We are moving cross country And using Pods to get there. We decided last minute to get some help with the "big stuff". We called Paul on a Wednesday and he came Thursday afternoon with a helper. We pointed out all the large items in the basement and second floor and they took it outside and loaded it in the Pod. They move multiple beds, an upright piano, nightstands and then helped move some already packed boxes into the pod. Shamrock was responsive on short notice, cheaper than all the other quotes and handled our items with care. read more

This is the second time I have used Paul to move my one bedroom apartment full of furniture and storage unit stuff too. Both times Paul and the other guy were quick and efficient, able to dismantle and put my bed back together which was a big help. I also forgot to tell them I needed to move a load of smaller bags of stuff. But they moved all of this pretty quick really. He was also able to help me out at short notice and move on a Sunday! The rates are pretty reasonable too compared to other places and I have used a couple of different movers around Boston. I had a unique order for these guys--take my really old piano, move it off a moving truck, up a tightly wound flight of stairs in Winthrop, without breaking it or their backs, and do it for less than $200. When I tell you these guys delivered, they did, and then some! They were totally professional-kept in touch with me over the phone and were actually really flexible with times they were able to come. My piano is soo heavy--but these guys (Paul and Jesus) were so nice, and strong and go it up the steps with no damage to the steps, or the piano. I had a mini heart attack watching them because I was so afraid they'd hurt themselves but they were so great, and were just what I needed, at the right price! If I ever need to move anything, I'll definitely be calling them again! read more

On August 28th 2013 My girlfriend and I used Shamrock movers to move out of our South Boston apartment. We were on the third floor with a tricky staircase, we had the works; couch, tables, mattresses, TV's and dressers. Not only were they great guys they showed up on time with a truck and got right to work. They moved quickly, were careful with all of our things and were efficient in getting everything out. We were completely moved out and loaded into our new place in two and a half hours. Short version: Paul didn't show up for my move and failed to call or text to let me know that he had an 'emergency' and wasn't going to show up. Longer version: Scheduled these guys a week in advance for 9/6 move, seemed like a nice guy, no problem. Called to confirm the day before my move and it sounded that Paul had no clue about the scheduled move the next day, but confirmed that he'd be there anyway. The morning of the move Shamrock movers were not there! Called to check, Paul states that he has an emergency and won't be able to make it. After some deliberation he suggests he'll come in a few hours... I imagine after he sleeps off his hangover? Problem is I can't do in a few hours, I have a job. Moved in the middle of the smoldering summer with those guys, and they really did a great job. I have moved about seven times in the past five years for my job, and they definitely know how to efficiently and safely pack a truck. As opposed to some small business movers, they were also great at keeping in touch and stayed on top of parking and my personal schedule. As a young woman living by herself at the time, I felt very safe around Paul and his team, so much that I even left for a while to pick up some lunch (some movers can be really creepy if you know what I mean). reasonable rates, 15 minute increments, no initial travel time.... did a move with these guys from Somerville to Brookline. Third floor walk up in Brookline, the guys actually kicked into high gear once once budgetary concerns were expressed and finished at agreed upon time frame. Hand delivered a forgotten piece of furniture later that night as well. Most importantly no scuffs or dings or dents in any of the furniture makes me one happy customer. read more

Paul runs a good business. He hires a few different guys to help him on each job, depending on who is available. I've hired them 3 times and have had a good experience each time. I used this company for a move within Somerville in August 2013. I'm writing this review almost two years later because I tend not to write bad Yelp reviews -- it feels mean. But now I'm moving again and am relying on the Yelp community to find a mover, so I kind of feel like it's my duty to let people know how bad this move was. It is seared into my mind as the worst moving experience I've ever had. I went with Shamrock because they quoted a lower price than the other company I called. They showed up with the correct number of guys. But these guys were really hurting -- they were on the older side, pretty out of shape, and it was clear that moving us out of our third-floor apartment was killing them. Periods of 15-20 minutes passed without anyone actually entering my apartment to move anything. And needless to say, we were paying by the hour. Meanwhile, Paul was sitting in his truck fielding calls. When I approached him to point out that he was one of the movers we were paying for, he grudgingly started to help with the move. Noting how slowly the move was going, he said he wanted to call another person to help -- but we would have to pay extra. I was so stressed and frustrated at this point that I agreed to this. When we got to the new apartment, Paul called in a fifth guy to help, I think because he was getting stressed about how slowly the move was going. He then informed us that the move was taking too long, so they were going to leave a bunch of our stuff right on the sidewalk (including our mattress). They said they would come back the next day to finish, but they would charge extra for that. I told him this was ridiculous and unacceptable, and ultimately they did finish the move the same day. But then Paul said he expected us to pay extra for the fifth guy (even though he had not asked my permission to hire him). He used crazy scammer language, like, "I'm not running a charity." I told him no way. I paid what I had agreed to pay. The stress of all this was unbelievable, and it was all completely unnecessary. Near the end of the move, one of the guys Paul had hired mentioned to me that Paul routinely had trouble estimating how long the move would take, in part because he did not ask what floor the apartment was on. He said, "This happens a lot." Go with any of the many five-star companies you can find on Yelp. Please save yourself a nervous breakdown by avoiding this one. read more

Paul showed up 2 and a half hours late and he seemed to be drunk. I was concerned that he had driven over while smelling very strongly like alcohol. I could be wrong about the drunkenness, but he was moving about slowly, not walking in a straight line, had slurred speech and kept forgetting where he put his tools and tape. Moving into my apartment had been swift and professional by another set of movers. It took an hour. By comparison, Paul and his colleague had not gotten my boxes into the UHaul after 3 hours, and this was with me working alongside them the entire time. To their credit, there was one piece of furniture that was difficult to move and they put in a great effort on that. However, the entire move was proceeding very, very, very slowly and I spent a lot of the time stressed about whether things would end up broken. Paul dropped my stuff twice, once breaking the items inside a box. He said it was my fault because the box wasn't taped on the bottom - it was folded closed. There was no apology, and his tone was confrontational with him saying, "That was your fault!" He did not offer any reimbursement for what was broken. This was an elevator move, and they showed up with one small dolly for two movers. Can you picture how long an elevator move would take, when two movers have just one small dolly the length and width of a box? Fortunately I had two large dollies in the building that could roll multiple boxes into the elevator. (Movers are paid by the hour.) Because they were 2+ hours late, it got to be past midnight and the move was not finished. I had to extend my Uhaul reservation and buy a parking permit for the next day. I hired different movers the next day to finish the move. The other movers finished the move in under an hour. I ended up spending nearly $300 extra in total and taking an extra evening. I will also have to replace the things they broke. read more

I am an undergrad college student on a really tight budget, and I'm trying to furnish my place. I bought a couch off Craigslist, and used Paul (no assistants) to help me move the couch from Cambridge to my place in Brighton. Great prices, couch got in okay--although blankets were not used, and part of the microfiber dragged on my floor. Things happen though, and I was one of the helpers. I'm no professional. One odd occurrence: A week later, he texted me asking if I wanted to meet for coffee. I'm recently single and constantly deal with weird men's bullshit, and there was no other info to go off of, so I told him that he crossed a line, and that I was freaked out by this (I met him off the internet and all). He apologized. I talked about that experience in this review, and he saw it. He texted me to ask me to edit the review, and that he wanted to meet for coffee just to see if I could build a website for him (I had mentioned I'm a graphic designer). I'm not sure why this didn't come up at the time of me showing my irritation. But anyway, he's coming off as innocent, and as someone who did not realize how it would come across if he vaguely asked me to meet for coffee. Huh, okay then. So, there you go. I was quite delayed getting into Boston with my 17' U-Haul truck, and had previously arranged to have several friends assist with moving into a 2 bedroom. Unfortunately, we had a breakdown and wound up getting in very late--around 10pm. On the way, we called Shamrock Movers to get some extra assistance, as not all of my friends were going to be able to lend a hand due to work. Paul Harvey showed up right on time, and he helped us for two hours straight as five of us unloaded the entire truck and moved everything into a third-floor walk-up. Paul led the moving of the large pieces of furniture (several desks, a heavy queen bed, a chair, etc.), and everything made it up safe and sound. He was very friendly and professional, and provided wonderful service on *very* short notice. Have a few more things to move from a friend's place later this month, and will be using Paul and Shamrock again. read more

Though quite professional on the phone, Paul and the other mover were anything but in their work. They moved so slowly and charged by the hour (See Deepa R's review for the full effect). Before they arrived with their Budget truck, four friends helped us move everything outside to make the process go faster. Even though the vast majority of our stuff was a few steps from the truck, the two guys spent huge amounts of time just staring at the back of the truck, moving one box, then repeating the process. Paul took a very long time calling other people to help, and was not able to find anyone. They didn't bring standard moving implements (plastic sheeting, dolly) and told me they would have to charge extra if they used the tape they brought. They went from the 2nd floor to a 3rd floor and to the new place on the 2nd floor with some windy steps. The fact that it was August 31st made it even worse and that it was their 4th move of the day....well, they did it. I told them to take some breaks and they wouldn't, just powered through. Not a company. It's a man named Paul. I arranged to have a sofa moved from my apt out to the curb, and Paul showed up alone. I said this was not a one man job, and Paul mumbled that he could call a friend... However, it is a small loveseat, so I let him try at it. Paul banged up my door frame, but then said he didn't do it. Unable to move the couch on his own, Paul attempted to contact a friend but said he wasn't getting through to them. He was about to give up, but then he said he could smash up the wooden frame of the couch and put its pieces out on the curb. Sure, we've got a saw, and so I let him try at it - again. My roommate was home, while I stepped out to go to a nearby store, and when I came back Paul was gone and our livingroom - with the couch overturned - was a complete mess. What's that called? Is there even a name for this? Move and dash! Sham and rock! Very uncomfortable experience. Now I will be spending the rest of my day finding a *legitimate* moving company. My bad. Don't make it your bad too. I don't recommend contacting Paul or working with him. read more

Disclaimer: this was for a move one year ago. They may have gotten worse or better since. I had I received a recommendation from Raimond's Movers to Shamrock. They were able to accommodate me on short notice but in the end I should have chosen a more expensive mover. They were very late showing up and spent too much time socializing. Paul was on the phone a ton making appointments while my clock was ticking (and they were racking up more move time). I had to cut short the amount of stuff they moved and limited it only to the big stuff. Paul also failed to mention ahead of time that he would be charging for packaging materials. Maybe that was some rare plastic wrap they used to secure my dresser drawers. A job that I was quoted 3 hours, which included the equivalent of a 2 bedroom apartment and miscellany took them 6. Even after I reduced the load and had them move furniture and a few boxes. I was not happy. Paul at then end of it all informed me with a huge grin that my bill came to over 700$. I didn't want to get into it with him. Caveat emptor. read more

Paul was available to come a bit early which was great. He and another fellow moved one heavy dresser downstairs and one heavy dresser upstairs. They had to get both around a tight corner where the ceiling sloped down over the stairs. They were careful, and clearly strong. This is our second time using them. I called this company to move my furniture (2 bedroom apt) from the second floor of a townhouse (no elevator) to the apartment buiding (elevator) next door. I told them that no truck was needed. Well, the movers (two guys) showed up two hours late, with a small dolly and no pads! They were nice guys, but not experienced movers, as quickly became apparent, as my (unpadded) furniture was scraped against the walls in the staircase. read more

I called Paul @ Shamrock Movers who was able to get me an appointment fairly last minute. Two men showed up, with one small dolly. First, They were bickering with each other right off the bat which made me super uncomfortable. About 30 minutes into the project (moving out of a very small studio) which was already moving painfully slow, the two men got into an argument with each other (who knows what it was about- but who cares? get your job done.) They continued to argue with each other throughout the streets of the North End. It was mortifying. And suddenly, one of the 2 men walked off...yes, just left the site on foot. Paul, the remaining mover started calling 'friends' to 'see what they were up to?' before asking random people on the street if they had some time to help him out? I was baffled he was doing this in front of a paying customer. He never once took a moment to connect with me and evaluate the situation or even apologize or give me some sort of explanation for this disaster, as I'm sitting there perplexed and confused and by myself. I thought I was being punked! Paul was useless and I eventually had to call every friend I knew who was in the area to bail me out. Thankfully my friends and I busted our asses and we completely moved myself, with the help of Paul's U-Haul truck. On top of it all, Paul didn't once walk the 4 flights of stairs up to my new apartment, but dropped everything by the front door (hence the reason I got movers in the first place!) A part of me felt bad so when I gave him $120 for his 2 hours of work. Well he fought with me claiming he deserved more, and eventually snatched the money out of my hand and stormed off.
