Finding a long-term storage unit in the Bay Area that doesn't raise prices sky-high is nearly impossible. I moved to this Extra Space Storage location after shopping around and explaining my past experiences with other companies. The staff was friendly, professional, and gave me helpful advice about calling when rate increases happen so they can try to freeze your rate--something I'd never heard of before but appreciated the transparency. I rented an 8x14 unit for around $140/month, which felt fair--until about 4-5 months later when it jumped to $248. That kind of increase was exactly what I was hoping to avoid, which was frustrating after being a long-term renter at other locations that stayed steady for years. Aside from pricing, the facility itself is great. The property is clean, secure, and easy to access, though parking at the front gate can get a little tight. They've also made noticeable upgrades to the doors and locks, which are smoother and much easier to use now. Overall, my experience as a customer was positive--the staff and security setup are solid--but the rapid price increases make long-term storage tough to justify. If you only need storage short-term, this is a great option. read more

Update. In less than 2 years they now raised my rate to $263. That's a 130% increase. Their rationale..."market rates". Buyer beware. They hook you in with a cheap promo rate, and then four months later increase it. And they don't ever stop. Honestly it's pretty criminal. I'm definitely moving my things this time. read more

Tony Tony Tony. What can I not say about how polite, professional, and customer service oriented employee in these times where people don't care, Tony shows that he's the best in this company. I had never had a bad experience. He even called me to say that my lock wasn't locked properly and was worried. Turns out it was my scatter brain's fault. Great person and would completely recommend if you need a place to store your valuables, do so with him. Only reason why I had left was we were moving far away and I like to have my belongings easily accessible. Tony I thank you so much for your hospitality. I know I copy and pasted my review from Google but I just wanted to make sure Tony knew how great he was. read more

We were looking for storage for our house furniture as we were in the process of selling and buying with about 6 weeks in between. Chris and team at Extra were super accomadating, helping us determine the best space and ways to limit our cost, whether upfront or monthly was the best option. We also realized we were short on space and Chris was able to provide more storage immediately, again providing our best options based on our need. The friendlness and helpfulness of the team here needs to be highlighted, I really got the feeling they love their job and helping people was very important to them. I would highly recommend Chris and the team here at Extra Storage. read more

This place is horrible. A family friend got their storage unit broken into recently, and they said that 12 other units were broken into as well. I was considering getting a storage unit here after they had told me about it a few months ago, but on behalf of my family friend I decided to write this review to help them out (as well as others) make their decision on wether this is the best place to get a unit (which it isn't). Apparently they don't have enough cameras on the premises, and the prices for storage are raised yearly, so where is the money going to? I think it's ridiculous that these guys aren't trying to prevent this sort of thing from happening. I'm definitely not going to try to sign up for a storage unit with these guys after hearing what happened to my family friend recently. Get it together! read more

Anna was amazing and so friendly. The deal we got was not bad at all. They were also really quick to help us.

Very helpful, easy access, nice people, best storage place I have used in last 30 years

No CCTV, even after several break-ins. Local staff are nice but corporate doesn't care about string of break-ins. No CCTV inside buildings. very insecure. read more

Anthony Parrish is the manager here and personally helped me find the right storage for al my belongings. Not only was he friendly and attentive, he made sure I received the best deal possible. We toured the units relative to the size I wanted and ensured that it wasn't too small or too big and even went to the length of figuring out which deal I would benefit from the most. He was super helpful and friendly. I was able to rent out a 10x12 unit that was easily accessible and more than affordable for the timeframe I needed. I used Extra Space Storage before but at a different location, so I wanted to use the same company and I was not disappointed. Regardless of location I was met with superb customer service. read more

DO NOT RENT HERE! NOT A SAFE PLACE! We had two spaces here in two separate buildings. Two months ago, one space was broken into, and the thieves busted through the drywall into the next space. On-site "manager" promised to fix the wall. It still isn't fixed, after TWO MONTHS, so my space #1 is not secure. The excuse? "We've been busy!" My second space was broken into this last week. When we asked about it, the "manager" said "see all those red locks? ALL those units were. broken into." ...There were a LOT of red locks. They don't care. There are no cameras in the halls, only the parking lot. They cancelled my gate code because of the break-ins and assigned a random 7 digit code. Ours was a memorable date, easy to remember. They denied that they made up the code, "we don't make the gate code, you did!" So I ask what my code is now, and the angry young man in the office said, "It's the one I gave to your husband." They won't put my code in. Snotty, sloppy "managers", uncaring about security at Extra Space Storage. If you've made it this far, go to West Side Storage on Lincoln Avenue. It's a real storage place. read more

3 months in and my rate is going from $90 a month to $144. Pretty disappointing when they boast promotions online with pricing stating lock the price in. But they don't tell you it'll change shortly after. After receiving the same notice as stated in a prior review, I doubt they'll do anything. Taking my belongings and business elsewhere. Not good business practices at all. Ontop of booking a 5 x 10 unit when I arrived to claim my unit, it's actually a roof storage unit with a huge slant which isn't a true 5 x 10. I accepted that and figured that's why the unit was discounted. Too bad I didn't read reviews prior to booking, would save me the hassle and money of having to move everything twice now. read more

I am continually impressed with the professional look, feel and cleanliness of the Thornton Way, San Jose property! The management is always friendly, sincerely accommodating and very professional. Tony, the manager, is busy daily being extremely vigilant keeping up on what's happening throughout the property. He and Chris are very helpful to us storage renters. They have created a very efficiently run storage facility. I have observed them working well together; they make a wonderful team. The restroom is always clean no matter what time of day. I have never seen debris or trash anywhere on the property. I have not seen any indication of rodents within my space. My unit has outside access and my door is always clean when I visit. While I am on the premises I always feel safe. Being a woman and there alone, that is very important. Though I know if I ever have a problem, I can rely on Tony and Chris for help. This storage facility is beyond the best I could ever hope for! Thank you Extra Space for having Tony and Chris at this location!! read more

Their main gate has been broken for 5+ weeks! No sign of repair and even the site managers cannot say when, if ever, it will be fixed. Recent vandalism and on-site "selling" out of storage units makes this situation worse. read more

If I was just rating the staff, it would be 5 stars. . Anthony was great. very nice and helpful. He made signing up for the unit super easy. The facilities are not great. The fence line is full of garbage and signs of homeless living on or around the property. I don't feel safe going after hours. The halls don't smell great, a very old musty smell, but hey it is storage so what can you expect. Overall it has not been a bad experience but for the price I would expect a little more. read more

I received professional service from start to finish. I highly recommend this storage space.

Oh Lord dont go here!!! I have been here for over a decade. I pay a ton of money for a huge unit. They raise the rent all the time and it is not by small amounts either. Here is the latest. They raised the rent and didn't tel me. They said they mailed me but nothing came. Then they sent my check back saying there was a raise. I sent the correct money back. Just before closing they called and said there would be a late fee of 90.00!!!!!!! DON'T GO HERE!! They have new management and it is a mess. Save yourself a heartache. read more

Recently rented a storage unit at this location and was assisted by Tony. He showed me a couple of units (observed social distancing) that would possibly suit my needs and told me that I could call-in to complete my reservation, as I was not ready to pull the trigger (no pressure, which I appreciated!). We completed the transaction over the phone when I was ready and he was very thorough and complete in explaining the process. He was kind to follow-up later to make sure my move-in went without a hitch. Refreshing to receive great customer service during these times...kudos to Tony!!! read more

I share a work storage space with a coworker. The customer service here is amazing. Tracy is so helpful. She takes our deliveries into our storage and even organizes them. Highly recommended! read more

Great storage place. Quick service, got my storage unit within 25 min. First months free!

This was my first (and hopefully last) need for a storage unit and I don't think I could've had a better experience. The person walked me thru the differences between the web rate and on site offer to see which was a better deal for me. I got a full walkthru of my unit before I signed. I was told how to use the freight elevator at the facility. I wasn't given BS for forgetting my code. I forgot to talk to the office about moving out my unit, but they took care of it same day. read more

The guy at the counter was unable to do most of the paperworks. it took hours. The unit was disapointing, way smaller than the "Approximate" size. and there is no way to get a refund for anything. They will also force you to buy a lock that you cannot return. The location manager Mike is powerless to solve any problem. and the district manager Mr. Mike Sinclair is indeed rude and will not listen to anything. They will take your money and not even try to understand the mistakes they do. Run AWAY read more

Location manager is never there. Phones always roll to vm and you can't leave a message. They have front desk employees who don't know how to apply account payments, are unfamiliar with their system and give incorrect information. The district Manager Mr. Sinclair is rude, unfriendly and has poor customer service skills. I will be moving my belongings shortly. RENTER BEWARE! read more

I have been with this facility for a while. The cost for storage at the time was good compared to others but has since changed (a bit more expensive for what you get). I am disappointed with the level of service I have received from this place. When we move our belongings we will not consider Extra Space Storage again. Consider other places first because as I have said before Customer Service is very important. read more

Very shady. They advertise a free rental truck online but when you call to reserve it they tell you it's wrecked, and so are the trucks at all the other locations. When you reserve rental units online some of the units are of unusual shape. An 8x12 should have 96 cubic feet of storage but they don't tell you on the web site the roof is at an angle cutting your cubic footage in half. Very misleading. False advertising. Would rather you cancel your reservation than work with you. Also will not honor your AAA membership discount even though they have the sticker right on the door...District manager gives great lip service, thats about it. read more

Now they say they will not give me a refund because I posted an unfavorable Yelp review. The store manager said: I am sorry for the delay in our response to you. After 3 attempts to get your refund check mailed to you, all 3 were rejected by my District Manager. We have a new software system that does not allow me to look at the status of refund checks. My only way of finding out if they have been paid is if I send an email to our accountant, and they research it. The only proof that we have that you gave a move-out notice was a phone bill that said you called us for 1 minute. There were no notes in our system that a move-out notice was given or that your credit card was turned off of Auto-Pay. Due to the lack of proof of a move-out notice, he is not willing to approve the requested amount of $106.35. He would be more willing to work with a smaller amount, if we hadn't seen this issue discussed on Yelp. read more

I have had a small unit here for a little over a year and when I needed additional storage I bought another larger unit at this same site. The staff is very friendly, helpful and professional, the site is safe and secure, and the prices are fair. The assistant managers Cheryl Wilson and Fallon Dominguez at this site are particularly helpful! I needed a lock cut and they put in a lot of effort and time to help me with that as soon as I arrived at the site! I tried to leave this review on Google but I do not have (nor do I want) a google plus account. read more

This is an excellent facility that's clean and well-maintained. It's under new management and they're working with updated systems. We recently moved from a larger locker to a smaller one to save money, and they handled the switch very conveniently. The building that we're in is air-conditioned (not all are so equipped) and convenient to access. We were unable to move on the first day we would have liked to, but they'd just repainted the hallway in our building. The hours are great, the cost is competitive and it's a clean, secure facility. read more
