Great service and nice atmosphere inside. Outside you are in a grocery store strip mall. The food was good/ok and wasn't hearing anyone really rave about their meal. I got the halibut fish and chips and the batter was heavy and nothing special. It said beer battered but had no flavor at all. I normally love halibut but it was just lost in this thick batter. Service is relatively consistent (good), with the servers being very friendly and attentive, no matter how busy the restaurant is. They (used to?) have complimentary Habuelas Doughnuts for first time visitors and people celebrating a special occasion (birthday, anniversary, etc). They still do that for special occasions, but maybe they have stopped doing it for 1st time visitors, because three server asked if we had been there before... Let me start with the ambience, it is gorgeous inside. The chandeliers bring a very nice touch, it's a vibe. The open kitchen view is great. The bar is great. We got the abuelita's doughnuts to share, and I got a fried chicken & waffle. The doughnuts are ricotta doughnuts with a berry compote and powdered sugar on top. The donuts on the inside are very soft and moist, definitely recommend. For the fried chicken & waffle, the chicken was fried perfectly and had perfect amount of seasoning on it. Last night in Portland and we were looking for something not to heavy for dinner. We found this great restaurant right across the bridge in Vancouver. I would give this place five stars on the service alone. They were very charming and accommodating to make sure we had an enjoyable experience. We first started of with the seared scallops appetizer that was their special that evening which was a hit. We also tried the roasted carrots which were surprisingly really good. My daughter and I decided to share the halibut fish and chips and a Cesar salad. We did not asked them to do this for us but the split both of the orders for us and provided each of us with our own sides. Their chicken and waffles were very good and their clam chowder was really good with a light broth and large clams. Being our first time here, they gave us their signature donut desert. The doughnuts were very similar to an Okinawan doughnut. I will definitely be back here next time I'm in Portland. read more

My BF is a big Amaro's Table fan and so is my coworker who is very picky,so I know the chef caliber is probably similar for their Cecilia restaurant as well. It's in an upscale urban mall with a very clean, happy, hipster vibe. We sat at the bar to avoid a 30 minute wait on a Saturday morning. Everyone was shockingly cheerful and happily took our order, answered questions and refilled his ubiquitous Sprite. I had given up my idea of seafood that day because he was looking forward to trying the Tres Leches French Toast so you know what he ordered. I impulsively picked the Garden Hash with no peppers. We've tried several French Toast in Vancouver since we got here about 4 years ago and this was one of the best, he said. I had a mouthful and it was good. The bread was sliced very thick and it didn't seem soaked with any milks so I wasn't sure what qualified it as Tres Leches. My hash had fried potato cubes, with butternut squash, my two over medium eggs and hollandaise sauce. We finally got to Cecelia to try their dinner. Note--they no longer serve happy hour. We sat in a booth in the bar and ambiance is lovely. Except, why do they have a tv with a football game on? Doesn't seem like the vibe. It wasn't very busy on a Sunday evening at 6:30, but we had made a reservation and were sat immediately. Our server was Brittany, the bartender. She was excellent! Knowledgeable about the menu and made fantastic cocktails. I had the Ondine and the hubs had the espresso martini, both were delish! We split the scallop appetizer and the mushroom pasta with grilled chicken. The scallops came with four and I cannot say enough about the flavors and seasoning--divine!!! Seared to perfection! We came for a late dinner on a Friday night and there was ample seating with no wait. The restaurant is located in an outdoor business/mall parking lot just east of downtown Vancouver off SR-14. It's fairly easy to get to from Portland as long as there's no traffic. We ordered a beet salad, a bowl of cioppino and the halibut entree to share along with a couple of adult beverages. The beet salad was pretty standard, no complaints and the cioppino was pretty good but nothing to write home about. We did really enjoy the halibut entree! One of the rare places where the eggs are seasoned beautifully and so you don't get any plain egg white texture or flavor. I really wanted to love this place. The food tasted amazing, but the overall experience was frustrating enough that I'd normally give one star -- I'm only giving two because the kitchen did a great job. We visited today for a 9:45am reservation for brunch with two friends, and it was also a one-year anniversary brunch for someone I'm dating and me. I ordered the Garden Hash (no hollandaise) + added sausage and had "The Plenty" drink. The kitchen absolutely delivered -- the food itself was excellent. But the service was a mess. It was very busy and crowded, and we had long waits with almost no check-ins. Between waiting to order, waiting for help, and waiting again for drinks, I honestly left hungrier than when I arrived because the gaps were so long. I'm dairy-free and gluten-free and asked for recommendations. Our server tried, but suggested multiple items that didn't fit those restrictions, and I ended up having to sort it out myself. The drink situation was the final straw: I ordered a second drink with a small modification. It took so long I finished my food, and then we were told my original drink had been delivered to the wrong table and had to be remade -- and the remake still wasn't what I asked for. They also brought out complimentary anniversary desserts (pictured), which would've been sweet... except they contained ricotta/dairy (and likely gluten). After discussing dietary restrictions, bringing a "complimentary" dessert I literally couldn't eat felt like a slap in the face (my friends could eat it, I couldn't). On top of that, the restaurant was extremely loud -- and staff were yelling directly next to us, to the point that it physically hurt my ears and my ears were ringing after we left. I tipped 15% because I understand being slammed, but being busy doesn't excuse ignoring dietary restrictions, incorrect drinks, and a lack of basic table attention. I'd only come back if the service and dietary awareness seriously improve. Oh my goodness, how have I not reviewed Cecilia yet? Hands down, our favorite brunch spot. Not just in Vancouver. Between Portland and Vancouver. Period. Parking can be a little challenging, so I recommend going earlier. Even with reservations, you might wait a few minutes because it is always popping. That said, it is absolutely worth it. I almost always get the fried chicken and waffles with the house made hot sauce. That is my go to every single time. Crispy, flavorful, perfectly balanced. I do not even try to switch it up anymore. My friend swears by the seafood omelet. We have also shared the Dutch baby, which is fantastic. The Abuelita donuts are great. I have gone with someone who ordered the cheeseburger and loved it. The chilaquiles look amazing too. They do not have a huge menu, but what they do, they do exceptionally well. Service is consistently strong. There is one server we always hope to get, longer hair, possibly Latina, and she is phenomenal. Honestly, out of maybe ten visits, there has only been one time where service was not great. That says a lot. We always order mimosas. I prefer mine heavier on the orange juice side since I am a lightweight, and they always accommodate. I have never left disappointed. Everything was just so/so. I was really excited to try Cecilia's because we love Amaro's Table and they are owned by the same person/family/group. It is just as adorable as Amaro's table but the food... well, it was not even close to the same flavor and quality experience we have come to know and love from Amaro's. We ordered the Breakfast chiliquiles and they were, quite frankly, bland and gross. The meat was the only redeeming thing about them so we ate that off of the chips. They could have done so much to add to the flavor of the dish, but it seemed they relied solely on the meat to carry the rest of the dish and it simply did not. I have made better food at home for way cheaper. We also ordered the chicken in waffles thinking that Amaro's fried chicken is so good, this has to also be delicious.... Nope. Wrong. The waffle was dry and flavorless (eggo waffles taste better than Cecilia's) and the Chicken breading had ZERO flavor or seasoning/spices to it. Now that being said the chicken was still nice and thick and moist under the breading but without a well seasoned breading it was like eating a nice piece of chicken without seasoning... no ma'am, no thank you. It was all utterly disappointing. Service was so/so. Having been a server I try to look around and see the big picture of what our server is dealing with, before placing any judgement there and I will say our server was triple sat all at the same time.
