After many years of silently lurking on Yelp, it's happening and thjs is my first ever review ever. A company me team has finally provided such great service that I've decided to sit down and take the time write a review that they very much deserved! TLDR-If you're looking for a moving company...stop all your research and book Jay's Small Moves. You won't regret it because you will be in great hands. Hopefully you get the dream team of Frank, Francisco, and Bronson like we did. If I ever move again, there is no hesitation and I know who I'm calling and will request the same team to come out and help me again. Longer review - Anyone whose ever moved knows the added amount of stress that comes along with it. This is the third time I've used movers and this by far has been the best and least stressful experience ever. Words can not express how thankful to have had Frank, Bronson, and Francisco for our move. They are the dream moving team and hit all the marks I could wanted and more. Communicative?-yes! Timely?-check! Knowledgeable of what they are doing?-absolutely! Take direction and instruction well? - another check! Customer service oriented?-of course! And something I wasn't expecting is how the three of them worked so well together and were such in sync throughout the entire time of the move. If these three guys show up together as you're moving team, you should know all your concerns should be put to rest. It was nice seeing them work well as a team, communicate with one another, and make this a smooth process for me and for themselves. This was the extra sparkle factor that I feel I missed from my past movers. Leading up to the big move day, most of our communication occurred with Frank. He gets an A+ in my book for his communication skills. Even though we were given a start time. I also appreciated the call he gave when he was close so we knew to expect them. We then met Bronson and Francisco and the three of them took such great care and attention to the move. They listened to all our instructions of where our boxes were, what was fragile, and took such great care to make sure things were moved safely and securely, while still being very efficient about everything. They also took great care to load in our items to our new place. For some background context, the walls of the new place was freshly painted before the move in and there are no blemishes even after everything was loaded in. How they were able to move so many awkwardly shaped boxes and items up three flights of stairs without dinging any walls amazes me. But I'm not complaining because that means no need to touch up any walls needed from me. At the beginning of the load in process, I raised concerns about the carpets on the stairs getting dirty and mentioned that I bought some over the shoe bootie covers for them. But no need because the team had come prepared with carpet protector! Shout out to Frank for laying it down so nicely that I asked him to keep it down. (The appliances are getting delivered in the next few days that I'm keeping this down until then and will remove it once that happens). It's not like Jay's Small Moves needs any more 5-star reviews, but Omar, Frank, and Ru were SO GREAT with me during my move that I simply could not refrain from sharing my experience with y'all. Before I get to the actual moving day, though, I want to speak to the pre-moving experience I had with Jay's Small Moves' team. I was contacted soon after reaching out to them, received thorough information explaining what to expect from the process, received a detailed questionnaire and request for a complete inventory of what I needed moved, and had no trouble reaching a live human when calling the office with questions (which were answered expediently and clearly). Their prep work in advance of the move reminded me of the Abraham Lincoln quotation, "Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe." This company definitely knows the value of preparation. On the day of the move itself, Omar, Frank, and Ru showed up on time with smiles on their faces (I could see their smiles in their eyes and hear them in their voices, despite the fact that we all had to wear face coverings due to COVID precautions) and a pep in their step. They got straight to work, had me check everything before we left the place from which I was moving (everything looked good), and once we arrived at the place to which I was moving they continued moving efficiently but cautiously, taking great care not to damage the freshly-painted walls and recently-refinished hardwood floors. They also thoughtfully assembled my tables (which had been in my family for generations) and carefully placed my furtniture where I had planned for it to go. The entire time, Omar, Frank, and Ru communicated with me considerately, confidently, with humor and kindness, and made me feel completely relaxed throughout the entire process. This was my first time hiring professional movers, and I had heard so many horror stories over the years (not about Jay's Small Moves, but about hiring movers in general) that I was a bit nervous about how it would go. Needless to say, if I ever need to hire movers again I will without hesitation reach back out to Jay's Small Moves. The team assigned to my job - Fernando, Darwin, Mike and Dennis - was absolutely fantastic, the best I've worked with in my my many moves over the last 30 years (at least 8 moves). They showed up on time, Fernando did an initial walk-through with me to confirm what goes and what stays, Darwin packed the kitchen in no time and with great care, the guys all moved quickly and with super-great attitudes (they've worked together before and get along really well), they moved me into my new location in less than 2 hours, and we were finished by 2:00pm. A few notes of particular gratitude for the team: - because I ran into an issue with keys to the new location, I wasn't at the first location when they were finishing packing the truck. I realized I didn't receive wardrobes, texted Fernando and they took care of it...packed the wardrobes for me at no extra charge; - I was still dealing with the key issue when they had to unpack the truck at the new location and they they took great care to set up my furniture as they thought I would like it based on the layout at the first location, and they unpacked my wardrobes!!! - they set up my office desk along with the chair AND the floor protector, which I wouldn't have expected; - Darwin was clever in his packing of the kitchen, placing plastic items with metal so he saved on using paper to wrap every single item. He used lightweight items as padding. I love that he didn't over-wrap with paper...this has never been the case when I've had other movers pack the kitchen!! - The icing on the cake? I'm a committed recycler and I'm so grateful that Jay's was willing to use the packing materials I kept from my last move...not because it was less cost to me, but because it was far better for the environment to "re-use". Jay's had to bring a kitchen pack in case my materials weren't in high quality condition, but they were and I wasn't charged for the kitchen pack (unlike the other company that gave me a quote and would have to charge for the pack, regardless). I hired Jay's Small Moves to move from Berkeley to Oakland, and I was impressed with them every step of the way. The week before the move, I sent them an email and promptly received a follow-up call during which Rafael gathered the essential details of the move and scheduled a convenient time for their team to arrive. After the call, they sent an email confirmation of the appointment along with a helpful list of recommendations, tips, and additional considerations. Joe, Johnny, and Niles were fantastic. Joe called as they were on the way to let me know their ETA, which was very close to the beginning of the scheduled arrival window. He also asked me some clarifying questions to get a sense of what they'd be moving and the conditions at the origin and destination, so by the time they arrived they had a solid sense of what they were up against. I had underestimated the volume of stuff I needed to move and had forgotten during the initial scheduling call to report one of the flights of stairs at the destination. Also, when we arrived at the destination, there were vehicles parked in the permit spot I had reserved. But the team took all of this in stride, unfazed. They packed everything into the truck quickly, efficiently, and safely, and then unloaded it all at the destination through the gap in the illegally parked cars. Overhearing these folks coordinating with each other as they worked, it was clear that they had a lot of experience and had a clear, well-organized plan for the whole operation. These three gentlemen are an absolute dream team when it comes to moving. From the moment they arrived, they were professional, friendly, and efficient. They took great care in wrapping and protecting our furniture and other belongings, and they were incredibly thorough in ensuring that everything was securely loaded onto the truck. This was my second time using Jay's Small Moves - the first to move out of my condo and this second time to move into a new two-bedroom unit - and I am even happier the second time around! When calling Jay's, the team was detailed in asking specifics around my move to ensure we had a truck and team that fit my needs; and the emails they send in advance are super helpful in documenting all my furniture to estimate the labor. On move day, I received a call about an hour from my scheduled time to give me a heads-up on the team's timing. The team consisted of Frank (aka team captain extraordinaire), Josh (excellent mover of all things), and Francisco (master organizer like Tetris). I could not have asked for a more kind, organized, efficient, or communicative team. In my first move, it took about four hours in total, door to door. Somehow, these guys moved me from Vallejo to Emeryville at 9:30am on a weekday (smart move by me to move during rush hour traffic), unloaded the truck, and placed all my furniture and boxes in their respective rooms, and installed my bed... in THREE hours total. I was floored and so impressed. I could not give a higher recommendation for Jay's Small Moves if you're moving anywhere across the Bay Area. Their pricing, detail orientation, and professionalism cannot be beaten. Moving sucks but these guys made it easy and thought-free, which is more than I could have asked for. My wife and I have used Jay's Small Moves on several previous occasions, and when it was time to move out of our storage unit and bring everything up to our house, we really never thought of anyone else. Joe and Tyler arrived right on time to our storage unit, and proceeded to get ready for the move. I showed them the unit, confirmed that everything there was to go, and assured them there was a freight elevator to make it easier...only there wasn't. It was malfunctioning! I went off to the office, while Joe and Tyler proceeded to stack boxes on dollies to roll to the elevator. Of course the office was closed, and a 5+ minute phone call turned into an additional 10-minute wait for the manager to arrive (who fixed the elevator in short order). When I walked back from the office, the movers had already hand-carried most of the boxes down the stairs and loaded them into the truck. The elevator was only needed for a couple of (super-heavy) boxes and the furniture. Upon arriving to our house, there was a pretty steep driveway, but they backed the truck up as far as they could and unloaded everything -- placing everything right where I asked them to -- in what seemed like a "New York minute." And suddenly they were done! Everything was fast, efficient, affordable, and I wouldn't hesitate to use Jay's Small Moves again. Top quality movers! Miguel and the crew were incredibly accommodating from start to finish. I've moved quite a few times around the Bay Area and this was easily one of the smoothest experiences. From the first call, communication was clear and fast. They confirmed timing, showed up exactly when they said they would, and came fully prepared. No last-minute surprises, no "extra charges" drama -- just straight professionalism. Miguel runs a tight, respectful crew. Everyone was polite, efficient, and handled my furniture and boxes with real care. They wrapped fragile items properly, disassembled and reassembled furniture without any issues, and navigated tight Oakland streets and staircases like pros. Nothing scratched, nothing damaged, nothing "mysteriously lost." What stood out most was the attitude. Super patient, flexible with a few last-minute changes on my side, and genuinely helpful. I strongly recommend Jay's Small Moves. Booking - Pretty smooth, there was one snag where originally they scheduled two movers for my move (from a shared spacious 2BR in SF to a studio in Oakland). I emailed my inventory of items (optional but I highly recommend doing so) and was called back and told there were too many items for only two movers and asked to push my move back. I couldn't make that work, so I said I'd just have to move what they couldn't by myself and I'd work to pare the list down. Communication after that was smooth, they send helpful emails with reminders and tips and everything felt very clear. I also like that they don't charge double drive time. Movers - The movers are who really earned 5 stars. Joe, Chris, and Miguel showed up within the timeframe and gave me 25 minutes notice (unexpectedly had a third mover bc the previous job required one - lucky me!). They were friendly, positive, and energetic. They moved way more than I'd even expected, and managed to help me move out of a 2 story walk up into a 3 story walk up. It was a difficult move with about a million stairs and they were careful, speedy, and thoughtful. Chris even helped me figure out how to lay out certain items, he has an eye for design! I won't hesitate to use Jay's again, though hopefully I won't be moving too soon. read more

I highly recommend Jay's Small Moves. I first used them to move house a couple years ago, and they were great. Today they moved all the stuff in my office to my new office and then made a second stop with the last few items to my home. From the time I first spoke with someone on the phone to the actual move, they checked the order, the items and the addresses several times via emails and phone calls to make sure everything was accurate. The two guys who showed up were Chris and Rayu. They were friendly and very professional. Chris reviewed all the procedures with me upfront so I knew what they were doing every step of the way from loading to billing. They came prepared with masks on and made sure to keep them on the entire time. They made me feel super safe despite being in the middle of Covid. Here's where Jay's really shines as a moving company. These guys wrapped my delicate mirrors, picture frame and glass table top like they were precious babies, so so carefully and safely!! They even put plastic wrap around my beautiful cabinet so none of the paint or corners would chip or get scratched. This was my first time working with a moving company and I had reached out to one of the local offices for recommendations since I know quite a number of people have moved in the past year. Jay's Small Moves kept coming up and when I did more research, they seemed best to fit my situation. Their base cost and rate were comparable to other companies but Jay's Small Moves had better dates for me available so I booked my move with them. I met Miguel and Luis at my storage unit and they were able to very quickly move everything out and did a great job with protecting my furniture. We then went to the house where I was renting a room while I was purchasing a house and they were very mindful of the walls while being quick. Again, Luis did a great job at packing up my furniture so it was properly protected and Miguel very quickly loaded all my boxes in the truck. Unloading at the final destination was again very quick and all in all we were done in just over 2 hours, including Miguel and Luis helping me by putting together a bed. This was the least stressful and easiest part of my move. The tips emailed out prior to my scheduled move were very helpful. Blown away by these guys!! It was my first time using movers so I wasn't sure what to expect, and now I can't stop telling everyone how efficient of a process it was. Fernando, Mike, and Karim are a dream team! I was amazed at their speed, care, and positive attitude. My hallway is a tight squeeze so I wasn't sure how they were going to maneuver large furniture out, but it was absolutely no problem for them. I provided water/bagels/snacks and they were incredibly appreciative - would definitely recommend doing something similar as these guys work really hard and don't pause for breaks. The part that stood out to me the most was the professionalism and thoughtfulness these three had not only for me, but also for each other. It was one of Karim's first moves with the company and it was awesome to see Fernando and Mike step up to show him the ropes. Mike asked if I wanted his help wrapping my computer and tv (which I was taking with me so they weren't required to wrap it) and took the initiative to teach Karim how to do it as well. This was seriously the BEST moving experience I have ever had, all thanks to Joe and Jaleen! They were so, so, so patient and helpful even though my move was on a super hot day AND we made an extra stop to pick up a couch on the way. I also almost forgot approximately 8 pieces of furniture and they could not have been nicer about me saying "Okay, you're going to kill me but there's oneeeee more thing!" They were really professional, had everything on hand, and were really honest about the risks with some of my more fragile stuff. I have this stupid broken dresser that I love (that is soo hard to move) and they were so careful and patient and it made it from apartment to apartment 100% fine--as did everything else. Joe also disassembled my bed and put it back together for me--that was so helpful! They also checked in about where everything should go in the new apartment, which was much appreciated. I really appreciated the care and thoughtfulness they put into the whole experience, and overall I really can't say enough good things about the whole process and especially how wonderful Joe and Jaleen were. The team from Jay's Small Moves was great! My move (1 bedroom) was on Fri, June 2 and the team, Chris, Ru, and Dante, were super - very communicative (Chris called to give me an ETA), fast and efficient! It took them just under four hours to get every thing out of my old place (two flights of stairs and no elevator) and into my new place (elevator building but they did have to carry the sofa up three flights of stairs since it didn't fit in the elevator). They were very careful (including taking the kegs off of the sofa and wrapping/unwrapping my glass tables and taking the shelves out of the cabinet) but they were also hustling and not wasting time. Nothing broke. These guys deserve a raise! Also, I found the communication with the company to be stellar - I got multiple emails asking for specific information about my move, if I needed an insurance certificate for my new building, and confirmation emails, all of which I appreciated. I'll definitely recommend Jay's Small Moves (and especially the team of Chris, Ru, and Dante) to anyone who needs movers in the Bay Area. read more

I've moved several times in the past and had grown to have a not so favorable review for movers. However, yesterday, we had Dylan, Curtis, and Darwin, movers working for Jay's Moves call us to review and reconfirm the move in addition to letting us know that they were already on the road to meeting us. Dylan was professional, pleasant, efficient and just down right a guy who I would not hesitate to call on again for moving. The team, Dylan, Curtis and Darwin, arrived right on time, quickly moved our fine furniture and accessories with ease and no mishaps all while being friendly and professional. There were no damages to any of our items. After they moved everything from our storage to our location, they thanked us for the opportunity to be our movers, now who does that these days! Stop looking for movers and hire Jay's Small Moves! We worked with them this past week and they were prompt, efficient, careful, professional, organized, and fun. They handled a few surprises with courtesy and aplomb (multiple glass-topped tables and bureaus, more boxes than estimated, a few more furniture pieces than we had remembered) and very good-natured dealing with the cast of characters who were involved in the move from our end of things. We got a booking date reasonably quickly, they offered reasonable rates, and were responsive to all our communications. The staff observed mask-wearing at all times and physical distancing when possible. My favorite part was that we did not have to move other things in order for them to move things out--for example, there was a king-sized bed that had to move down a hallway past a bookcase covered with knickknacks, a large painting on the wall, and a chandelier above--I didn't have to do a thing but marvel at how smoothly and safely they executed the move. Jay's Small Moves team made our move less stressful! Big thank you to amazing crews Chris, Branson and Jose - they moved so quickly, efficiently and with lots of care. We were nervous about moving our beloved peloton and few other big fragile furnitures and the crews did an amazing job! I gathered 5 quotes from other moving companies, JSM was responsive, patient with answering all my questions (this was my first move and hence the long list of questions). My fav part about using JSM are clear communication, no hidden charges, the crews arrived ontime and finished earlier than expected. My tips for moving that will not break your bank & stress you out: 1. Call Jay and use their service 2. Put clear labels on where boxes belong (Jay's crews even helped us put boxes as per labels, and organized them in a way that is not cluttered) 3. Let the crews roll and you will be a happy camper!
