salmon salad and was thinking it came with a filet of cooked salmon) and even went the extra mile to customize my order. Nice restaurant with a separate bar & lounge area. We stopped by for a light "lupper" on a Saturday and their happy hour had just started so we lucked out. It was just us and one other couple in the lounge area so it was quiet and the food came out quick. They had about 12 beers on tap to choose from along with a full bar & cocktails, wine, etc. We shared the Smoked Salmon Wontons & the Margherita Flatbread Pizza. The Smoked Salmon Wontons were good, but they aren't the stuffed kind of warm fried wontons (just in case that is what you were expecting)... theirs is a cold starter with the smoked salmon & a cream cheese spread served on top of a fried wonton wrapper. The Margherita Flatbread was also good, but not quite what we would call a traditional margherita style, at least not like at any other place we've had. Their Margherita Flatbread is a red sauce (good sauce) with a LOT of mozzarella cheese, barely a scant sprinkling of fresh basil (it needed more fresh basil, for sure) and then a drizzle of balsamic. The crust was good & the flatbread tasted good, just wasn't what we were expecting when we think of margherita pizza. One thing to note as it was unclear where to park. On one side there is a parking lot for a salon and on the other is a gas station and we didn't see any signage on either side to indicate where patrons for the restaurant should park. We parked on the salon side & the host told us that was okay based on the time of day, so I gather it is not always okay to park on the salon side. So, if in doubt, park on the gas station side. read more

I would give this place a 3.5 star rating if I could. What sinks it from a 4 star review to a 3.5 is the temperature. We were seated by the window, which I always enjoy when I go out to eat because you can look outside and the lighting is nice (yeah, to take pics of my food, deal with it). Ummm, turns out it was FREEZING in there. At first I was okay, but after about ten minutes I became irritated by it. The place is seemingly freezing in general, I'm not sure if it's just because it's an old building, or if they're too cheap to turn the heat on in the winter (this was when it was about 30 degrees out around Christmas time). My hands were frozen by the time we left, because obviously you kind of have to have your hands ungloved/out of your pockets when you're eating! The atmosphere is nice here, besides the cold obviously. It has a nice rustic feel. But not overly so. The service was a little weird. The girls working there clearly did not want to be there. We stood there for quite a while at the door, waiting to be seated, no wait staff in sight. When we were seated everything was prompt, but still very "meh". Nothing I'd necessarily be super upset about, and they weren't rude at all or anything like that. It was mostly their tone and facial expressions. I also understand that it's a job and people aren't generally super stoked when they're at their jobs. Maybe someone was rude to our waitress right before we got there, I don't know. So I wouldn't dock this place for slightly lackluster service. Wasn't good, wasn't bad. The food was good, and a pretty good price. I got a cheeseburger and the meat was done perfectly. The only thing was that it was very, very drippy. I hate when burgers do that and I don't know about the science behind that (like what makes that happen sometimes). The fries were great! They were thin and amazing! My mom got the grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. The grilled cheese was good but it wasn't hot enough when served to her. In my opinion, a grilled cheese is best served piping hot to really appreciate them. The tomato soup was very good! Actually, I think it was a tomato bisque. Whatever! We came here on a recommendation from someone that my mom knows who lives in the area and frequents this place. I prefer to do curbside pick up with my schedule but lately it's been harder to find a place to park. People going into have dinner park in curbside. Although we have lived in the area for a long time, this was our first visit to Farrar's. We had just come from the Mt. Tabor Brewpub after their lazy staff refused to seat us. No such problem here. The service was prompt and friendly. I had the brisket, and it was quite good. Prices are on the high side, but no more so than the aforementioned craphouse. My only complaint is the lighting. It was once an Oddfellows hall and is still lit like a barn for some reason. We'll be back, maybe during daylight hours. read more

Ordering form here was very disappointing. I have wanted to try this place for quite some time and was incredibly let down. I used the menu the business owner had uploaded on Yelp to place a pickup order over the phone. The first two things my wife tried to order they said they no longer had, and so she ordered the tequila lime shrimp. When I got there to pick it up they had my part of order correct but instead of the tequila lime shrimp they had it as a side of shrimp because they no longer had the tequila lime shrimp. Rather than telling us the first time or calling back and asking us to change our order they substituted it with a side of shrimp. The meal was supposed to come with shrimp skewers rice and guacamole. A "side of shrimp" consisted of maybe 6 shrimp in a container of butter. I told them I didn't want the shrimp, so they took that off the bill but still gave it to me. We also ordered smoked salmon wontons which were not what we expected, the salmon was fine but they were sweeter than I expected. I ordered a fish sandwich and fries for myself, since my wife didn't get food we were going to share to. I thought the sandwich was fine, but she did not like it much. As a team we agreed the fries were absolutely terrible. They were very dense and didn't have much flavor. After getting home with the food I wish I would have just left the entire order when they told me they didn't have the tequila lime shrimp. read more
