Just talked to them to get an estimate and they told me they charge 11% fuel charge based on the hourly rate and number of hours worked. I asked why when fuel is not being consumed while loading / unloading. The answer that is what we do. Wow, that is strange to charge $13.00 per hour for a truck not using fuel. Additional there is a min 30 min travel time charge which would be an additional $65 for this move. Not using them! This also appears to be illegal in California "Unfair Competition Law (UCL): Charging for a service not rendered (like fuel not used) can be argued as "unfair or deceptive" under California Business and Professions Code § 17200, especially if the surcharge is used as a hidden profit center rather than a cost recovery tool." If you're looking for a fast, reliable efficient moving company to help you with a move I cannot say enough good things about West Coast Moving Systems. Mario and Jose arrived exactly on time and even managed to maneuver their truck through the very challenging drive way space at Public Storage in San Ramon. (By the way do NOT use Public Storage at 2590 San Ramon Valley Blvd. - You can read my very detailed review about those storage pirates elsewhere.) Our service providers, Mario and Jose were fantastic! Seriously! They got the truck positioned perfectly in what is a very narrow and unforgiving space and started loading our belongings up and ultimately turned a job that we thought would take at least three to four hours into a streamlined model of care and efficiency. We had a 10'x35' space full of items and they had us packed up, relocated and moved into our new storage space at Extra Space Storage on Alcosta in just under two and a half hours. In full transparency, my wife and I are knocking on the door of transitioning to senior citizens and a move like this would have wiped us out and literally taken us all day using a rental van and making numerous trips. Yet Jose and Mario got it done in a single trip leaving us with plenty of time to tidy afterwards and go out for a nice relaxed brunch in Dublin. I have used West Coast Moving for years, which makes this experience even more disappointing. I was charged $450 just to pick up my own belongings from their storage facility during normal business hours. The explanation given was essentially that the company was booked--but how is that the customer's responsibility? If your scheduling is full, why should I be financially penalized for that? I would strongly suggest asking the following: Is there a fee to retrieve your own belongings from storage? Was that fee clearly disclosed in writing before services began? Does the signed contract specifically say you cannot pick up your own items during normal business hours without paying an additional fee? Will they provide you with a copy of that agreement upon request? As a long-time customer, this felt less like customer service and more like being punished for loyalty. Transparency matters, especially when a company has possession of your personal belongings. Because of this experience, I will be filing complaints with the Better Business Bureau and appropriate consumer regulatory agencies so this practice can be reviewed. Very disappointing. read more

From the very beginning, Robert (the operations manager) and Jennifer (at the front desk) made the process smooth and stress-free. Had 3 movers transport furniture including some bulky items like a 8ft tall china cabinet and partially disassembled Korean massage couch. Everything was handled with care and set up where requested. They were able to do the job within the 3 hr minimum so there were no additional charges compared to the original quoted price. Initially we were considering assigning only 2 movers because it was just a 1 bedroom unit but after explaining the bulk items further the operations manager recommended a third person for another $40 an hour. I think 3 people ended up being the right call because if we had only 2 movers everything would have taken longer than the 3 hours minimum and costing me more. read more

I had a little bit of an unusual move in that I was moving out of a studio but also had stuff that needed to picked up at another location as well. They were totally accommodating and for local moves the pricing is just for one truck, two guys at an hourly rate. The two guys they sent were quick and efficient, no wasting time to run up the bill. Not cheap but a totally fair and reasonable bill at the end. They lose one star because they were a bit rough with some admittedly old Scandinavian teak veneer on particle board book shelves and damaged them beyond repair. Fortunately they were on their last legs anyway and pretty fragile. So I had expected to replace them soon, and I was able to hide the damage for now. read more

Felix and his crew were great! There was some miscommunication between me and the person who booked me--turns out I needed a Full Service rather than Basic Service. Felix and his team arrived onsite, saw the situation and explained to me what had happened, and vowed to get through with the move anyway. They stayed far beyond the hours they were quoted for and were obviously drenched in sweat by the end of the ordeal. Every item was carefully packed and brought over safely, carefully, and professionally. I was even able to take my friends who had come to help me out to lunch while they continued to unload the truck unsupervised! West Coast did an excellent job of moving my 1200 sqft house. Three guys (Alejandro, Roseville, Gustavo) showed up on time. Started working right away. Loaded all boxes in about an hour. Wrapped and moved all my heavy furniture. Took everything to the OOD facility in luckily 25-30 minutes across the bay bridge. Once at the facility, they expertly loaded it into a POD completely filling it up. I would hire them again and recommend them to anyone moving. read more
