Huge move from San Jose, CA to Daytona Beach, Fl. Coast to coast. I feel I dodged a bullet with many moving brokers trying to secure a contract through a hard sell and promise of *literally* unbelievable rate quotes. Doing further research I found there's a common and growing scam to quote low, then hold your stuff hostage until you pay surprise extra and extreme charges. Anyway, I went with U-Pack after researching the various container drop-off and load options. Contract terms were straightforward and no surprises on drop off. Both the start and end, U-Pack and their shipment team were super easy going with the schedule. Just call a day before drop-off/pick-up and they were able to make it happen. I had 3 cubes and two went to destination and the 3rd was stored by U-pack for a bit while I secured a longer term storage unit, and they dropped it off there. Make no mistake, packing and loading the cubes is a huge freakin' task. Do it in layers with large flat items working as "walls" to help hold stuff in. And ratchet strap each layer. A special call out to JW, the forklift operator in San Jose! He was one with that machine and able to maneuver with extreme skill and precision, including a very narrow and long driveway with tight gate and cypress tree. He's a magic man and was able to place the cubes perfectly between sidewalk and street and back yard driveway - saving me $ and headache dealing with the San Jose tax assessor regarding a permit if cubes block street parking and/or sidewalk. Other thanks to Skee (Ski?) at the drop in Florida. Also skilled w/ the lift and super accommodating on placing the cubes where I wanted. Finally, Gerry (Jerry?) and Lorenzo at dispatch. You'll be given a pretty huge window (like the whole day) for drop-off/pickup, but I'd give a call and they'd be able to narrow that window to a couple hours. read more

I rarely write Yelp reviews but we had such a successful experience working with U-pack en route from Palo Alto to AZ. Shoutout to our pod pickup driver JW! We'd realized we'd left a few things behind and I ran out into the parking lot to catch him. He helped take the pod off the truck so we could get a few more things in, helped us load them and even complimented my husband's packing skills ("great job, guys!"). Our drop-off driver was also awesome and placed us first in the pickup queue. Totally did not anticipate such excellent customer service from the multiple staff I had the pleasure of speaking with by phone. All things considered I found Upak to be a great value. I had a cross country move CA to NY and the process was seamless from beginning to end. I would have given five stars, except our particular container was involved in some sort of a minor accident. Once when we unpacked our things (which were professionally packed and secured with the proper straps) we had about 75% of our boxes crushed and numerous items, broken or badly damaged. But even so I would highly recommend the service and I will use it again. I only hope that our driver didn't sustain any serious injuries in whatever went on. Customer service start to finish was excellent and the process was easy. The drivers are real professionals. My pick up location was extremely difficult with a very steep driveway and they had no issues. My delivery location was also difficult as we have extremely narrow streets and a small driveway that he had to park the 28 foot trailer in. He did it in minutes with no issues. read more

U- Pack was the best starting from the beginning as we thought we wanted pods but were unsure of the size we neede. So we went to U-Pack to look at the pods and found out they also had trailers you could load yourself as well. With the trailer option if you used more room or less room it is okay as they charged by the amount of space you used. They provide bulkhead doors to place in front of your stuff. No one touches anything of yours and the space in front is used for commerce. They also have you can hire to load and unload the traile. I did not use this service. U-Pack was exactly what we needed for our move from CA to ID. They kept us on schedule and up to date with the U-Pack app. Professional service was provided at almost every step of the move. I cannot give them 5 stars because our agreement stated a "bulk head" would be provided to secure our load during transit. Unfortunately, the trailer was delivered with NO "bulk head" installed, only a ratchet strap. Thankfully, our household items were mostly intact, just minor movement/issues occurred during transit. The driver who delivered the loaded trailer to our new home, was most apologetic about the missunderstanding/miscommunication in regards to the "bulk head" being missing. I used U-pack to move from Los Altos, CA to Canada (Vancouver,BC) and it went very smoothly. The 4 containers arrived at my house on the expected day and time. All 4 fit the length of my driveway. We filled them, locked up the containers and left. They were taken away (without me being there), and arrived in a facility in Canada 4 days later. They sent me my paperwork by email to clear customs. I got it stamped by customs, sent it back by email and arranged delivery of my containers. I had the containers dropped off at a storage facility (Vancouver self storage). We unloaded the stuff and they pick up the containers the next day. The price was very fair, about what it would have cost for us to drive cross country ourselves. They use ABF trucking and the drivers and depots were the nicest people you could ask for. I would use them again. You can work with ABF trucking to have your trailer picked up when you need it, I didn't have to have the trailer in my driveway for several days. However, they Do Not work holidays and weekends and you need to make sure you can accommodate the trailer and ramp. read more

JW from U-Pack Moving delivered a shipment to us a couple days ago. We truly appreciate him! Our delivery was his last one for the day so we were worried we wouldn't get it since it was past 5pm. He kept his promise for our delivery date and went back to the warehouse to pick up the last load, before driving it to our house in traffic. I used Penske to move from Texas back to the Bay Area, but when I was ready to move back to Austin, the rates were so high I started selling my furniture. A friend who'd moved from San Jose to San Antonio told me about UPack moving. I got an online quote and it was very reasonable. The Penske site claimed the truck I'd rented got up to 12 MPG, and when driving their 16' truck in February, I only got 8 mpg. Moving in August would mean using the A/C which would probably lower the mpg to 6 or so. GAS was expected to run around $1000 for a 1780 mile drive! Using U-Pack, there's no additional charge. They only charge you based on the odd-numbered linear feet you use in a 29' trailer. The guy who dropped off the trailer in CA was very helpful, friendly, and pointed out information I'd be needing. Luckily, the section of residential street I was moving out of never had cars parked on my side or the other side of the street. If I'd been taking up other people's street parking space for the 2 nights, there could have been a problem. My only concern was that the pre-move planning papers indicated I'd need a pad lock of a certain size. The lock I'd used on the Penske looked like the exact size they diagramed on the papers I'd printed, but the move papers said I'd need 2 padlocks for the bars on the bulkhead. Luckily, the one I ordered from Amazon was a bit smaller on the shank diameter because my first lock was too thick to fit inside the bulkhead lock holes! The larger pad lock worked well on the trailer door for the over-night security of my boxes. The website was informative as far as where the trailer was going (destinations only) and I was called the Thursday after the pick-up and advised my things could possibly be delivered the Friday before Labor Day weekend, or they could deliver after Monday. I needed to have the truck over the weekend so my helpers would be available. UPack delivered Friday and picked it up 3 business days later. Driver very skillfully maneuvered the trailer into the long driveway of my house. Parking space is the biggest concern before you book but otherwise I'd recommend using U-Pack. read more

Turns out when they send you a text saying click this link to have the trailer picked up, has a slight 2 faced feature you the end user doesn't know about. You select pickup the trailer, and it processes and says your all set, BUT if you click the link again thinking it will show you status or the CS phone number, while it just deleted your trailer pickup out of the system without telling you, so now your HOA and everyone can enjoy a bunch of extra days do to the epic design failure of upack... This is one of the best experiences I've had moving and their customer service is some of the best I've ever experienced. The reps are responsive and solution oriented. They worked with us to find a creative solution for our move (truck wouldn't fit down our street). They send relevant and timely emails and texts so you know what is needed and where you are in the process. They proactively called to schedule delivery, and called an hour before drop off as promised. I never had to wait on hold or track them down for anything. We had such a smooth move with U-pack, and it saved us a lot of $$$. Tips: see their videos on how to pack your things so nothing breaks and what things you should get to secure everything (locka nd straps). If you bring people to upload make sure to explain beforehand how they're supposed to use the doors, how to use straps to secure everything, and how high to stack your things so space is saved. The truck was brought on time and the driver was very helpful with everything we needed. We were lucky that U-pack returned the truck same day it arrived for download, which is not typical, but if they can, they do accomodate. read more

As a military veteran I have moved around a lot with really poor government contracted movers. I can tell you with full confidence that this firm is completely disheveled, clueless, and should be avoided at all costs. They will continually delay shipment and blame it on a lack of available drivers. They will carelessly make numerous excuses to shirk on their commitments and do not provide any proof via email correspondence with their newly promised delivery date. They do this purposefully for selfish, legal reasons. For the level of untimeliness and lack of due diligence, this company is way too expensive. I recently moved from NC, and of the options I considered this was definitely one of the less expensive for a move of that distance. It also removed the stress, expense, and considerable time required to drive 2,000 miles. I wasn't personally there for drop off, but that process seems to have been smooth. Transport was without incident and took approximately two weeks. They were actually running a few days early but I was able to schedule my drop off by one day outside of the preferred window without any problems, probably because it's hard to time a trip of this length exactly. Once I arrived and started to wait in an empty apartment, though, I experienced my first and only problem. You know how when you move 2,000 miles, there's a chance you get a new phone number? It seems the process in place for that is quite poor. I called twice and both times was told that my attempt to change my number was successful. It wasn't. I called the support number four times the day of delivery, but it wasn't until I was escalated to an email exchange that the situation was resolved and my container delivered the next day. I'm not exactly mad or anything, just mildly annoyed that a cross-continental transport company can't handle small changes to contact info (note transport was handled through ABF Freight, but my move was through U-Pack and I'm not totally sure which company screwed up this process). Anyway, this is getting long. Delivery was smooth thanks to a friendly driver and trainee who seemed to have no part in the problems I encountered. Since I was the 2nd to last delivery and didn't have much stuff, JW and Mace finished their last drop-off and assisted me in moving a couch I was dreading to. I could bump another star off, but it would be somewhat unreasonable to complain any more over a 7% increase in transport time due to what seems to be a corporate error on a review for a local branch, despite the annoyance. read more

Did a move with one relo-cube from Santa Cruz to Oahu and I am so happy with our decision! I looked into using u-haul but u-pack was such a better deal and such a better plan. They are very easy to reach, the packing process was contactless and effortless. There were literally no downsides to the relo-cube. There's a bunch of different options to help keep costs down when it comes to packing and delivery. I opted to pack our cube at the shipping yard and then have it dropped off at my location of choice rather than unload at the yard too. Our total was less than 3k which is an extremely reasonable amount for the distance across the pacific that we needed! We got rid of most of our belongings for this move so one cube was the perfect amount of space. read more

Researched many moving companies and chose U-Pack because of so many positive reviews. I was not disappointed and U-Pack literally delivered on everything they agreed to up front. My move was from CA to ID and we moved two houses and was able to schedule the truck to be dropped off at each house for 3 days to pack up, Upon picking up for trailer to be delivered to destination address it made the trip in 3 days. Very fast service and my trailer load of items were delivered and no issues. Some highlights: - San Jose team was beyond helpful and polite - Driver (Brian) in San Jose was extremely helpful and had many tips - Price was exactly what was quoted with no additional fees added - Every phone interaction with corporate, local and destination locations was a pleasure. I fully appreciated the positive experience and made a stressful move easier to deal with. Helpful tips: - Buy ratchet straps and use them, things will move if not - Toss in a couple of AirTags in trailer to track the trailer easily - Be prepared for a workout with moving items up and down that ramp! - If you can pack your items in a specific order it sure helps when unloading - Many locks for the bulkhead are too thick to fit through the holes, buy some smaller ones as a backup. - Don't hesitate to call and ask for guidance or updates Overall it as a great experience. My husband and I took a minute to think before we gave a 5-star rating: Was there anything that didn't go perfectly? Nope. Beginning to end it was a perfect experience. We used a U-Pack "Eco-Cube" to move a load of things from our rental house in CA to our permanent home in CO. Customer Service was phenomenal - Not having used this type of service before, I called numerous times to ask questions and each rep I got was friendly, patient, knowledgeable, and explained things clearly. Drop-off was great and the person who brought the unit was so helpful to explain the best way to load, where to strap things in, how to lock, etc. (You use your own lock, so you're the only one with access.) The cube looked tiny when it was dropped off that I thought there was no way it would hold everything, but it held an amazing amount of stuff. Our cube was delivered to CO earlier than estimated, which worked out great for us. (We even had a choice of whether to have it dropped off early.) Although you have 3 days to unload, we unloaded in one day and were lucky enough to get a pick-up the next day. I used U-Pack for a CA to TX move and had a great experience. I scheduled the entire service online and loved that the process was incredibly easy and straightforward. You pay for what you use; simple. I opted to rent trailer space and load my belongings at their terminal. Scheduling the loading time took some time. It's advised you call them 48 hours before your move day to schedule a time, and after 3 calls (the first 2, the phone just kept ringing... odd.) I was able to chat with a nice gentleman who assured me my trailer would be out front at their terminal and ready for me whenever I arrived. Fantastic! The trailer itself, as others have noted, was filthy. There was a layer of dirt, dust, and other debris on the floor, but hey, my stuff's in boxes so who cares. Assembling the "wall" was a chore. U-Pack recommends you use gloves when putting the divider wall up. Yeah, listen to that! Our hands got f***ed up with splinters and nails... I had a huge tree trunk sticking out of my palm, dude! It was brutal. Anyway, the loading process was simple (minus the wall) and we were confident our stuff would make it over a few states in 1 piece. Pro tip: strap the hell out of your stuff. I bought 12 ratchet straps from Amazon for $50 to secure a butt ton of boxes and a motorcycle. Spending fifty is way better than having broken stuff, and when we opened our trailer in TX, everything was exactly where we left it. I loved that we could track our shipment. Funny story: we passed the trailer that had our stuff on the highway going to TX! and, although I was quoted 5 business days, it got there in 3. Overall, great service. read more

Actually I want to give a 4.2 or 4.3 rating. U-Pack is a really good fit if you can handle packaging and unpackaging by yourself, only need a transportation from A to B. The price is very very nice, though you need prepare some margin days to avoid delay. The only complain I have is their "pick-up". For my case, both loaded "pick-up" and "unloaded empty trailer" pick-up take 3~4 days, while I already done all stuffs and called them to pick up at the 1st day. The trailer is huge so kindly of blocking my parking in the destination address. Except that, all good! read more

From letting me keep the 28' ABF Freight trailer an extra day because I got a horrible virus that had me packing while barely able to breathe AND I lost my voice, to dropping off & picking up the trailer in Iowa from my storage unit on the Same Day, these guys were the best!! We recently moved our three bedroom home from the Bay Area to Portland Oregon using the relocube service and we're happy with how it all went. As a do it yourself move option it's better than renting a one way truck. If you're not comfortable packing and securing the load yourself you may want to consider other options. We packed using plenty of heavy duty boxes, moving blankets and ratcheting truck straps. There was virtually no breakage or damage across 5 cubes. Shipment of the cubes was fast and trackable. Note that they're running a freight delivery service and getting delivery down to a specific time on day of delivery is not something I would expect. A big benefit of the relocube option is split loads. We packed our garage into a cube and sent it ahead. Having the garage clear for the rest of our packing was worth the storage cost and gave us a feel on what fits in a cube. We met 4 delivery drivers over the course of the move. All were competent, courteous and helpful- offering good cube placement advice when asked. Same with all phone contact with both local terminals, central,and dispatch. read more
