Worst pedicure ever!!! It started with an ornery older gentleman working the front desk. Then the woman doing my pedicure told me she would give me a spa pedicure for $45. The "spa" treatment ended up being 20 minutes of her trimming my nails, cutting me at least twice, and applying nail polish poorly, some even ending up on my skin. I was then taken to the dryer and my payment was collected. I said "That was a spa pedicure?" to which she replied yes because she had put salt and lotion on my legs. I was left at the dryer and the lady came back after a bit to put some weird oil on my feet. She tried to put my shoes and socks on my feet but my socks and shoes were soaked. Walked in for a refill on a Wednesday afternoon. Place was quiet and I was immediately seated. This is not my normal place but I'm in town for work and it was convenient. The entire process took 35 minutes. The "massage" that is part of the manicure was a scrub that literally lasted 20 seconds! Seconds!!! I was told to wash my hands, thought to myself, now here must come the nice lotion massage. Nope. I was done to the tune of $44. Ridiculous! My regular place takes such good care of their customers and the average manicure is $25. French is $35. I can't believe what I just got. I will never come back here again. The nail tech I was assigned too had a stinky attitude. The sad part is I rarely get to go out and treat myself being a stay at home mom. I could of saved $65 + tip for this horrible paint job and filing of the nails. The people were nice but I don't like to be upsold. I wanted a simple pedicure and a full set Acrylic with gel polish. Why is this so hard to get anymore? What's included in a pedicure? What's included in a manicure? Is that different than a full set ? I have a problem with the add on cost for every step of the service. Providing a set price and a list of what that included would be nice. The yellow paper they have the price list on doesn't explain the service or the extra costs. Why charge more when a client is getting a service that should include the steps in a manicure. You cant glue false nails on a hand that hast been prepped with a manicure. So you charge 49 for the Acrylic with gel and than $20 for a manicure seems a bit excessive to me. Than I paid 55 for a pedicure. The only difference in a regular pedicure was green mask and hot towels. Gave the staff a 25 tip because she did a nice job on my nails and provided a service. Just wasn't meeting my standard of care for a spa. I didn't really receive anything special. Even the high cost pedicure was over priced. I wont be back because I do not like to be taken advantage of by business's that need to do better in the service they are giving. I work hard for my money. This used to be my go to nail salon several years ago, however, I stopped going because I moved out of the area. Since trying out the salon again in the past 6 months, service and quality have declined. The past three times I've been here, I've had negative experiences. Visit #1 of 3: I stopped in the salon for for a gel manicure/pedicure. I was expecting the same quality and relaxing experience that I was used to from previous visits, however, this was not the case. The technician seemed rushed and she very roughly buffed the skin around my nail making it red and irritated. She event broke the skin on a couple of my fingers, causing them to bleed. There was no massage involved like before, and it just felt like they wanted me in and out as quickly as possible. When I got home and examined my nails more closely, I noticed they were not smooth and had tiny bumps that looked like bubbles on them (both hands and feet.) The polish on my toenails was unevenly painted and was sloppy. Some of my nails were not completely covered by the polish. One day after getting the gel manicure, pedicure, my nails were already chipped and pealing. I've gotten gel manicures/pedicures several times before and I've never had this issue before. I called the nail salon to let them know what happened and they said I could come in at any time and they would fix it. It was inconvenient to go back in because I live an hour away, but I was traveling overseas the following morning and I wanted to have my nails fixed before leaving and made an appointment. Visit #2 of 3: When I got to the salon, I asked the woman at the front desk (appeared to be the owner or manager) if they could fix my nails. I showed her how the gel had completely come off on two of my nails in just a day, and she seemed irritated that I would even ask. She initially told me that they could not help me because the technician who did my nails was not in that day. She told me I would have to come back another time when the technician who did my nails was working. I told her that this was not an option because I was going out of the country the following day and I did not live close by. Reluctantly, she said they could fix my manicure but not my pedicure because it was too "time consuming" to do both, she "could not afford it," and that "they do no work for free." I was surprised and taken aback at their customer service, thinking that I myself cannot afford to pay almost $100 to treat myself to a gel manicure/pedicure that only lasts one day. The technician who "fixed" my nails removed the remaining old polish off my nails and quickly painted them. It was a sloppy job and I immediately noticed the small nail bubbles in the middle of my nails. A few days later, the new gel polish was already peeling off. I ended up going to another salon and paying to get them redone. Visit #3 of 3: A few months later, decided to give Fancy Nails another chance since I was in the area and had some time to kill. I was hoping it just bad luck before. Again, I got a gel manicure and pedicure. Two days later, the gel was already chipping and pealing off my nails. By the end of the week, almost all the gel polish had peeled completely off my nails. It peeled off easily, like a sticker. The mani/pedi was over $100, not including tip, and did not last last one week. I have an event coming up in next couple days and now will need to pay to get my nails redone somewhere else, again. I've given up on Fancy Nails after my past 3 visits with bad experiences. The customer and quality is not what it used to be. So disappointed. read more

*Sigh* Another cute lil asian lady salon, which I love, but another bad review. Let's begin... I was trying to give my 9 year old daughter a mom & girl day and decided to get our nails done together. We enter and the place was really busy, no one at the reception desk. We wait. Chat amongst ourselves. 36 minutes later, a woman approaches. (OK, so not really 36 minutes). She was very friendly. I stated my business and she showed me to a station in the back. My daughter gets a super friendly reception from the lady she was taken to, because she's incredibly cute and everyone loves her. The lady I get? Let's just say that I've had friendlier reception from a castrated, pissed off pit bull. I tried to warm her up a bit and chatted, but she gave me answers/grunts/noises that basically told me she was not in the mood for this shit. She was really rough with the drill bit and then asked me if I wanted all this other shit done, too. I kept saying no, and she finally shook her head. Her reaction? Pissed. She then kept insisting that I needed a new set, not a fill. I told her that I just got this set a few weeks ago in Sydney, and told her no. Her reaction? Pissed. I tell her that I want my nails thinned out and not left this thick. Her reaction? Piiiiiiissed!! She grabs my hands and I swear to Jesus I see flaring nostrils at this point. She works away at the 10' thick gel floor that she applied earlier. Eventually, she throws my hand back at me for approval. It hardly looked thinner. I asked her, stressed to her, that it was important for me to have my nails much thinner, just for every day needs! Scratching my head, picking my nose, scabs... Our nails are human necessities! Her reaction? Pissed as HELL. She worked away again, like a little soldier. After about 57.75 hours, she threw my hands back to me for approval, I just agreed. Fuck it. they were much thinner, but definitely not as thin as I wanted. For the sake of the salon's safety from death by ol' firenostrils here, I gave up. I got the topcoat and was told to go sit at the dryer. My daughter joined me and I noticed she had gotten 4 designs hand painted on various nails. Very cute!!! It was time to pay. My daughter's nails? 5 EFFING DOLLARS FOR EVERY SINGLE DESIGN THAT WAS PAINTED ON! They didn't ask me! They asked a freegin 9 year old??! Of course she was going to say yes! And yes! And yes! And yes! And shit, she probably added, "do you have any candy, too?" Her bill was $40.00 and mine was $35.00. I tried to argue that I was not asked for approval to have all of these designs painted on, but no bueno. Eventually, the lady actually walked away and I was left standing there! She didn't even take my payment, so at this point, I guess I could have just walked out of the salon! I had to go hunt someone down and found a man that was not tending to another victim and asked him to assist me. He barely spoke a word of english so I said fck it. Paid and left. To my daughter's credit, she thought the designs was just them being nice. They never mentioned a price to her! This place greeted me with a "Don't eff with me look" and raped my wallet, what's not to like?! read more

The 1 star here is for general competence; my nails did look good when I was done. However, it was a very negative experience in other ways, namely, as other reviewers mention - -the relentless upsell. Went in for an acryllic fill, listed as $16 on the price sheet. Do you want a pedicure? Oh, no thanks, not today. You sure you not want pedicure? No, really, I can't. This went on and on until I finally said yes just to make the haranguing stop. Similar continuous, sustained badgering for eyebrow waxing, etc. As other reviewers also mentioned, they ask you questions as if the are PREFERENCES, not PURCHASES, but they are in fact PURCHASES and you will be billed even though they never mention a price. Any question that starts with, "Should I" or "Would you" has a add-on fee. Lastly, while I appreciate a friendly technition, and am happy to engage in light banter during the service, my nail tech's version of what constitutes a polite conversation could have easily been mistaken for a prison intake search. The entire experience was combative, intrusive and a rip-off. My initial request for a $16 acryllic fill ended up being a $120 reminder that big, pushy bullies can come in size 4 packages. read more

I've been here three times now. It's decent, but within walking distance from my house - and when it comes to convenience, you can't really beat the proximity. Service is always decent, prices are steep, and I think they really try to swindle you out of every dollar they can - watch out for the "I'll clean your cuticles for you too" which will add the price of a manicure to your bill... I go every 3 or 4 weeks for "Pink and White" nails, and they always look great, I always get compliments on my nails, just hate paying $30+ every time I go. The plus side? Went in for a pedi yesterday and was extremely disappointed. After changing my initial decision to have a French pedi I asked for a purple polish instead ... THE TECHNICIAN SAID NO! We had not even started and yet (she had literally just sat me down)I was not allowed to change my mind! After that she asked if I wanted salt scrub. I said no thank you and she put it on anyway... For $4 more. Once again ignoring my request. Then came the tools. I asked her to not shave off the rough spot in my heels and just use a pumice stone. She said no, that would take too much time and shaved off the rough spots with a metal tool from a common cart that I have no idea when it was autoclaved last. It was gross. The pumice that she used to polish my feet was the same one the tech next to me has used in her client and was just rinsed in the water. I was insanely grossed out. The French tip polish job was rushed. I asked for the white polish to be a little less long/bold since my toe nails are quite short and it looked a bit odd. Once again she said NO and that it would "look bad" if she changed it. I think she just wanted to keep the pedi to less than 15 minutes. Had I not had a gift certificate I would have refused to pay. The technician was rude, the hygienic practices were horrible, and it was a rushed, incomplete pedi. I will not be going back. Ever. read more

Ah yes what a great spend of $45 to get my dip nails removed which consisted of them being ripped, yes I mean literally ripped off (ouch!) and a gel manicure which was literally my nails just being painted. Oh, and the nicest touch was the addition of lotion. Worst ever! I had gel tips put on... They are ragged around the edge and have glue chunks underneath. She did no work at all on my cuticles, no hand or arm massage. They charged me for a French polish, but the nail person simply polished up the new tips & called it a French manicure. Arguing with them created a scene, so I paid and left. The pedicure doesn't look smooth at all, so the polish must have been old. Now I'm stuck on a Saturday night trying to find and pay extra for someone to fix-it before I go out. Additionally, the salon was filthy. The place where I get my dog groomed is cleaner than Fancy Nails. Also, the pedicure chairs are the worst, all taped together with really poor massage. read more

My mom, sister and I went here a few days before my wedding to get mani/pedis for the big day. I called a few days in advance for our appointment and they got us in no problem. The salon is huge! We walked in and were immediately sat in 3 pedicure chairs next to each other. This was my moms first pedicure, she giggled the whole time and loved it. After our pedicures we had our manicures, I got a shellac French, my mom got French, and my sister got a regular manicure. Previous reviews about speedy and quality work were right, my shellac was done first of the three of us! All of our nails looked great, my manicure stayed on and looked nice for a little over two weeks, even lasted through our honeymoon cruise! Their prices are what made me come here from Reston. I think $26 for shellac is very reasonable. I don't get my nails done very often, but for events I'll sometimes treat myself. I'll be coming back here for my next manicure. read more

I tried this place as I used live close by. To sum up my experience: 1) Never get waxing! I've had my eyebrows waxed several times, but the last time I got my eyebrows waxed, skin was pulled off. I had a scab on my forehead for a week! 2) Manicures are RUSHED. I wanted to get a simple manicure and the woman spent a total of five minutes from start to finish. 3) Services are pushed on you! No, I don't want to get my upper lip waxed. I didn't appreciate the comment of "You need to wax your lip." Actually, no, I'm good. Thanks. 4) The place smells of chemicals! I've been going here fairly regularly for about six years now, and it has its ups and downs, but unfortunately last night's manicure was a pretty major 'down.' I'd had a french manicure done with the shellac polish. Pro: great-looking french mani for almost three weeks. Con: they have you soak your nails in straight acetone for 10 minutes and then scrape the polish off--along with a few layers of my nails. Not ideal, but not the fault of the salon. I also had one gel tip that I'd had put on a few months ago when a nail was breaking very, very low. In the manicures I've had since then, they always use the drill grinder thing to thin out what's left of the gel as it grows out. Even though I asked, the tech didn't do it. Result: I now have bits of the gel flaking off the tip of my finger. My nails are rounded on one side and squared on the other. There's a definite diagonal line on every nail. I asked her to fix it and she ran the file over them again without actually doing anything. As others have said, this place is upsell hell and they do get majorly pissed off when you decline extra services. I'm guessing the reason I got such a shitty manicure is that I declined a pedicure, a spa manicure, a sea salt rub, and waxing services in rapid succession. Because asking the tech to, you know, do her job wasn't working, I told the guy at the front counter that my nails were a mess. He responded by grabbing my hands and rubbing at my nails, saying that there was nothing wrong with them and giving all sorts of weird reasons why I couldn't get them filed straight. I don't think he really understood what I was saying, but still--when a customer is unhappy, the first words out of one's mouth should be something involving "sorry." The only thing that'll probably make me go there again is that they're less expensive for the basics than other places in this area. But be prepared to stand your ground on the upsells and expect attitude when you turn them down. read more

The only reason this place gets two stars is because they're cheap (for the NOVA/DC area). My nail tech. was in an awful hurry to slap my nails on. You could see ridges and even a few bubbles through my set- no good. They insisted on using one of those power-driven nail-killer sandpaper machines (which is NOT nessesary- I've had mine hand filed in a more gentle manner and they DO stay on). The "gels" they put on me, like most places around now, where actually acrilics with a layer of gel over top of them. They weren't the worst nails I've had (and I've had alot), but things like bubbles and over-filing can lead to infection. I would and do pay more for better service. read more

I have been going to Fancy Nails for nearly 20 years (since before it moved locations in the same shopping center). I love this place! Everyone remembers me, even when it's been a while since my last visit. They always do an amazing job, and wait times are never too bad, even for a perpetual walk-in like me. Chin is the best at shellac manicures! I usually don't have a preference for my pedicures because everyone is great! The owners are a married couple and have been doing this forever. They are super sweet and very talented. My mom swears by Tammy, but she too will take anyone if she isn't available because we've never had a bad experience here. What I like about Fancy Nails is that you can walk- in and get service relatively quickly. I've rarely waited. But this is really the only positive of this place. They are extremely pushy about their "spa pedicure" services and add on services in general. I always get a gel manicure and am always asked over and over again about getting dipped instead. This past time, the gel manicure took a lot longer than it needed to because my manicurist was gossiping the entire time with other ladies that came by. She would stop what she was doing to talk. It was completely rude. However, what will stop me from ever coming to this place again is being unsure if they sanitize anything. I watched her take a tool out of drawer to use on my cuticles and nails and then put it back in the same little pouch it came in and put it back in her drawer. No effort to sanitize or clean. yuck. The salon is consistently understaffed, by design, which is why the wait times are so unnecessarily long. Staff don't make eye contact, they aren't focused, take too long and are easily distracted. Called prior to sending my uncle there for a bday pedicure. Was told a regular pedicure is clipping and buffing nails, cleaning cuticles, scrub, massage lotion and polish. My husband and I have probably had over 500 pedicures and have never spent less than 45 minutes in the chair. My uncle showed me a video and called me 27 minutes after arriving saying "thank you" and he's done. According to the customer, he soaked for 10 minutes, clipped his toe nails, she applied a scrub and used a pumice bar on the bottom of his feet, dried his feet and said - okay your done. Fancy Nails for nothing! I should have known there was no attention to detail by the oversized, mis- shaped bulky nails on the reviews. Waste of $30. Never again... read more
