I needed someone to move an elliptical trainer on August 28th, prime college move-in season. I contacted a bunch of companies, but everyone was booked solid through the first week of September. I came across Mike's Express Delivery Van ad on Craigslist and he responded to my email within an hour. His estimate was super reasonable considering the weight of the item and the third-floor walk-up he'd be transporting the elliptical into. Later that day he showed up (earlier than he said, even!) with a van and a guy. Mike knows what he is doing. It's like he sees space and the objects in it, and knows what will and won't fit where. He directs every little step of the process verbally, so he and the helper are on the same page, which is important with heavy items and steep stairs. My machine arrived in great shape, there's no damage to the stairway, and the whole shebang (pickup on the first floor, drive over a few streets, haul it up to the third floor) took less than an hour. I hired mike to do a kind of complicated medium sized move from two different locations into an apartment that was not entirely vacated, so we had to leave space for the tenants to get their stuff out. This was August 30th, the Saturday before check-in week in every college in town, and there were vans, trucks, pickups, and SUV's lining the streets. Mike and his helper called to tell me they could arrive early, went by to pick up a set of keys we needed, and proceed to get the move done in a very small period of time. They moved everything in both places super fast, with no damage, no attitude, no lateness, great communication, no extra charges or add-ons. At the end, he said a number that wasn't what he'd quoted originally, and when i demurred, he went to the quote he'd given me (so I tipped them). Mike is great! I used him twice over the past week or so. First was to pick up a couch that I bought on Craigslist. He was right on time, knew what needed to be done and was finished in no time at all. Next, I had him come back to help me load a U-Haul truck. Again, right on time. I know that my review is truthful....maybe his bad attitude, rude behavior and unprofessional dealings are reserved for selected few. The point is I didnt do anything to invite it. He just tore the mattress BY HIMSELF, dumped it on side of the road and walked away saying he wont be paid by the other party if he takes this......plain and simple....NEVER HIRE THIS GUY. His large van has all the equipment you would ever need for your move. When I decided to leave Boston for Chicago, Mike was honest that he would charge a lot more, suggesting that instead I use Amtrak Express from South Station. I don't know how he does it. I dealt with two different craigslist operations , getting furniture into my new apartment this week. The first (not Mike), were late, they put a hole in my new leather couch (not Mike), and they were incredibly sweaty the whole time (not Mike). I don't want readers to glance at this and think I said that Mike was sweaty - he was not! He and a helper, who was also great, moved my heavy queen bed from one place to another without any interference from me, for a decent price, with fantastic customer service and they broke nothing at all - I think they may have even put the bed together to look better than it did at the other place. He's reliable, friendly, and trustworthy, he's careful and quick. I'd recommend him to my own mother. ... In fact, I'd recommend him even if he costs a few dollars more than another mover, you'll save the money in heartache avoided when your furniture arrives safely. read more
