When I walked in it was smaller than I expected, but it was comfortable! It wasn't big and overwhelmingly busy, and it wasn't small and cramped or jam packed. It was good! I had a 1:00 PM appointment with Cindy, the technician I specifically requested. I arrived at 12:55, and she acknowledged me, asked me to pick out my color, and seemed busy helping another customer. I assumed she was helping out her coworker because she was busy or something. Once I sat at her station, I let her know I was in a hurry. She started applying the foils, then unexpectedly left to continue working on the other customer. She didn't return for about 10 minutes. When she came back, I calmly asked why she was working on two clients at the same time during my scheduled appointment. She responded loudly, saying, "That's how I do it," and then abruptly said she would remove my color and I could pick another technician. Then she left. Another technician came over but Cindy never returned. I remained seated in her chair, confused and shocked. Eventually, I was told no one else was available and that I would have to wait. It was disappointing--especially because I've always requested Cindy and trusted her work. Thankfully, Famy, who had been communicating between us, stepped in and offered to do my nails . She was incredibly professional, kind, and skilled. In a way, I'm glad the situation happened because it gave me the chance to meet Famy. Used to be my favorite place and I was a regular for at least a year. But I went there recently and they didn't follow reference picture. I said that the length and form is wrong, they said that taking off would ruin my nails. Thus I continued with the service even though I acknowledged that I'm not happy about the nails. Then they wanted to charge me for the full set $65. When I said that that's too much for the service that wasn't even done properly, they started to gaslight me that it's the same as a picture and that I was showing a different picture before. Also the lady, who was doing them, left me at the registered, ignored me, and never returned. Rating a 2 because I've had only 1 worse experience. To be honest I'm not a review person and typically let bad experiences go, but this place made me feel awful. I saw good reviews and thought I'd check this place out on my way home. Immediately I was greeted by Vera who tried to upsell my manicure before I said anything, and asked what color? I asked to look at their colors and she gave me one color book, when I asked to see more she said "well what color? Red? Green? Yellow?" And I was pretty thrown back, I just said I don't know can I see more options and she took the book I was looking at away and brought me another book (again, I know they have plenty more, and I usually like to browse and compare and not be so rushed). She was SO rough with my nails (which are naturally very long) and did not handle them with care. I've never worked with a nail tech that was so rough. She hardly looked at me and only talked to her coworkers in Vietnamese (briefly stopping to sort through her cash to exchange with coworkers, which I also thought was pretty rude). The entire experience was extremely rushed and overall did not make me feel good. There were other little things that rubbed me the wrong way but I won't get into it. Honestly I'll never come here again, and do not recommend this place at all. I prefer the places that feel more like they actually care and want to make a good impression. Nails turned out okay, but definitely not worth the money I paid. read more

*Update* I was really hopeful that this would become my go-to nail place, and for a few months, it was. Kate is exceptional as a manager and brings a professional, charismatic brightness to the shop. Unfortunately, I don't believe the rest of the team shares the same goals when it comes to providing services or communicating with their clientele. Personally, I don't need much, just a clear understanding of what I'm requesting to be done to my nails and if the person can fulfill the request. Last October, I made an appointment in advance and explained that I was part of a wedding party. I wanted medium coffin shaped neutral tan-to-white ombre, and I was told it was "no problem!". However, after a while it became clear that she couldn't achieve the ombre effect. Since I had already waited so long, I ended up leaving with short, square tan nails. I would have preferred to know this from the start and would have been fine going with a nail technique more within her skill set, instead of wasting hours of my time. A couple of weeks ago, I had an acrylic set put on, and they were beautiful! After about 12-13 days, I was due for a fill. Six days after the fill, all of my nails started to lift and get stuck in my hair. Two nails even popped off. While not a huge deal, it was frustrating. I scheduled an appointment to have them professionally removed and give my nails a break. The same technician who did my fill six days prior started to remove my acrylic nails. The process was painful and damaging to my real nails. Post hurting me multiple times because she was attempting to pry the acrylic off my real nails she then thought she should soak my nails in acetones. She left me to sit next to her while she attended to another client. At this point she stop communicating with me at all, and blatantly ignored me. As the time passed, my nail beds started to burn from sitting in the acetone for too long. I took my hands out of the bowl & began removing the remaining acrylic residue myself. It was sliding right off since I had been soak for about 20mins. Another technician came by without speaking to me and took my hand to finish the job, insisting that my nails needed more time in the acetone. Despite my discomfort & that I was able to remove the residue myself, she told me to put my hands back in the solution without making any effort to really remove anything. At that point, I was completely done. I went to the register to pay, but no one acknowledged me or even tried to explain what was happening to the manager. At this point, I had paid over $60 for a fill that didn't last more than 6 days, and I had wasted over 30 minutes being treated poorly just to leave with my fingers on fire. Well... this was my third time coming here. I walked in about 10:45 for a mani pedi. I usually do designs on my middle and ring finger. Khue( not sure what she goes by) did my pedicure and was great. Kim did my nails. Kim really tried to sell dip instead of Gel. Assuming there is more money. I declined. She complained my nails were too short, however the design came out wonderfully. At checkout, there were "upgrade" charges of over $40 dollars worth. They explained that this was due to the design. Mind you. This was my third time coming here and was never charged an upgrade fee nor at the start of the appointment was I informed. I was pretty disappointed in this visit today. Each previous visit, I would do ring and middle finger designs. So I assume this up charge is up to the technician and not salon policy? With that being said, if there is an "upgrade" charge, this will take away from my tipping. Let's really look at this. Gel nail polish bottles sell for less than $10. You are being charged over $55. Just for gel. You use only a fraction of product in the bottle. Oh. Not to include the actual manicure charge of $45. Then $40 for "upgrade". Hmmm. I hope my next visit goes well. I would stick with one person. That was my fault. You try to schedule a person on the online booking only to see they aren't there!! So I've had about 6 different people. I'll stay with one person. 5/9/22 Today I met Amy who seems to be the manager of Hollywood Nails. She has a way she carries herself when I met her. Today Amy is my nail technician and epilation technician. This place has gone through a major restoration changing everything about how this place looked before. I gotta hand it to Amy. The bathroom looks good. I especially like the sink with the waterfall style. There is even a fountain display in the bathroom that would look great if it were in operation, but alas, not today. My feet haven't had a pedicure for a while and it feels great to be pampered once and a while. My feet are being restored after pisspoor treatment. I take care of them, but not on a daily basis. Guilty as charged. Thank you Amy. next step is the my manicure and Amy brought me over to her station. I was surprised that she did not use a towel, cloth or paper towels when doing the manicure. Just the basics I guess. I did ask Amy if she could please use different tools from the ones that did my feet. It is something I have been doing for the past year or so. Amy did so. I did not see the new tools come out in bundle pack, but rather out of a cleaning station. It will have to do. Amy did not make small talk with me, because I guess this is not her style. She talked to me when things needed to be said or asked. Okay cool. Not the best manicure I have had, but not the worst. Now that it is all said and done, I might get them buffed before going home. Normally I like to get them buffed, but I did not ask this time. I might do so.e before I go to my final destination. Finally, it's time to take care of dark forest (meaning my backside. Having done male grooming, the dark forest was all that is left. I detest having anal pubic hair dispite the reason for it. Amy does waxing, but I guess doing male waxing wasn't her cup of tea. She stepped out of the room and a fourth woman of the group named Katie ended up doing my waxing. I am not sure if she has waxed men before, but she did a good job after several tries. Practice makes perfect, but I sensed her patience was wearing thin by not removing all the hair from my butt. The clean up was quick and dirty. She seemed to want to be out of the room like Jumping Jack Flash. The total came to $100. After tipping Amy, Katie said good bye like Anne Robinson from Weakest Link. It felt cold and unwelcoming. If this was her intention, she succeeded. Nevertheless, i will still get my nails buffed, but elsewhere. Update 5/10/22 Last night upon checking myself, I found wax on parts of my anatomy that were missed. The green gel that Katie used did not get the job done. The sloppy clean up job caused some discomfort and I had to use baby oil and leave it on my skin overnight. This worked and I feel better today. Gel pedicure was good but the nail techs do not know how to do gel x properly. I made an appointment for gel-x & gel pedi for myself and gel mani & pedi for a friend a month ahead. The appt started great. But when my tech got to doing my gel x, there were 2 fingers she kept having to redo because there was a huge air bubble when curing the gel tips (it won't last long and it'll end up lifting). I was really understanding because I know gel x has a big learning curve and it was Black Friday. They brought over Hanna to fix it but it took 2 more tries. One of the times, she had to redo because she cut it too short. She didn't bother checking the length and shape of my other 8 nails that were done perfectly... then she shaped it more narrow than the first tech so I asked her to just have the other 8 match the 2 she just did. She was giving me attitude and being rude when this was not really my fault. After sitting there for 3 hrs (3:30-6:20pm) and being treated like that, my patience was running out. I still give them 3 stars because the first tech was nice and did a good job on my pedi and the 8 fingers. My friend liked her gel mani & pedi. So if you get reg gel mani & pedi, you will be fine. I've been going to Annie for years now and was happy to follow her to Hollywood Nails, even though it's 30 minutes from my house, because the shop is always clean, cheerful, and all the techs are helpful and skilled. They can literally do it all, from basic polish to 3D art, and they have waxing as well. The pedicure treatments are always great and you can book your own appointment on their website, which I love. The location is great and is in the same shopping center as several restaurants, so you can make a day of it and treat yourself to boba, noodles, coffee, or pastries after you get your nails done.
