I urge you to think twice if you are considering renting at this location or any other. Someone broke into my unit and stole two paintings, a large box that contained my son's new (1) school clothes for this fall, a (2) brand-new set of towels and (3) books, and photo album of my kids when they were young along with (2) two very large and expensive hampers, and my flute. Their answer, "sorry to contact your insurance". My belongings were here from July '18 to September 19 and despite some issues with the manager being available in the office at times, I never thought my belongings were in danger of being stolen. When I vacated the unit last month, I realized that items were missing. I have rented at Public Storage over the years so many times and in the worst neighborhoods and have never had anything missing. One of the reasons I opted to get this unit in Studio City because I assumed that paying more in a better area my belongings would be safe. I also opted for this facility because they told me they had security cameras and an on-location manager. My lock was intact. There were no signs of obvious entry. The manager, Tom, told us that the burglar was able to climb over the top of the unit. I still do not know how they'd pull all of those large items through the top. There isn't that much space for it. In addition, it doesn't make sense how they were able to leave and it not be caught on camera. In fact, I won't ever know because both Tom and Paul, the district manager keep giving me the runaround when I ask if they found any footage of the person carrying these things out. It really broke my heart to find that the flute my father bought me when I was 12 was gone. I had been renting an instrument for a time and my father decided to purchase an instrument for me. I remember my parents fighting over it but he was so proud to give it to me. My hampers were huge and gorgeous. I bought them before I put them in the unit. They measure 28 wide x 14 deep x 27 high. A grown man would need to hold them with both hands as they are over 2 feet tall and wide. My hampers are huge, surely someone would have seen these things carried out. The box that is missing is an oversized box as well. When I asked Tom how this could happen he said there were a few burglaries a few weeks back and the robberies occurred without tampering with the locks. There was a small space above reach unit, but it did not appear to be wide enough for anyone to squeeze through let alone to push my items out. He admitted only to being aware when other renters on my floor contacted him about their missing belongings. When I asked why he didn't all the renters on this floor know, he said he didn't want to send renters into a panic. I guess he wanted to experience that panic to his face. I asked if there was any footage and he expressed that there were cameras only at the gate/entry points. He did not confirm or deny that he saw any footage on the security camera. I called a few days later and I asked about a police report to which I received no response. Thereafter I called the regional manager, Paul at the North Hollywood location, who told me that he would "look into it" and take a look at the security camera footage to pinpoint the date that the robbery occurred. He said he would go to the site on Saturday and to call him that next week. When I called him 3 weeks later he just said he didn't find anything. When I asked about the police report he told me that I need to file a report on my own. How do I do that if you won't give me a date or any footage? Talk to a psychic? When I asked him if their company would pay for my loss he immediately said contact your insurance. He said that I elected to not buy their insurance. And that was it. Extra Space simply wants me to go away and to figure it out on my own. My insurance isn't the issue here. The fact that someone is taking someone's belongings and they dont want to do anything about it is beyond me. In addition they don't want to cooperate to help find out who did it, or stop this from happening to others. To date, I do not have a date from them to file a police report or any recourse. I did everything in my power to keep my items safe with a proper lock. The space above the units is not my responsibility. Extra Space needs to do its best to secure each unit and when one person gets robbed to do their best to protect the others from it happening to them. On the upside, I received more compassion from the customer service employee that forwarded my complaint to Paul. Both Tom and Paul give you the impression that it's all about the business and the numbers. They don't care about your "stuff". That's on you. If you don't mind having to buy your stuff all over again, rent here. If not, find an enclosed storage unit and a company that will security cameras they use and not for decoration or the sake of getting your business. read more

Do not rent from Extra Space Storage. 1. Hidden in their agreement is that they can (and do) raise your rent at any time. 2. After ONE MONTH at the advertised rate that I signed up for ($167/mo) they raised it by 50%!!! 3. Without notice!!! 4. Only when I called them on this did they agree to a PARTIAL refund, and would not guarantee future increases would not happen. THIS IS A COMPANYWIDE POLICY AND TACTIC SO IT AFFECTS ALL LOCATION, NOT JUST THE ONE I RENTED FROM. They will always use the same language: "From time to time customers may be subject to a rent increase due to the competitive blah blah blah." There's no "time to time" about it. They will IMMEDIATELY AND SUBSTANTIALLY GOUGE YOU after you sign up. This *IS* their business model. read more

My unit was broken into, and several thousand dollars worth of items were stolen. I filed a police report, and the manager on-site did absolutely nothing to help me, offered me no discount to move into a new unit, and barely acknowledged my grievances. My company had a storage unit for over a year and today we cleared it out. During the move out, I threw out some old broken CPU's in the dumpster. After signing the papers and was about to leave the lot in my UHaul, the front desk manager asked if it was my CPU in the dumpster... He told me that those needed to be recycled and brought to a center in Sun Valley. I took it as a suggestion about being green at first, but he started to sound serious and his tone changed to a pompous dick real fast. I took out a couple CPUs that I was able to reach from the top of the dumpster. He said it wasn't good enough, he then blocked my gate code. He said he refuses to let me leave until I send my two day laborers into the dumpster and remove everything. He then told me that there's a sign above the dumpster- I told him "I know, I read it!" I read every rule about "no furniture" or leaving items outside the dumpster. There was nothing about "electronics" anywhere- I clearly didn't know and was nice about it at first. After 2 years of being a customer I leave with some guy being a dick and trapping me in a parking lot. Maybe it's just me... But that was so fucking crazy that some guy locked me in. That's getting physical to me! Fine, send me a bill, add a fee, don't act like an asshole and hijack us. It was hot, we worked all day, I left the unit spotless. The day laborers heard him act like an asshole and offered to jump in dumpster and we removed any we dumped. It was plastic and cords mostly. I paid the movers extra and got the fuck out of there. I don't know if there's a no electronics law in trash- it clearly was unintentional and maybe if it means they'll lock customers in they should be up a sign that says much more than "no furniture". The dude was insane and we just did whatever the fuck we had to get out of there without more trouble from them. I can't even say how much of a crazy asshole he was. CRAZY! read more

I'm not sure if I should be writing this review or not, but here goes: I was looking for storage space and called these people. I got a super annoying person on the phone at some call center who went through her prepared script, saying annoying things. She answered the phone with: "It's a beautiful day here at Extra Space Storage, who am I speaking with please?" OMG. Seriously? I asked her to stop using her script and to answer my questions. After some runaround, I got the info. She asked if the number I called from was the best number to reach me. I said "Don't reach me. Lose this number. I don't want spam calls from you people." Arrggghh. Whatever happened to people talking to each other like people instead of corporate robots? I didn't want to be on their mailing list or their phone call list. So, 5 minutes later, as I was getting ready to go check the place out, my phone rings. Guess who? "Hi, this is Tom, the manager at Extra Space Storage, and I -- " "No, thanks, Tom," says I. "I've already found a place and I won't be needing yours." This seemed to puzzle him since he obviously just got told to call me. I wanted to ask him about the negative Yelp reviews in which people mention him by name. I mean, it must be weird to be mentioned in these reviews. But since I would never get to know Tom and find out for myself, I resisted the impulse to ask him about his alleged imprisoning of customers (I'm sure there are two sides to this story), and said "I'm good for storage now, thanks." So, I never actually went there. Based on the super annoying corporate weirdness and phoniness, I never will. I was mad that they called me after I specifically asked them not to. People who don't respect you are not the kind of people I want to be trusting my stuff to. Not that my stuff is super valuable -- I'm not storing the Mona Lisa, or the Ruby Slippers from the Wizard of Oz, or the fake semen in the hair from There's Something About Mary. But still, it's my stuff and I'll need it someday. Plus there are a million of these storage spaces, and I don't want to reward the ones that are super fake and spam you with phone calls. I don't know where to start with this location. I just moved all my stuff right down the street to Public Storage. My grievances are solely with Tom, the Manager at this location. Michelle (I believe this is her name ) who works on Friday and Saturday is amazingly nice. Its ashame that this company lets Tom be the manager because I am sure they lose plenty of customers because of it. One Sunday Afternoon I went over to go my unit because I was selling some of the stuff I did not need in it. My gate code would not open the gate. My partner had to no choice but to reach over the fence and open the walking gate. Yes, what great security if you can do that. Now mind you my unit is on auto bill to my credit card and completely paid current. So we are upstairs about a half hour cleaning out our unit when my partner and I could sense someone was being sneaky and was very close by. For our safety we carefully started looking around to see if some one else was there when the very tall manager, Tom, jumps out from behind and corner and asks us what we are doing. We politely told him we are removing some items that we do not need anymore. He then started accusing us of not paying our rent and trying to break in because of that, etc. I explained to him that our gate code would not work and we tried the courtesy phone and no one answered. I also explained that we only have off work on Sundays and this is the only day of the week we can come together. He then went on about how he was going to call the police, etc. cause we are stealing. We then showed him both of our IDs and asked him to verify the account. We were about to call the police ourselves. He went to the office. Came back upstairs and threw the ID's back at us and admitted that we needed to fix our gate code. No apologies nothing. Then the entire afternoon while we moved stuff out he watched us from his on site apartment window. I went back yesterday and closed the account. Judging by others experiences this man is a downright lunatic and is destroying his companies reputation. I liked my unit here and it was always very cool inside which is good for storing special items, etc that are heat sensitive. Unfortunately, due to his attitude problems they lost a paying company. I sincerely hope that someone at their corporate office reads this and disciplines this man. read more

I had a complicated moving situation and had never used Extra Spage Storage because I didn't know there was anything better than Public Storage. OMG I'm so glad I found this company and especially the manager. Tom Lasley! I went in panicked and right away Tom has such a calming spirit that all of my pre and post moving anxiety was dissipated. He offered great solutions and was exceptionally professional. The facility and the manager, Tom, are both excellent. The place is clean, secure, and convenient. Tom is so accommodating with finding the best options for our needs, and helping us manage the move in / around the facility. Prices are a little higher than other facilities but it's excellent value for what you get, in my opinion. I have had my belongings in storage several times.I have used different company's.Extra space in Studio City in by far the best storage facitily I have seen.Its always clean,well lit,temp is always cool.But the best thing about this place is the staff.Tom the manager has kept me there for the past 8 years.I probably would have moved my stuff because of the rent increase over 8 years.when I looked at other places there just was not the customer service basically Tom was not there.This is a great storage place.My wife feels safe to go there alone.I have read some negative comments on yelp.I have never had a bad experience there. read more

I rented a unit from them through the great online tool and got what I thought was a good deal for such a prime location. The manager was very friendly and the building and unit super clean. A few short months into the contract I got a notice that my rent was going up by a whopping 10%! Well over both the internet price and advertised in-house prices. Needless to say I do not use them anymore. Very deceptive business practices. There is no justification for increasing the rent that much in such a short period and so far above what others are paying. Stay far away from these greedy bastards! read more

This is a really wonderful storage facility. Very well run, bright, clean. Tom at the front desk helped me get a unit right away, explained everything very clearly, and was very professional-- in a relaxed, easy-going kind of way. When I came back with my movers, it turned out my shelves wouldn't fit well in the first space I chose, so he immediately helped me find another unit where my stuff fit perfectly. This is a unique storage place in that it feels very much like part of the neighborhood - friendly locals basically using it as extra closet space, or to deal with moves, etc. I had previously stored my stuff at Public Storage a few minutes west on Ventura, and I'm finding Extra Space more reasonably priced and nicer all around. I agree with the other reviewer who feels puzzled by the disparaging remarks about Tom - he is so organized and polite, he sets the tone for the whole place! An easy five stars. read more
