We were robbed 3 times in a week on a half as they went thru the roof of another unit, brake into adjacent unit and then ours. We called police 3 times and the issue is because they didn't fix the roof from the other unit and when they were inside they just keep breaking in. every time we complain and the only thing we got is call police and report insurance. We have the insurance from Public Storage and until now we haven't received anything. There are no cameras read more

I can honestly say that my time with Public Storage has been one of the worst business experiences of my life and for several reasons. Recently, there were two break-ins to my unit, each one week apart. I was robbed of thousands of dollars of hard-won collectables and antiques. From the start of this incident the employees of Public Storage, including management, treated me with callous indifference. I got the sense that this happens so often the employees are inured to these experiences. In social psychology this is called apathy syndrome where everyone turns their back on the victim because of their shame over their powerlessness to protect the victim before or after the transgression. After I was alerted to the first break-in, nobody approached me to explain anything about the situation. Any conversation that took place or information that was exacted was initiated by me. This includes possibly changing the compromised lock housing or analyzing the video footage. Further, to my knowledge, absolutely nothing was done to change security or to advise me about my options. A customer pays for two main things when they rent a storage unit- a clean dry space and security. It is with hindsight that I can see that security is a joke at 175 Curtner. I obviously asked if the intruders had been identified on the videotape to which I was told that it is Public Storage policy to not look at the tapes unless requested by police. This policy screams Public Storage doesn't give a ****. Further, in the few years that I've had my stuff stored at 175 Curtner the main gate was broken and wide open for a significant amount of time, at least several weeks. In fact, within the week after the first break in, I remember leaving at about 7pm and finding the gate wide open for apparently no reason; for how long, I have no idea. The pathetic little lock that Public Storage uses was drilled out in the first break in. The fact that an additional lock can't be added to the slide mechanism is insanely irresponsible. In the second break-in the perpetrators went through the roof. Apparently, they were fully aware that this as an easy ingress point and came prepared. I was shocked to discover that the roof consisted of nothing more than one inch plywood. This was easily cut through with a cordless power saw and torn open. Also, the wall between me and my neighbor seems to have been incidentally pulled off the studs during the robbery exposing the construction of this wall being little more than a shanty. The only help I was offered was another unit to move my stuff into. This unit was smaller than the one I had and zero help was offered to help me to move my property. Also, the policeman that I spoke to in filing a report was unaware of Public Storage filing a report. If this is correct, I imagine this is because it happens so often that a burglary is just another Tuesday at 175 Curtner. Further, making a police report would increase the statistics for crime at this location which would be bad for business. I suspect that if Public Storage was honest and transparent about the pretense of security and frequency of break-ins and theft at this location that no one in their right mind would rent there. And then there is the continuous unconscionable rent increases which is tantamount to a bait-n-switch. There are the deteriorating weather guards on the doors which allow for a significant amount of dirt to blow into the unit and there is definitely black mold in many of the units. Last, much of the time employees are nowhere to be found on the premises with no way to contact them. I conclude by reiterating this is perhaps the worst customer experience I have had in my 50 years. 175 Curtner is the equivalent of a slumlord for storage. read more

Public Storage, what can I say about this location? Not a single good thing about this place brings any fond memories. The people who run this location are rude, short and very much lacking in their customer service. They obviously don't care much about their work and it shows. They will do the minimum when you move in and when you move out, they'll treat you like the relative they can't wait to get rid of. If you're looking to be treated like a friend or as a good client, go to the Extra Space Storage location at the 187 Sunnyoaks Ave. location, they'll treat you like a neighbor moving into a new neighborhood. The service is great, they go above and beyond to make sure you're getting settled in and they'll even call you after moving in to check in on your experience or if there's anything else you may need. I have been a customer @ Public Storage on Salmar Ave in Campbell for almost 30 years ... Over that time period I've seen managers come & go ... Most recently a great manager ended her tenure & left the company... I was somewhat disappointed to see a quality staff member leave & thought who ever was going to replace her had big shoes to fill .... Shortly after her departure one day I pulled up to the gate to see a young lady pulling weeds in the front of the property .... I thought to myself that was something I hadn't seen before in my long stay @ Public Storage ... This woman must be the new replacement I recounted to myself... I introduced myself & sure enough she told me her name " Angelica " & that yes she was the new Live In Manager.. Since her arrival I see her frequently patrolling the premises & taking pride in her new position ... I'm happy with the selection that upper management made & also have a good feeling of security for my property & vehicles in a time of increased theft & vandalism.... As soon as I clicked the reserve button on their website, eerily my cell phone rang. On the other end was someone prompting me to come to their location at an agreed time 4pm. Just to match their efficiency, I decided to arrive there on time, 4pm. While I waited for them to take care of another customer on my agreed time, I wondered why they even bothered to call me. At 4:45pm the person at the counter says, "Sorry for the wait sir how can I help?". Then he continued, "Do you mind if I take a payment from the person behind you?" After that person is taken care of, at an ungodly slow speed, I am stopped shortly by him telling another customer to go pay somewhere else. Finally, It's my turn Yay!!! "Sir I apologize but our system is down and I cant get you an entry code." Then his face goes blank. I wanted to disappear into the wall behind me. There was no remorse or personality. One woman is calling me telling me I have an appt. on Saturday to take a look, another is calling me to tell me that she's "sorry for the inconvenience" but they sold my reserved space to someone else because it wasn't prepaid, but then I get a phone call Sunday to say that my reservation is there and I should call for an appt. I came on Saturday at 11 and "office hours" are from 9:30-5 but no one was there all day. I'd been calling since 9:30. Thoroughly unprofessional. Perhaps if you do the whole thing without human interaction it works, but definitely don't rely on these people. read more

How can you be ripped off by Public Storage if you never even moved anything in? Well you can. I rented a unit on January 3rd, 2012 because I believed I was going to have to move stuff in on an emergency basis. I paid the rent, bought the insurance (required- another rip-off) and the lock (also required) On Jan 7, I had found a moving and storage company to handle my emergency, and I removed my lock, signed the papers to vacate, and since I had the lock on the door less than 4 days, I asked for a refund minus the days that the lock was on the door, and the cost of the lock. We worked this out, they credited my card and I paid them the difference within minutes of receiving a confirmation that they were crediting the account. All is well.right? On February 18, I received a notice from a COLLECTION AGENCY telling me to pay up $102.16. Sure enough, there was a balance showing with Public Storage for $102.16 although there was no explanation of what it was for. I called them and they said it was all a mistake and they would have it fixed in around a week. In the meantime, in less than a month, they sent a bill that I didn't even owe to a COLLECTION AGENCY. My credit score is really great, and I have worked for years to make sure it is and there are no derogatory entries on it. If something shows up from this, they will be sued. Regardless, their business practices are questionable in the best case. Don't trust these people. Don't trust Public Storage. read more

This was my first time renting a storage unit. There were a few surprises that I didn't know to expect, but would like to share with you. First, when you call and they tell you that the storage unit will be $1 for the first month with a $22 service fee, don't be surprised when you go there and have to pay $20 for the special lock you put on their doors (that really doesn't work on anything other than their doors...lame). Also, if you come in before the previous months over, they also charge you for the few days you're there in the other month (prorated at the extreme prices of $279/month or something like that). It wasn't as much as it could've been but it was all still a surprise after I heard $23 and paid about $100. Second, I want to mention one of the employees there that made me give this place 4 stars. Yesenia was so cool! She asked us about our situation and seemed to really get where we were coming from. I think this one is a keeper Public Storage. I went by yesterday to check prices and availability on renting for 2-3 months. I noticed the property was clean and appeared to be well maintained. I spoke with Cassandra in the office and I have to say, she was wonderful!! She actually, some how, made renting a storage unit fun!! She really knows her stuff. I was really impressed with how she knew sizes, availability and prices off the top of her head. She asked me a few quick questions, crunched the numbers, and gave me a couple options that would work best for me. Fantastic customer service which is rare, but very much appreciated, these days! I was burglarized TWICE. I Moved in on Oct. 1. I went to unit on Oct. 30 to drop off some stuff and found unit had been broken into. I informed Curtis who was of no help and totally unsympathetic. I spoke with him again the next day and told him door was damaged, which he had not even bothered to check. He said he would have door fixed. I also reported burglary and damage to door via Public Storage website. On Nov. 13 I returned to unit to pick up some boxes and found door had NOT been repaired and unit had been broken into yet AGAIN. Stay away from this place. read more

Such a scam! We were ripped off too! Someone literally emptied out the storage unit after the gate at the entrance was disabled. No one informed us of any broken gate until the day I showed up to go to my unit, drove right through, because the gate was open and saw that our lock was gone. P.S. said if I didn't have the lock there is no proof of forced entry! Unbelievable! No cameras, no security, no luck! read more
