Outstanding breakfast find for us off Hwy 1 in St Augustine. Low key, attractive and most importantly - great food. We tried the bistro bagel, the French toast and the breakfast wrap. Each were expertly done with great flavor. The French toast was cooked to perfection with crunchy edges everywhere. Real Maple syrup and homemade cream perfected this meal. The bagel was excellent, thin crispy and perfect for holding the fried eggs and delicious sausage. The cheese and salsa made it alternately spicy and sweet. I'll report more details when I eat the next one a little slower. A nice surprise was some live guitar music and the incredibly friendly staff. Definitely a new favorite. read more

No air-conditioning, water dripping from the ceiling which apparently has been leaking for a long time based on reviews - filthy place - tables are sticky - employees have sweat dripping down their faces but are working hard - would not recommend this place- Denny's is across the street - and, just an FYI the owner of this place loves to argue. My sister has been wanting to try City Bistro for some time and I'm always up for coffee so we went with my mom. Beautifully handcrafted espressos and coffee beverages. Definitely recommend any of them. This is definitely more than a step up from a coffee shop like Bethany N. remarked in her review. They offer specialty teas, gourmet sandwiches, paninis, flatbreads, wraps, chowder, bistro salads, specialty plates, homemade pastries, a variety of bagels, beers, wines, smoothies, and gluten free/vegetarian/paleo/vegan food options from locally sourced ingredients. In addition, they have local raw honey, coffee and art for sale. Overall, City Bistro is a awesome find if you're in this area of St. Augustine. Parking can be a little tight depending on when you go. Plenty of inside and outside seating with big comfy couches and chairs as well as high and low table top seating for individuals and larger groups. This place definitely has the vibe. We were greeted by a list of menu items they ran out of and adjusted our order accordingly. We were informed they were out of chicken as well after placing and paying for the order. Not a solid first impression. The hand written sign on how they prefer cash was another red flag of trouble. Other negatives include the hotel lobby quality coffee and frozen soy milk used to make a hot soy latte. The single use plastic cutlery and plastic containers used to serve sides in was a nice touch of cheapness and clear disregard of environmentally awareness. My breakfast sausage and toast was cold and the roasted potatoes were overly seasoned. The grits were decent so they do prepare something well. Overall this place is in clear trouble. The kitchen can't time basic food prep to ensure the entire meal is served hot and fresh and the lack of available menu items are clear indicators of current and future trouble. The use of ultra cheap single use plastic utensils and the hand written sign of preferring cash shows a lack of class and potential financial issues given the high menu item cost. To run out of multiple items at once is incompetence that was repeated with the order execution serving cold items. Save yourself time and money...check out any other place but here. They do not execute good food at the menu price point. read more

Outstanding breakfast. I'm super picky and love breakfast. I had the Farmer's breakfast. The grits were the best I've had - light and creamy and maybe a bay leaf. Good crispy bacon. Perfect scrambled eggs and they had gluten free toast. As an added bonus they sell this Datil pepper sauce you can only get in St. Augustine. Food was disgusting. Service was worse. Stand in line to order and could not quite understand the person. Ordered the egg platter two eggs over easy with sausage. My husband got frustrated and decided it would be a coffee day. Breakfast comes to the table with no silverware and two scrambled eggs. I don't eat scrambled eggs. She explained they only had one cook and he doesn't do over easy eggs. She then pointed to the silver ware and left. I walked over to get the cheapest plastic silver ware I have every seen. I then told the girl I don't eat scrambled eggs. She went to the table took my plate and 15 minutes later came back with my plate and no eggs and cold sausage and potatoes and a receipt showing they took the $4.30 off for the eggs. Since we had already paid there was no way to argue so we left and walked across the street to Denny's where we both ate nicely. We were hoping to have a St. Augustine experience. We arrived at around 7:45 for breakfast and immediately was told to wait until 8 for the kitchen to be open. What kind of place advertises that they open at 7 but don't really do anything until 8? Simple dishes with great flavor and presentation! The wait time was none for seating but for service it did take about 15-20 minutes. We were a group of 6 and most items were made fresh to order so it makes sense that it would take a bit longer. We came for brunch on a weekend, so some item ingredients sold out but despite this their menu options were still varying. We had dietary restrictions which were met well for vegan family members and healthier eaters. They had plenty of healthier options and the flavor was never compromised so that was awesome. I ordered the breakfast wrap with bacon and their yogurt which came with fresh fruit and granola drizzled with honey in addition to extra honey on the side. Everything was simply delicious, simple ingredients I didn't expect to come out so flavorful and amazing! Definitely expect to visit again. Ordered a Salmon bagel and a cappuccino with soy milk. Didn't like anything except of the bread. So, the bagel: it does not have any taste at all, too much cheese which I feel like was a mix of an actual cream cheese with something else (to make more product). Absolutely no authentic taste. Cappuccino: don't expect to taste any coffee - it is just coffee-sh water and milk. I don't recommend this place. At least food here. read more

My medium rare burger was straight up raw. Not like, they missed temp and it was more of a rare. We're talking not even holding its shape because its still mostly just pressed raw ground beef. Raw. Bit of an issue. The topping pairings make sense, if it was cooked right I think it would have hit. Then it took 25 minutes to get bagel sandwiches despite the place not even being busy. And they were served to us on dirty plates. When I commented to the server, she was quite rude. Updating this review and adding a star as a manager kindly reached out the same day I left a review. Two wraps, one sweet tea... $34 My husband says three stars is to low and 4 is too high. Wrap was decent sized... it was $10 for just the wrap or $13 with a side. Wrap includes egg, cheese and one other protein. If you want to add one more protein, like portobello, you're looking at an extra $2.50. A 16oz tea was $3.50. I might expect this at a sit down restaurant where they are bringing you more refills, but not at a place that charges for water cups and I have to wait in line for refills. On the plus side, it didn't taste instant. We don't drink coffee, but there seemed to be flavored sugar cubes like cookie dough available to add to your drink. Looked interesting. So, upon review of the receipt there was a surcharge for eating in. It was only $.50, but it's still obnoxious. If anything, you would think to go orders would have a surcharge since you are less likely to get a tip and it needs containers. Which.... Our food came in to go containers, which I found to be extremely wasteful and overkill. If you're the type of place that is doing local food I'd also expect you to be a little more waste conscious. A metal flat tray with a wax paper on top would be easy to clean and better. Staff was hit or miss on friendliness, but they were def understaffed. They do have seating outdoors, but they need a sun shade, half the tables, including ours, we're being blasted. read more

Nice out of the way place for breakfast in Downtown St. Augustine. Plenty of parking. My girlfriend and I both had the vegan Beyond Meat breakfast sandwiches. Mine had egg and cheese though. Flipping delicious! Cold brew coffees as well. If you're looking for a plant based alternative (they have a great selection of meat options too) restaurant around old town this is it. Food was good (we ordered the breakfast plate and the breakfast wrap, plus 2 regular coffees - nothing fancy). It took about 10 minutes before we got the coffees and about 25 minutes before we got our food, which was not hot. Will say, the grits were fantastic! I went to the counter and asked if they had jelly; answer: 'yes' ... the young lady made no effort to get any. When we were finished eating i went to the coffee counter to ask for a to-go box, but poor timing on my part! The same young lady, who didn't get the jelly, had a free moment from making coffee, so she went to get her phone and started texting. She did not acknowledge that anyone was at the counter; texting was clearly the priority over customer service. After at least 3 minutes of my standing there (I wanted to see just how long this would go on) she finally put down her phone and started helping customers again. This was the first place my sister and I came across as soon as we arrived at St. Augustine, and boy were we starving! Luckily this place really hit the spot! I was craving a sandwich, and since I love pesto and mozzarella, I went ahead and ordered their chicken sandwich. I was shocked the generously sized grilled chicken breast I got that was dressed with arugula, tomato, mozzarella, pesto, and pressed between a ciabatta roll. It definitely ate like a meal, but it was relatively fresh and healthy. It even came with a small side of tomato salad. I had the sandwich with a monster sized cold brew to help wake me up and get over my caffeine withdrawal from that long car trip. This place not only has a good selection of comfort foods, it also sells local goods such as chocolates, spices, and local honey. Since i was trying to be frugal, I didnt buy the honey or chocolate, but it was awfully tempting. My sister got a bowl of sone kind, which she adored, but it was so big she couldn't finish it.
